Been listening to a lot of JR's and Jericho's podcast lately on my way to work, they are pretty decent despite the terrible ads.

The ads and the "keep our podcast free" stuff. Makes the site seem like a scam to keep pushing it.

I've had that chat with Jericho, but it's legit. Obviously there's production costs and staff to pay. Without the ads etc it would could cost him money to do the show, and he'd have to charge. And he doesn't want to do that.

Volare 08-27-2014 03:20 AM

Sadly you hear too much bs about the major corps that ones actually doing the right thing get the bad rap.

XL 08-27-2014 03:27 AM

Jericho's show is great but features a lot of guests I'm not all that interested in (music guys mostly) but JR's is very repetitive, seems to make the same points every week. Also, with those 2 and Austin's twice a week, and Cabana's a lot if the guests are popping up multiple times. This week for example, Austin did an interview with JR that I'm not that interested in because I know that Ross will be banging on about the same stuff he uses his own podcast for.

I was just listening to Jericho, Edge and Heyman part two and they advertised your podcast as next weeks one. Had to laugh when he warned the listeners of your thick accent.

Maybe it would be different if they weren't all pitching the same stuff. Having 3x the ads for Draft Kings and DDP Yoga.

Tazz Dan 08-27-2014 04:06 AM

You realise that they can't just advertise anybody? That these people need to be onboard with it? And if nobody else offers or accepts, then they work with who they have.

Needs more people voting in this. If you haven't already, please do, we need a clear-cut winner, and there's currently a three-way tie. Green dot will be passed out to those who vote.

The Extreme era of ECW began today in 1994.

20 years ago today in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Shane Douglas defeats 2 Cold Scorpio in the finals of a one-night tournament to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. The story wasn't what went down with the match or the tournament (which featured the ECW debuts of Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Osamu Nishimura). Post-match, Douglas, at the time the Eastern Championship Wrestling heavyweight champion, ran down the NWA and threw down its world title belt, and declared himself the ECW World Heavyweight Champion. NWA's Dennis Coraluzzo was in attendance at the show and was left in a state of confusion as ECW, which would change its name to Extreme Championship Wrestling in the days following the shocking actions, officially broke away from the NWA. In interviews since then, Paul Heyman admitted that he was one of only three men who knew what would go down that fateful day: himself, Douglas, and ECW commissioner Tod Gordon). In a side note, on the same show, Cactus Jack and Mikey Whipwreck defeated Public Enemy to win the ECW World Tag Team Championship.

I agree. He single handedly brought down my interest level for the show.

Watching Victory Road 2007. Rhino vs. James Storm in a feud about alcoholism.

XL 08-27-2014 06:34 PM

Now we have MCMG (with Kevin Nash) vs. Jerry Lynn & Bob Backlund.

I remember watching TNA when this aired, which means I've followed the promotion for at least 7 years. Seems kinda crazy.

I liked that angle

XL 08-27-2014 06:44 PM

Yeah, it was pretty decent. If I recall it went on a little too long and didn't really go anywhere beyond an arbitrary gimmick match.

There has been talk within WWE for about 6-8 weeks that John Cena is still having problems with his shoulder but is now having more problems with his neck. These are longterm nagging issues that Cena has been dealing with.
It was also said that there are a lot of people within WWE keeping an eye on Cena to see where he will be going forward in regards to acting and not wrestling as much.

There are also people within WWE who say Cena appears to be in pain and they believe Cena has has slowed down physically in the way he moves.

XL 08-27-2014 07:00 PM

Were "these people" Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair?

#1-norm-fan 08-27-2014 08:02 PM

Cena never actually wrestling on Raw and maybe just competing in some quick, not so physically demanding dark matches after the show goes off the air for the crowd would be good for him all around.

The status of WWE's stable with Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods has been a hot topic among fans this week. The group has been used at recent WWE live events and in dark matches, both as heels and babyfaces.

The members of the group have been told that they will still be used together in the future. WWE officials are trying to figure out how the group will be presented and how they want to move forward with it.

Raw's original plans were supposed to be this according to the Observer:

There were a number of other changes. The package with Lesnar and Heyman that they played was originally earmarked for the 9/1 show, not the 8/25 show.

Also, Rusev vs. Swagger was not on the original Raw script as the plan was to put Cesaro vs. Swagger for the U.S title shot, which Cesaro would win, with the same Dallas follow-up.

Reason for the Cena change and probably why Cena will never turn heel later got explained by the Observer.

There is always the chance that Cena will get hotter as a ticket seller with a heel turn. Historically, with the exception of Hogan (whose merch sales were dead when he made the turn), modern era top babyface turns didn’t work unless you have the hotter babyface on the rise (like Austin was with Bret Hart when they did the double turn) ...

If Bryan, or Reigns, or someone, is at the point as champion where they are outdrawing Cena and selling at close to the same level, you could consider a turn, but even then, you still have the issues where Make-a-Wish and other corporate partners who bank on Cena as a spokesperson or face would get upset. But today, with no Punk, no Bryan, and Reigns months from being ready, any suggestion of turning him today is up there with the ill-fated Austin turn ...

When the new characters are at the point they are carrying the ball, and Reigns may already be on track getting there, you absolutely could consider a Cena turn from a wrestling standpoint. But perhaps Make-a-Wish changes the game and it won’t happen even when the storyline time down the line could be right.
