Doubt they are legit "IPs" unless they are just script kids that don't know wtf they are doing. DDoS is not difficult to generate and there are TONS of programs with pretty GUI's that allow users to execute an attack in a few mouse clicks.

None the less, still on XBL having a good time. Remember, if you pizza when you're supposed to french fry - not gonna have a good time m'kay?

Could just be someone who was pissed off they couldn't play on PSN or other affected services like last time PSN got a major hack attack.

Last time it ended up being a group that splintered away from the larger Annoys group that hacked a lot of places a few years ago. That splinter group was only upset at Sony being attacked and later went after the larger group as well as Nintendo and Microsoft in a "revenge" attack.

Not saying it's true because 99.9% likelihood it isn't, but what if it turned out to that Lizard Fags were paid by MS to hack Sony? Would be super hilarious.

That is not entirely true. A DDoS attack from one source is utterly useless. You have to either have a pretty massive botnet for this type of attack or you have to have access to a large portion of the cloud and spin up a bunch of VMs in order to run the attack.

Sure, there are pretty programs that let you launch the attack, but having the necessary infrastructure in place to make the attack succeed is a pain in the ass. Requires either a lot of patience and programming knowledge or a fair bit of money to pay for the required elements.

If it was as easy as you make it sound, every disgruntled script kiddie on the interwebs would be spoofing their IP and routing themselves through a couple dozen proxies and constantly DDoSing everything to hell and the internet would just never work.

Yea seems these hackers are morons, tbh. They bitch about Sony not using more profits to better the PSN experience for it's users. But who are they hurting with their attack? The users they are supposedly 'fighting' for; I could be playing on PSN right now if it wasn't for them and that's not the fault of Sony.

Microsoft would probably want their money back. Xbox Live was the next to get attacked today although so far just the Xbox 360 side was affected according to Game Informer.

It really is easy. You have a group of like-minded individuals get together, it is not difficult at all to get a sizeable network in place in a 30 day timeframe.

Also, those like minded individuals would clearly already have the knowledge needed or else they wouldn't plan it from the get go. I legit lol'd at using "proxies" for IP spoofing, unless you mean something different than using a service as a proxy.

The biggest issue is so called "script kiddies" not having the required know-how and therefore never really getting "into a group" if you will, that would execute said attacks. DDoS really is entry level hacking, it is far from difficult to achieve. I believe you may underestimate the black hat crowd of the world.

Never had any issues on either console. The last outage that actually sucked was right around when Titanfall launched.

I was referring to spoofing and routing through proxies as 2 separate things. Routing through 'proxies' in order to make it more difficult/take more time to fully trace; spoofing the IP as a last resort so if anyone fully traces the attack they get a bogus IP returned and not a legit one.

I'm aware I'm not using the term proxy correctly; old terminology me and a few of my associates used like 12-13 years ago when we were super awesome script kiddies 4 lyfe. We referred to every single different node we routed through as a proxy; i.e. if we routed through 25 different nodes, we said 25 proxies. Because we were 31337. And stuff.

Botnets were much more difficult back in those days. Spent so much time on mIRC on sorcery.net. We ran a couple respectable DDoS attacks though in the end, and it was worth it to us at the time.

Sepholio 08-24-2014 09:45 PM

Node sounds much cooler now.

GaymerX (rebranding as GX, since it's not just for gay gamers) launched a Kickstarter today to fund their third annual convention.

On one hand, I'm going to pledge to the Kickstarter, since I'll go to the convention and have a good time. On the other hand, it seems kinda ridiculous that they need to have another Kickstarter.

Rather not anything be taken down. By hackers. The Sony thinh was fucked up.

Fignuts 08-25-2014 09:23 PM

Bit worried about Mirror's Edge 2 with news that it focuses a lot more on combat. The combat was a legit complaint in the first game, as it broke the flow of the parkour movement and broke your momentum.

Only bright spot is that they said you can chain moves together to bounce from one guy to the next. So if you can take down a group of guys without losing speed, I'd accept that, but I dunno. Need to see it in action.

Kalyx triaD 08-26-2014 01:07 PM

So like an 'auto-lock-chain combo' thing? That can get old quick if not done with a fair degree of freedom to the player. I'd need to see a proof of concept. Worked great in the Arkham series, but in a first person viewpoint while trying maintain a sense of momentum?

I'd be impressed if they nailed it.

Drakul 08-26-2014 01:39 PM

Coming to Japanese arcades next year. Hoping it makes it to Wii U.
It's being aimed towards adult fans.

Sepholio 08-26-2014 07:52 PM

Picked up The Golf Club today. Mainly just for the course editor/infinite replayability stuff. Pretty cool, tbh. Graphics are a bit rough at times due to slowdown on certain over populated courses available online, but it is a decently pretty game otherwise.

But let me say this: This ain't no Tiger Woods. This is a serious golf sim, and it is seriously hard. Hardest golf game I've ever played. Putting makes me want to pull my hair out. However, if you want a serious sim golf experience, look no further. Well worth $35.

Fignuts 08-26-2014 08:06 PM

If I wanted a golf game that serious, I would just play golf.

Fignuts 08-26-2014 10:09 PM

Feel like I've enjoyed the Live Arcade titles way more than most of the on disc titles.

Drakul 08-27-2014 12:07 PM

New Gamertag.

Neon Morrigan.

Morrigan is the Celtic goddess of war/battle which is awesome. Neon is cool and has a "nightlife" association to it for me. Morrigan also doubles as the name of the sexy succubus in Darkstalkers. Win/win!

Sounds hot;)

Drakul 08-28-2014 02:51 AM

I thought my post would be ignored or I'd get a "Blah, I preferred your old Gamertag." post.
If the hotness comment is a lighthearted poke then :p. If it's sincere :naughty:.

Thinking about it, that'll be why the voice actor for the character Morrigan in MvC3 did a Scottish accent.
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/f65JVRLG4HI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The accent in the video is getting a bit of hate. Either because some people believe every character in fiction should be American, her Scottish accent isn't good or Japanese is superior to English for voice acting (Japanese VA sucks. They have, like, 6 possible voices they reuse for every character ever! Old man, young hero, Mr Serious Face McGee, giggling cute schoolgirl, seductive lady, monster/brute. That's it.)

I think the Scottish accent was done very well for a Welsh woman living in America doing a Scottish accent. Yeah, it's goes a bit wonky somtimes but it's much better than any attempted Scottish accent on The Simpsons. Yes, even Groundskeeper Willies accent is awful.

I especially like her maniacal laugh. Sounds just like the Japanese one in the old Darkstalkers games.
Whoever wrote the "Good's not bad but bad is better." line is a genius btw.

Poit 08-28-2014 03:17 AM

I'm used to the Morrigan being portrayed as the Celtic deity of death, not battle/war, but that's probably because that's how she's represented in one of my favorite fantasy series. :p

Drakul 08-28-2014 03:27 AM

She's multiple. War, death and I've blanked on the others but I know there are 4 or 5 things she's said to be the goddess of.

Edit: Looked it up. War, birth, dead, rivers and lakes. She could be more.

Poit 08-28-2014 03:34 AM

Apparently she gets around.

Drakul 08-28-2014 04:02 AM

It was common practice to have a god or goddess associated with multiple things. Most Celtic deities had multiple things. Epona was the goddess of horses, hence Zelda having Links horse be called Epona, but she was the goddess of fertility to.
