I finished the final season of Billions. It was rather 'blah.' The ending and the defeat of Michael Prince was just too neat and convenient. Just lazy.
I tried to watch season 2 of Loki, but I was bored after the first episode and haven't returned. I tried Barry, as suggested by Seanny, but I wasn't feeling it. I've started re-watching the sci-fi series, Defiance, and I still have season 3 of Peaky Blinders to finish. |
When you have the time, start Yellowstone. So damn good!

It's interesting--Koppelman and Levien wrote Rounders which is a classic for guys like us. Dunno if it's like a masterpiece but definitely a highly revered movie of our formative years. I guess where I'm getting is I wonder if Billions would've been better and less an over-the-top piece of shit if it was just a mini-series or movie. I don't wanna give the wrong idea here. I loved watching it, even after Damian Lewis left. Giammati does a lot with the silliness and I can watch him all day as Chuck "named after Dusty" Rhoades. It's just...season 7 was kinda like, "whoa was it actually this insufferable the whole time?" Also, I think Succession coming out during Billions's run really made it look bush league as fuck. Filet mignon versus a Happy Meal cheeseburger. It basically just becomes Suits, which also sucks. |

:wtf: He’s been watching that for a lot longer than either of us. |
Reacher season 2 is out, which is just in time to take over from “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” which finishes this weekend.
Reacher is a great shit, it isn’t trying to be a smart show just a well done piece of escapism. Alan Ritchson looks even bigger this year. |
The dialogue is so painfully expository at times that I’m glad the action is so tremendous. It’s pretty tongue in cheek but at the same time no amount of nods and winks to the audience can overcome the slog that is the interplay between characters at times.
The best thing about the books is the lack of dreary dialogue, it’s mostly just paragraphs of description but I suppose that would make for a terribly dull show. |
I'm leaving 'Lawmen: Bass Reeves' for Xmas or the New Year.
I'll wait until all the episodes for season 2 of 'Reacher' are out before watching it. Season 5 Part 2 of 'Yellowstone' is not out until November 2024, which sucks arse. I watched the second episode of 'Barry,' and I liked it more this time round. Therefore, I'll continue checking it out from time to time. Though, it might just be because I find the blonde woman attractive that I'm inclined to give it another go. |
Oh for fuck’s sake you would fancy that horrible cunt wouldn’t you
|
Just watching Reacher drown a guy in cement there and I’m thinking “get some information out of him first” but no, no he just drowns him dead. Straight away he says “We should have kept one alive”.
No shit Jack, no shit. |
Quote:
Anyway, I'm all caught up and have to wait until November 2024 for the next half of the season. They left on some big fucking cliff hangers too. Outstanding show. I'd watch it over from the start again. Started Lawmen Bass Reeves. 3 episodes in, and it's amazingly well told. Great show already. |
I've watched the first episode of Lawmen: Bass Reeves. I'm feeling it, and I want more.
I'm also three episodes into a mini-series, The English, which is another revisionist western. I like it, even though Emily Blunt's character is a borderline Mary Sue; Blunt's performance pulls it off for the most part. It is not up there with 1883 or the above Bass Reeves (even though I've only watched one episode thus far), but for Seanny and anyone else looking for more western fare, you might want to check it out. |
Bass Reeves only gets better my dude. 4 EP in and yeah.
|
I've finished Bass Reeves.
It's not up there with 1883; I felt it lost its way in the latter stages, and had some sub-plots that were either underdeveloped or went nowhere. However, I still enjoyed it. David Oyelowo was great in his role, as was Barry Pepper. |
You are right about it growing increasingly directionless towards the end. There is a sub plot involving the daughter that dead ends in the strangest way with absolutely no resolution and the ending had me annoyed that so much history was set aside so they could do the old Mandingo/Django red herring. It was still very good though, you have to give the credit to Oyelowo for it.

Started watching Berlín

Still, he did a HELLUVA job in his role. |
Finished Star Trek: TNG Season 6, and Star Trek: DS9 Season 1.
On to the next! Was "great" seeing the two part S6/S7 TNG season finale/premiere... brought back lots of "memories" of being a hyped up kid watching it... |
Didn't realize Archer season 14 was on (Canada) Netflix. Watched the full season in 3 sittings. For the ups and downs the show has gone through during the "coma seasons", I always have enjoyed the show. Jessica Walter's sendoff at the end of season 12 was done really really well. I thought this season was pretty good. The last episode seemed a bit anticlimactic but apparently there's a 3-episode "finale event" called Into the Cold that I guess concludes things even after the 8 episode season. Going to have to wait for that to show up on Netflix or just stream it somewhere else. Gotta see how that shit all ends up.
In a similar note, been slow-burning the last season of Letterkenny. Just finished episodes 4 and 5 last night. Not sure I am emotionally ready for the finale that we'll likely watch tonight. :'( |

The baseball episode in season 7 is the best Star Trek episode ever idc |
OH ALSO watched Pokemon Concierge on Netflix and I didn't even know what it was until it showed up on the "just released" or whatever and it is the most adorable thing of all time and the best thing Pokemon has ever done. Shame it is only 4 episodes but I highly recommend to anyone who has a soul at all and if you don't like it I hate you
|
hate me more, makes me feel goooooooooood
|

Season 1 was not great but I think I could definitely appreciate it a lot more. Meanwhile, TNG after the first 2/3 seasons has been gold, and I also appreciate it a lot more as an adult. Also "cool", but also sad, to see some of the "moral dilemma" or "questions" raised on the shows still be relevant to discussions today. |
Got ahold of the first 3 seasons of Have Gun, Will Travel so started digging into that
|
haha make fun of me if you will but I have recently started watching Baywatch!
|
I'm re-watching the first season of Community at the moment. I always forget how great this series is; the first couple of episodes are a bit iffy, but after that, it is nothing but gold.
It has also rekindled my love for Alison Brie. |
Go and watch GLOW, one sight of her ankle spankers will set you right again.
|
I've watched season four of Peaky Blinders. For some reason, I enjoyed it more than the previous seasons, though once again, it pulls the ending out of its own arse. I don't think I'll bother with seasons 5 and 6, at least for now.
I'm half way through season 2 of Community and it remains glorious. After buying it 6-7 years ago, I've finally started the first season of Boardwalk Empire. I'm two episodes in and I'm not entirely sold on it. Also, what is up the opening credits theme music? It is perhaps the blandest HBO theme music I've ever heard. As my appreciation for a show/film, up to a certain point, is dependent on the music, this is probably why I'm a bit 'meh' towards the show at the mo. I've also watched the first episode of season 2 Reacher. Something already feels off, but lets see. |
I really like the intro of Boardwalk Empire....
It is a pretty "slow" show though.... season 3 was great though... so much so that I never finished the show... was just like "well, it's not getting better than that" |
I've finished Reacher.
I liked it, but there was something missing that the first season had, though I can't exactly explain what. The woman who plays Dixon, however, is fine as fuck and helps to make up for it. |
I've been feeling the urge, as of late, to re-watch the gloriously trashy and entertaining Spartacus series. I've bought the first two seasons on the cheap, so I'm going to start this evening.
I'm still doing my re-watch of Community; nearly at the end of season 3. I don't think I've watched anymore of Boardwalk since I last mentioned it; I need to get on with that. |
Finished Letterkenny and nearly caught up on Shoresy. Looking for a new show to watch. Was at my mom's last night and she said she was watching Loudermilk on Netflix and really liking it, might check that out...
|
I was also at yr mom's last night, must have just missed you....
|
Started watching the final season of Doom Patrol.... remembered how delightfully weird it is....
First episode featured them fighting this dude https://i.imgur.com/eDEtlTq.jpg Then there were also zombie butt-monsters.... |
Gee, wonder how a giant cod piece fits into zombie butt monsters :|
|
I'm on to the final season of Spartacus now.
I will always wonder how the final two seasons would have been like with Andy Whitfield in the lead, but Liam McIntyre does a fine job; he could do with beefing up a little, though. I'm coming to the end of season 5 of Community. With the exception of the MeowMeowBeenz episode, which is fantastic (and I love the Logan's Run aspect of it), the show is past its prime. I'm going to start that Mr & Mrs Smith season soon. |
Watching masters of Air
It’s pretty good, not band of brothers quality Elvis and the other handsome guy want to kiss sooooooooo bad just do it already It’s hard to tell the rest of the white people apart |
Quote:
Liam McIntyre did as admirably as anyone could have after Andy Whitfield died. He was a bit like Chadwick Boseman in that his career had only just taken off right when he passed away. Hannah Mangan Lawrence was so hot in season two… absurdly attractive woman. Never seen her since. Probably retired to have kids or whatever. Bring her back! They are allegedly making “The House Of Ashur” as a sequel that hypothesises what would happen if Ashur survived his death duel. Tarabay apparently returning. |
Ashur got beheaded; madness.
|
Just started The Fall of the House of Usher with Tb1 and his lady on Monday. Enjoyed the first two episodes, particularly the sound design.

Let’s resurrect a rapist to reactivate a franchise that was cool ten years ago. |
Spartacus is genuinely one of the best series I have ever seen. So violent, so sexy, so Roman.
|
I watched season 1 of that show and enjoyed the payoff, but I never watched beyond that. The first half I remember being a huge bummer. But I kept watching cuz of John Hannah and my thirst for gladiator TV. And the latter half of the season went whole hog, and I was left satisfied.
|
The prequel series, Gods of the Arena, gives you more John Hannah, and sets up the next two seasons that follow on from events in Blood and Sand. All worth watching.
I'm on to the final episode, which I'm going to watch tomorrow. |
I finished the sixth and final season of Community.
By this point, the show has long past its peak. I felt for the most part that I was only watching this season out of the need to be a completist. Seasons 1 and 2 will always reign supreme, and should be watched by all. Moving on, I attempted to watch the new Amazon series, Mr & Mrs Smith, but I didn't get past the first episode. I just found it tedious. I'm not sure what I'm going to watch after I've finished Spartacus. I do still need to finish the first season of Boardwalk Empire, but I have no real desire to watch it. |
I've had Shogun sitting in my DVD collection for years. Figure it's time I get it done before FX does their remake at the end of the month.
|
Spartacus is done. Glorious. I'll probably end up watching it again 3-4 years from now.
I'm feeling the urge to revisit 24, Battlestar Galactica and Six Feet Under, at the moment. I'll make a decision soon. |
I've settled on re-watching Battlestar Galactica (2000s), and to also revisit seasons 1 to 3 of Weeds. The first three seasons of Weeds are gold, but it descends into utter shite afterwards.
|
You should watch an old miniseries called “Centennial” which can be found on that site I showed you.
|
Started “Letterkenny” after seeing it on the same site for the last year or two.
Superb. |
[not a show] Watched Flashdance on Valentine's Day, hadn't since the 90s. Really enjoyed it (again).
|
“Letterkenny” is an outstanding sitcom. The lead, the hockey kids and the meth guys are all superb. It’s only weakness is the over-egging of good jokes. They do the “let’s give funny examples one after another” routine way too often but the rest is pretty much gold.
People should have recommended this to me but at least now I can binge it. I’m taking down a season a day so far. So many great moments already gone. |
Love Letterkenny. It does tend to get a bit "stale" later on as the format and jokes start to feel a bit samey. But it's a glorious ride all the same. Fuckin' degens.
Strongly recommend checking out Shoresy after you're done with LK. |

I'm loving Galactica at the moment. |
[again not a show] The Fraze is going to probably watch Sisu and True Romance sometime in the coming weeks.

It has an 8.4 on IMDB. Outrageous partisan voting.

Masters of the Air pretty good,,,not quite Band of Brothers but still really good
Really wanted Elvis and the other handsome guy to kiss so bad |
I'm enjoying Battlestar Galactica a lot at the moment. On to season 3 at the moment.
You forget how good Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos were in this programme; they were the bedrock of the show. Katee Sackhoff was also top notch as Starbuck. |
I should finish Battlestar Galactica today. It has been a great ride again.

Watched first two eps of Shogun. Tremendous.
|
Just watched the TNG episode where Dr Crusher bones a ghost... so halfway through the final season. Slowed down my watching a little.
Also been watching the X-Men animated series... on season 4... I like how S1 and 2 are "relatively grounded" mainly about human/mutants..... then S3 just goes banana and is all ALIENS and SPACE. |
Watched the first live-action episode of One Piece. I enjoyed it. Never really read the manga or watched the anime so going in relatively "blind" and don't have a point of reference to compare to, but it seems fun so far.
|
Nobody watching Shogun?
|
I'm waiting until there are more episodes before I watch Shogun.
I'm currently in the early stages of The Winter King, which is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's take on the Arthurian legend. I'm undecided on it at the mo, but I'll probably still watch it through to the end. It doesn't touch The Last Kingdom series, which was another adaptation of a Cornwell book series. I'm also now on to season 2 of Weeds. |
Zoey Deschanel has appeared in Weeds. My late 2000s-early 2010s love for her is returning.
I've got several series on the go at the moment. I'm coming to the end of The Winter King. It's not bad; it gives me my 'historical'/swords and shields fix. I've also started a rewatch of Farscape and Colony. I'd forgotten how bangable Claudia Black was, back in the day; she probably still is. |
Watched Weeds all the way through because the main gal in it is so f'n sexy.
|
Mary-Louise Parker was top drawer until she started pumping things into her face.

The first season of Farscape is mad cheese, but also bloody great. Not as good as the later seasons, when Crichton slowly goes bonkers, along with the show. It is amazing how well the voice acting is for Rygel; you soon forget he is a puppet.
Against my better judgement, I've moved on to season 4 of Weeds. I'd forgotten this season had Julie Bowen in it; glorious. |
Still watching One Piece. About 4-5 episodes in, quite enjoying it. It still has that same kind of... I dunno, "real action humans seem wooden" kind of feeling, when you're watching something adapted from an animated medium. Never watched the anime much so I can't compare this to that, but it reminds me of how I felt when watching the Netflix version of Cowboy Bebop in like it very distinctly felt like the actors were caricatures emulating another character's movements that were done way better in anime. Does that make sense? Probably not, I haven't had my coffee. But anyway, One Piece is pretty great so far. Will probably start binging the anime once I'm done this Netflix series.
Also started watching the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 revival on Netflix. I always loved the idea of the original show but never watched it religiously. Having a blast with this one. I'm sure MST3k purists will hate it because that's what people do, but it's given me some good laughs |
MST3K is a great show to just drop into every now and then. I’ve never seen any of the new ones but it’s a hard gimmick to fuck up so it’s probably still good.
|
Finishing Andor today. Hasn't been that bad but the first half of the season took a bit to get through.
|
The Gentlemen. Really solid stuff. Doesnt have to pace of classic Guy Ritchie but it has the spirit.
|
Finished up Star Trek TNG yesterday at last... bittersweet to reach the end, but... All good things....
2 episodes left in season 2 of DS9 Onwards and upwards |
Garak is the best Star Trek character idc what anyone says
|
Got bored and curious enough to watch the first episode of “Cowboy Bebop”.
It was pretty good. |
Animated?

I'm coming to the end of season 2 of Farscape. As much as I enjoy/have enjoyed the various North American sci-fis series produced over the past 20-30 years, Farscape demonstrates how bland and sanitised such shows have been. One Farscape episode has more imagination and character than most shows can muster in their entire run.
Season 2 also employs 3-4 episode story arcs, which really fleshes out a story and allows for more character development. Good stuff. |

Missing Ond Punch and Dorohedoro though. |
Will binge “Shogun” when it is all available.
The ratings are too consistent to ignore. |
The original is great. Top tier. They tried a netflix love action series 2ish years ago that was a dumpster fire
|
Was that with Harold in it? I remember seeing a poster but I assumed it was a film.
I’ll watch a couple of the anime episodes tonight if I get the chance. |
Animated is exponentially better than the live action Netflix one. It's a pretty fantastic anime in its own right. If you really enjoy it, I recommend Trigun as well it has kind of a similar theme
|
I Googled “One Punch Man, Dorohedoro, Cowboy Bebop” and Reddit threads turned up Trigun, Chainsaw Man and Berserk as suggestions.
I’ll see how Bebop takes me. I should really watch Dorohedoro again though, it was idiosyncratic in the best way. |
Trigun is my favorite anime. Hence my avatar
|
I’ve seen the opening six sessions/episodes of Cowboy Bebop now.
Oddly enough the one about eco-terrorism and ape-men is probably my favourite so far, also the music in it is pretty damned good. Tried to watch the first episode of “Berserk” and it put me off immediately. Is Samurai Champloo any good? |
Trigun is unavailable on the site I use but it has Mob Psycho 100 so I can finally see how that goes. Seph recommended it ages ago.
There has to be comedy. I like a bit of humour in my fucked up cartoons aimed at adults. |
There is a Trigun film but I don’t want to spoil anything in case it becomes available

I rewatched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners last week, not even really sure why just was kind of in the mood for it. It's such a great little series. Long enough to get invested in the characters but doesn't overstay its welcome. Love the vibe and atmosphere, it's like the best parts of what 2077 wants to be. And god bless all the Lucy cosplayers out there.
|
@seanny
Trigun movie was mid at best. Same with the bebop film. Champloo has great action but doesnt have the bite of some of the stuff that youve resonated with. Some things id recommend to you are Dororo. The recent remake on amazon. The 60s version is still beautiful but the newest run is outstanding. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Not Full Metal Alchemist. Specifically Brotherhood. The original anime was made before the manga ended so they winged it. Brotherhood is the actual vision.) Death Note. These are pretty famous shows but theyre famous for a reason. Some of my favs that i dunno if youd jive with but i wanna shout out anyways are Agama ga KILL!, Eden of the East, Gurren Lagann, The Future Diary, Soul Eater, Stien's;Gate, and Seven Deadly Sins. |
Ninja Kamui is pretty good too (the new one). You'll love the midget who talks about cock and making everyone his bitch.
|
I'm over the halfway point of season 4 of Farscape. I feel like the show peaked in seasons 2 and 3, and started to drop off once Zhaan left. Season 4, whilst it has had its moments, feels a bit lost.
I'm at the beginning of season 7 of Weeds. When I originally watched the show, years ago, I stopped after season 6. The show hasn't been funny since season 3, and Nancy has become an increasingly dislikeable character. I've persevered with it for the odd moment of brilliance it still sometimes delivers, but the show should have ended after season 3. One Farscape and Weeds are done, I'm going to watch Shogun. |
Weeds was pure pish
