Supreme Olajuwon 04-09-2022 07:12 PM

I fully believe that there are bots on social media pushing anti AEW agenda. That seems obvious. But what it completely ignores is the undeniably large population of obsessive internet weirdos on the autism spectrum who spend all their waking hours focused on one topic.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-09-2022 07:12 PM

You can’t tell me it’s a small group of people. We’re a pretty small wrestling community here and we have at least two.

Mr. Nerfect 04-09-2022 07:13 PM

All those matches sound boring. AEW is boring.

Tony is with JR at UFC tonight. Kinda squashes my theory that JR "hates him secretly".

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-10-2022 06:23 AM

lol good luck with that

GD 04-10-2022 06:31 AM

xrod's not as bad as Noid but they're both incorrigible at this point.

Evil Vito 04-10-2022 09:32 AM

Noid thought Danielson vs Suzuki was unwatchable. Do you realize how much you have to fucking hate wrestling now to get to that point?

I honestly feel sorry for him that he apparently can’t find any other passions in his life that he enjoys more than dumping on an entertainment medium he stopped finding any enjoyment in probably close to a decade ago.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-10-2022 09:48 AM

Here's a secret: didn't love Suzuki vs Danielson.

I LOVE Danielson and have liked all his other AEW matches I've seen. Just think the "standing and waiting to get hit" spots are fucking moronic and that was most of the match. Can deal with them in short spurts but when the whole thing is "we're tough men who like getting hit," it's dumb.

That said, I'd watch AEW a million times over WWE. For all the indy bollocks that I don't care for, at least they're trying to make something fun. Really don't like the audience though. There's something very deflating about looking out into the crowd and seeing no diversity. All the same sort of people you'd see at a wrestle-con and nothing else. They need to broaden their appeal beyond "we're the super indies."

#1-norm-fan 04-10-2022 09:50 AM

I still remember when xrod called Kenny Omega Noid’s “boy” because Noid disagreed with him about Seth Rollins. Lol

Noid clearly knows xrod is ridiculous but he has to act like he’s a genius because they have the same agenda and he’s desperate for an ally. Meanwhile he claims to be an honest guy just trying to discuss things “in good faith”. For that reason alone, I put Noid below xrod.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-10-2022 09:54 AM

For all its flaws, I liked how the attitude era attracted all kinds of fans. You'd have the college kids trying to be edgy, long-time wrasslin fans, families w/kids etc.

Go back even further to before the Hogan era (and the very beginning of it) and it's a real mishmash at house shows, especially. Fun atmosphere.

I look into the AEW audience and it's a bunch of people who look like they only leave their basement to go to the AEW show. And they all do their stupid fucking chants. That's not particularly appealing to the overall aesthetic of the show.

Don't get me wrong--there's nothing wrong with being a basement-dwelling fan. It's just lame when it's all that I see.

They seem to suffer from the WWE problem of not actually knowing how to be cool. Which I guess is a problem many of us have.

#1-norm-fan 04-10-2022 09:56 AM

College kids used to have weekly wrestling watching parties on Monday nights. Seems insane now. Lol

Bad News Gertner 04-10-2022 10:18 AM

Those Nitro Parties do seem crazy nowadays. Brilliant idea by WCW.

Fignuts 04-10-2022 11:13 AM

Yeah, Suzuki is a bit of a novelty but the guy is too old and beat up to give the kind of performance that would make these dream matches live up to the hype.

Interestingly, it was the “coolness” of the nWo that kinda hurt wrestling a lot. When everyone is trying super hard to be cool there comes a point that nobody’s cool anymore. Hard to find the balance.

Yeah. I’ve seen some stuff from Suzuki I liked in New Japan. Maybe from 2013/2014. He had an aura about him. In the context of Danielson/Suzuki from AEW, he looked smaller. And the psychology in that match was fucking shit. Two idiots standing around wanting to get hit as hard as they can by another guy is just stupid. Try to win your actual match, please. I turned off Danielson/Suzuki, if I recall, when Danielson lent into a blow from Suzuki that dropped him like a sack of shit. Just horrible.

Danielson, himself, is talented as fuck. Among my favorites. But he’s got that “too nice” thing and can be his own worst enemy. Plenty of other great things in wrestling that aren’t the white noise of two dudes slapping each other as hard as they can for no reason.

Mr. Nerfect 04-10-2022 01:38 PM

I’ve been enjoying the fuck out of FTR. And WWE programming hasn’t sucked as much as it can recently. But don’t try and dismiss me because I don’t like stupid shit like Suzuki/Danielson, lol. That shit isn’t for everyone. It’s why no one watches AEW.

You have to like exactly everything about AEW, or you are a bot. That has been proven, backed up by independent studies you know!

Mr. Nerfect 04-10-2022 02:37 PM

It’s just the irony that it’s the same people who whinge about “you won’t let us enjoy things” are actually trying to impose their tastes. Like what you like, but there’s room for discussion as to whether it is good or effective or to everyone’s tastes. And that’s fine. It’s okay not to like something.

Fignuts 04-10-2022 04:24 PM

Suzuki is weird, because even a few years ago, he was still having bangers. Its like one day he woke up, and his age and all the years of abuse he put on his body hit him all it once.

Does this need a poll? :?:

#1-norm-fan 04-10-2022 05:11 PM

I’ve stated my case for Noid but Xrod posts more and that might give him the edge.

#1-norm-fan 04-10-2022 05:16 PM

(Noid’s gonna suddenly post in a few minutes by the way to try to bury that post/pretend he’s got me on ignore…)

That is probably the reality. New Japan gets mythologized too. A lot of people pretend that it’s better than it is (in many cases). Gedo’s great though, and he covers a lot of stuff up. So it’s possible that Suzuki’s gaps get noticed way more as he does freelancing work too. That wouldn’t explain a New Japan slip, but sometimes once you see something you can’t unsee it. It’s also possible that Gedo’s focus on him has changed, as well as his performances slipping with age.

The best we can hope for in wrestling is moments. Nobody is going to put out "The Wire" of pro wrestling.

Ol Dirty Dastard 04-10-2022 06:21 PM

Entirely creatively fulfilling pro wrestling relies on kayfabe. Just not possible nowadays.

Yeah which is why it's all about moments now. Moments like Austin and KO had, or when Austin came out to confront McMahon. Moments like Wheeler bleeding his head off coming an inch closer with each attempt or reversal in his match with Mox, or moments like FTR challenging a perfect match in The Briscoes at Supercard of Honor.

It's tough to convince me that "everyone here" loved Wrestlemania beginning to end, but I know that those who watched it had moments of fandom that reminded you of the best of times.

I think AEW does that for a lot of people because they have an attachment to ROH/PWG/NXT talents, because that's essentially the sum of the roster at AEW. Maybe Noid and Xrod just never got into that scene therefore they don't care about the turbo charged anime style that Kenny and Kota use, or the slam dunk comic book style of The Young Bucks. It's fine. It shouldn't challenge anyone who may have a different opinion to evaluate your own perception of things.

I may be in the minority as an AEW watcher, but I haven't seen much of ROH or NXT, except for a few smattering of ROH and NXT highlights/portions of shows/matches I saw, usually because we were watching some old WWE and they wanted me to see something specific from ROH or NXT that I'd never seen. Probably less than 20 hours total of ROH and NXT combined honestly, but I vastly prefer AEW over anything WWE is putting out. I don't even know WTF PWG is.

I will admit I somehow timed it just right and caught the start of both the Cody/Rollins match and Austin/KO live but didn't see anything else. It only happened because my wife and I happened to be re-watching Suits on Peacock and she fell asleep and I remembered that Austin was going to appear at WM. Didn't watch any of Sunday night. It was the first and only WWE stuff I've seen in probably almost 2 years now. The last things I remember seeing from WWE prior are Edge at the empty arena pandemic Mania match and the Austin empty arena Raw appearance sometime either (?) right before or sometime not too long after that. Even prior to that, my WWE watching was so limited/sparse I couldn't tell you what I actually watched before those two. As good as the 2 matches of this years WM I saw were, nothing happened that made me want to tune in to see what happened after. That's the problem.

AEW is far from perfect but they keep me entertained/interested enough to check it out 3 hours a week and the quarterly PPV most of the time.

puroresu fan 04-11-2022 03:36 AM

I don't want to watch Joe vs Suzuki. What is so special about Suzuki? He looks mean and loses a lot. How is he any better than Happy Corbin?

Mr. Nerfect 04-11-2022 03:43 AM

In many ways, he’s not. If Corbin went to Japan and hit guys with forearms on the side of the neck really hard, he’d be considered one of the best wrestlers in the world.

puroresu fan 04-11-2022 03:54 AM

Correct. Corbin is the safest wrestler in the company. That's important than being a stiff bastard. Everyone forgot how Goldberg ended Hitman's career?

Mr. Nerfect 04-11-2022 05:14 AM

Has Corbin ever hurt anyone or done anything really reckless?

puroresu fan 04-11-2022 07:26 AM

He hasn't hurt anyone but he went broke because of his reckless spending.

Jordan 04-11-2022 09:41 AM

Moxley isn't leaving AEW!!!! HE LIKES IT THERE

Evil Vito 04-11-2022 09:57 AM

Dude wrote AT LENGTH in his book about how miserable he was in the last couple of years of his WWE run and part of the internet have still convinced themselves he's gonna go back lol.

At absolute most I could see him being content just freelancing for the rest of the career but AEW basically let him do that already outside of Wednesdays.

Shit before COVID, Mox was flying to Japan just to do one match over the weekend and fly back. If they get rid of their border restrictions he might be doing more of that. He's a madman.

Jordan 04-11-2022 10:48 AM

Mox is one of the greatest in the world! Mox will live forever in AEW! FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER AND EVER FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER....
