ClockShot 02-22-2016 07:52 PM

Mmmm. 6.4 million played The Division.

That number should make the boys at Bungie nervous a bit. And put them on notice to up their game (literally) soon.

Kalyx triaD 02-22-2016 11:29 PM

I'm sure they're gonna watch closely as Destiny 2 is in development now. To be honest there's some things they could learn from GTAOnline as well, but Division really is the closest analogous game to theirs.

The Darkzone (their version) would be fascinating in Destiny context.

Today's News:
1) For those who had problems connecting to Xbox Live the past few days, a hacker group called New World Hackers claimed responsibility for waves of DDoS attacks which went as far as to affect the ability to play offline/single player games. The group claims they did it as a form of protest over the lack of server security by major companies but also hinted at nefarious reasons as well.

4) The developer of Ori and the Blind Forest, Thomas Mahler, recently lashed out at Nintendo for being too secretive in regards to the NX's development and warned it could lead to 3rd parties being less willing to support the platform. His main problems involve the lack of devkits currently available and the rumored mid-to-late 2016 launch date.
http://www.destructoid.com/ori-dev-n...x-344003.phtml

Fignuts 02-23-2016 10:37 PM

All these hacker groups that claim to do these ddos attacks for altruistic reasons are all full of shit. They do it just to make themselves feel important. That's all.

Kalyx triaD 02-23-2016 11:02 PM

We should shoot a hacker in the face to make an altruistic point about ducking.

Disturbed316 02-24-2016 01:16 AM

I don't know much about DDoS attacks, but I gather it's when they (somehow) send so much traffic to a website it can't handle it and it crashes. How does this work with a service like Xbox Live? Aren't Xbox's the only thing that connect to it? They surely couldn't simulate millions of different Xbox's connecting at once?

If it's on the internet, anything can connect to it. Even if the connection doesn't do anything, you can still flood it.

Emperor Smeat 02-24-2016 02:05 AM

Going to assume the same but on a much larger scale since it has to attack a lot of servers at once to cause anything significant to happen. Also going to assume how apps connect or use Live might be the same way hackers are able to attack the service since both are coming from the outside.

Since the Xbox One is a lot more online-oriented than the Xbox 360, makes sense that a DDoS attack would hurt it a lot more. Especially if those same attacks can go as far as making it not possible to launch games without going completely offline.

I wonder how frequently this would have happened if they kept their daily authorisation check. Probably constantly

As predicted, Vivendi is looking to buy more shares in Ubisoft. Definitely going for a takeover.

Yves Guillemot met with Canadian officials to gather support and to look around for some investors.

Is Vivendi still related to Blizzard at all? Or did they "break up" before Blizzard teamed up with Activision

I forget/don't care that much about what billionaires are friends

road doggy dogg 02-27-2016 12:27 PM

I didn't catch it in the Direct, but did they say if Sun/Moon are (or are not) coming out for the 3DS? They didn't ambiguously leave the possibility of it coming out on NX or something out there did they?

Vivendi owned both Activision and Blizzard (and Sierra) and ended up selling their shares after they got a new CEO. Now they have a new CEO who wants to buy every Frnch media company ever, apparently.

Yeah, it's 3DS. People are pissed about it because it "won't be as good", but it's goddamn Pokemon, not a technical showpiece.

That's what I thought (re: pokemon stuff)... love my 3DS

Fignuts 02-29-2016 07:39 PM

Don't really care to see a WWI battlefield. Would rather they follow COD's lead and go futuristic. Maybe a sequel to 2142, which is an underappreciated entry in the series.

Kalyx triaD 02-29-2016 08:00 PM

So long as they find a way to retain the gameplay with 90yo tech and weapons as a template.

Disturbed316 03-01-2016 01:06 AM

Or go back to Bad Company

Emperor Smeat 03-01-2016 06:11 PM

Today's News:
1) SALES & FREEBIES:

ClockShot 03-01-2016 07:52 PM

Yep.

How's Playstation Now doing? Did that ever pick up steam? They should just change that over to a year subscription thing or a small add-on fee for PS+ users.

Emperor Smeat 03-01-2016 07:59 PM

Think they've recently added a lot of games for it but probably like a lot of things with the Playstation name tact on, not doing that well either or else they would have boasted about its success a lot by now.

Think it also lost a lot of luster once Microsoft started their own backwards compatibility-like program for the Xbox One and it being free.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 06:41 AM

http://www.theguardian.com/technolog...nsole-hardware

There you go, you could smell it coming.

drave 03-02-2016 06:58 AM

Bleh.

Depending how this unfolds, I may just go back to PC gaming and stay there forever.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 02:54 PM

Or get one of the good consoles.

PC gaming is in a strange limbo at the moment where requirements are all over the place. Compatibility seems to be having a bad time in the last year too.

drave 03-02-2016 03:21 PM

Your usage of "good" is subjective. Nothing wrong with the One and I would still, to this day, take it over the PS4 because I couldn't care less if all games are 1080p 60fps and w/e the hell else everyone raves about.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 03:26 PM

Why?

drave 03-02-2016 03:43 PM

I use it for much more than gaming and it serves very well as a single box with multiple, great usage. More reliable network and better offerings IMO.

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 04:01 PM

It didn't occur to me you already had a One for some reason (my stupidity). I don't think it's an entirely terrible console, I just think it's a dropped ball in a series of dropped balls by MS. The stuff moving to PC as Xbox 'apps' is messy and it's clear they don't want to be in the console business any more but they're married to it.

drave 03-02-2016 04:49 PM

At first I was all for PS4 when Xbox made their now famous E3 show. Then they backpedaled on some things and won me over.... but it was literally down to the moment I was standing in the store.

I don't regret the decision, but the future as they spelled it out (at least on the Surface) sounds awful.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-02-2016 04:55 PM

Honestly bought my Xb1 at the wrong time. They just waited for me to jump in and then go "Fuck it, everythings on PC now".

Emperor Smeat 03-02-2016 05:29 PM

Think Microsoft had been hinting about wanting to merge PC gaming and console gaming going all the way back with the original Xbox. Could have happened way sooner had they not bungled their "Games for Windows" service multiple times.

To a smaller degree, both Nintendo and Sony have hinted or been trying to merge things together like console and handheld gaming (Nintendo) or expand into more areas (Sony).

The Rogerer 03-02-2016 05:44 PM

The Xbox was Microsoft making a move into the living room. The One was them trying to double down on the TV aspect of it, but it was far too late to the dance when most TVs have built in features, and you can get stuff like Chromecasts for next to nothing.

I don't think this is them merging PC and Console, I think this is them retreating. The fight for the living room is lost, for the foreseeable future.

Emperor Smeat 03-02-2016 06:01 PM
