I doubt this will last forever. It's only a matter of time before things get 'Heroes Return'd, or whatever that Marvel thing was in the 90's.

Kalyx triaD 01-25-2012 10:02 PM

So details of the Green Arrow show, "Arrow", is out. Sounds... cool?

Rammsteinmad 01-27-2012 08:25 PM

No it doesn't. It's DC and it isn't Batman or Superman. Nobody cares.

Kalyx triaD 01-27-2012 08:44 PM

That was said about Iron Man four years ago.

Rammsteinmad 01-27-2012 09:24 PM

Batman and Superman were in Marvel?

Kalyx triaD 01-27-2012 10:08 PM

I was saying in terms of C-list heroes.

Rammsteinmad 01-28-2012 04:14 PM

How dare you call Iron Man c-list.

Kalyx triaD 01-28-2012 05:46 PM

Wouldn't have batted an eye before the first movie.

Rammsteinmad 01-28-2012 06:17 PM

As a comic reader and collector since 1993, I can assure you that is totally not true.

Captain of Fun 01-28-2012 07:03 PM

Iron Man is B-List.

mitchables 01-29-2012 04:10 AM

yeah before his film, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who really rated iron man higher than a b at best. sorry rammsteinmartin.

Rammsteinmad 01-29-2012 05:55 AM

Meh, I understand. B-list sounds alright, but C-list? Come on the guy was one of the main Avengers since forever.

Ah whatever, I don't really care anyway lol. The whole point is that this 'Arrow' show will likely suck because it's DC and it isn't Batman and Superman. :p

mitchables 01-29-2012 07:59 AM

hey

watch it.

i happen to really like green arrow. my gf and i even cosplayed arrow and canary for a con last year. so shut up. it could be great.

mitchables 01-29-2012 08:00 AM

had to paint on the goatee though because I CAN'T GROW FACIAL HAIR :'(

Rammsteinmad 01-29-2012 09:31 AM

Hawkeye > Green Arrow.

It's on now. :foc:

Lock Jaw 01-29-2012 01:13 PM

Green Arrow > Hawkeye

But either way, I don't really care for either of them.

Love both.
It depends who is writing each character.
Both can be made boring as fuck.

Lock Jaw 02-02-2012 02:33 AM

So, a series of Watchmen Prequel comics are now confirmed.

Quote:

The news comes after months of rumors, leaked art and speculation. Starting this summer, the lineup of seven miniseries, dubbed Before Watchmen, includes:

RORSCHACH (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo

MINUTEMEN (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn Cooke

COMEDIAN (6 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: J.G. Jones

DR. MANHATTAN (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artist: Adam Hughes

NITE OWL (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artists: Andy and Joe Kubert

OZYMANDIAS (6 issues) – Writer: Len Wein. Artist: Jae Lee

SILK SPECTRE (4 issues) – Writer: Darwyn Cooke. Artist: Amanda Conner

The first Watchmen-related comic book material released since the original series, a new Before Watchmen issue will be released weekly, with each containing a two-page Curse of the Crimson Corsair back-up written by Len Wein and illustrated by John Higgins. Both creators worked on the original Watchmen, Wein as editor and Higgins as colorist. The initiative will be wrapped with a Before Watchmen: Epilogue one-shot by various creators.
So, in essence, by the end there will be more prequel material than the original series.

Nowhere Man 02-03-2012 02:21 AM

Well, that pretty much tears it. I'm done with DC.

Destor 02-03-2012 02:37 AM

Here's a quote from Straczynski on the subject of Alan Moore's complaints about these prequels being made: "I get it. But by the same token, Alan has spent most of the last decade writing some very, very good stories about characters created by other writers, including Alice (from Wonderland), Dorothy (from Oz), Wendy (from Peter Pan), as well as Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Jekyll and Hyde and Professor Moriarty. I think one loses a little of the moral high ground to say, "I can write characters created by Jules Verne, HG Wells, Robert Louis Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle and Frank Baum, but it's wrong for anyone else to write my characters."

Nowhere Man 02-03-2012 02:40 AM

Yeah, but none of those authors were around to say 'no.' So JMS is full of shit.

Plus, there's a big difference between doing an adaptation and just saying "Hey, we're taking your story and slapping a bunch of extra bullshit onto it, and there's nothing you can do about it. So nyah."

Destor 02-03-2012 02:41 AM

so when he dies it's fair game? double standards.

Nowhere Man 02-03-2012 02:45 AM

Well when he dies, he can't make a living off of his work anymore, so yeah, I'd say it would be fair game at that point.

Destor 02-03-2012 02:50 AM

he cant make a living off watchmen now, he doesnt own it.

Nowhere Man 02-03-2012 03:08 AM

Okay, you're right in that aspect. DC owns the rights and can technically do whatever they want with it, no matter how much of a shameless and artistically bankrupt cash-grab it may be.

However, it's still a massive slap in the face to exploit the guy's work against his will. And yes, if all of the writers that Moore pulled from were around to say 'no' when he pulled from them and he did it anyway, I'd be calling him just as much of an asshole as I'm calling JMS. Though at least Moore had the decency to do an alternate interpretation of their works.

alls im sayin is moore is a hypocrit and these prequels will prolly suck. *shrug*

Nowhere Man 02-03-2012 03:37 AM

Oh, the prequels will almost definitely suck, I agree with you there.

Well....the ones by Azzarello might be good, but it still doesn't change the fact that none of them need to be made.

Captain of Fun 02-03-2012 11:40 AM

I don't really think this makes Moore a hypocrite. The important thing, as NM said,is that moore's work was adaptations, while DC is fucking with the original work.

That is a huge difference, in my opinion.

Lock Jaw 02-03-2012 05:32 PM

Technically they are doing nothing to the original work. You can read the original work and still enjoy it all you want.

Captain of Fun 02-04-2012 06:51 PM

You know what I mean, you daft poofter.

Lock Jaw 02-04-2012 07:02 PM

Meh. If anything, it is kudos for DC for holding out as long as they did. They've been trying for years and years to get Moore on board for something, if not as writer, then as "producer" or "overseer" or whatever. So they have finally given up and are now doing this before memory of the movie goes away entirely.

Smallville Season 11 Comic:

http://wb.cdn.warnerbros.com/dcublog...2-704x1024.jpg

Essentially a new Superman series in the Smallville continuity. Same deal as the Buffy comics.

Lock Jaw 02-26-2012 03:09 PM

Just watched Justice League: Doom. It was decent. I didn't follow any of the news about it since it was announced, so I was hoping for a more faithful adaptation of Tower of Babel.

As it is...

SPOILER: show
The only thing adapted was the idea that Batman has contingency plans against the JLA members. Ra's Al Ghul is not in the movie, nor is the Tower of Babel.

Lock Jaw 02-26-2012 03:10 PM

Also, just realized that Smallville Superman is not wearing the underpants outside of his uniform. I AM BLINDED BY RAGE.

Kalyx triaD 02-27-2012 01:56 PM

Gotta see it.

Nark Order 02-27-2012 09:03 PM

Man, I've been reading some of the new 52 series and I'm pretty confused, but still blown away. Love what I've been reading so far but some of the timelines are really confusing. Who's timelines are included and who's aren't. Some are completely changed but others like Barbara Gordon are pretty much continuing into the same timeline, just some things have changed (a "miracle" happened and now she isn't paralyzed.

Wish I had a chart or something to explain. Sheesh.

Kalyx triaD 02-27-2012 09:18 PM

Give up on a coherent explanation and enjoy it for what it is, I say.

Nark Order 02-27-2012 10:19 PM

FYI, if you haven't been reading Batgirl, you probably should. Such a different take on being a superhero IMO. Think a bunch of Batman fans may have boycotted the series when it was announced because how shoddy her paralysis cure was explained (or not explained), but it is a wonderful series thus far. Seeing Barbara try to get back out and fight crime with the fear of being severely hurt again always on her mind is a bit compelling. She probably shouldn't have returned so quickly but she thrusted herself right into the middle of it again.

PRETTY COOL GUYS

Lock Jaw 02-27-2012 11:46 PM

I like it, but not as much as I was enjoying Stephanie Brown as Batgirl.

honestly i was enjoying the whole dynamic of the 'new' bat family more than anything that had happened in the previous few years. dick + damian as batman and robin, tim as red robin, basically filling the nightwing role, steph as batgirl... the whole thing was awesome. and then they just went and stuck to the status quo.

i love bruce and all, but he is so grim all the time. the mix of dick and damian was wonderful. c'est la vie.

Lock Jaw 02-29-2012 07:53 PM

Yeah. Me too.

The current Nightwing series is alright and all, but every time I read it I am just like "Man, I miss him as Batman".

Also, Damian has seemed "off" in The New 52. Have not really enjoyed him at all.

Nowhere Man 03-02-2012 12:46 PM

So apparently as part of the New 52's "Second Wave," we're also getting an Earth-2 Superman.

Quote:

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

By Josh Kushins

Coming in May, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave” will literally expand the world-building efforts of the comprehensive publishing initiative. With the addition of a parallel Earth that features prominently into both EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST, the developing narrative will encompass new heroes from distinctly different backgrounds, building on the shared universe in some surprising ways.

“Mourning the death of his beloved, Superman carries both a sadness in his heart along with the weight of Earth 2′s welfare upon on his shoulders, while never showing this and seeming to all that he is this world’s peerless champion,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson.

“What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

Here’s a first look at the Superman of EARTH 2, designed by Jim Lee.

So......Lois is dead and Superman is going crazy. That could be interesting, but in all likelihood will just be a flimsy excuse to do a comic where Superman kills people. And besides, there are already a fair amount of "crazy Superman" comics out there, like Irredeemable or pretty much everything Marvel did with Sentry.

Gotta say, though, I really dig the Earth-2 costume:

http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/files/2...an-Earth-2.jpg

That looks so much better than the Earth-1 design that it honestly makes me angry.

Lock Jaw 03-02-2012 01:10 PM

Dunno. I was all excited for Earth-2, but it looks like it is going to be a pile of crap. I loved everything to do with Earth-2 pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths. I love the Justice Society of America.

It looks like they are doing their best to make Earth-2 also be all "gritty" and full of crappy redesigns. I shudder to think what Alan Scott is going to look like (though I don't know if it can be worse than the redesign he got just before Flashpoint).

Lock Jaw 03-06-2012 12:09 AM

Apparently this is what Jay Garrick is gonna look like:

Lock Jaw 03-07-2012 12:55 AM

Though I have heard that they have given up even trying to call him Captain Marvel now. Will just call him "Shazam".

Lock Jaw 03-07-2012 01:30 AM

Just went to try to go to the DC Comics Message Board and see what kind of backlash Jay Garrick's costume is getting.

Turns out DC has completely revamped their website into the opposite of what it used to be (use friendly, easy to find things) and seem to have done away with the message boards entirely for now.

Kalyx triaD 03-07-2012 02:25 AM

I bet.

Nark Order 03-07-2012 07:58 PM

On a slightly happier note, Swamp Thing and Animal Man are going to have a crossover in may I think. If those two series are any indication of the quality of the crossover, it's going to be fucking incredible. Ties in perfectly with the ongoing battle of the Green vs The Red vs The Rot as well. Pretty pumped.

SPOILER: show
Picked up Swamp Thing #7 today and marked the fuck out. Incredible to see Alec as the Swamp Thing again finally. Really love what they did with him basically failing the Green and them blaming him for the defeat. I'm pretty hooked from here on out.

I also recently got into All Star Western and it is so much better than I originally thought it would be. Good to see Jonah whipping ass in an interesting story and environment. think I'm probably in for the long haul on this one as well.

Kalyx triaD 03-09-2012 05:16 PM

Wait til you guys see Earth-2 Power Girl. E2 Batman is kinda cool.

Smallville Season 11 #1 Cover:

http://i.newsarama.com/images/smallville_cover_1_02.jpg

Since DCnU got started art across the board got really wonky.

Nowhere Man 03-09-2012 06:09 PM

He's got a look on his face that says "I just got a really shitty present from my grandma, but I don't want her to feel bad so I'll smile about it anyway. No, really, Gamgam, it's a wonderful sweater. Of course I'll wear it to work."

Edit: Holy shit, I just realized that's drawn by Gary Frank. I loved his previous run on Action Comics, but jeezus. He draws Supes as Christopher Reeve a thousand times better than as Tom Welling (then again, that may be because Superman was a thousand times better as Christopher Reeve than as Tom Welling)

Kalyx triaD 03-09-2012 06:11 PM

DC's dead serious about the 'no trunks on Superman' thing. Didn't think they'd apply it to every possible version.

Lock Jaw 03-09-2012 06:24 PM

HATE NO TRUNKS SO MUCH

Nowhere Man 03-09-2012 07:36 PM

Seriously, the more they propagate the no-trunks look, the more it sticks out just how.....wrong.....it looks. Making the belt red and yellow doesn't change the fact that there's too much blue below the waistline and it makes the whole costume look bland.

And the more seams and plates and Nike-Under-Armor speed lines they put on the costume, the thicker it looks, and the less convincing it is that it could possibly fit under Clark Kent's clothing without bulging out (and yes, I know the boots and cape and belt would do that anyway).

I get that normal people don't wear old circus strongman trunks outside their pants, but normal people also don't wear brightly colored spandex and a big red cape. Quit changing shit just for the sheer sake of changing shit.

Nowhere Man 03-10-2012 12:26 AM

Comics Alliance had a great article on one of the flagship titles of the DCnU, entitled "Justice League is Everything Wrong With Comics." That may be an exaggeration, but it is still a pretty damning piece:

So they're doing an animated version of the famous Action Comics #775:, aka "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" Re-titled simply as Superman vs The Elite.

Looks pretty good, but I'm a little worried that a lot of the character moments from the comic are going to be overlooked in favor of extended action sequences, like what they did to Tower of Babel when it became Justice League: Doom. Still, Action 775 is an amazing comic, so hopefully the adaptation will be up to snuff:

http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/74905...tml#id=1681043

Also, at least DC still allows the animated Superman to wear his damn trunks.

Kalyx triaD 03-15-2012 05:15 PM

Fucking love George Newburn doing Superman's voice again. I can't decide if I like him more than Tim Daly (and neither can Kevin Conroy).

Lock Jaw 03-15-2012 05:20 PM

I love Action Comics #775, so I hope the movie turns out well. I fully expect a lot of extended action sequences, but hopefully they can get the spirit and "idealism" behind the thing across.

Noticed in the trailer that Manchester Black sounds kinda Scottish though. Also, I am not so crazy about his design.

Nowhere Man 03-18-2012 04:05 PM

Wasn't really expecting Batgirl to be the hyperactive one, but I did find that quite amusing.

Tara Strong, Grey Delusi, and Nicole Sheriden....my pants are so god damn tight.

Nowhere Man 03-18-2012 06:31 PM

So is that just going to be shorts like that, or are they making it a full-on series? Because it needs to be a full-on series.

Kalyx triaD 03-18-2012 10:17 PM

Just shorts. But this can certainly work as a series.

Hopefully that is just for the trailer. Dunno anyone who goes around acting like a match is a cigarette.

Lock Jaw 03-28-2012 08:18 PM

First look at the new Alan Scott:

http://www.comicbookresources.com/as...1332958732.jpg

You can't really get the full picture... but it is clear that they have done away with pretty much all elements of his old costume in favor of a more "Corps" looking one.

Alan Scott, behind Superman, had perhaps my favorite superhero costume. They are both dead and gone. It is a black day for comics.

Kalyx triaD 03-28-2012 08:20 PM

Kalyx triaD 03-28-2012 08:21 PM
