Moviepass #77 Unfriended 2 - 1/10
Just barely better than mother! I can't tell you enough about how stupid this movie is. So just heed my warning lol

Sorry to Bother You-7/10

Working in a call center, I found the first 2/3 of the movie funny and relatable. Then it went into some really weird territory that threw me for a loop and even 24 hours after seeing it, I'm still not sure how to feel about the 3rd act. But it was still enjoyable and funny enough.

Yep.

The beginning of the third act felt like a trip without dropping acid.

Moviepass #78 Equalizer 2 7.5/10

I give it a decent score because it wasn't bad but at the end of the day it felt unnecessary as a sequel.

The new jurassic park movie 3.2/7 decent thats about it

Delirious - 4/4

I can't think of a similar type of film that comes close to this overlooked, unheralded takedown of fame chasers and their neuroses. This is a stunning picture about the escalation and self immolation of the fantasists that hunt for publicity in an all-or-nothing attempt at gaining or retaining an audience, a following and acceptance. Tom DiCillo is a name I had heard perhaps but definitely had no idea about and here he has created a work of fiction so concise, so accurate that I doubt I will ever forget him. In fact I should really be looking to experience more of his product because I was enthralled by "Delirious".
Steve Buscemi plays off Michael Pitt like mustard on a hot dog and he is glorious as a cheap, unrefined yet deliciously shameless little nobody of a paparazzo against Michael Pitt's beleaguered transient actor-wannabe with charisma pouring from his aura.

Nobody wants to know Steve, nobody knows but everybody wants Michael and what the world isn't aware of is the broken promises and unimaginable torments that the truly famous can expect to face when the parasites catch their scent.

This is a film about conversations that lead to calamity and misfortune that polishes to a golden shine. Maybe perceptions are best left unexplored and perhaps apathy has had it's day.

Seanny One Ball 07-23-2018 06:17 PM

I really really loved Delirious. The chemistry between Buscemi and Pitt shows ability at it's very peak. I cannot stress that enough. This is a film for the fantasists and the dreamers as well as a film about them.

EXACTLY! Which is what I thought it was until it was explained.

Seanny One Ball 07-24-2018 07:12 PM

I'm about to watch I, Tonya. I don't hold out much hope for Margot Robbie, but I hear Alison Janney is superb.

Seanny One Ball 07-24-2018 07:51 PM

The facial CGI in this is absolutely appalling.

Moviepass #79 (not really*) MI: Fallout 8.5/10 solid movie

*Moviepass was down the whole night so I had to pay out of pocket

Damian Rey 2.0 07-27-2018 03:46 AM

Excited for Fallout. The last one was stellar.

Droford 07-27-2018 10:05 AM

RIP Moviepass

They finally ran out of money lol

Oh well

Frank Drebin 07-27-2018 01:01 PM

They got a loan! Go while you still can! For freedom!

Damian Rey 2.0 07-28-2018 03:08 AM

They didn't have but one showing off MI:Fallout. Like 40 miles away. Bastards. Such a great thing.

Moviepass #80 3 Identical Strangers 8/10 solid documentary

And probably my last moviepass movie since its down again tonight

slik 07-28-2018 10:32 PM

Teen Titans Go The Movies - 7.5/10

Droford, I almost saw Identical Strangers but didn't feel like to driving the the theatre it was playing at and decided I wanted something light. MP didn't work for me either so I ended up paying out of pocket...

It was surprisingly cute. Silly and harmless. Parodies the DC and Marvel flicks a lot, kids would like it.

GD 07-28-2018 11:29 PM

Mission Impossible: Fallout - 9/10

I haven't seen such a well made action film in a very long time. Highest of recommendations. If you have Dolby Cinema near you, it's definitely worth spending the extra cash.

Seanny One Ball 07-31-2018 03:52 PM

Lego Ninjago Movie - 3/4

I thought this was almost as good as Lego Batman. I love the animation, it's pretty incredible how Lego looks on screen. I watched a short documentary about their methods once and they have a huge database of animated parts which correspond to real-life Lego pieces just for the fact kids will be able to recreate these films at home. I know I'm extremely late in the game for the Lego movie phenomenon but I liked this a lot so maybe it's best for anyone not yet overexposed.

You Were Never Really Here - 8/10

Joaquin Phoenix is visceral.

Moviepass #81 Blindspotting 7.5/10

Was expecting something way more serious (although it had its moments) but it had some humor.

GD 08-02-2018 01:04 AM

Hey Droford, I've been having a lot of service interruptions as far as MoviePass is concerned. Considering cancelling it for AMC's offering.

Incredibles 2 - 8/10

The short film was absolutely adorable.

He and I are talking about it in his thread. I'm right there with you. The surge pricing, limiting showtimes and eliminating movies all together was the death knell.

I've read you can use the 2nd and 3rd movie options each week as an extra ticket for a guest. That's brilliant if true. I'll be getting the AMC pass next week.

GD 08-02-2018 01:19 AM

Indeed. It's a bummer that they're not allowing members to watch "Mission Impossible: Fallout". Then again, whenever such a big film opens, I don't mind spending extra for IMAX / Dolby Cinema (which are included in AMC's A-List program). MoviePass was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Damian Rey 2.0 08-02-2018 01:38 AM

It was. I'll end up getting around 22 movies or so out of it. In about 6 months. That's a huge return on investment. But the AMC pass seems like it'll be a good get. Especially with the option to use any format.

Blue Demon 08-02-2018 09:19 AM

Super Troopers 2 - 3.5/5. It was fun, but the jokes seemed a bit stale.

The Psychotronic Man (1979) aka Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man

No review, just to say I bought this for the amazing name and DVD cover art. This film has lots of weird shit in it and for some reason it has an incredible theme tune.

It's about a middle aged hairdresser called Rocky who drinks hairdressers sterilising solution(or it may have been booze hidden in a hair product bottle) and goes on a bender. He then wakes up with the ability to fuck things up with his mind after some weird floaty stuff happens to his car in....a dream?
It looks like a drive-in movie and the lead actor is clearly 45 with a marvellous thick moustache.

For production trickery there is a fair amount of slowed and sped up footage, the odd cut and loop here and there but this isn't a steak, it's not even a burger or a hot dog. This movie is Vienna sausage at best and sometimes those little bastards will do in a pinch.

I basically love this film.

For an indie flick with almost entirely amateur actors filling the cast I have to give it a 2.5/4.

Seanny One Ball 08-02-2018 04:12 PM

I accidentally reviewed it

Sixx 08-02-2018 06:23 PM

Fine review as always.

Seanny One Ball 08-02-2018 07:32 PM

I'm a big Jane Levy fan so I'm watching "Don't Breathe" for the first time.
This is fucking nuts. A genuinely tense horror film that hasn't descended into cheap jumps(yet).

I wonder if this inspired A Quiet Place? Seems like a very simple premise. Surely has a niche in the genre.

Seanny One Ball 08-02-2018 07:35 PM

Stephen Lang is kind of perfect for horror.

On a side note the young guy in this is the spitting image of Logan Lerman

Seanny One Ball 08-02-2018 07:53 PM

Oh Jesus Fucking Christ

Seanny One Ball 08-02-2018 07:56 PM

This is next level shit man

Seanny One Ball 08-02-2018 08:15 PM

Don't Breathe - 4/4

Throws you every which way but loose, then when you think you finally are loose suddenly the ground opens up beneath you and you're back in the cellar.

This could have gone comically wrong in the wrong hands(I'm thinking of James Wan and Leigh Whannel here) but due to the strength of performance from Levy, Lang and Minnette and the commitment to character you never really pick holes in the plot. Or at least I didn't and that could also be due to the pace of the plot. It zips along but it's a streamlined film with no unnecessary flash, all of the substance is saved for the script, performances and the quality of the production. It reminds me of an HBO show the way it moves.

Absolutely amazing.

Mission Impossible - Fallout: 10/10

might be my fav action movie since Mad Max or John Wick. It's up there

Lock Jaw 08-03-2018 09:47 AM

Do I need to see any of the recent movies to fully appreciate it? Don't think I've seen a Mission Impossible since 3. Even that, I'm not sure I saw.

I mean, I don't really remember any.
