I have a coworker who used to be a rasslin fan back in the Attitude Era.... and I kind of got him back into it. He started watching again a few weeks before the Elimination Chamber.

So far, he says he is liking what he is seeing. He likes Daniel Bryan, The Shield, The Wyatts..... and he can't stop going on about Cesaro. Like every time he is like "That Cesaro man...."

VSG 02-27-2014 12:37 AM

Savage and Steamboat laid the match out almost move for move beforehand

CSL 02-27-2014 09:15 AM

Savage used to plan the shit out of a lot of his matches and it worked, pretty nonsensical for them to "complain" about it

The Rogerer 02-27-2014 10:35 AM

It makes perfect sense for them as wrestlers admiring another wrestler's work.

CSL 02-27-2014 10:46 AM

it's almost tantamount to taking something away from the "say what again" scene in Pulp Fiction because they probably discussed how to make it the best they possibly could beforehand. Plenty of guys pride themselves on being able to "go out there with just the finish and nothing else" and that's just lovely but as long as everything turns up roses, it's a daft "complaint" to make

Innovator 02-27-2014 10:50 AM

If WWE wants to get buzz and promote Guardians of the Galaxy, i want to see Torrito vs. Rocket Raccoon.

The Rogerer 02-27-2014 10:52 AM

They're not saying it's a shit match, but funnily enough William Regal and Steve Austin are men who know a bit about wrestling so they have particular standards. Learning that the match was pre-planned takes something away from what they thought the match actually was. Or maybe William Regal is a whiny smark and doesn't know what he's talking about, I dunno.

Brigstocke 02-27-2014 10:55 AM

because I'm claiming they said it was shit or that they don't know a bit about wrestling as opposed to simply finding the general practice of doing it to be a bit daft. I only was rude because I wasn't sure how to be more eloquent.

You said that it was nonsense for them to downgrade the match because it was pre-planned. As wrestlers, finding out a match was pre-planned makes it less remarkable an achievement because they previously thought it was called. Absolutely nothing nonsense about that, you could apply that to just about any school of reviewing your peers.

Rammsteinmad 02-27-2014 12:16 PM

Take it as a knock on Savage and Steamboat, or just take it as my unsolicited $0.02, but I've worked with guys before who plan out their matches move for move, and it is ridiculously frustrating, and certainly leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth after working with that person. Especially once you get out there and start forgetting things and everything goes to shit. Once you deviate from "the script" they start losing their cool.

At the end of the day, a good match is a good match though, whether it's rehearsed move-for-move or done on the fly.

Vastardikai 02-27-2014 02:17 PM

I can actually see both sides of it. On one hand, from a fan's perspective, I can see that a good match is a good match is a good match. So we can get away with saying how daft Regal is.

On the other hand, they're not looking at it from a fan's perspective. They are looking at it from a performer's perspective. Some folks like doing the pre-planning. Others like to improvise and wear the improvisation as a badge of honor. On their end, it's kind of like finding out that there was a great deal of overdubbing on Kiss Alive.

It's not like one perspective is better than another, it's just a different perspective.

I simply don't understand why it makes a difference. Pre-planning the whole thing beforehand is hardly "cheating" or anything. If anything, it can lead to more potential difficulties. To quote the following Rammsteinmad post, "a good match is a good match though, whether it's rehearsed move-for-move or done on the fly."

dunno, only ever really found it frustrating if the other guy forgets everything and it was their idea. Planning things out is especially useful when you first start out. Never had somebody lose their cool with it tho, guys that have forgotten stuff usually seem to be relieved that you either remember or are simply calling something. That said, before I'd even had my first match, I was at a show being ran by the guys/fed I trained with and they had a no show and I was put "on standby" and spent 5 minutes having a guy speed talk his way through an entire match. In that case it would have been awful and it just made me about 300x more nervous but they wound up doing something else. Basically, I just don't see a problem either way. Ideally (for me) you call the start, a few hope/cutoffs and your finish and do the rest on the fly. If not, no big deal, never made me think less of anybody else.

whiteyford 02-27-2014 03:22 PM

In Aksana's defense, she did at least put the knee spot to where Eva was now going and not where it was originally meant to be. Still looked bad but could have been a lot worse/stupid.

Apparently a few years back Yoshi, Sheamus and Ted Dibiase were roommates in Florida. Sheamus apparently acted like the head of the apartment while the three lived together.

The story goes that Sheamus was using things in the apartment that belonged to Yoshi and Ted, specifically a protein drink mixer.

Apparently, Ted and Yoshi confronted Sheamus at the same time one day about the use of their items in the apartment. This made Sheamus upset enough to react physically.

The story goes, Sheamus threw the protein drink mixer at Yoshi, who caught it. Sheamus then proceeded to try and fight Yoshi.

Yoshi is no slouch, this guy has gone through the New Japan dojo and has some ameteur boxing skills as well. Apparently, Yoshi beat up Sheamus pretty bad and supposedly Sheamus was on the verge of crying.

If this is true I find this story to be hilarious. It just goes to show you that the biggest dog in the fight is not always the toughest.

Yoshi is certainly not in line for a WWE title shot anytime soon, but I wonder if these two will ever face off one on one. It would interesting to know if they still have any bad blood or if they patch things up.

They worked together in ECW, so it is possible that all is better between the two grapplers, but you never know. A big guy like Sheamus may have been embarrassed enough to hold a grudge.

If these reports are true, then I for one, am happy that Yoshi was able to quell the bully. There is a report going around that says when Yoshi was asked about the incident he replied, "I just wanted to teach Sheamus a lesson in respect. Don’t mess with other people's stuff."

I hope its true, because if it is then it's one of the funniest things I have heard in a while.

Yeah, I remember hearing about that and thinking it was quite funny.

Though that does remind me that Tyler Reks did some podcast recently and mentioned Sheamus. About Sheamus, he said "he was nice in the beginning, then I realised that he steps on heads and he suddenly isn't your friend anymore. He only does what's good for Sheamus."

Reading that, along with the story FacePalmMonkey posted, paints the picture that Sheamus might be a bit of a dick.

Reks also said some things about Cena, Triple H and Laurinaitis, so if anyone is interested:

John Laurinaitis - If you're not on the radar, he doesn't care about you. I got belittled by him quite a bit. When I came back as T. Reks, that was Vince. Next thing you know, I was Johnny's best friend. And when all that ended, he wouldn't give me the time of day. He is not a nice person. He is all strictly business.

Triple H - Nice guy. He's got everything dialled in for the company and he's taking it in the right direction. Definitely into helping his talent.

John Cena - He's a workhorse. He does incredible things for the company and he busts his butt. Outside the ring, I can't stand the guy. He's not a nice guy, he holds talent down. He steals ideas. He's a prick.

I watched the WCW Halloween Phantom vs. Tom Zenk match twice this past week. I have to say, in hindsight...

SPOILER: show
it was kind of obvious, even before the Rude Awakening, that it was Rude.

For one thing, he had the Rick Rude crazy eyes and his mask couldn't hide the trademark mustache. For another, Rude always measured for the elbow drop with his arm initially extended, the back of his fist down, before he brought it up for the elbow drop. He did that with the hood on.

I look at it from the perspective of performing it myself. And I'm not at all expecting them to act like marks. I entirely understand everything you've said and repeated from your first response. It's a mindset prevalent with "old school" guys and one I don't really get. Not even don't really get, just don't really care for or agree with. I also haven't headlined countless PPV's and WrestleMania's and drawn millions upon millions of dollars and worked with and for the biggest names ever and could also listen to the two guys talk forever and be in awe of most things they say. Call it a difference of perspective. That is all.

Former WWE star Virgil has a minor role in a new independent movie called Bridge & Tunnel. Producers cast Virgil after they saw him selling autographs in New York City's Grand Central Station. Below is the trailer:

it was kind of obvious, even before the Rude Awakening, that it was Rude.

For one thing, he had the Rick Rude crazy eyes and his mask couldn't hide the trademark mustache. For another, Rude always measured for the elbow drop with his arm initially extended, the back of his fist down, before he brought it up for the elbow drop. He did that with the hood on.

I re-read this post. I have to say, in hindsight...

SPOILER: show
I'M A FUCKING NERD!!!!

I hate that I like this current Batista character.

Anybody Thrilla 03-01-2014 12:04 AM

Also, Sheamus is really good.

Also, Alberto Del Rio.

Bad News Gertner 03-01-2014 12:38 AM

Agreed on all points. I'll even say dickhead heel Batista is the best heel in a decade. His facial expressions are just money and I love how he interacts with the crowd.
