It is the U.S. version but exclusive to Capcom's online store which explains the very limited numbers they are making. It's similar to the Modern Warfare and Halo series having multiple sets.

The only bad news about the separate collector's editions and pre-orders is the DLC code isn't the same for all editions. You only get the chainsaw costume for free with the Very Limited version while the normal collector's edition doesn't have it.

Kane Knight 08-27-2010 09:26 PM

It's a shame the only thing I want in that really is the DLC. not worth the 90 dollar price tag.

First time I played Mega Man I was 21 years old and surprisingly good at it. I remember the guy who bought the Mega Man compilation was freaking out and I would just hop on and breeze through the levels.

Been playing Secret of Mana co-op with my friend since the beginning of the summer. Other than this song, the only highlights have been trying to think of somebody whose jersey number matches the amount of damage we deal with our hits and this one fucking character we named JWALL.

Xbox membership going up.

According to a post on Major Nelson's blog, after eight years' of Xbox Live at the $50 a year price point, the service is finally seeing a price hike. Starting on November 1, a year Gold subscription to Xbox Live will run $59.99, versus the current price of $49.99. One month subscriptions will jump from $7.99 to $9.99, while three month subs will rise from $19.99 to $24.99.

Other regions will be seeing increases as well. In the UK the price of one month will jump from 4.99 GPB to 5.99 GPB. The price of a month in Canada rises a dollar to $9.99. Finally, a year subscription in Mexico rises from 499 to 599 pesos.

Microsoft is running a special deal right now for North American U.S. customers, allowing them to lock in a year at $39.99, $20 less than the new rate. For details, visit the deal website.

Jesse Divnich with industry analyst EEDAR sent out a statement accompanying the news, insuring consumers that $60 is still "an incredible value."

"When originally launched in 2002, a Gold subscription cost the same as an AAA video game, $49.99. When taking into account for inflation ($50 in 2002 is roughly $60 in 2010) and the additional services available to Gold subscribers in 2010, such as ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Video Kinect, a $10 price increase still represents an incredible value to consumers"

Whether or not $60 a year is an incredible value is ultimately up to consumers. What say you, consumers?

How much do you pay, and how do we not pay retail? Or are you just full of shit?

Kane Knight 08-30-2010 05:22 PM

Amazon, newegg, buy.com, and dell frequently discount them. I paid like 32 bucks for my last live card. I'm paid up through like 2012. And the world ends before my subscription does.

Funky Fly 08-30-2010 08:01 PM

How do you check how long your live subscription is good till again?

Emperor Smeat 08-30-2010 08:14 PM

This one is for the NXE dashboard

1) Click on the Home button on the controller
2) Go to the Account Management blade (last one on the right).
3) Then click on Memberships (1st one on the list)
4) Click on your gold membership account and it will give a date.

Toys-R-Us unveiled Epic Mickey Collector's Edition for the Wii.

For $69.99, the package comes with the game, 1 decal for the Wiimote, 2 decals for the Wii itself, a bonus dvd with a "making of" and extra stuff, and a miniature Mickey statue of him holding the brush weapon.

I'm wondering if the discounts will be the same.

I'm also wondering how this impacts sales of Gold. I mean, I doubt it's gonna come close to killing it, but are we all so thoroughly their bitchest it won't make a dent in MS' wallet?

Possibly.

Microsoft set to release updated version of the Xbox 360 controller on November 9 with a new color scheme for the buttons and a "customizable" d-pad to make fighting games easier to play than on the older controller.

The only catch is the new controller will only be available with Play & Charge kits and priced at $64.99.

Final commentary regarding the 10$ used game extras thing:

The idea that THQ is somehow "disrespecting customers" with this kind of rhetoric misunderstands the situation as completely as it is possible to do so. In a literal way, when you purchase a game used, you are not a customer of theirs. If I am purchasing games in order to reward their creators, and to ensure that more of these ingenious contraptions are produced, I honestly can't figure out how buying a used game was any better than piracy. From the perspective of a developer, they are almost certainly synonymous.

It's exceedingly rare that I purchase a game from Gamestop these days. I got tired of being harangued for trying to buy products there, or being told that they didn't have a product when they did, or going across the street to Best Buy or Target or Fred Meyer and finding fifty copies of the game I was trying to buy heaped up like some heathen altar to commerce. There's more, besides. At some point in the last few years, I became incredibly uncomfortable with the used games market.

I don't think Online Codes that gate access to multiplayer are a particularly good idea, just watching the kinds of threads it generates - but that's exactly what Xbox Live does, for every game on the platform. Sony's considering codes as well, but they're getting it coming and going: they've committed themselves to a dedicated server infrastructure for first party titles, and multiplayer is "free," so a used copy of a Resistance or an Uncharted 2 is a worst case scenario. I prefer an approach along the lines of the Flashback Pack for the second Gears of War - something fun and extra, that feels like a reward. More treat than trick.

I traded in games for a long time, there's probably comics somewhere in the archive about it - you can imagine how quickly my cohort and I consume these things. It was sort of like Free Money, and we should have understood from the outset that no such thing exists. You meet one person who creates games for a living, just one, and it becomes very difficult to maintain this virtuous fiction.

Well said, even if its been said here before by Kalyx the hypocrite.

alvarado52 08-31-2010 11:55 PM

Its a no brainer really. The developer only sees the revenue when purchased new. Maybe if they somehow negotiated some sort of percentage for used, they may relax on the 'code' thing.

I kinda think it will swing that way eventually, because it appears every company is adopting some sort of restriction for used games that come with a new via 'online code'.

Its gonna get to the point where people wont buy used because it will cost equal or more compared to a new game, and Gamestop or other game stores gain about 80% of their earned rev selling used.

Kalyx triaD 08-31-2010 11:59 PM

Whether people buy used games are up to how Gamestop handles it. I still think they should lower used game prices to undercut the codes and support their customers (and get massive PR cooz).

Unless those stock used game covers with the bad character art costs way more to print then we give it credit for.

Emperor Smeat 09-01-2010 12:07 AM

Would not matter how low Gamestop or other stores drop used prices since developers and publishers have stated their intent of used games are a type of piracy even though this generation they are able to make some lost money back from DLC, avatar stuff, and collector's editions.

They're not in the business of making some money back; "DLC, avatar stuff, and collector's editions" are money on top of projected returns. And even if something was designed to recoup revenue, they really shouldn't have to. It's not like a used game market was their idea to begin with.

Gamestop lowered the price on a lot of used EA sports games.

Funky Fly 09-01-2010 01:40 AM

As much as consumers are "bastards" for buying used, developers should "not make middle-of-the-road games" if they really want to take a bite out of the used market. I buy used if it's an old title, a rare title that appears in the used section, a title that won't drop in price for whatever reason (eg KoF 12, GH 5) or if it's a title that's kinda interesting, but not worthy of $70.

Kalyx triaD 09-01-2010 02:02 AM

Perhaps a 'DVD memory used' quota that determines price.

Or is that too much regulation?

PS3 games would become the most expensive to buy since majority of its games need to have the game data written twice to make up for the slow disc speeds on the PS3.

Could also become a problem where a developer squeezes in unnecessary data just to reach the next tier in order to charge more.

Kalyx triaD 09-01-2010 02:49 AM

A system would reveal the clowns in the industry, I think.

Like, I think we'd be able to spot shenanigans like the ones you mentioned.

#BROKEN Hasney 09-01-2010 09:01 AM

It would also be retarded. Companies just wouldn't compress certain assets and claim it's for quality.
