Must've missed the news that Mark Grace is doing a 4 month prison sentence right now.

I still like him.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-30-2013 11:31 AM

Oh it's that deal where he gets to leave each day and only has to sleep there.

That's not even prison.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-30-2013 11:32 AM

That sounds more like a MARRIAGE to me, right guys?

RoXer 04-30-2013 12:52 PM

About Marriage:

I dunno.

RoXer 04-30-2013 01:02 PM

Yeah Daron Sutton and Mark Grace were the announce team for the Dbacks. Sutton got fired for either talking crap to and about Ken Kendrick and/or wanting to wear good clothes on the air. Gracie had his 19th DUI so he finally got locked up. He's also still considered a "legend" and a giant mascot of him along with Gonzo, RJ, and Matt Williams walks around the stadium. I think at 20 DUIs though he might be replaced by... I dunno. Brandon Webb? Craig Counsell? Who knows.

Bob Brenly replaced Grace and obviously does a great job if you're familiar with his work. Steve Barthiume is the new pbp guy and is very literally new. He hasn't done this before. Oftentimes, it shows. Dude sometimes goes crazy over a fly ball where the right fielder has to come in a few steps to catch it. He'll figure it out though.

Shane Grace might not get another TV job. Made having the Mets play on FOX a little more bearable when Grace was the color commentator rather than McCarver.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-30-2013 03:37 PM

So that's where Steve Barthiume ended up. I liked him on ESPN.

I liked Brenly on Cubs games too. He's a little dry but he's good.

Frank Drebin 04-30-2013 05:05 PM

Love Bob Brenly. Miss him in the Cubs booth. JD is good, but really got used to Bob. Very blunt and honest.

I enjoy Steve Berthiaume on D'Backs broadcasts.

Jeremy Hefner carries a 1-0 shutout into the 9th. Mets blow it in the final inning again and lose 2-1.

There's a reason why Mets fans are 100% justified in their negativity in the team.

Evil Vito 04-30-2013 10:52 PM

Bottom 9th: Miami
- C. Coghlan hit for R. Webb
- C. Coghlan singled to shallow left
- C. Coghlan to second on passed ball
- J. Pierre reached on fielder's choice, C. Coghlan to third
- B. Lyon relieved J. Hefner
- D. Solano singled to shallow right, C. Coghlan scored, J. Pierre to third
- P. Polanco intentionally walked, D. Solano to second
- J. Pierre scored, D. Solano to third, P. Polanco to second on wild pitch

You could delete the players from this and still know it was the Mets that did it.

Cubs owner threatening the team might end up moving out of Wrigley Field as a last resort if their demands for a new scoreboard don't get approved.

It was the first time during months of contentious negotiations over plans for a $500 million renovation of the 99-year-old stadium that Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts has threatened to move the team out of the lively North Side neighborhood of Wrigleyville.

"The fact is that if we don't have the ability to generate revenue in our own outfield, we'll have to take a look at moving -- no question," Ricketts told reporters after outlining renovation plans to Chicago business leaders.

Frank Drebin 05-01-2013 04:40 PM

Not going to happen. Yah, move to Rosemont where a plane will fly overhead every 10 minutes. They have a cash cow in that park if they get the renovations and "Cubs Town" that they want. The bar owners are right to balk at the proposal because the whole idea is for the Cubs to expand and capture all the business they see going on around the park before and after the game that they aren't getting. Think the Cubs are thrilled when people spend $7 for a CAN OF OLD STYLE (not joking) at Murphy's Bleachers?? Fuck No. They want to be the ones to charge that much for that shit can of beer. The Cubs have a right and I don't fault them for trying to get everything they can, but they don't seem to know how things work in the City and that no one believes them when they say they are "going to create 1,300 jobs" and all that bullshit.

They have tried to model everything they've done after the Red Sox who were/are in a similar situation to them in terms of an old park in a neighborhood. Cubs President Crane Kenny probably has a locket around his neck full of John Henry's splooge. They want to do what the Red Sox have done point by point - which means not moving from that craphole. They should have played the "moving away" card a long time ago and have shown that they don't want to move. Error. Now they don't have that play and won't get all they can as a result. People should be fired for this fuck up.

The Curse of Frank Drebin strikes again.

ClockShot 05-01-2013 04:58 PM

Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City spent $250 mil. for its renovations.

Target Field cost about $400 mil. to build.

Where the hell is the $500 mil. figure coming from JUST for renovations at Wrigley Field? Something's not adding up.

Frank Drebin 05-01-2013 05:08 PM

At first, they asked for the taxpayers to foot half the bill during a recession and the city/state almost broke. They got laughed at. Now they are going to cover the whole thing on their own in exchange for the city relaxing landmark restrictions on the park. (effectively letting them out of their deal with the rooftop owners as well)

Because its all their own cash, who knows if they are inflating that number to look better - but part of the plan is to build an entire hotel and complex around the park, so I could see how that number could be true.
