Alita: Battle Angel - 5/10

Droford 02-22-2019 04:58 PM

Fighting with My Family 8/10 once you get over the timeline inaccuracies (Paige gets her first tryout at "Smackdown Live" and all the WWE logos used are the newer logo for instance, the movie itself was decent and didn't feel like WWE had it's hands all over it.

Blue Demon 02-22-2019 05:27 PM

Green Book - 9/10....really enjoyed it. I'm sure they took liberties with the story, but it was good. Funny yet dramatic.

Seanny One Ball 02-22-2019 08:50 PM

What was it I read today about Green Book on Cracked?
"A symphony of lies" apparently, and Mahershala Ali has apologised to Don Shirley's family over his portrayal.

Seanny One Ball 02-22-2019 08:52 PM

Apparently Viggo Mortensen teaches him how to eat fried chicken and enjoy soul music.
Thank God he was there to help him.

However, in an interview with Variety Tony Lips' son said "It's unfortunate to me because I don’t want to hurt the Shirley family in any way. [Don Shirley and Tony Vallelonga] were together a year and a half and they did remain friends. There’s a lot of information [the Shirley family] doesn’t have, and they were hurt that I didn’t speak to them. But to be quite honest with you, Don Shirley himself told me not to speak to anyone. And he only wanted certain parts of his life. He only allowed me to tell what happened on the trip. Since [the family] were not on the trip—this is right out of his mouth—he said, ‘No one else was there but your father and I. We’ve told you.’ And he approved what I put in and didn’t put in. So obviously, to say I didn’t contact them, that was hard for me because I didn’t want to betray what I promised him [Dr. Shirley]."

You have convinced me.
Poor oblivious Don Shirley, completely unaware of popular music and cuisine.

How To Train Your Dragon 3 - 9/10

I thought it was really good. I haven't seen the first two but might watch them sometime now.

Seanny One Ball 02-23-2019 03:33 PM

Journey's End - 3.5/4

A stripped down WW1 dialogue-driven film with minimal action and great emphasis on tone, atmosphere and fantastic use of what little it has.
This is the sort of war film you would get from a director in the forties and fifties - no budget but a great script and access to proven talent.
This is no romantic rehash, nor is is dispassionate and cold. Unusually it is a heartfelt and realistic homage to men who's days were numbered and who's emotions were strained beyond temper.

Heavy going and incredibly unforgiving, a companion to Gallipoli in it's ability to infuriate and appal.

Taking the little one tonight. We loved that first 2.

Paddleton was extremely on the nose... Ray Romano puts in one of the all time great performances though so if you can handle the concept prepare for the old cliche that comedians do drama better than anybody.

I'd find it hard to fault the film, in fact it was honest and excellent in every way. I just did not like the way it made me feel nor the inevitability of the outcome. It is a hard film to rate for that reason.

I doubt I would ever watch it again despite the unassailable brilliance of Ray Romano's turn. He really is magnificent in it, I actually went in thinking Mark Duplass would steal the show yet again but this was all Romano.
Mark Duplass is on a crazy run of productivity lately. I hope he doesn't burn out or go nuts because he's the sort of guy any aspiring writers should look at. He's great.

It can get you thinking about life and the people you come across on a daily basis.
How many people do you know that could be one of those men?
What would it take for you to be one of these men?
How many TPww posters could pass for one of these men?

Seanny One Ball 02-23-2019 11:14 PM

You could say that about almost any film

Fighting With My Family - 8/10

Very emotional. Took some "creative liberties" but very effective.

El Vaquero de Infierno 02-24-2019 03:47 PM

Get Out 7/10

Frank Drebin 02-24-2019 07:25 PM

Very emotional

Alita: Battle Angel - 3/5

Never seen the original anime so I really can't give an accurate basis for a review. But, I was bored and wanted to get out of the house. It was "okay". Probably safe to say it was better than Ghost in the Shell?

Black Widow 02-26-2019 08:10 PM

Jaws 3.

1st is clearly the best one.

Seanny One Ball 02-28-2019 12:24 PM

Jaws 4, The Revenge does it for me.

Michael Caine emerges from water completely dry.
Mario Van Peebles at one point says "Michael stop bustin' ma boogie!" to the protagonist.

It has everything.

Damian Rey 2.0 02-28-2019 12:50 PM

Fighting with my Family-7/10

Not the propaganda wwe film I thought it be. Pretty decent character movie, with Paige's brother Zack easily being the most intriguing and layered of characters.

The wrestling stuff was unsurprisingly campy, but it didn't make a joke out of it, and the cast did a good job of making good on their lines. Enjoyed it much more than expected even tho it fluffs the fuck out of Paige.

Droford 03-01-2019 02:25 AM

Glass 4/10 totally unnecessary, boring for 90% of the movie.

GD 03-01-2019 06:28 AM

Saw "Pretty in Pink" for the first time. James Spader looks dashing.

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 10:38 AM

You are sooooooo Duckie

slik 03-01-2019 03:31 PM

I've had more than 1 person in my life tell me I am Duckie from Pretty in Pink before

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 03:35 PM

I used to get Chandler Bing comparisons. We've all been hurt before.

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 03:57 PM

Watching Dirty John: The Dirty Truth

This guy...

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 04:01 PM

Can only feel sympathy for a few of these people... some of them come off terribly because they endangered their kids. The blonde should be too ashamed of herself to be in this. Terrible mother.

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 04:06 PM

This guy though...

What moxy!

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 04:24 PM

I don't want to victim blame here but this guy was shooting fish here until the fish started growing arms and pulling the trigger themselves.
This Deborah woman was trying to commit suicide by marriage essentially. She's just as nuts as him.

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 04:30 PM

Whoah, the ending is dope.

Great story.
Love it.

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 04:38 PM

SPOILER: show
Genuinely love that the five foot tall daughter of this negligent, disgraceful mother Deborah was the one who took him out. Not only that but she beat him in an unfair fight that he started with a weapon, a weapon she took off him and stabbed him to bits with.

What a way to end the story.

Seanny One Ball 03-01-2019 06:58 PM

Watched that Hired Gun documentary about studio musicians. It's all fine fare but but why the fuck are they lionising Quiet fucking Riot of all people?

Quiet Riot are a fifth rate Slade cover band. I'm too bothered by the effusive praise for such a terrible band to continue the movie now.

slik 03-01-2019 11:56 PM

Fighting With My Family - 9/10

I thought it was good. Lots of heart and humor. There's some liberties taken for narrative purposes, but that's to be expected. My least favorite part was probably the end when Paige debuts on the main roster. All the stuff w/ her and her family is solid, great chemistry between the actors.

I enjoyed it!

El Vaquero de Infierno 03-02-2019 01:38 PM

Tulip Fever 6.5/10

Seanny One Ball 03-02-2019 03:30 PM

Guru Dave you should watch "Jeff Who Lives At Home" if you haven't already. It's yet another Duplass bro's movie, one with plentiful whimsy.

El Vaquero de Infierno 03-02-2019 04:27 PM

I'm currently watching the documentary on flat earthers, "Behind the Curve."

Jesus.

Seanny One Ball 03-02-2019 04:36 PM

Don't you listen to Joe Rogan?

El Vaquero de Infierno 03-02-2019 04:40 PM

I do.

These flat earthers do not seem to be doing themselves any favours by appearing in this documentary.

Of course, I am a round Earth shill, so what do I know.

Seanny One Ball 03-02-2019 04:51 PM

The shape of Earth is timecube.

Always.

slik 03-03-2019 01:59 PM

Greta - 7.0/10

Isabelle Huppert is the best part of the movie, as always she is bouncing off the walls fascinating to watch. Didn't love the movie, Didn't hate the movie. Some plot issues put it in the middle.
