slik 09-24-2012 07:06 PM

If I were Louis CK I'd be pissed too.

slik 09-26-2012 07:27 PM

Well, here it is. DC's "Exciting" new origin of Tim (notice I didn't say Drake...there is a reason for that).

Tim was an Olympic level gymnast and computer hacker honor student. He spent his whole life trying to figure out Batman's identity. Batman got annoyed by this and told Tim he would never be Robin.

Tim, to get Batman's attention, stole 100 million dollars out of Osawld Cobblepot's account. The Penguin sent henchman to his house. Batman saves the day. Tim's parents are forced into the Witness Protection Program so the Penguin will never find them. Tim is given a new last name "Drake" and is told by Batman he will be staying with him now, per the court's orders.

Oh, and he was never Robin. He was always only Red Robin...for some reason.

Kalyx triaD 09-26-2012 07:29 PM

Eh.

Kalyx triaD 09-26-2012 07:30 PM

DCnU is just the longest Elseworlds story ever.

Lock Jaw 09-26-2012 09:03 PM

The thing I liked about the old one was that he was the one who was actively pushing the Robin thing. He SUCCEEDED in figuring out Batman's identity, and then pushed Batman into accepting him as a new Robin.... feeling that Batman needed a Robin. Unlike the other Robins, he was the active driving force behind his own origin.

dronepool 09-26-2012 10:58 PM

I'll stick to the original Tim Drake origin.

Nowhere Man 09-27-2012 01:16 AM

I'm going to find the guy who came up with that stupid fucking origin and beat him to death with a hardcover copy of "A Lonely Place of Dying." I swear to God, it's like the New 52 is deliberately going out of its way to make me hate it.

mitchables 09-27-2012 01:18 AM

Yes, it is absolutely a personal slight directed at you.

Can we just take a second to remember that it's not like everyone was super happy before the reboot? Like, imperfect though it might be, kind of can't forget the fact that before the DCNU, like every book of theirs was losing readers each month. Even the popular ones. The reboot has demonstrably boosted their sales and their audience numbers, even if it's come at the expense of a lot of things/origins/storylines/characters that some people loved. At the end of the day, it was a smart business move. That's all it is. It's not some grand conspiracy to face-fuck your childhood.

Nowhere Man 09-27-2012 01:22 AM

I know that. I'm well aware that DC wasn't in the best place before the reboot. That doesn't change the fact that it's a fucking terrible origin of one of my favorite characters.

mitchables 09-27-2012 01:35 AM

Well, yes and no. It seems like Tim didn't adopt the Robin persona out of respect for the recently deceased Jason, which at least gives some reason - whether you agree with it or not - for him to have not ever officially been a Robin, shitty though it is (I feel you here man, Tim Drake was my Robin growing up).

dronepool 09-27-2012 01:36 AM

Honestly I believe more people will remember Tim as Robin than this shitty new temporary origin.

Terrible dialogue aside (really, Lobdell is not a good writer, but he is copping way too much flak over this whole thing considering it's probably not even his call), it's at least a justification.

dronepool 09-27-2012 01:43 AM

The funny thing is, he was ID'ed as FORMER ROBIN or Robin in Batman #1 with one of Batman's ID scanner gizmo's.

Lock Jaw 09-27-2012 01:43 PM

And Neil just let him. Definitely a terrible salesman.

Fignuts 09-27-2012 01:49 PM

I don't see what's so terrible about this new Robin origin. No, it's not as good as the original tim drake origin, but was anyone expecting it to be?

Yeah, the whole court order to stay with batman thing is kind of silly, but whatever. What's more important is how the character is portrayed, and they've done a fine job with that part.

Kalyx triaD 09-27-2012 02:55 PM

Well it is Superman. ...'Boy. Whatever.

Shadow 09-27-2012 07:52 PM

So speaking of Jason Todd...he's dead in Young Justice. Died during the 5 year gap. So yeah...shit goes down in that show.

Also starts up again Saturday I CAN'T WAIT!

Because it sucks harder than a bukkake movie. There was no reason for them to alter it at all, it takes away from his development.

Dark Knight Returns was great. Loved the music.

Me too! They did not let us down either. The episode started a lot of new story arcs while keeping the happenings of Artemis death relevant.

Cant wait to hear about the JL that left earth, glad that they showed the homage to fallen friends, and glad to see Arsenal. Just a solid episode

So, Grant Morrison's "Multiversity" that was supposed to come out ages ago, is apparently on track for late 2013. First issue to feature The Watchmen.... I mean... the Charlton Heroes.

Grant Morrison+Multiverse. Instant buy.

McLegend 10-01-2012 06:28 PM

Knightfall is seriously 3 volumes. That's kind of a lot.

I did get the Dark knight returns and the animated DVD on Friday. I hope the book lives up to the hype.

mitchables 10-01-2012 09:02 PM

No matter how hard I try, I just can't get into Frank Quitely's art style :-\

Fignuts 10-01-2012 11:56 PM

When I first picked up New X-men way back in the day, I hated it. But it eventually grew on me to the point where I really enjoy it.

I think it was All Star Superman that turned me around. Even went back and reread all the new x-men books, with my new appreciation of his work.

For me, it depends on the kind of story. I didn't enjoy his art on the more "serious" Batman and Robin.... but I loved it in the wacky adventures of All-Star Superman.

I read The Dark Knight Returns, and I liked it. It's not my favorite Batman story, but I enjoyed it.

It was really violent, and I think the best character was Gordon.

Can def see with the Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises took some things from it.

Kalyx triaD 10-03-2012 05:36 PM

Just finished Green Lantern TAS' first season and checked out the first episode of the second (Guy Gardner debut). This show is awesome and the season one finale was incredibly epic. Gardner's perfect. Really like Aya's development.

I would have no problem this show kicking off a new animated universe, and I would do a CGI New Gods show right after this.

Shadow 10-03-2012 08:32 PM

Pssst...that was the midseason break. We're still on season 1.

Kalyx triaD 10-03-2012 08:37 PM

Oh, okay.

Kalyx triaD 10-03-2012 08:38 PM

Deadshot or KGBeast?

Kalyx triaD 10-05-2012 08:03 PM

Deadshot. I doubt KGBeast would make it on the show. Then again... China White made it.

Gonna bet Roy Harper debuts in S3.

Shadow 10-06-2012 11:58 AM

Would really love some KGBeast. One of the more underutilized DC villains in my opinion.

Lock Jaw 10-06-2012 02:30 PM

Kind of "dated" now, but he was indeed "cool" back in the day.

Kalyx triaD 10-08-2012 06:49 PM

GreenArrowTV has confirmed that the series' gang has gotten their King. Currie Graham of Criminal Minds will be playing the role, and he is joined by Kyle Schmid, who will play 'Ace.'

Series producer Andrew Kreisberg had this to say: “You’ll see with the Royal Flush Gang, that the dynamic of the family, and the iconography of the playing cards are going to be there, without the supernatural bent. I think we’ve come up with a really clever way to portray them in a more grounded, realistic world. The Royal Flush Gang are in episode 6, and we’re really proud of that episode. We think it’s one of the most successful attempts at alchemy that we’ve performed. The Huntress is pretty much straight out of the book because she’s such a grounded character, but the Royal Flush Gang were the most outlandish villains from the comics, but they turned out to be our most grounded villains, and the relationship that Oliver has with King, the leader of the gang, we’re really proud of it."

Shadow 10-08-2012 08:18 PM

Royal Flush Gang was...supernatural?

Dah hell?

Lock Jaw 10-08-2012 08:39 PM

More like "super science". They had some sort of machine that would alter probabilities to make good luck for themselves/bad luck for others.

Kalyx triaD 10-08-2012 09:19 PM

Has the Joker ever considered joining the RFG, because... ya know.

Skippord 10-09-2012 12:00 AM

there's an episode of one of the Justice League cartoons where he is the leader of the Royal Flush Gang

Kalyx triaD 10-09-2012 03:48 AM

Ah yes, I remember that one. The unofficial Teen Titans cameo with all the voices being in.

Shadow 10-09-2012 06:02 PM

Considered? In the comics at time he was the leader. Now, not so much.

It bugged me when I think it was newsarama was doing a year end awards thing and this cover got pretty far in the "best cover" category:

At least I think it was this one. Definitely beat some pretty good covers though, and I was just "HOW?"

Lock Jaw 10-10-2012 05:26 PM

I been catching up on Batman because I want to check out the Death of the Family arc.

The whole Court of Owls storyline was pretty "boss". I still couldn't help but think how much better The Night of Owls story could have been in the old universe, though.

At least it doesn't have a high collar.

I really liked the Court of Owls storyline.

I read an interview with Scott Snyder where he says he looks at Batman as the King and Gotham as his kingdom.

Court of Owls was about a king discovering he didn't know his kingdom as well as he thought and Death of the Family is about a Court Jester reminding the King of all his failures and trying to break him down.

Lock Jaw 10-11-2012 09:01 PM

I am also really loving All-Star Western. Caught up with that as well. I have actually been going back and reading the old Jonah Hex series from the same writers. It is also pretty great. I don't know how they could screw up a movie with the dude. Not that I have actually seen the movie. I will probably give it a watch after I am done reading the series.

Now I will go watch Arrow. Forgot to watch it yesterday.

Arrow was good. I will follow it.

Ollie seemed good with fighting, I'm betting Slade trained him on that island.

DC Animated Films Move On:

Quote:

Expected in the summer of 2013 is Superman: Unbound, which will be an adaptation of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank's 'Braniac' story. Following that will be Justice League: Flashpoint, which adapts the Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert mini-series that jump started the New 52 last year. 2013 will also see the release of LEGO Batman: DC Heroes Unite, which will be an animated adaptation of the popular video game series.
Holy shit.

Lock Jaw 10-14-2012 03:05 AM

Flashpoint movie? Really?

Superman one could be good. Wonder if they will follow it up with a New Krypton movie (possibly several?)

Kalyx triaD 10-14-2012 05:22 AM

Flashpoint could be their sly way of saying every animated movie going forward will be DCnU based. It is very uncommon for a recent comic storyline to go mainstream that quickly.

Nowhere Man 10-15-2012 01:54 AM

I really liked the Brainiac storyline, so I'm looking forward to that one.

Flashpoint, though? Blegh. I was not a fan. Especially if this means that all of DC's animated stuff from here on out is gonna be "New 52" related.

Lock Jaw 10-15-2012 02:04 AM

I just want them to make a Superman: Birthright movie. Preferably as the start of a live-action franchise... but we already know that isn't going to happen.... so... make an animated one.

Kalyx triaD 10-15-2012 02:47 AM

Man of Steel might be going in that direction.

Lock Jaw 10-15-2012 01:33 PM

Lex Luthor isn't in Man of Steel, so it can't possibly be going in that direction. It can certainly borrow some elements from it, though.

slik 10-15-2012 02:01 PM

Glad that both Deathstroke and Deadshot are in Arrow.

I enjoyed Flashpoint, in particular Thomas Wayne as Batman.

It should be an easy adaptation.

Quite possibly something to do with the Stephanie Brown debacle.

But that might just be the ravings of a fandom scorned.

Nowhere Man 10-16-2012 02:04 AM

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the DCnU should just be the Young Justice Universe. It'd make the comics about a thousand times better.

Kalyx triaD 10-16-2012 03:29 AM

Young Justice is one of the best things coming from DC right now. Their whole animated slate is pretty good. The comics are besides the point for me now.
