Mr. Nerfect 07-27-2022 08:36 PM

People are talking about what happens when those contracts expire, making Khan’s point moot. But of course fanboys are going to ignore that and brag about Khan having people locked down like they don’t criticize WWE for the same thing.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens if the unhappy talent in AEW start requesting their releases. We don’t really know of anyone besides Gresham that’s allegedly done it, save for a couple of green women who want out of wrestling.

You can tell by the snippets of CM Punk talking about the changes that it’s got people in AEW on edge, because a lot of their bargaining power has slipped away now that there is potential for the WWE to lose some of the negative associations of Vince and his style.

Destor 07-27-2022 08:52 PM

Tbf their top guys could buy out their contracts...they might be able to get the competition to pay the fee too. I dont think AEW has a non compete clause.

Destor 07-27-2022 08:52 PM

Whoops wrong page

Destor 07-27-2022 08:54 PM

(Im not saying they will mind you)

Destor 07-27-2022 08:55 PM

It is interesting though. If the wwe becomes a place where they want to work would they go? The earning potential is clearly higher. More dates though. Pros and cons.

I was going to mention this in the Ric Flair thread. It doesn’t seem like a very WWE thing to do, but there’s a new regime. A few things are possible:

If someone sees the Ric Flair show as a potential springboard, ala All In, they could go to Tony Khan (or even WWE) and make plays for some of their talent. TK, especially, is allegedly running at a major deficit. If someone with money offered to buy out the contract of a Jay Lethal or Samoa Joe, even for cents on the dollar, that’s money TK isn’t spending and is getting.

Another possibility is that WWE get big eyes for some AEW talent that are under contract and make offers to work with AEW on that front. It looks good for a publicly traded company to play nice sometimes, and if they can get access to Daniel Bryan, Christian or whoever without needing to wait for their deals to come up, they could just work out a thing where they use them in conjunction to their AEW work.

Mr. Nerfect 07-28-2022 04:58 AM

Jonathan Gresham must have the biggest balls in AEW, according to Punk. Didn’t he also say something about talent sticking together?

Jordan 07-28-2022 08:30 AM

AEW guys need to shut the fuck up about WWE. It's just annoying, stop being bitter, you sound like a douche. Just enjoy AEW and help us enjoy it, get Tony to stop being a nerd on Twitter everyday and stop worrying about Vince and Triple Haitch.

I know that at those Con events they get asked questions so it's probably been rather prompted to Punk to speak like that but still, it's old hat now. We've had years of Punk talking shit about WWE, just be an AEW guy now and stop bringing it up.

Evil Vito 07-28-2022 08:41 AM

Yeah I don't begrudge Punk for his comments. He was asked about the situation directly and he weighed in. If he just made the comments out of hand it would be one thing but reporters and conference attendees are always gonna ask about this kind of shit so may as well speak your mind instead of giving a non-answer.

Evil Vito 07-28-2022 08:50 AM

Also I have no issues with Gresham choosing to yell at Tony and/or ask for his release. It's his career and he's got every right to try to find a better professional situation for himself if he wants to.

I can easily see where Gresham's unhappiness comes in. He was flying the ROH banner all throughout their shutdown, was trying to keep the ROH name going by defending the belt everywhere etc. Then he is made to drop the ROH title to an AEW signing just like all the other title holders.

I don't blame Tony for putting the belt on Claudio, to me that feels like the right move. But that doesn't mean Gresham doesn't have the right to be a bit miffed about it.

Re: Seth Rollins

Regardless of personal feelings on the guy and the respect he commands from me, he’s a top 5 talent for WWE, heavily featured on TV, and a veteran of the business at this point. Surely he should be aware of this well known rule?

Yes, he should. Do not compare yourself to something greater. It isn’t hard.

You’re making it sound like wrestlers can’t make stupid decisions.

Giving a non-answer is kind of what he did. He racked his brain trying to find something that made sense instead of just saying “Good for them, I hope they fix their issues.”

Mr. Nerfect 07-28-2022 01:51 PM

Brody King got a tombstone for Darby Allin tattooed onto him. Which is stupider — real or fake?

Yeah, bringing attention to that could be a mistake. Pretty stupid move to make your popularity (and lack thereof) a talking point of your show.

Mr. Nerfect 07-28-2022 02:17 PM

Tony Khan is going to be licensing music for Chris Jericho too. Because he hasn’t already spent enough money on his washed up act.

You’re one AEW fanboy. There are a lot of people running with the idea of Gresham being a mark for himself, wanting to go over Claudio, being unprofessional, being “woke,” etc. Anything to try and bury the idea that the booker in AEW cannot communicate effectively.

Destor 07-28-2022 03:32 PM

No one knew who was the RoH champ. There's no reason to be loyal to him. Its a business.

#1-norm-fan 07-28-2022 04:01 PM

Vito knows that old TEW rule. As soon as you take control of the company, get the titles on the right guys immediately.

Destor 07-28-2022 04:04 PM

Honestly...thats great advice

Claudio should absolutely be ROH Champ. Well, you can get into the argument about whether or not ROH should even exist and whether it’s firing a blank with the guy. But we don’t know that Gresham was pushing back against that at all. That’s a scarecrow being set up by AEW fans (at this point anyway).

Mr. Nerfect 07-28-2022 06:19 PM

Lol, ok, Punk won points with me for a quip in an IGN interview. He said AEW has something for everyone: “If you like technical wrestling — we’ve got that. If you like the garbage stuff? We got that.”

100%. Every EWR and TEW game I've ever started, first order of business is always to look at the roster, decide if any of the champs should keep their belts and otherwise map out the route to get the belts on the people I want as quickly as possible.

Didn't always change the belts. Sometimes I'd happen to start a game with the fed right at the time where the guy I felt should be World champ already had it. But even then I'd thinking about who would be taking the belt off them months down the line.

Sepholio 07-28-2022 11:58 PM

Rampage apparently a disaster this week. Most of the audience left because they were having issues getting a pre-taped segment (with Ruby Soho and Anna Jay I think) to play and instead of moving on they just kept on dicking around with it and tried like 3 or 4 times and delaying everything. Everyone finally got pissed and bailed.

Also apparently some kind of altercation between Stokely Hathaway/Lee Moriarty and a fan. Dunno any details about it rn.

Mr. Nerfect 07-29-2022 03:12 AM

Ha, sounds more interesting than the actual show. AEW sucks. Even the hardcores know it.

Evil Vito 07-29-2022 04:08 PM

LOL PWI is claiming that during his argument with Khan, Gresham used his ranking in the PWI 500 as a reason for why he should be presented better.

I don't buy that story tbh but the thought of it cracks me up.

I don’t buy it either, lol.

Sepholio 07-29-2022 09:49 PM

Reports saying that when Gresham got into his argument with TK that he cited his PWI ranking (20th) as to why he should be better utilized.

AHAHAHA what a mark.

Sting Fan 07-29-2022 10:54 PM

Rampage pretty good so far. Yuta vs Jericho will be good.

Whatever the Stokely incident was it wasn’t noticeable on the show.

Sting Fan 07-29-2022 11:19 PM

Had suuuper low expectations for Ruby vs. Anna Jay but it was pretty good. Not a Ruby fan but did enjoy Anna Jay and Tay Vs. Ford and Bunny stuff so this was nice to see.

Can we get the TBS belt on Stat now please?

Destor 07-29-2022 11:23 PM

I buy the pwi bit. Lotta guys these days are marks for that kind of stuff
