Found myself really annoyed that they spoiled the Riley/Parker match and post-match promo with Owens by showing it the promo package for the Ohio show. Riley winning was a shoo-in but it really bugs me when they spoil their own stuff.
Same thing happened with TNA this week; caught part of one of their One Night Only specials that ruined the outcome of a big match yet to be shown on TV. |

Alexa Bliss is really growing on me.
Holy fuck, I love the wrestling but I have to watch it on mute. That god damn crowd is fucking awful. Bunch of bloated neck beards trying to get themselves over with chants every 5 seconds.
Got MSG-like vibes from the setup used this week. Tron being in the background and main camera coming from the usual announcers side on RAW/Smackdown.
If only he had the demon, maybe then he would've defeated Owens for the strap.
Also, Alexa Bliss is hawt as fuck!
Yes. Yes Alexa is...

CJ Parker has requested and was granted his release.

Bit of a shame really, but I don't blame the guy one bit.

Seemed like the WWE gave up on trying to salvage Parker's gimmick or role once he got promoted as top jobber.
Wonder if Bull Dempsey becomes the main jobber to the stars now. Been in that sort of role since the Corbin feud. |
CJ Parker was actually fairly good. In the ring he had some ways to go, but he was a natural talker. He was a great fit for the WWE's style. He reminded me a lot of The Miz. I was hoping to see a stable of entitled millenials pop up in coming weeks. CJ Parker, Brad Maddox and Zack Ryder all helping each other out would have been pretty cool.
TNA jokes aside, he seems like the sort of guy that Derrick Bateman was -- in that there is a tremendous amount of personality there that TNA can bring out. I'd add him to Ethan Carter III's entourage. |
Didn't really feel this week's episode, which is a first in a long while.
Everything was okay. Nothing was actively bad. It was just all kind of there. Sami Zayn came back, after basically being murdered and then totally okay to go on the Middle East tour and then mostly forgotten about until tonight with a pretty average promo and no real interaction with Kevin Owens. Okay. Lucha Dragons vs. Blake/Murphy was better than their live special match, but it looks pretty much just like a way to get a little more rub from the Dragons before they graduate to the main roster. No real story, just mentions on commentayr about the Carmella thing. Emma and Bayley at least have a story, but it's not a very engaging one and didn't advance much. Jason Jordan and Tye Dillenger's match was picking up a story from what feels like two months ago that no one really had a reason to care about. Probably would have helped to have it more immediately after Jordan walking out on Dillenger, but I guess that's what you get with taping four shows at a time and only having an hour of TV. The guy that walked out won, that was it, so I'm assuming this generally gets forgotten and Jason Jordan beats up nobodies for several weeks now. Breeze / Itami was good, but again, just kind of there. They're having a main show sort of feud where one guy wins, then the other, then they fight some more because that qualifies as a feud. Usually NXT is really good at having progression and stories for the matches, with a couple of random tossed together quick matches peppered in each week. This week really felt just like clearing up loose ends that weren't really that important and putting random stuff out there. Even after a special, there's usually at least one or two threads going on to make something on the show have weight. A lot of stuff has closed up over the past couple of weeks, and nothing else has really started up to take it's place. Hopefully they can get some momentum back for the Owens/Zayn thing, but other than that, there doesn't seem to be much going on at the moment, which is a weird feeling for NXT. It probably doesn't help that Wrestlemania and a Raw where a lot of major stuff went down just happened, making an NXT placeholder show stick out even more, which is a weird reversal of the usual dichotomy between the main roster and Raw. Or maybe CJ Parker was the glue that held this show together. |
It's also the time when NXT guys and gals head to the main roster so the creative team is probably waiting for the calls to happen?
I thought the crowd was a bit dead this week. I figure they must have been burnt out at the tapings.
Emma is amazing. |
The heel turn with her seems like it is progressing quite realistically. It's going to be heart-wrenching, since her gimmick was so endearing as a face; but I guess this is the best thing for her. I got used to her with the belly-button piercing, so it's odd seeing her without it for some reason.
I like that they've shortened the commentary team down to just Brennan and Graves now. I would like for Jason Albert to make some occasional appearances, and now that he's head trainer, he can speak with even more credibility, but I think some of the guys should get practice in the two-man format. I want to see Graves work with Renee Young though. I know she's color, but I want her to have a shot at being lead. Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan's stuff seems a bit rushed. I'd have liked a few more promos and a bit of extra build to their match. I know it's not meant to be a major program, but I think both guys could have come out of it with extra shine. |
I love clinically depressed Emma
Her motivation for turning heel is pretty sound, when you think about it.
So, this Dana Brookes looks interesting. What's the story with her?
Also, just caught a glimpse of The Vaudevillains in an NXT promo package. Remember those guys? |
Really rough couple of weeks for NXT.
Last week's filler show was just kind of average, and this week they go with a tournament that you already know the result of if you saw Wrestlemania. The matches were good, but I don't know if they were particularly mindblowing. That's probably in no small part due to the result not being in doubt. The Hideo's Journey to Wrestlemania was pretty good, but that could have just as easily been a Network special. His English seems to be getting quite a bit better too, which should help him a ton. It's just kind of awkward seeing them hype up NXT's momentum the past two weeks, but then put out mediocre shows. Have they already taped the next shows? I haven't been keeping track of spoilers, so I don't know if I should have hope for them to get back on the track in the coming weeks, or if we're in a downturn phase. |
I guess I should clarify that "rough couple of weeks" is really "slightly better matches than your average Raw."
Next set of tapings isn't until either the 23rd or 30th this month.
The biggest problems with this set was Mania making them rush the tapings to cover 2 months worth and showing those tapings (and matches) out of order. Quote:
They should have aired the axxess show live
Quote:
If we've got two or three more weeks of pre-taped shows, this might be rough. I dug up spoilers for the last taping. I see maybe one more week of shows, unless I'm improperly recalling that one of these shows already aired. It looks like there's one they overwrote with the Arnold Classic show, but they could probably air it anyway. Looks like some decent matches and a little bit of story advancement with people that matter--compared to the few weeks especially. I'm hoping this is a one-off thing and they learn from this and don't bumble into this next Mania season. |
I blame WWE creative for dropping the ball on Emma, which further points to the fact that the divas need to let their personality come out. They just slapped Emma with a bad dancing gimmick on WWE and put her in a comedy shtick with Santino. They should have given her mic time to further develop her gimmick and stuck her in some feud on Smackdown. Her and Cameron should have a vicious rivalry over the fact that Emma playfully said that Naomi was the better dancer and Emma would have been a better Funkadatyl. Revive the Paige Emma feud.
Shoot, did WWE really watch her in the indies? Moreover, why did they let Mia Yim go to TNA? |
Let's bring this thread back to the front page!
Nice ending to the women's triple threat and a solid match. Lots of filler in this episode again, with Jobber vs. Dude-with-wins left and right.Owens/Riley was a lot less engaging than the one they aired first from the Arnold Classic, which was really their second match. I think this one was really relying on Alex Riley having his first tough match in ages and the crowd being invested in that--but that doesn't work so well when he's already fought and lost to Kevin Owens again. That's really been the problem the last few weeks. The episodes have been shuffled around, and "specials" have been shunted in, so the subtle flow from episode to episode was majorly disrupted. I will say, though, that it's quite the accomplishment that they've been able to do that without too many glaring problems. Hopefully with a new round of tapings and Mania out of the way and some people called up now, they'll be able to get back to what we're used to. |

Kevin Owens is fucking great. I like how "real" he comes across. No frills. Just "I'm gonna beat your ass because I have a family to feed, plus you suck". Simple, yet effective.
He definitely "gets it" and can generate some good heat :)
Best up and coming heel for sure. Can't see him as a face really. |
No, he should never be a face.

They need to have NXT run a men and women's match at least once a month get some of these stars seen by the general audience. |
I think Carmella will be better with Blake and Murphy, too...assuming that's what's going to happen.
Whatever..... she is just too SAWFT to hang.
Yeah Kevin Owens is maybe my favourite guy on the mic right now, I really like his pragmatic heel character.

Well they don't really try simple and straight forward often. So, if they did it might work.
Spoilers for the next set of tapings. Just 3 weeks were taped since the next special is happening on May 20th.
SPOILER: show |
SPOILER: show Sounds like a healthy number of throwaway matches with new girls, but, even with that in mind, it sounds like there's some progression and flow again. Sounds like we'll have a few decent matches at the special. IT'S MORNING IN NXT AGAIN~! |
I like that Becky Lynch is the #1 Contender. I really like her look, and she seems cool, but she just hasn't had the "click" moment with her character yet. A proper run at The Boss might help with that.
I'm still feeling the Carmella turn on Enzo & Cass. I hope Blake & Murphy make great dickbag heels. I'm not sure where exactly they go with Alex Riley now. I wouldn't mind seeing him end up in a program with Bull Dempsey, to be honest. Dempsey wants to get back to his winning ways, so he targets a "loser," and Riley has to Rage his way back into the winning column. |
Getting all ready for the pre sale at 10 and I realized the tower theatre really is a theartre.
http://livenationpremiumseats.com/im.../400/image.jpg Never been to a wrestling show in a theatre before. Going to be strange |
Vaudevillians should have a field day
I did not get tickets and I'm not happy

Actually I lucked out in that the regular site seems fucked but the mobile site put me through no problem and I got 6th row ringside center for $95 total.

Thank you for a Becky Lynch hype video
Really wish Dana Brooke would stop doing overly elaborate, overly choreographed poses and mannerisms for like 15 minutes straight.
It looks like she's a third base coach in a Major League movie. |
It looks like she's trying out for a Divinyls music video
They added a 2nd show in Philly on friday, so essentially they sold over 6,000 tickets

That is very cool. Balor "gets it".
That Cole/Owens segment was the shit. Owens is a star.
Owens is growing on me. I wish they'd have the commentators point out how intelligent he clearly is, and that his "I'm doing this for my family" stuff is clearly a mental excuse he makes for himself, as he's really doing this for himself and his own desire to be the king.
Basically Walter White from Breaking Bad. |
I hope they actually give the #1 Contender spot to Tyler Breeze. Balor getting another shot wouldn't be the worst, and Itami getting the shot seems most likely, but Breeze getting it would be a heel vs. heel feud with an interesting enough dynamic that people could actually really latch onto it. Breeze calling Owens and his kids "uggos?" That would be an interest-builder.
Quote:
I dunno -- I think Breeze's gimmick is one of the easiest to "plug in." It's simple, Vince and Kevin could get behind it, and he's enjoyable enough both in the ring and out that he could be featured very consistently. Plus, he doesn't even need to win a lot. His gimmick can basically take a loss and be like "I had a hang-nail that day" and then beat someone the next week and it's all good.

Night 1 got HHH and Mick Foley Suck it night 2 |
Just finished catching up with like 2 months+ of NXT over the past few days.
Now ready for TAKEOVER. |
Woo, home from work just in time. Or am I? I thought this started now, but they are still in the pre-show.... maybe it is just this stream....
Oh wait, there is a countdown.... one minute....
Looking good Renee...
There should be a thread
Yuuuup, not opening that can of worms.
Looks like a pretty good lineup. Two diva story lines that don't involve the championship.... What a novel concept.
Not reading the spoilers. I enjoy NXT too much.
They're actually building to a Dana Brooke vs. Devin Taylor feud quite subtly if you're paying attention. I'm not sure how good a worker she is, but given how great NXT has been at churning out female talent, I don't think she'll be abysmal by the time they decide to pull that trigger.
I actually don't know how Zack Ryder hasn't ended up in NXT yet. They clearly don't have any plans on pushing him, and the Full Sail crowd would be right into him as he evolved, developed, got time to improve in the ring and on the mic. He and Alex Riley would actually make sense as a heel team, with Emma in their corner.
Quote:
True, but I never got into the Internet Championship thing. I don't know why. I just feel like it was kind of "Look at me, I've got a belt." You could have done stuff with it, but if you were already doing stuff with Ryder, then having the belt would have been moot. I feel it was more a symptom of him not going anywhere than anything else.
Think it was because of no one else being as big on internet and social media platforms than he was at the time. The title itself was more of a gag for his show as if he couldn't get the US or any other title, he was going to claim being WWE's internet champion.
WWE's Youtube channel was older but more of just a place for them to upload some clips while others had lots more followers on social media mainly because of their status. Wasn't until after Z! True Long Island Story took off and Ryder using social media to his benefit that the WWE started to really invest in Youtube shows and social media in general. |
Quote:
See, that's basically the NXT Title isn't it? He should just go after that.
It'd be like the WCW TV Title defended on the network only and 10 minute time limits.
It's a solid idea, don't me wrong; but I'm just not entirely behind it. Just a subjective taste thing. If NXT ever did introduce another title (which I really don't think it needs), I'd rather it be like the old FCW 15 Title.
