Young very much seemed like he wanted to deliver a crotch chop in the Rockies' general direction.

seriously I'm pretty sure could've played a better outfield than he did when he was here, and he's making incredible catches and actually running the bases competently for the Mets

Stadiums sell a bunch of those balls too. My biggest baseball-related regret in my life is not buying a Ryan Raburn HBP ball from Comerica park last summer for $30. My buddy was at the game when it happened, and Raburn got beaned by Dylan Axelrod. After the non-buy, same buddy was at a Sox/Tigers game that Axelrod was again pitching at, and by a cruel Twist of Fate (© Matt Hardy) actually ran into Axelrod at the game. Would've been a perfect moment, having Axelrod sign the ball. Alas.
PS fuck Ryan Raburn. |

The Rockies: They're breaking my heart on a nightly basis
|
Just saw Jeremy Bonderman pitch to Ryan Raburn. In 2013. What the heck is going on with baseball.
|
Watching the Yankees game and hearing Paul Konerko come to the plate while "Harvester of Sorrow" blares through the stadium. Pretty sweet.
|
|
Yankees are 1 away from becoming a .500 team.
|
As they should be
|
I'm still pretty marveled at just how well the Tribe is doing this season. 6 games back on the Tigers, and Detroit is 12-3 head-to-head this season against them. Couple games the other way and things would be a lot more interesting.
|
Yankees game was a heartbreaker last night. As Warren came out I said to a friend, ,"I like this guy, if we need a starter to replace Hughes or Pettite later this year he could be the guy." Almost Immediately tried to punch myself in the face.
|
I had kind of the opposite happen. When Bonderman came out in the 11th I thought he was going to give up a walk-off HR or something. Instead he pitched 3 REALLY solid innings for the Tigers and ended up with the W. Kind of marked out a bit (as evidenced by post #2617).
|
RDD, how about Ryan Rayburn and his contract extension...
|
I don't know if it's become BLATANTLY OBVIOUS or not but Ryan Raburn is my absolute favourite player EVER. Next to Brandon Inge, of course.
SPOILER: show Worth every penny. |
9th Walk-off winner of the year for the Buccos. 28th comeback win. This team is so fun to watch this year. So fun.
|
Guys Ryan Raburn is warming up in the Indians' pen right now. Baseball is just taunting me at this point, I can't make this shit up.
|
Have Ryan Raburn on my team in the show. Not this year's, like 09 or 10 via fantasy draft. Think he's played every position at some point. Also hit some clutch homeruns.
|
That's what I think of when Ryan Raburn is mentioned.

Fucking hate whatever mongoloid was calling the Dodgers game tonight with Steve Lyons. "Kenley Jansen has recorded 27 outs in a row. That means he pitched a perfect game. Huh huh huh"
|
If the Cubs were to shop Starlin Castro, I wonder what they could still get in return.
White Sox don't need to reshape, they need a full on rebuild. |
3 bags of balls and 2 Low A changeup artists. Selling at the top of the market.
|
God....last year they had intro talks of a Castro for Upton swap with the dbacks. Never went anywhere but both sides thought about it.
|
A-Rod's return to the Stadium tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should be good. Or bad. Maybe for him. |
Awful
|
Can't wait to watch the game. MOSTLY because Detroit is playing but the A-Rod story is exciting in its own right.
|
Love A-Rod. He's going to get the John Cena reaction tonight, until he does something meaningful, which will then be cheered.
|
I think you might be one of the only A-Rod apologists left. Rare company.

Kenny Williams must be losing it. |
I'm no apologist. I think that, if he did indeed lie and continue to cheat, he's an asshole who cheated everyone, and even more so, himself, out of being arguably the greatest player of all time. He could have been the guy to defeat the evil Bonds career HR mark, but instead, he's essentially the current mega heel Bonds.
With that said, I do love him as a player. Juice or no juice, he's an extremely talented, devoted player who would have been one of the greats regardless of drug use. He's a son of bitch of a person, but I still enjoy watching A-Rod the player. |
Miguel Cabrera is the best. What a clutch hit. Wow.

OF COURSE Detroits 12-game win streak comes to an end v. the New York Yankees @ "new" Yankee Stadium in A-Frauds 1st home game this year, in a walk-off in the 10th fucking inning. :nono:

If not wins, at least I get some good photo opportunities with all my time at AT&T Park.

Roids do not make a player better. Baseball is a skill driven sport. PEDs do not teach plate discipline, approach, swing path, swing mechanics, etc. Nor do they influence hand eye coordination, pitch recognition, and all of the other skills that go along with baseball. All roids did was either/both help him recover from workouts/injury faster and maintain strength and health. He still had/has to have well developed skills built up and around God given talent in order to excel. |
<font color=goldenrod>The Pirates are just 12 wins away from breaking The Streak.</font>
|
Assuming A-Rod was telling the truth previously about 2001 being the start of his roids, then based on his 1994-2000 stats, he would have been a good to great type player. Probably not MVP or Hall of Fame caliber like Griffey was during that period or Bonds for his pre-roids career.
If he did them while at Seattle, then somewhere in the 1998-2000 period would be the likeliest spot in terms of certain stats. |
A cheat is a cheat. And Joba Chamberlain left a slime trail on the field this afternoon.
|
Quote:
Brady Anderson was not better because of roids, right? Arod may have been an all time great without them but we will never know. All we can say is hes a fucking cheater that should be exiled like Bonds and Sosa |
TBF A-Rod was very very highly touted coming into the league, people expected him to be great.
Without the PEDs he would have still been a great player. Don't think anybody is disputing that. In order to "stay on the top" though, the PEDs obviously helped that. Like Damian Rey said, a lot of times in a sport like baseball the PEDs don't make them "better", but they help them with their consistency and help them maintain what they already have. Lotta people joke that baseball is such a super lazy sport (not a lot of running etc) but being able to perform at the peak of your ability for 162 games is no easy task. The PEDs defs helped him do what he does for as long as he has. That being said, the whole saga of him trying to deny it etc etc is mostly what people are getting uppity about, I guess. IDK. Tired of hearing the letters P E and D come up any time anyone mentions baseball. Just ban him so we can move on. crossrine |
There's no moving on from this. Baseball is forever tainted. You can ban Arod, but what Bonds did and got away with will never be forgotten. Bonds got of scot free and that is the biggest crime in the history of this sport. Arod is the sacrificial lamb for Bonds.
MLB isn't blameless. They probably let Arod get away with some of the PED so he could have a shot of taking the record since he's not really Bonds level of a cocksucker even though he's pretty close. |
People thought Dallas MacPherson was going to be stellar. Todd Van Popple too. Roids probably would've helped them.
|
Remember Eric Gagne getting ridiculed for how bad he stunk when he wasn't using roids around the time of the trade to Boston and later with Milwaukee.
|
I don't live in a world of what ifs
I don't care if he could have been great without them. A rod DID use then and in negates every achievement he had on the field. I cannot believe Pete rose is banned for life and these roiders aren't. I would rather my kids have rose as a role model than anyone else. He was the hardest working player of all time, and the most competitive. Guy played his heart out every day. Gambling is against the rules but his acts effected less games than arod cheating for 10 years and winning a ring. Disgusting. |
For anyone who thinks peds don't increase every bit of performance a player has, look at melky Cabrera. Below average started in NY and ATL then an all star in KC and SF.
But yeah Damian ray, it doesn't make bad players good. |
<font color=goldenrod>At this point I think baseball just needs to acknowledge that the steroid era happened. Put up a wing in the HOF specifically for the 90s/00s and just be like "yeah, this was an era of baseball and a lot of people cheated during this time...draw your own conclusions".
But the writers will probably continue to refuse voting for anybody they even remotely think might have cheated. Even guys like Bagwell and Piazza who have never been officially implicated aside from like one rogue writer accusing them of doing it for no reason other than they hit a lot of HR in the steroid era. Leaving out known roiders like McGwire is one thing, but I guarantee at least one clean guy who is clearly HOF worthy will be left out unjustly.</font> |

Frank Thomas is going to WALTZ into the Hall this year. Not one person will hold him back. I think the only clean guys not making wont be because of doubt, but numbers. Fred McGriff belongs in the Hall, but because of Juicers skewing numbers in his era he falls short. |
Fucking Crime Dawg for HOF 2014 lets make this happen TPWW
|
<font color=goldenrod>I hope you're right about Frank Thomas. No question he deserves it. But the Bagwell and Piazza snubs have me concerned that these old fogey voters have decided that the entire era is tainted and all power hitters should be questioned. It's not right. Even Craig fucking Biggio got left off and he wasn't even a power hitter. 3,000 hits is normally a lock.
Actually Bagwell and Piazza could be in deep shit if they don't make it this year since this is the last year before locks like Glavine and Maddux enter the ballot, Smoltz the following year, etc.</font> |
Do you assume pitchers wont be tainted by PEDs? Guys like Thomas and Griffey are fine because they never had even a whiff of suspicion. Bagwell and Piazza and Biggio will make it with time. This was a "statement year" by the writers.
|
Not to say those pitchers used PEds, but it would be naive to think that during the steroid era there were good pitchers that declined to be great by avoiding the stuff.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Pitchers most certainly roided, but most of them get overlooked since everybody associates PEDs with dingers. Lone exception being Clemens and that's just because he got caught.</font>
|
Biggie is a class act and a hell of a player. But he never won anything, barely sniffed being top 5 at his position many years of his career. A lot of writers want years of dominance where biggio was always just good.
Big Hurt was a multiple time MVP and the most feared hitter in te mid 90s. Maddux will be first ballot. I think they also have their own code on first ballot players where they will hold a guy back a year saving first ballot status for guys who are on their own level. Like I remember gammons saying piazza is a sure fire hall of gamer but not a first ballot guy...which blows my mind. Baseball voters have that stupid code. |
Soriano gets his 2000th career hit via a home run off JV. Dangit.
