Former MLB pitcher Frank Castillo dies at age 44, drowned in a lake
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb...211450477.html I remember him having a nice little season with the Jays |
hate baseball
|
what he said
|
This season isn't fun anymore. :'(
|
At least it's still more fun than last year
|
So true.
|
I thought the deadline was tomorrow? Doesn't matter, trades go down in August a lot the last couple years.
|
Wednesday, 4pm is the deadline

Wilson to the Dodgers

Want to kill myself

AJ Burnett would be Mayor of Pittsburgh if he ran. Good god what a man.

Peavy got scratched tonight.
Any idea who's the frontrunner for him? |
Apparently it was Boston. 3-team deal with Tigers involved.
|
<font color=goldenrod>To Red Sox: SP Jake Peavy
To Tigers: SS Jose Iglesias To White Sox: OF Avisail Garcia</font> |
Jake Arrieta looked descent tonight. A few too many 3 ball counts for my taste but overall good. Can't wait till RP bitches about him and how they should never have traded Feldman.
|
<font color=goldenrod>I never thought I'd live in a world where I can actually be sold on Eric Young, Jr. and Juan Lagares being a part of the Mets' 2014 outfield.</font>

Fuckin' Arrieta is a cunt and will prove it in that cesspool they call Wrigley.

The curse of Crazy Edgar.

Awwww. That's so sweet.

Slowly coming around to being a fan again after these trades. Fuck their executives on their business side still. Hope they all get ALS.
|
Been a very active trade season. Seems like all the big ones have happened. Who's the biggest name likely to be dealt? Bud Norris?
|
Braves starting to look scary. Andrelton Simmons is probably winning a Gold Glove based on this month alone...totally making up for his poor early play this year.
|
Mark Buehrle. Complete game shut out last week, 7 shut out innings against the A's tonight.

The Leafs have been an embarassment for years. The stories I could tell you about their former owner Harold Ballard would knock you socks off. He'd be in jail if he did the things he did then. Actually went to jail while he owned the Leafs. No Stanley Cups or even finals appearences since 1967.
|
<font color=goldenrod>Most likely gonna be a quiet trading deadline for the Mets. Marlon Byrd is their most tradeable guy. .282/17 HR/60 RBI. On a league minimum contract. About to turn 36.
Seems like a key candidate to get flipped to a contender, but just like last year Sandy isn't trading anybody if they don't get something of value in return. No intention on trading him just for the sake of trading him.</font> |
I'm cautiously optimistic about the Iglesias trade.
Tigers have lots of OF depth so Garcia was expendable. Villareal never impressed me so I don't know, don't mind seeing him go. Iglesias provides an upgrade in defense over Peralta. JP isn't necessarily "bad", but with Miggy and Prince at the corners you need someone better than average at SS to compensate. Even without a looming Peralta suspension, I like the pickup. Peralta is probably gone as a FA after this season regardless, so it's a great pickup from the Tigers to fill that void. The obvious glove upgrade is good too. Obviously Iglesias' numbers are going to regress and come down a bit but that's fine, if he can hit for decent average and provide good defense that's all we really need from him. The biggest part of the pickup obviously is if Peralta gets suspended (looking more likely by the day it seems), so it's a great insurance pickup. |
I continue to despise the Red Sux. I hope Peavy rips his back muscles from his spine again.
|
I just continue hope that PEDroia's name comes up somewhere
|
Crazy Edgar has become Crazy Vicious Edgar.

He's got to get used to watching Alfonso Soriano at bats. Give him time to adjust.

I'm just happy that the Yanks finally have a solid 1-5 again: Gardner, Jeter, Cano, Soriano, Ichiro
Notice that Lyle Overbay isn't clean up anymore. Lyle. Overbay. Cleanup. Yankees. |
The spurts of power, such as last nights HR, intoxicated Girardi and forced his hand I think. There was no one else. But you are right, it's starting to resemble an actual professional line up.
|
I'm enjoying the ride the Pirates are giving this season, but I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.
It's still weird to see that according to http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/, the Pirates have a better chance to win the WS (6.7%) than to NOT make the playoffs (1.1%) |
I understand the apprehension of Pirates fans but the optimism has be through the roof at the same time. Best team in baseball and its August. Fun to watch. El Toro might be a back door NL MVP candidate if he keeps it up.

would've killed for Lyle Overbay then |
Worst trade deadline ever.

On paper, the Tigers seem to be the winners considering Iglesias is currently rated as the best defensive SS in the AL and only needs more time to develop into a potentially good hitter. |
Nelson Cruz joins A-Rod as the only players so far appealing their suspensions although A-Rod's is rumored to be punished under the CBA rules and not drug rules which makes an appeal impossible.

Orioles get Norris from Houston

Padres grab Mr. Ian Kennedy....................KENNEDY! from the D-Backs.
Bit of a head scratcher, imo. He reinvented himself in Arizona and was starting to become a bit of a folk hero there. |
From.........well everybody.
After learning he's starring down the barrel of a lifetime ban from baseball, and his lawyer saying they'll fight any punishment MLB give him, A-Rod is at the negotiating table trying to work out a deal. Most of the other players involved in the Biogenesis scandal either cut their deals already or are expecting a 50-game suspension. Damn, gonna be a historic day in sports tomorrow. |
Wonder if it means Nelson Cruz is also going to back down from appealing since he's the only other one who publicly said he'd appeal as well.
|
Love, love, love the Ian Kennedy acquisition for the Padres. Fly ball pitchers in PETCO do really, really well. Love that the main piece of the deal was a left handed specialist, who, in 50 games, has thrown 30 lousy innings, to go along with a non prospect relief pitcher and a competitive balance pick. For a guy who is going to give the Padres 180 to 200 innings at an at least league average clip for the next 2.5 years. What a hose.
Love Peavy to the Red Sox, because I love Jake Peavy more than any man on Earth not named Tony Gwynn. Think it's a great pickup. They get a legitimate top of the rotation starter, when healthy, for a weak hitting defensive wiz of a short stop. Don't think Alisail Garcia will amount to much. Tigers got a great glove, and with their ridiculous offense, they don't need his stick to produce in order to gain value from him going forward. Also, the move allows the Red Sox to hand Xander Bogearts the SS job in the near future, and he's projected as an above average bat as a SS, which is basically an all star. Astros did well. I don't think Norris is anything special. He's been olay this year, but his strikeouts are down, and I don't think he's going to be much better than he is now, os moving him was the best decision. Orioles bolster their rotation with another solid arm. Much better deals this year for the Orioles this year than last year's dumpster diving. |
Peavy's HR per game is high. I wonder how he'll do in Fenway.
Jays do nothing. That's nice. |
Jays shouldn't have done too much. I think they did the right thing in sticking to their plan of building for a contender in the now. That was the plan going in to the season and it would have sucked to ditch it (ala the Marlins) after 1 year. They got to replace Johnson t year end. Drabek should be healthy and hopefully they can pick up a 1st round pick for Johnson. Melky is a bust, hopefully Gose(sp?) get a nod next year.

Yanks-Dodgers. Kuroda v. Kershaw is a pitching enthusiasts delight.

Braves 6-0 since Waffle House established at Turner Field. Best trade deadline acquisition?
|
3 of those were against the Rockies, who should really just start forfeiting games at Turner Field
|
The Yankees shut out the Dodgers, with Kershaw pitching?!
Is it backwards day today? |
Buck Showalter thinks if MLB does a year or longer suspension for A-Rod, its going to act as a big reward for the Yankees instead of hurting them. MLB would have helped them get under the luxury tax threshold and they can splurge again without worrying about the the massive tax penalty (drops from 50% to just 17%).
Also thinks the Os would lose catcher Matt Wieters because they wouldn't be able to compete with the money the Yankees would have saved from A-Rod alone. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...ed-2014-season |
That's Buck's opinion.
But I think the general vibe around The Empire is that we ain't gonna get under $189 mil. next season. |
Yankees sign the No. 5 international prospect today. He's an outfielder.
I approve. Slowly plugging the positions needed in the future. |
Buck Showalter is a chatty Kathy
|
Yankees fans still upset at Buck Showalter over the cotton uniforms.
|
But Cotton breathes, damnit
|
Imagine playing games and your team is five degrees cooler than the other team. Don't you think that would be an advantage? They're cooler, they're more comfortable...they're happier. They're gonna play better.
|
According to ESPN, A-Rod and his reps have a few days to negotiate a deal with MLB over his suspension or else they will just go ahead with whatever they want as a punishment.
So far MLB is still threatening a lifetime ban if he keeps being stubborn and even with a negotiated deal, his will still be the longest out of everyone from the clinic. Quote:

Wow at the huge comeback win for the Red Sox
Was down 7-2 bottom of the 9th and ended up winning 8-7. Nava's game winning hit just missed being a grand slam by a few inches. |
I think I heard on the Braves' broadcast that their magic number going into tonight was 44. That's probably pretty good, considering where we are in the season.

I remember that year very well. Good fodder for the AL East

Tribe totally pantsed the white sox this week. Everyone told me I was crazy when I said the wheels were going to fall off the wagon. Funny thing is no one is getting fired because they just promoted everyone in the front office. I'm sure a hitting coach or strength and conditioning coach get the ax tho.
Mike Olt like 2 for 35 so far with the Cubs in AAA. Legitimately worried. |

That's even funnier than the Raul Ibanez gif where he threw a ball like he was Carly Rae Jepsen. Gotta go dig that one up.

Putting in spoiler tags because too many animated gifs makes my work computer want to kill itself.

Grandyman got activated for tonight.
Soooooooo, we calling this act 2 or act 3? |
lol wtf watching Nats/Brewers game in the background and the stadium announcers just went "Now pinch hitting, Chris Davis" and in my semi-drunken state I was like WHAT THE HECK
Guess they have some jobber named Khris (yes, Khris) Davis on their team. Baseball is such a funny sport. |
Yankees game was awful, sad I stayed up to watch CC continue to pitch like he had a mixture of mental retardation and scoliosis.

According to ESPN and others, A-Rod is currently looking at a ban that will last until the end of the 2014 season or roughly 214 games when MLB makes it official on Monday. MLB gave up trying to negotiate with him anymore after recent talks stalled.

Our favorite nerd, Eric Sogard, is getting punked the fuck out on twitter by Matt Garza

oh yeah and i suppose theres some sexism too but whatevs
|
It appears that his wife didn't really say anything though.

He's mad at a guy for bunting in a totally legitimate bunting situation. Garza's kinda being a bitch here.
|
It's a man's game, Supreme
|
You can see him mouth "fucking bullshit" as he throws to first. I think he calls Sogard a pussy too but can't really see it. Pretty funny.
