im here for it

Count me in

I'm excited. I think the grand inquisitor and the 5th brother look a bit goofy from thier animated counterparts (the 5th brother seems to be retconned into a human) but I'll wait and see before passing true judgment.
It's crazy to think that something that has been talked about for the last 10 years will be over and done with for good by July. It's bittersweet. If it was possible that I could lock myself into a social media free room for 6 weeks and binge this all at once, I would be ecstatic. Waiting week to week is going to suck, especially when we get that Vader cliffhanger. |
I still like watching things week-to-week.

Obi-Wan tomorrow!
Then there's this: <iframe width="1620" height="1080" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j5UX1Adanis" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> Confirmed to have two seasons of 12 episodes, and the finale of the second season will lead straight into Rogue One. The prequel to the prequel set after the prequel Trilogy. I didn't care about this much, but looks like it could maybe be "cool".... looks "visually good" at the very least.... |
oh hell yes i am there for that
|
Watched the two Obi-Wan episodes.... as expected a bunch of "continuity plotholes" created but it is fun.... so much more lively than Book of Boba Fett.....
|
I didn't give any shits about Andor when it was announced but that trailer looks really cool.

I'm never one to complain about stakes because I enjoy low-stakes shows where we do a lot of character work and "hanging out." But the stakes for some reason feel WAY too low in Obi-Wan given the players involved. It's fucking Darth Vader trying to get revenge on the mofo that turned him into stumps and burnt flesh and I feel like I'm watching episodes of Rebels.
It's a fun show, no doubt. And I'll watch an hour of Ewan McGregor every week since he's the man. But even with the badass inquisitors and Obi/Leia on the run in constant fear, there's somehow a galling lack of intensity and emotion. |
You're not wrong, but how do you create stakes when we know the main characters survive. Solo had the same problem.

And I hate that I used the term "stakes" because it's so overused and a hackneyed critique IMO. So many armchair experts who say, "BUT WHERE'S THE STAKES" and I can't help but roll my eyes because I'd argue too many shows have too many stakes, therefore eliminating all meaning in any of the said stakes. When all there are is stakes, there's nothing actually at stake. Conversely, I love when shows take something that's seemingly meaningless and give it weight. With Kenobi, they've decided it's Obi getting his groove back...which makes sense contextually. But they aren't putting him in interesting enough scenarios for it to work for me. Everything just feels slow, stilted, and unimaginative. And there's a distinct lack of grandeur. Perhaps, he could've been more like Maximus in Gladiator after he lost everything. Or, I'd have preferred if Obi-Wan flirted with full-on psychosis/madness instead of not wanting to fight. It would've made sense, especially considering in A New Hope, everyone thinks he's some crazy old hermit who lives out in the Dune Sea. Of course, by then, he's wise and sage. But it'd have been interesting if he earned the reputation for being a bit of a nutter. Instead, we have a miniseries that's a lesser version of Mando and it's of the same quality as middling Feloni cartoon episodes. Sure, some Rebels, Clone Wars, and Bad Batch episodes are great, but they're more than willing to throw in clunkers. And there's no time for that in a miniseries. I could deal with some of the missteps in Boba Fett because it was clearly a transitional show and the crimelord element had its plusses despite not fleshing out the way it should have. However, I figured they'd go guns-a-blazing with Kenobi and it's really quite blasé. It's disappointing that it's so sanitized given the backstory and even the non-movie canon (e.g., the Darth Vader comics) they can work with. |
I saw the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in the thread title from the main page and I thought Kris P was back :(

|
i had the exact same thought but overall fuck yeah to the whole episode

the only stakes i care about are steaks covered in ketchup and mayo

Can't sleep so watched the new episode.... hot stuff yet again.
|
Was better than the previous 3.

I want to like this cause Ewan as Obi-Wan rules, but there are a lot of really dumb moments that keep taking me out of it. Years of watching a zombie wizard wrestle in wwe has strengthened my sense of disbeleif but even im at my limit with some of these scenes.
Should just give all these star wars shows to Dave Filoni and Bryce Dallas Howard. Their episodes are always the best. |
Yeah I agree Figgy. For once. You fucker. Show is fun and decent, but I feel it's underdelivered for the reasons you've brought forth and the fact that considering who's involved, every episode should be nothing short of very, very good (I won't even say excellent). And it's been a string of c-minuses to c-plusses IMO
|
Also uh, pretty sure the Grand Inquisitor isnt supposed to be dead.
|
Pretty sure Leia isn't supposed to know Obi-Wan either, it is what it is I guess....

I was hoping Asajj Ventress would make an appearance, but I guess she died in some book.
Lame. |
Almost as bad as Aura Singh being killed off in a line from Solo.

Did they say he was still alive? I thought they just said he had passed through the hideaway at some point.
|
Asajj was apparently killed by Dooku so shes gone either way.
Although it says she was laid to rest at Dathomir, and that place is super spooky, so maybe the witches there could use their hoodoo to bring her back. Please? |
Since Asaaj was killed in a book, I really wouldn't take that canon to the bank.
|
Thought I remember seeing that all books after the expanded universe was cancelled would be official canon.
|
Think that one in particular was just some unproduced Clone Wars episodes, so would be fairly "canon".....
But yeah, I mean Darth Maul literally got cut in half and survived so whatever |

I watched Leia's message to Obi-Wan last night, and there is arguably a BIT of wiggle room in what she says. You'd think she'd be like "Wurd, remember the time you saved me from the Inquisitors and all that shit?" but she also never says they've never met. More just reminding him how he helped her dad years ago, and she needs his help now.
|
It's a fuckin stretch, but I really hope they do something to amend it by the final episode.
