The Big Short - 7/10
I don't know. Wasn't totally feeling it. Felt a lot of the "funny moments" were really forced/not that funny, though that could've just been the shit audience I was with. The big "crescendo" moment with Steve Carrell on the stage felt like a let-down I guess. No idea how much of the movie is truth and how much is exaggerated etc |
I guess that's actually a bit of an unfair critique. I wanna compare the format of the movie to something like Idiocracy even though this one is more of an actual documentary (or biopic, or whatever).
I know Adam McKay does lots of funny movies, felt like maybe this one didn't need as much of that. idk. JUST ONE MAN'S OPINION |

loved it, everything "landed" with me

Hateful 8 -8/10 as most people have said the first half drags on too long but the 2nd half more than makes up for it.
Jennifer Jason Leigh deserves at least nomination for Best Actress (i see she got supporting actress in the Golden Globes but i dont get how shes a supporting actress). Felt like Tim Roth was supposed to be Christoph Waltz. |
I overheard someone say that Jennifer Lawrence was the first choice for the role.
|
Hateful Eight- I thought this was disappointing. I had no issue with the pacing or aesthetics of the film and there were a lot of things I liked about this but it felt pointless and at times dumb. Django and and Basterds felt like Tarantino celebrating cinema's ability to reclaim the brutalities of the past so the underdogs get their revenge, where this just felt nihilistic.
SPOILER: show Some other things annoyed me like when Tarantino's started narrating, and the slow motion shouting. Lots of good moments and great acting but as a whole the pay off wasn't enough to justify the 3 hour running time. 6/10 |
Hateful Eight 7/10
|
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - 3/5
I don't get what the big deal was. Wasn't impressed. The Revenant - 4.5/5 |
Daddy's Home - I dunno, 6/10
Had its moments, got a few chuckles, but didn't really leave any sort of lasting impression on me. The best jokes were in the trailer IMO. |
The Hateful Eight: 9/10. Loved it. Brilliant dialogue as I've come to expect from Tarantino films.
|
The Hateful Eight - 8.5/10 - Very good, classic Tarantino, not as good as Django.... an infusion of Christoph Walsh would have made it 10/10 easy.....
|
Martian - 6/10. I was not feeling this movie

Don't think it's as good as everyone says. |
The wife n I caught "Last Vegas" last night via Hulu. Great cast, decent story, the jokes landed for the most part. Pretty charming film and I love movies about Vegas.
7/10 |
Entertainment (2015) - 4/10
Watched this movie mainly because I like the person it's based on (Gregg Turkington / Neil Hamburger) but I did not like it. Don't like the director's movies. Felt the same way about his last movie (The Comedy). Had a few parts that I liked a lot but feels like it could have been condensed to a 15 min short film and have been way better. Bunch of intentionally drawn out scenes that are like 8 mins straight of nothing happening. Feels like I got sick of that "style" like 15 years ago via it "being done to death" by lots of independent films (and being done in a more interesting way than in this movie imo). w/e........ |
The Revenant - 9/10 - Amazing, as per the Leonardo DiCaprio standard....
|
On the flipside, I just got back from The Revenant and wasn't wholly impressed with it, based on all the accolades and critical acclaim it is getting
The Revenant - 7/10 Like... it's obviously a "good movie", I just didn't really get a ton out of it. SPOILER: show |
So I bought the James Bond Blu Ray Collection from Canada for 55 bucks last month, finally got around to it tonight with nothing better to do. Ive not seen in entirety most of the pre Brosnan Bonds with a couple of exceptions so..
Dr No - 6/10 really seemed like a dumb villian with a dumb plan. Ooh Im going to blow your rockets up with a radio wave beam generated by nuclear power from a contaminated island . I get the evil plots are convoluted sometimes but seriously... |
Powder- 5/7
|
The Big Short 8/10
If you don't hate bankers beforehand, you will after watching this film. |
Resident Evil: Retribution - 3.5 out of 5
|
Dirty Grandpa - 9/10
Way better than I was expecting. Maybe I'm over-rating it because I was so disappointed by Daddy's Home, but this was the best "raunchy/stupid comedy" I've seen in a while. Early on a few of the jokes fell a bit flat, and they went to the "haha saying vagina is funny" well a few too many times (but half of the time it was Aubrey Plaza so I'm okay with this) but man. Some great stuff. Good wrestling-related joke in the movie I won't spoil but I "laughed out loud" at the joke and the delivery of it, was real good |
