Found myself really annoyed that they spoiled the Riley/Parker match and post-match promo with Owens by showing it the promo package for the Ohio show. Riley winning was a shoo-in but it really bugs me when they spoil their own stuff.

Same thing happened with TNA this week; caught part of one of their One Night Only specials that ruined the outcome of a big match yet to be shown on TV.

Got MSG-like vibes from the setup used this week. Tron being in the background and main camera coming from the usual announcers side on RAW/Smackdown.

Seemed like the WWE gave up on trying to salvage Parker's gimmick or role once he got promoted as top jobber.

Wonder if Bull Dempsey becomes the main jobber to the stars now. Been in that sort of role since the Corbin feud.

Mr. Nerfect 03-31-2015 09:57 PM

CJ Parker was actually fairly good. In the ring he had some ways to go, but he was a natural talker. He was a great fit for the WWE's style. He reminded me a lot of The Miz. I was hoping to see a stable of entitled millenials pop up in coming weeks. CJ Parker, Brad Maddox and Zack Ryder all helping each other out would have been pretty cool.

TNA jokes aside, he seems like the sort of guy that Derrick Bateman was -- in that there is a tremendous amount of personality there that TNA can bring out. I'd add him to Ethan Carter III's entourage.

Dark One 04-02-2015 01:22 AM

Didn't really feel this week's episode, which is a first in a long while.

Everything was okay. Nothing was actively bad. It was just all kind of there. Sami Zayn came back, after basically being murdered and then totally okay to go on the Middle East tour and then mostly forgotten about until tonight with a pretty average promo and no real interaction with Kevin Owens. Okay.

Lucha Dragons vs. Blake/Murphy was better than their live special match, but it looks pretty much just like a way to get a little more rub from the Dragons before they graduate to the main roster. No real story, just mentions on commentayr about the Carmella thing.

Emma and Bayley at least have a story, but it's not a very engaging one and didn't advance much.

Jason Jordan and Tye Dillenger's match was picking up a story from what feels like two months ago that no one really had a reason to care about. Probably would have helped to have it more immediately after Jordan walking out on Dillenger, but I guess that's what you get with taping four shows at a time and only having an hour of TV. The guy that walked out won, that was it, so I'm assuming this generally gets forgotten and Jason Jordan beats up nobodies for several weeks now.

Breeze / Itami was good, but again, just kind of there. They're having a main show sort of feud where one guy wins, then the other, then they fight some more because that qualifies as a feud.

Usually NXT is really good at having progression and stories for the matches, with a couple of random tossed together quick matches peppered in each week. This week really felt just like clearing up loose ends that weren't really that important and putting random stuff out there. Even after a special, there's usually at least one or two threads going on to make something on the show have weight. A lot of stuff has closed up over the past couple of weeks, and nothing else has really started up to take it's place.

Hopefully they can get some momentum back for the Owens/Zayn thing, but other than that, there doesn't seem to be much going on at the moment, which is a weird feeling for NXT. It probably doesn't help that Wrestlemania and a Raw where a lot of major stuff went down just happened, making an NXT placeholder show stick out even more, which is a weird reversal of the usual dichotomy between the main roster and Raw.

Or maybe CJ Parker was the glue that held this show together.

VSG 04-02-2015 09:41 AM

It's also the time when NXT guys and gals head to the main roster so the creative team is probably waiting for the calls to happen?

Mr. Nerfect 04-02-2015 05:45 PM

I thought the crowd was a bit dead this week. I figure they must have been burnt out at the tapings.

Emma is amazing.

Mr. Nerfect 04-03-2015 11:40 AM

The heel turn with her seems like it is progressing quite realistically. It's going to be heart-wrenching, since her gimmick was so endearing as a face; but I guess this is the best thing for her. I got used to her with the belly-button piercing, so it's odd seeing her without it for some reason.

I like that they've shortened the commentary team down to just Brennan and Graves now. I would like for Jason Albert to make some occasional appearances, and now that he's head trainer, he can speak with even more credibility, but I think some of the guys should get practice in the two-man format. I want to see Graves work with Renee Young though. I know she's color, but I want her to have a shot at being lead.

Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan's stuff seems a bit rushed. I'd have liked a few more promos and a bit of extra build to their match. I know it's not meant to be a major program, but I think both guys could have come out of it with extra shine.

Innovator 04-03-2015 11:41 AM

I love clinically depressed Emma

Mr. Nerfect 04-03-2015 11:55 AM

Her motivation for turning heel is pretty sound, when you think about it.

XL 04-09-2015 07:57 PM

So, this Dana Brookes looks interesting. What's the story with her?

Also, just caught a glimpse of The Vaudevillains in an NXT promo package. Remember those guys?

Dark One 04-09-2015 09:26 PM

Really rough couple of weeks for NXT.

Last week's filler show was just kind of average, and this week they go with a tournament that you already know the result of if you saw Wrestlemania.

The matches were good, but I don't know if they were particularly mindblowing. That's probably in no small part due to the result not being in doubt.

The Hideo's Journey to Wrestlemania was pretty good, but that could have just as easily been a Network special. His English seems to be getting quite a bit better too, which should help him a ton.

It's just kind of awkward seeing them hype up NXT's momentum the past two weeks, but then put out mediocre shows.

Have they already taped the next shows? I haven't been keeping track of spoilers, so I don't know if I should have hope for them to get back on the track in the coming weeks, or if we're in a downturn phase.

Dark One 04-09-2015 09:27 PM

I guess I should clarify that "rough couple of weeks" is really "slightly better matches than your average Raw."

Emperor Smeat 04-09-2015 11:03 PM

Next set of tapings isn't until either the 23rd or 30th this month.

The biggest problems with this set was Mania making them rush the tapings to cover 2 months worth and showing those tapings (and matches) out of order.

Former body builder that got hired last year I think by Triple H or whoever handles the NXT Women signings. Don't think she has any wrestling experience but not necessarily a bad thing considering the quality of trainers at NXT.

Indeeeeeed.

If we've got two or three more weeks of pre-taped shows, this might be rough. I dug up spoilers for the last taping. I see maybe one more week of shows, unless I'm improperly recalling that one of these shows already aired. It looks like there's one they overwrote with the Arnold Classic show, but they could probably air it anyway.

Looks like some decent matches and a little bit of story advancement with people that matter--compared to the few weeks especially.

I'm hoping this is a one-off thing and they learn from this and don't bumble into this next Mania season.

Dukelorange 04-10-2015 10:26 AM

I blame WWE creative for dropping the ball on Emma, which further points to the fact that the divas need to let their personality come out. They just slapped Emma with a bad dancing gimmick on WWE and put her in a comedy shtick with Santino. They should have given her mic time to further develop her gimmick and stuck her in some feud on Smackdown. Her and Cameron should have a vicious rivalry over the fact that Emma playfully said that Naomi was the better dancer and Emma would have been a better Funkadatyl. Revive the Paige Emma feud.

Shoot, did WWE really watch her in the indies?

Moreover, why did they let Mia Yim go to TNA?

Dark One 04-22-2015 11:37 PM

Let's bring this thread back to the front page!

Nice ending to the women's triple threat and a solid match. Lots of filler in this episode again, with Jobber vs. Dude-with-wins left and right.Owens/Riley was a lot less engaging than the one they aired first from the Arnold Classic, which was really their second match. I think this one was really relying on Alex Riley having his first tough match in ages and the crowd being invested in that--but that doesn't work so well when he's already fought and lost to Kevin Owens again.

That's really been the problem the last few weeks. The episodes have been shuffled around, and "specials" have been shunted in, so the subtle flow from episode to episode was majorly disrupted. I will say, though, that it's quite the accomplishment that they've been able to do that without too many glaring problems.

Hopefully with a new round of tapings and Mania out of the way and some people called up now, they'll be able to get back to what we're used to.

I agree. He's a different kind of heel. I can't put my finger on it. It's a nice cocktail of great heels. Kurt Angle, Roddy Piper, Stone Cold, Triple H... We'll played. I hope it translates over to the main roster.

They need to have NXT run a men and women's match at least once a month get some of these stars seen by the general audience.

Anybody Thrilla 04-23-2015 03:02 PM

Spoilers for the next set of tapings. Just 3 weeks were taped since the next special is happening on May 20th.

SPOILER: show
Quote:

April 29th Episode:

* NXT Champion Kevin Owens kicks off the show with a promo. General Manager William Regal interrupts and says Owens doesn't run the show, Mr. Regal does. Sami Zayn comes out and we've got a match for the May 20th Takeover event. Owens wants it to be non-title but Sami is berating him trying to get the title shot. They agree and it will be a title match.

* Enzo Amore and Big Cass defeated NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy in a non-title match.

* Dana Brooke defeated Bayley when Emma came out to Bayley's music and distracted her.

* Adam Rose vs. Hideo Itami is next. Itami wins by pinfall.

* Becky Lynch quickly defeated an enhancement talent named Sarah Thompson by submission. This appeared to be one of the new recruits.

* Sami Zayn defeated Alex Riley by DQ when Kevin Owens hit him from behind. Owens then hit a powerbomb on Riley.
Quote:

May 6th Episode:

* Charlotte defeated Emma by pinfall. Emma worked as a vicious heel. Bayley came out after the match and offered Emma a hug but held onto her and hit the Hugplex. Charlotte tried to hold Bayley back but she snapped and has had enough of Emma's taunting.

* Rhyno defeated Bull Dempsey with a Gore. Rhyno cut a promo after the match and said he wants Baron Corbin at Takeover.

* Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder come out for a match against Enzo and Cass but they don't show. The cameras cut backstage and they were laid out by Blake and Murphy.

* William Regal is out for a Takeover contract signing segment between Becky Lynch and NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks. Becky tells her career story and Sasha uses her stamp to sign the contract. Sasha then attacks Becky but Becky gets the upperhand before referees break it up.

* Finn Balor comes out in a suit to do commentary for the next match, Hideo Itami vs. Tyler Breeze. Itami gets the win with a Shotgun kick. After the match, Breeze jumps Itami but Balor makes the save. Breeze then takes them both out with a superkick on Balor and a Beauty Shot to Itami.
Quote:

May 13th Episode:

* Bayley defeated Jessi McKay with a Hugplex. Jessi was one of the talents just announced as a new recruit this month.

* Solomon Crowe vs. Baron Corbin is next. Crowe has a new theme song. Corbin wins by pinfall and Rhyno comes out after the match. They start brawling and security tries to hold them back. Rhyno hits Gores on a few security guards and the rest run away.

* Sasha Banks defeated another debuting enhancement talent by submission, possibly new recruit Cassie McIntosh.

* Alexa Bliss defeated Carmella after Blake and Murphy distracted Carmella by trying to get her attention. They try to pick her up but she cuts a promo on them and says Enzo and Cass will take the titles at Takeover.

* Kalisto defeated Tye Dillinger by pinfall.

* Sami Zayn comes out for a promo but before he can speak out comes Kevin Owens. Sami cuts him down and asks why is he jealous and asks if it's because Owens' son would rather wear a Sami t-shirt than a KO t-shirt. Owens says he knows Sami is hurt and at Takeover, he's going to hurt him again but this time Sami won't be able to come back.

* Finn Balor and Hideo Itami vs. Adam Rose and Tyler Breeze is next. Breeze gets the pin on Itami. Balor and Hideo weren't on the same page. Tyler kicks Rose post-match. It appears they were building to a three-way.

Dark One 04-24-2015 12:13 AM

BREEZE-A-MANIA IS RUNNIN' WILD

Sounds like a healthy number of throwaway matches with new girls, but, even with that in mind, it sounds like there's some progression and flow again. Sounds like we'll have a few decent matches at the special.

IT'S MORNING IN NXT AGAIN~!

Mr. Nerfect 04-28-2015 07:33 AM

I like that Becky Lynch is the #1 Contender. I really like her look, and she seems cool, but she just hasn't had the "click" moment with her character yet. A proper run at The Boss might help with that.

I'm still feeling the Carmella turn on Enzo & Cass. I hope Blake & Murphy make great dickbag heels.

I'm not sure where exactly they go with Alex Riley now. I wouldn't mind seeing him end up in a program with Bull Dempsey, to be honest. Dempsey wants to get back to his winning ways, so he targets a "loser," and Riley has to Rage his way back into the winning column.

That Cole/Owens segment was the shit. Owens is a star.

Mr. Nerfect 05-14-2015 07:26 PM

Owens is growing on me. I wish they'd have the commentators point out how intelligent he clearly is, and that his "I'm doing this for my family" stuff is clearly a mental excuse he makes for himself, as he's really doing this for himself and his own desire to be the king.

Basically Walter White from Breaking Bad.

Mr. Nerfect 05-14-2015 07:27 PM

I hope they actually give the #1 Contender spot to Tyler Breeze. Balor getting another shot wouldn't be the worst, and Itami getting the shot seems most likely, but Breeze getting it would be a heel vs. heel feud with an interesting enough dynamic that people could actually really latch onto it. Breeze calling Owens and his kids "uggos?" That would be an interest-builder.

Sadly, as much as I dig Tyler Breeze and his new theme song and gimmick, he will not be used properly when he gets called to the main roster. Creative won't have anything good enough for him to really shine. Heck, do they really have any story lines that fit the characters in WWE outside of the US Title open challenge and the New Day?

Mr. Nerfect 05-15-2015 10:37 AM

I dunno -- I think Breeze's gimmick is one of the easiest to "plug in." It's simple, Vince and Kevin could get behind it, and he's enjoyable enough both in the ring and out that he could be featured very consistently. Plus, he doesn't even need to win a lot. His gimmick can basically take a loss and be like "I had a hang-nail that day" and then beat someone the next week and it's all good.

SPOILERS for the next four weeks.

SPOILER: show
WWE is taping several weeks worth of NXT television tonight at Full Sail University. Continue to update the following pages for continued coverage throughout the night.

WWE NXT: Episode #1

-NXT Champion Kevin Owens kicks off the show, only he comes out to Sami Zayn’s music. He brags about finishing off Zayn, and doing the same thing to Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, John Cena and anyone else who gets in his way. GM William Regal comes out and the two have a pretty heated exchange. Solomon Crowe is out next, to give Regal somebody to book against Owens.

(1) Emma def. Bayley.

-Dana Brooke came out and attacked Bayley. Charlotte ran out for the same, but Brooke and Emma got the better of the babyfaces.

(2) Blake & Murphy def. Elias Samson & Mike Rallis. This was a non-title match. Alexa Bliss is out with the champions, following her alignment at NXT Takeover.

(3) Finn Balor def. Tye Dillinger.

(4) Kevin Owens def. Solomon Crowe. This was a huge one-sided slaughter. Pretty much a short version of what Owens did to Sami in their first match. After the bell he teased a powerbomb on the apron, but Samoa Joe is out to a massive pop. Joe backs down the champion, who once again bails up the ramp. This should end the first taping.

WWE NXT: Episode #2

(1) Tyler Breeze def. Adam Rose.

-Total Divas star Eva Marie makes an appearance. As expected, the crowd did not welcome her with open arms, and it’s unclear exactly what she said because of how loud the boos and chants were. It seems the next step in WWE focusing on her in-ring training is to run her through NXT, so expect to see more of her. Owen White comes out to a massive pop to invite Eva Marie onto the next White House on Smackdown, drawing some boos; however, before Eva can respond, Owen is ambushed by Siguente Rampo Jr., reportedly the cousin of Smackdowno Del Rampa Jr., and has to be carted out of Full Sail.

(2) Alexa Bliss def. Carmella. All four of the guys were out there with them. Needless to say they’re not happy with each other.

(3) The Vaudevillians def. Marcus Louis & Jason Jordan.

(4) Finn Balor def. Rhyno.

-To close out the episode, Rhyno hit Balor with a huge Gore on the entrance ramp as he was celebrating.

WWE NXT: Episode #3

(1) Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley def. Elias Samson & Mike Rallis.

(2) Emma def. Blue Pants. The crowd gave ole’ Blue a great reaction for her NXT return.

(3) Tyler Breeze def. Bull Dempsey.

(4) Samoa Joe def. Scott Dawson. Joe picked up the win with his long-time finisher, the Muscle Buster.

-Kevin Owens, who was on commentary for the main event, got into it on the mic with Samoa Joe. He called the TNA and Ring of Honor veteran an “NXT rookie”. William Regal came out and booked the match – Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Owens, non-title, for next week’s show.

WWE NXT: Episode #4

(1) Enzo Amore, Big Cass & Carmella def. Wesley Blake, Buddy Murphy & Alexa Bliss.

(2) The Vaudevillians def. Jason Jordan and an unknown worker. This seemed to be a debut for the new guy, who got injured a few minutes into the back. It looked legit, as they had to stop the match, and eventually the trainers took him to the back. Poor guy.

(3) Charlotte def. a developmental Diva. We didn’t get a name on her.

(4) Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Owens ended in a “no contest” when the referee went down and the match turned into a giant brawl. Referees and people from the back rushed the ring and tried to break them up. A couple of them went down in the process. Joe called Owens a bitch and they brawled again. The show ended with the champion on the ramp and Joe getting cheered in the ring. Just awesome.

Yuuuup, not opening that can of worms.

Dukelorange 05-22-2015 09:04 AM

Looks like a pretty good lineup. Two diva story lines that don't involve the championship.... What a novel concept.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 09:43 PM

Not reading the spoilers. I enjoy NXT too much.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 09:45 PM

They're actually building to a Dana Brooke vs. Devin Taylor feud quite subtly if you're paying attention. I'm not sure how good a worker she is, but given how great NXT has been at churning out female talent, I don't think she'll be abysmal by the time they decide to pull that trigger.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 10:22 PM

I actually don't know how Zack Ryder hasn't ended up in NXT yet. They clearly don't have any plans on pushing him, and the Full Sail crowd would be right into him as he evolved, developed, got time to improve in the ring and on the mic. He and Alex Riley would actually make sense as a heel team, with Emma in their corner.

It would play in well with his self appointed internet championship thing he had going as well.

Mr. Nerfect 05-22-2015 10:44 PM

True, but I never got into the Internet Championship thing. I don't know why. I just feel like it was kind of "Look at me, I've got a belt." You could have done stuff with it, but if you were already doing stuff with Ryder, then having the belt would have been moot. I feel it was more a symptom of him not going anywhere than anything else.

Emperor Smeat 05-22-2015 11:52 PM

Think it was because of no one else being as big on internet and social media platforms than he was at the time. The title itself was more of a gag for his show as if he couldn't get the US or any other title, he was going to claim being WWE's internet champion.

WWE's Youtube channel was older but more of just a place for them to upload some clips while others had lots more followers on social media mainly because of their status. Wasn't until after Z! True Long Island Story took off and Ryder using social media to his benefit that the WWE started to really invest in Youtube shows and social media in general.

He could be the WWE Network Champion

Mr. Nerfect 05-23-2015 12:19 AM

See, that's basically the NXT Title isn't it? He should just go after that.

Droford 05-23-2015 12:25 AM

It'd be like the WCW TV Title defended on the network only and 10 minute time limits.

Mr. Nerfect 05-24-2015 12:23 AM

It's a solid idea, don't me wrong; but I'm just not entirely behind it. Just a subjective taste thing. If NXT ever did introduce another title (which I really don't think it needs), I'd rather it be like the old FCW 15 Title.
