Terrible salesman. Talking his way out of a book sale.
|
|
Louis is going to be pissed.
|
If I were Louis CK I'd be pissed too.
|
Well, here it is. DC's "Exciting" new origin of Tim (notice I didn't say Drake...there is a reason for that).
Tim was an Olympic level gymnast and computer hacker honor student. He spent his whole life trying to figure out Batman's identity. Batman got annoyed by this and told Tim he would never be Robin. Tim, to get Batman's attention, stole 100 million dollars out of Osawld Cobblepot's account. The Penguin sent henchman to his house. Batman saves the day. Tim's parents are forced into the Witness Protection Program so the Penguin will never find them. Tim is given a new last name "Drake" and is told by Batman he will be staying with him now, per the court's orders. Oh, and he was never Robin. He was always only Red Robin...for some reason. |
Eh.
|
DCnU is just the longest Elseworlds story ever.
|
The thing I liked about the old one was that he was the one who was actively pushing the Robin thing. He SUCCEEDED in figuring out Batman's identity, and then pushed Batman into accepting him as a new Robin.... feeling that Batman needed a Robin. Unlike the other Robins, he was the active driving force behind his own origin.
|
I'll stick to the original Tim Drake origin.
|
I'm going to find the guy who came up with that stupid fucking origin and beat him to death with a hardcover copy of "A Lonely Place of Dying." I swear to God, it's like the New 52 is deliberately going out of its way to make me hate it.
|
Yes, it is absolutely a personal slight directed at you.
Can we just take a second to remember that it's not like everyone was super happy before the reboot? Like, imperfect though it might be, kind of can't forget the fact that before the DCNU, like every book of theirs was losing readers each month. Even the popular ones. The reboot has demonstrably boosted their sales and their audience numbers, even if it's come at the expense of a lot of things/origins/storylines/characters that some people loved. At the end of the day, it was a smart business move. That's all it is. It's not some grand conspiracy to face-fuck your childhood. |
I know that. I'm well aware that DC wasn't in the best place before the reboot. That doesn't change the fact that it's a fucking terrible origin of one of my favorite characters.
|
Well, yes and no. It seems like Tim didn't adopt the Robin persona out of respect for the recently deceased Jason, which at least gives some reason - whether you agree with it or not - for him to have not ever officially been a Robin, shitty though it is (I feel you here man, Tim Drake was my Robin growing up).
|
Honestly I believe more people will remember Tim as Robin than this shitty new temporary origin.

Terrible dialogue aside (really, Lobdell is not a good writer, but he is copping way too much flak over this whole thing considering it's probably not even his call), it's at least a justification. |
The funny thing is, he was ID'ed as FORMER ROBIN or Robin in Batman #1 with one of Batman's ID scanner gizmo's.
|
|
SUPERMAN JUST STOLE THAT BOOK
|
And Neil just let him. Definitely a terrible salesman.
|
I don't see what's so terrible about this new Robin origin. No, it's not as good as the original tim drake origin, but was anyone expecting it to be?
Yeah, the whole court order to stay with batman thing is kind of silly, but whatever. What's more important is how the character is portrayed, and they've done a fine job with that part. |
Well it is Superman. ...'Boy. Whatever.
|
So speaking of Jason Todd...he's dead in Young Justice. Died during the 5 year gap. So yeah...shit goes down in that show.
Also starts up again Saturday I CAN'T WAIT! |

Dark Knight Returns was great. Loved the music.

I am glad Young Justice is back.

Cant wait to hear about the JL that left earth, glad that they showed the homage to fallen friends, and glad to see Arsenal. Just a solid episode |

So, Grant Morrison's "Multiversity" that was supposed to come out ages ago, is apparently on track for late 2013. First issue to feature The Watchmen.... I mean... the Charlton Heroes.

See, now that's a Watchmen spinoff/tribute/whatever comic that I would actually buy.
|
Grant Morrison+Multiverse. Instant buy.
|
Knightfall is seriously 3 volumes. That's kind of a lot.
I did get the Dark knight returns and the animated DVD on Friday. I hope the book lives up to the hype. |
No matter how hard I try, I just can't get into Frank Quitely's art style :-\
|
When I first picked up New X-men way back in the day, I hated it. But it eventually grew on me to the point where I really enjoy it.
I think it was All Star Superman that turned me around. Even went back and reread all the new x-men books, with my new appreciation of his work. |

I read The Dark Knight Returns, and I liked it. It's not my favorite Batman story, but I enjoyed it.
It was really violent, and I think the best character was Gordon. Can def see with the Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises took some things from it. |
Just finished Green Lantern TAS' first season and checked out the first episode of the second (Guy Gardner debut). This show is awesome and the season one finale was incredibly epic. Gardner's perfect. Really like Aya's development.
I would have no problem this show kicking off a new animated universe, and I would do a CGI New Gods show right after this. |
Pssst...that was the midseason break. We're still on season 1.
|
Oh, okay.
|
Thought it was kinda short. Figured it was like Korra with very little episodes ordered.

I just bought Under The Red Hood
pretty excited to read it eventually |
|
|
Deadshot or KGBeast?
|
Deadshot. I doubt KGBeast would make it on the show. Then again... China White made it.
Gonna bet Roy Harper debuts in S3. |
Would really love some KGBeast. One of the more underutilized DC villains in my opinion.
|
Kind of "dated" now, but he was indeed "cool" back in the day.

Royal Flush Gang was...supernatural?
Dah hell? |
More like "super science". They had some sort of machine that would alter probabilities to make good luck for themselves/bad luck for others.
|
Has the Joker ever considered joining the RFG, because... ya know.
|
there's an episode of one of the Justice League cartoons where he is the leader of the Royal Flush Gang
|
Ah yes, I remember that one. The unofficial Teen Titans cameo with all the voices being in.
|
Considered? In the comics at time he was the leader. Now, not so much.

I enjoyed All-Star Superman, but I think the writing carried the art for me on that one. |
It bugged me when I think it was newsarama was doing a year end awards thing and this cover got pretty far in the "best cover" category:
http://covers2.cbrd.info/28f60e61907...5d53414_xl.jpg At least I think it was this one. Definitely beat some pretty good covers though, and I was just "HOW?" |
I been catching up on Batman because I want to check out the Death of the Family arc.
The whole Court of Owls storyline was pretty "boss". I still couldn't help but think how much better The Night of Owls story could have been in the old universe, though. |
|
I like that costume.
|
he's about 6 inches from SuperHitler
|
Yeah, totally looks like an Alt Evil Superman attire.
At least it doesn't have a high collar. |
Arrow wasn't too bad. A few cheesy dialogue lines in between but it was entertaining. And the main bint is fiiiiiiiiiit.

I read an interview with Scott Snyder where he says he looks at Batman as the King and Gotham as his kingdom. Court of Owls was about a king discovering he didn't know his kingdom as well as he thought and Death of the Family is about a Court Jester reminding the King of all his failures and trying to break him down. |
I am also really loving All-Star Western. Caught up with that as well. I have actually been going back and reading the old Jonah Hex series from the same writers. It is also pretty great. I don't know how they could screw up a movie with the dude. Not that I have actually seen the movie. I will probably give it a watch after I am done reading the series.
Now I will go watch Arrow. Forgot to watch it yesterday. |

Arrow, btw. Has ads, though.
|
I liked it well enough to tune in again.
Is it just me, though, or are they using the exact same mansion for the Queen Mansion that they did in Smallville for the Luthor Mansion? |

I have a feeling Deathstroke helped "train" Ollie on The Island. |
Looks okay.
|
NEEDS MORE POUCHES
|
Let us all consider that he made it on live media in more accurate fashion than Deadpool.
|
Arrow was good. I will follow it.
Ollie seemed good with fighting, I'm betting Slade trained him on that island. |
Just watched the Dark Knight Returns part 1, and I loved it.
Prefer it over the book. |
DC Animated Films Move On:

Flashpoint movie? Really?
Superman one could be good. Wonder if they will follow it up with a New Krypton movie (possibly several?) |
Flashpoint could be their sly way of saying every animated movie going forward will be DCnU based. It is very uncommon for a recent comic storyline to go mainstream that quickly.
|
I really liked the Brainiac storyline, so I'm looking forward to that one.
Flashpoint, though? Blegh. I was not a fan. Especially if this means that all of DC's animated stuff from here on out is gonna be "New 52" related. |
I just want them to make a Superman: Birthright movie. Preferably as the start of a live-action franchise... but we already know that isn't going to happen.... so... make an animated one.
|
Man of Steel might be going in that direction.
|
Lex Luthor isn't in Man of Steel, so it can't possibly be going in that direction. It can certainly borrow some elements from it, though.
|
Glad that both Deathstroke and Deadshot are in Arrow.
I enjoyed Flashpoint, in particular Thomas Wayne as Batman. It should be an easy adaptation. |
DC Comics has canceled the following series:
Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. Blue Beetle (again) Grifter Legion Lost |

This was an amazing episode of Young Justice. I hate the fact that Cartoon NEtwork has decided to put YJ on the shelf until next year. What the fuck is that about? This is literally one of the best shows they have going for them.
|
Quote:
But that might just be the ravings of a fandom scorned. |
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the DCnU should just be the Young Justice Universe. It'd make the comics about a thousand times better.
|
Young Justice is one of the best things coming from DC right now. Their whole animated slate is pretty good. The comics are besides the point for me now.

There's always room for more Batbooks.
Been a while since they did Shadow of the Bat or Legends of the Dark Knight. |
Legends of the Dark Knight is currently going as a Digital Comic.

When are they going to get to the party?!
