I don't think it's been disclosed yet, but something around £2 million i imagine.

The Mackem 01-07-2005 08:50 AM

A lot of Sunderland fans have been singing his praises and wanting him to be signed for years but £2 million is way out of our capabilities methinks. I would be interested to see what would happen if Crewe kept him. They are within a shout of the play-offs.

Mr. Monday Morning 01-07-2005 10:47 AM

Yeah atm for him 6 months down the line Norwich could seem like a backward step.

Ogen 01-07-2005 11:39 AM

I like Crewe actually dunno why no reason at all really know feck all about them just like them. Hope he does well at Norwhich I'd like to see them stay up though

Oxstar 01-07-2005 12:09 PM

Hey Mackem the Eagles are gonna beat Sun-duh-land again, remember the play-offs?

The Mackem 01-07-2005 12:21 PM

Yeah i saw that the other day, good thing that we're getting younger people in.

Hearts fans don't seem as bothered as they were when we got Maybury, so is he any good? :$

yianni 01-09-2005 08:36 AM

We don't get much of the Scottish League here in Australia, but at South Melbourne he was one of our best players for the 2 years he was here. He played right back for us, and was an absolute rock. He should be in the Australian national team defence, apart from Craig Moore and Lucas Neil we have old farts holding the defence up (Vidmar, Muscat, Popovic). Anyway from what I've read he broke into Hearts' first team and has stayed there ever since so he must be doing well for them. Hopefully he does well for you blokes. :)

Apparantely Hearts have been playing him in midfield but either way we could do with bringing him in as our defence is too old and slow, and we need a ball winning midfielder.

yianni 01-09-2005 09:11 AM

Yeah he's got a good shot on him, he's come forward and let loose a few rockets. He's also good in the air, he's a good size and he's scored a couple of headed goals. Never saw him in midfield though, will be interesting to see how that works out.

Levein has no ambition. He'll ruin you by signing these useless Hearts players. There are better players in Scotland you could have signed and they would do you a job (Derek Riordan for a start).

Can't afford Riordan i don't think, though it would be nice to have him. If these players were good enough to get Hearts to successive 3rd place finishes in the SPL then they should be good enough for us.

He's been left with an old squad on big wages and 1 year contracts, so it's just nice to see him giving people longer deals and trying to build a younger side. As long as we don't go down this year then i don't mind how we do, next season is really the time to be judging Craig.

Di Canio investigated for questionable salute

http://images.tsn.ca/images/stories/...anio_47079.jpg
Associated Press

1/8/2005

ROME (AP) - Italy's soccer federation is investigating Lazio captain Paolo Di Canio for making what appeared to be a neo-fascist salute after his side's 3-1 derby victory over AS Roma this week.

The federation asked its inquiry office on Friday to study Di Canio's action. The star was photographed with his arm outstretched, palm facing down - a gesture generally associated in Italy with fascist leader Benito Mussolini.

Di Canio, who was widely criticized for the gesture, said it had no political significance.

The Lazio star, who scored the opening goal of the Thursday's match, said he has been a die-hard, or "ultra" Lazio fan for his entire life. Some "ultra" fans have sometimes used neo-fascist gestures at matches.

The player returned to Lazio this season after playing several years in the English Premier League, and is a popular player among the team's fans.

I think we've got to be realistic, if we can get anywhere in the Champions League with what we've got, great, but realistically we need to concentrate on qualifying for the Champions League next season, and Morientes will help that.

Wengerland 01-12-2005 06:48 AM

Hopefully Liverpool get Morientes in time for the United game, i know Mellor and Sinama-Pongolle have done alright in Cisse and Baros' absence but i'd b much more excited about the game if it was Baros and Morientes up front.

I hope Gravo doesn't leave Everton too, good player with a personality to match. I don't think he'd fit in personality-wise at Real Madrid.

Atletico fined after Carlos abuse

Atletico Madrid have been fined 600 euros (£420) for the racist chanting aimed at Real Madrid full-back Roberto Carlos during the La Liga derby.

The Spanish FA's disciplinary committee decided Sunday's incidents were only a minor misdemeanour.

Referee Alfonso Perez Burrull asked Atletico to put out an announcement on the stadium's PA system asking the fans to stop, in the 83rd minute.

However, the PA announcement resulted in an increase in the chanting.

The Spanish FA released a statement regarding the punishment.

"We wish to repeat our condemnation of this kind of behaviour and repeat our promise to act with maximum firmness to eradicate any display of racism or xenophobia in Spanish football," it read.

The fine is exactly the same amount Albacete were fined before Christmas when Barcelona striker Samuel Eto's was racially abused in Atletico's Carlos Belmonte stadium.

Burrull was again the referee for that contest, but on that occasion Albacete refused his request to make an announcement on their PA.

Their fine was reduced to 300 euros (£210) on appeal, but the fans who did the chanting were singled out by other supporters and fined 6,000 euros (£4,100) each, as well as receiving a five-month ban from other sporting events.

Drogba's chokehold.

If he gets charged on video evidence and suspended for three games, Chelsea will cry foul because he got booked and therefore shouldn't be charged later on, a la van Persie who got away with that elbow.

If he doesn't get charged on video evidence and suspended for three games, ManYoo will cry foul because Rooney got charged and suspended for three games for less on video evidence.

Can't win, ay

Ogen 01-13-2005 03:34 AM

Fortune was being a complete arse though I'd have choked him myself.

Dazz 01-13-2005 10:27 AM

No one fucks with Drogba, Kezman or Terry, you will get battered, United are the pussiest team in the league, and how anyone can think Heinze is hard is a joke. He came with a reputation of being hard, he crunched some bloke in the Champions League near the touchline at Old Trafford earlier this season, which probably made me think he was hard, but last nights game proved he is as pussy and girly as the rest of Argentina, they will never win a war if pussies like him are deemed to be hard. What a fucking joke.

Maluco 01-13-2005 12:45 PM

That is a joke really mate, but sorry, Keane or Carroll would batter any of those three you mentioned, and as for players thinking they ae hard, Kezman is the prime example. Maybe if he actually starts playing first team football and isn't bollox he can start his stupid taunting. Drogba beating up anyone, lol

Rob 01-13-2005 12:49 PM

No one fucks with Drogba, Terry and Kezman? Get a "viamolin" and tell play it to someone who cares. Yeah Chelsea are a such a bad arse team and Man United are pussies. That's why Chelsea are crying about everything. Drogba was crying about the referees watch from the 46th minute. £24 million of useless tosser. And as for Fortune, check the picture posted. He was only willing to fight your whole team after it took all of them to drag him from Drogba.

As for never winning wars, where are you from again? Iran? :p

Dazz 01-13-2005 12:59 PM

I am half English, only a quarter Iranian.

Drogba would have ended Fortune, Terry is always up for a ruck, the way he pushed Graveson round at Stamford Bridge earlier this season was great. Kezman is a fucking pitbull, he goes in hard and he looks like he is hard too, he would fucking do Keano, Carrol or Fortune, I am shocked Roy Carrol even got a mention, are you Irish, Fallen.

Fortune willing to fight our whole team is bollocks and you know it, Harvey, if anything he knew back up would arrive, plus trying to wind our whole team up would result in us getting in the shit, which he may have also had in mind. He knew no would would punch him during the match, I'd like to see him even think about taking on our whole team, or even just Drogba on his own, if he saw them in the streets,

Fergie on Rooney:

"He's actually a quiet boy with great enthusiasm in training. He loves training. I used to just have one problem on the training ground, which was Scholes. Now there are two of them. They get on early and you can't get them off after. They batter balls all over the place and one of them will hit me one day and kill me. That Scholes sends them inches by my head. Then all they hear is me bellowing 'Scholes!' 'What?' he says, looking up like an angel. And they hit the ball hard. Gary Neville was having a piss one day, 45 yards away by the fence. Scholes whacked him right in the arse."
