This update was in the oven for a while. Not sure if I will play it, though.
And BTW, how many FPS games are out there? |
Mirrors Edge 2 isn't canceled according to Sent U A Message on the UK 360 dashboard. According to them, EA have said it's just "On Hold". So we could see it eventually.
|
Just specced up my new gaming PC for April. Building it myself, highlights are core-i5 760, 16gb RAM, 2 (two) 1gb GTX 560 TI's in SLI and a stereoscopic 3D monitor. Can't wait.
|
You are getting a new 360 at some point, yeah? Who am I supposed to play Street Fighter with at 6am?

Anyway, I feel like since Street Fighter 4 reinvigorated the fighting game market, we've seen more fighters coming out, which is good, but now it's starting to reach the oversaturation of the 90's. |
I don't agree that that's why fighting games died for a bit. 2D fighters died because the community became exclusive, not too mention the death of arcades in general. 3D fighters flourished on consoles because they made bigger strides for features and accessibility. So DoA, Tekkens, SoulCaliburs, and such went on for successful console releases. KoF never really stopped releasing games on console, but KoF was always a niche game (to this day). Capcom just didn't give a shit about making SF, Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, anything for a good while. They had to have their arm twisted to even make SF4, and a small project in TvC motivated them for MvC3.
Many new fighting games are due to 1) Capcom getting their balls back and making waves with SF4, and 2) Many smaller devs bringing their projects to the limelight (indy development is going on in all genres anyway). We were going to see a new Tekken, Virtua Fighter, KoF, and SoulCalibur regardless of what Capcom was doing. They never stopped. And the digital platforms, XBLA and PSN made porting older fighters easy. And it's great that new fighters are making it on as well, with Arcana Heart 3 coming to PSN. That's not oversaturation, it's just healthy. I mentioned shooters because if anything that's an overblown market, and nobody seems to give a shit. Some companies feel like they need to have a shooter just because. It's not like these companies are releasing fighting games to meet fiscal quotas (in many cases projections are always kept low). Personally I don't there's enough fighting games from enough people. I wanna see new IPs from new studios. It's something I watch with vested interest. SO I MIGHT BE BIASED |

Looking to upgrade mine sometime. |

I am going overkill on it though, you Woild save £300 by only having 1 GFX card and 8gb RAM and another £300 by not taking the 3D monitor and glasses. It would still be a beast too. |
As an SLI user, it is usually not even worth it. Tons of games don't even support it.
|
You Don't Know Jack is really awesome. It's almost a good filler for 1 vs 100. Too bad nobody here will have it for the PS3.

Back to the Future downloadable game on PS3 is pretty cool.

Fighting genre isn't over saturated. If anything, it's quite the niche market. The games coming out these days are pretty different from each other and tend to have "easy to learn/hard to master" complex systems to them.
The 90s went overboard. Street Fighter spawned 34786234764685 clones and that was fine. Some of them were damn good. The 3D era had a lot of cool ideas with kinda crappy execution, but there were also gems in there. Plus there were a lot of original ideas. I'd love to see Fighter Maker on this gen of consoles. Keep the graphics at slightly better than PS2 level and you should have plenty of processing power to develop a full blown custom fighting engine. Plus they could do it Rock Band Network style and have the best creations get upped, voted on and sold to everyone at maybe $5 - $10 a pop. |
Funky, I was arguing that the fighting genre is or isn't. I was simply stating that just because fps might be (also not arguing if it is or isn't), that doesn't justify the fighting game genre doing as such, if it is.
|
I'm just saying I wanna see Fighter Maker now.

According to the Scott Pilgrim series creator, Scott Pilgrim vs the World could have been a completely different game had Ubisoft accepted Telltale Games idea for creating the game.
Telltale Games wanted something similar to the books by making the game more into an adventure game although it wasn't mentioned if the game would be episodic in content like the recent games from the studio. Ubisoft rejected that idea and the request from Telltale Games to develop the game since they wanted the game to be more of a beat-em-up with homages to certain games of the past. Ubisoft also pushed for the 16-bit style feel to the graphics but also ended up not including online multiplayer when the game was initially released. http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/as...m_telltale.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5766446/the-scot...-big-adventure -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time to celebrate as Legend of Zelda celebrates its 25th year anniversary today in Japan (US/Canada didn't get the game until August 22, 1987). Zelda was originally released on the Famicom Disk System and later ported to the NES for global release. Not counting the packed-in games with the NES, when Zelda's NES gold cart was released, it became the very 1st million seller for the system. |

So, are any good games coming out soon?
|
Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 are the "hot new titles" releasing tomorrow.
|
I have seen this bullet storm. I don't care. God... I wish I could stop worrying and just enjoy more games. But I am so fucking picky.
|
hmmmmm Might pick up killzone rather than mvc 3. Or 20 chalupas.
Leaning towards 20 chalupas. |
Or 60 Beefy Crunch Burritos
|
Might get a bunch of sushi to go. Eat half, keep the rest in the fridge for tomorrow.
|
Ewww. Does fish keep all that well?
|
Yeah, I mean it's probably not a good idea to save it for a week, but I have eaten sushi that was saved from the day before on many occasions. Doesn't taste any different, and doesn't make me sick at all, so there ya go.
|
Maybe if you saved cooked fish, but sushi is raw to begin with, so no harm done, as long as you keep it refridgerated
|
Yeah, I was kinda thinking thT as I posted it but i only like tuna and shellfish. So I was thinking of cooked sushi.
|
Well I've also saved tempura, and that was fine too.
Again, this is like the day after, and it's been kept refridgerated, so I'm not endorsing everyone to go out and save some sushi for the summer. |
Dragon Age 2 demo is up on XBL Marketplace.
|
Yeah, DLed that unit, but had to leave before I could play it. Going home with MvC3 today, so I doubt I'll get around to it soon.
|
That Hard Corps game takes forever to download. Do downloads not continue during Netflix anymore?
|
I don't remember if they ever did. I always thought using anything involving an online connection disturbs the download.
Also, I played the demo of HC and fucking loved it. If there is even a small part of you that enjoys contra, you need to get this. |
UUUUGGGGHHHHHH
|
Def getting that DA2 demooooooooooo. All you fuckers need to go get it.
|
DA2 demo is amazing
|
I hope there is a PS3 version of the demo on Thursday, I want a sneak peak at the epicness.

Rumored prices for the NGP 2 models range anywhere between $250-$280 for the Standard Model (no 3G or extra features) and $280-$350 for the 3G Model.
The 3G model does require a subscription which will make it even more expensive once all the costs are added. If true then Sony will be loosing a lot more money than when they released the PSP based on the specs for the NGP. It also gives them room to phase out the cheaper model in the future if sales are low or a better model comes out. http://www.pspgweber.com/822/next-ge...del-price.html ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3DS release now at 4 days away for Japan and pre-orders in the UK/Europe have it as the #1 all-time pre-ordered system for both handhelds and console records. Original plans were to release the system in June but leaks forced Nintendo to push the US and European launches 2 months earlier. It is also why Nintendo proclaims the launch window being 3 months long instead of the traditional 2 weeks to 1 month long. |
I wouldn't spend $300+ on any handheld. No way in hell.
Will the non-3G model be able to go online? |
Uprising is fucking incredible.
|
Dragon Age 2 is going to be amazing, but no surprise there.
|
lol Fucking Hell, Sony is just ridiculous with their hardware this generation. $300 plus subscription for a handheld? I put that down for the 360 because I know the online is worth it and there will be tons of support from developers as far as games and patches. PSP was the crappy port platform for the longest time.
Also, when are they gonna start rolling out the racist commercials for this one? |
I miss that little nigga Marcus.
|
Quote:
Its similar to when the PS2 would allow both 56k and broadband for online but games later were designed more for broadband speeds (Xbox only allowed broadband and Gamecube allowed both on the rare occasion it had). |
Yep, Dragon Age 2 demo was awesome. I haven't even beat Origins.
|
Fortress Craft coming to Xbox live indie...
Just a huge minecraft clone lol |
Shamelessness aside, why not port the real thing over? Does the developer have a stance either way? Are they owned by a publisher?
|
Quote:
They're woking on an iOS version now, where the real cash cow is. |

|
I know, as you can see by my post 6 hours later.
|
All you said is it's going to be amazing. You didn't say you had the demo. :p
|
I guess getting Gamefly again was a mistake. I have 17 games on my Q and none of them were shipped. Even a couple that said high availability.
|
Yeah they're def slacking again. Sometimes they're all over it, and sometimes they don't seem to care
|
So I went through and put 45 fucking games on my Q. If none of those are shipped by tomorrow I'm canceling.
|
LOL I checked Blockbuster online and they have a fucking THREE MONTH WAIT on all new release games by mail. :n:

In an interview with Famitsu, the development team behind the Nintendo 3DS gives some info on how the development process to the 3DS occurred over time.
The original plan was for the DS successor to have 2 screens since backwards compatibility was their main goal and then start to add new features. Around 2008, the team decided to test out 3D to see how it would look on a screen with the goal being glasses-less 3D. They did this by hooking a 3D tv to a Wii and used Mario Kart Wii. Everyone liked it soo much that it was implemented in the 3DS. Late into the planning and development, Miyamoto requested gyrosensors as a way to add a new type of gameplay for games not 3D-dependent. He wanted some form of motion controls on a handheld ever since the Wii was released and as another new type of gameplay. The gyrosensor ended up becoming a backup plan for games not 3D-dependent but wanted to stand out in the 3DS library. http://cache.gawker.com/assets/image.../02/3ds_03.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5768054/3d-wasnt...ed-for-the-3ds ---------------------------------- Microsoft announces Gears of War 3 release date pushed back from a March/April 2011 date to now September 20 and as a global release. The delay was not due to development problems but a marketing decision by Microsoft and also gives Epic Games more time to have the beta trial for the game. |
Oh my fucking god, stage 3 in Uprising.
Fuck's sake. |
Kotaku has a new gameplay preview on the upcoming Dexus Ex Revolution game and this time there was less on-rails or set piece battles.
Not every character in the game has the same implants or even any implants that Jensen has. Some characters actually will dislike the character due to having the implants from conversations. Looks like the factory stage has a timed hostage rescue mission based on the preview build which means not much exploration allowed until after freeing the hostages. The hostages are not the real goal but a side mission in the factory level. Also shown are decisions given to the player which can impact the gameplay since a stealth decision will give players non-lethal or silenced weapons while other choices provide different routes and weapons. Upgrades and inventory stuff are done by the use of experience trees (pay for better stats) and Resident Evil 4 style inventory system for holding everything you want (limited grid/slot system). It also appears that levels have many different ways to complete to add to replay ability since there are multiple routes, tactics, and choices possible at certain parts of a level. http://cache.gawker.com/assets/image...volution_2.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5769270/hands+on...man-revolution |
Age of Empires Online switches developers about mid-way in development.
According to Microsoft, the actual plan involved the developers switching since the original studio, Robot Entertainment, was only meant to do the initial structure/foundation and give them some experience before handing the project to Gas Powered Games to create the actual content and gameplay. Nothing huge is expected to change with the game from the switch while Robot Entertainment is set to work on a new and original IP for Microsoft. Robot Entertainment is the studio Microsoft created using the remaining employees from Ensemble Studios after that studio was dissolved. http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/as..._gasempire.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5770528/age-of-e...rs-in-mid+game ------------------------------------------------------ Sony announced a $150 Full Deployment edition to arrive with SOCOM 4 that includes the game, a PlayStation Eye camera, a Move controller, a navigation controller, and the Sharp Shooter peripheral. It probably means sales for the Move's Sharp Shooter "zapper" must have been much lower than Sony hoped although the $49.99 price tag didn't help either. |

1st day sales results in Japan for the 3DS put it as #1 system seller of all-time with 400,000 sold or basically the entire Day 1 stock with the second shipment arriving today. It also managed to sell out in about 7 minutes once all the times and math was added up.
To put it in perspective, it beat the former #1 system (Wii) by 30,000 and the DS's opening by almost 200,000 units (230,000). The PSP only got 200,000 after 2 days and the PS3 reached about 83,000 in Day 1. |
Only asians can play the piano.

Playing the Dreamcast collection and forgot how awesomely funky Space Channel 5 is.
Also, Crazy Taxi is buggy as fuck. Really don't remember it being that bad on the DC. Could have replaced the music with something less generic as well :( |
LG have won an injunction against Sony about technology used in the blu-ray player in the PS3. There will be no new PS3's shipped to Europe for 10 days.
Sony are appealing, bit LG can also ask for the ban to be extended. |
The artists behind Metroid Prime series show off more of the canceled concept art from the first game in the series.
The art showed designs for a potential Mother Brain and other characters that were not in the final release of the game. Crocomire was pretty close to being included in the game due to the numerous concept art dealing with the character. As well as some settings that were removed or changed once the game was released on the Gamecube. Different types of suits that were not used in any of the Prime games also are shown such as the Galactic Federation super suit. http://betacache.gawkerassets.com/as...iontrooper.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5772706/metroid-...ing-room-floor ----------------------------- Serious Sam 3: BFE to have a 16-player online Co-Op mode for Story/Campaign Mode. EA and Grasshopper Manufacture set June 7, 2011 as the release date for Shinji Mikami and Suda 51's collaboration game called Shadows of the Dammed.
More info about the game was also revealed including a new take on the light-dark style gameplay and a health recovery system based on drinking alcohol. RPG-like elements in the game revolve around upgrading weapons with a gem-based system and a storyline influenced by Quentin Tarantino Grindhouse film. The game is still set to arrive on PS3 and Xbox 360 with no news on a possible PC version or pre-release demo. http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/as...sotd_river.jpg http://kotaku.com/#!5773804/go-to-he...ed-this-summer ------------------------------------------------------------ Sega confirms that Sonic 4: Episode 2 will be arriving after stating that they just started working on it ("early development" phase). Sega also stated they figured out how many episodes to make based on sales and feedback of the first episode and that there will be some changes for Episode 2 based on complaints of the first game as well. |
Quick question guys. My dad has a modded 360. I was wondering if it'd be safe if I brought my HD and plugged it into his 360, instead of having to bring everything over every time. He has no internet connected to it, so there's no worry of being caught while playing. I just wanted to be sure that any games and stuff I played offline at his place wouldn't be tracked back to my 360 via the HD
|
lol What?
|
Quote:
|
Alright, thanks. Just wasn't sure if any info or anything, saying the game was a copy or the console was modded, would be saved onto my HD that'd come back to bite me in the ass when I brought it back to my 360.

Awesome story about Iwata being introduced to Miyamoto for the first time 25 years ago and Iwata arrogantly believing he was better than anyone else programming games and that would be proven by sales.
Then got spanked, of course. |
"Flance".
|
Iwata talking about multiplayer games, even saying that Call of Duty and XBox Live are leading the way and that's what "social" gaming should be, not through Facebook. Wonder if he's building to a new Nintendo online strategy.

It is a developer conference though, so don't expect announcements, although there may be a surprise or two. Kirby was originally called Tinkle Popo when translated to English :'( |
Reggie's gonna talk why WiiWare and downloadable DSi was shit and why 3DS will do better. Also some games.
|
Netflix on 3DS in the summer. Will link with Wii so you can start watching on one and the other can pick up where it left off and stream to both devices at once with one account.
3D movie trailers coming for US, Green Lantern the first film. |
Nintendo are going to select content and have their own channel for 3D content, including music videos.
The 3D cameras will also record video. |
AT&T hot spots free to use for 3DS owners. Promising lots of demos as well.
|
Nintendo eShop will have the existing DSi store, Virtual Console (which has GB, GBC, Game Gear and TG16 games, but no GBA) and 3D Classics. Old games remastered in 3D.
Hoping GBA games come on the remastered channel then. |
Mario 3DS announced, by the team of Mario Galaxy

Talking about concerns with the industry. One was craftsmanship, basically talking about how people don't go back and redo parts of games to male sure it's as polished as possible.
He's got a point. Even the worst Nintendo game is polished as hell. |
Wii does have a lot of games, but a good chunk of it is the same game. Meanwhile, PS3 and 360 games can vary relatively largely from each other

Did he just say quantity is what matters to Sony and Microsoft, just after showing a chart that his company's systems have double the amount of Sony and Microsoft combined?
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...ynote-0100.jpg |
He was talking about Nintendo as a game developer, not in terms of Wii as a platform.
Bigging up MS and Sony's premium gaming as well as Nintendo's own, saying that mobile gaming being so cheap might hurt consumers perception of value and grab Angry Birds more than Call of Duty of Mario. Now saying the first 20 mins of the game are the most important. Fuck yes they are, hate games you have to plough through to get good. |
