David Guetta- "Nothing but the Beat 2.0" 5/10. Remember when Guetta wasn't a complete sell-out?

I recently went to an EDM seminar with some world renowned DJs (Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Loco Dice, etc) and they spent so much time just shitting on Guetta. Hilarious.

Amazing album.

Bombensturm - Machtwerk. 5/10. Totally average, nothing really stands out, which is a shame because everything on the album is good, it's just all extremely bland.

Bahal - Striges. 9/10. Really good stuff and I enjoy the italian language vocals.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-05-2012 02:03 PM

Punch Brothers - Ahoy! (EP) 7/10
Gianluigi Trovesi and Gianni Coscia - Round About Offenbach 7/10

Quintessence Mystica - The 5th Harmonic of Death. 10/10. Freaking incredible, never thought an album this good could come from Ukraine of all places.

Also impressed that it's pretty much a two man project,

It would be cool if the dude with the pipe smoked in when in concert

"Holy Diver" by Dio is one of the greatest hardrock albums ever and I just listened to it in its entirety for the first time (I had previously only listened to about 5 songs or so). Easy 9/10

:y:

Now listen to Last in Line, Dream Evil and Magica.

The Condor 12-08-2012 12:24 AM

Pintint, you seem to be into the metal scene, are you familiar with Swedish group Sabaton? I've seen them and they are phenomenal, and their album Art of War is one of the best to come out in a while. Easy 8/10.

Pintint 12-09-2012 10:54 PM

Ashdautas - Shadow Plays Of Grief and Pain.

5/10. Poor production quality combined with generic music make for an extremely average album that seems to try too hard for the "kvlt" sound of older albums.

I've heard a few Sabaton songs but I am not all that familiar with them. The few songs that I've heard never caught my interest. I just listened to the title track of "Art of War" and it's a bit too "pompous" (power metal-ish) for my taste. Sort of like Hammerfall, good sound, but not something I would listen to extensively.

The Condor 12-09-2012 11:09 PM

Check out "Ghost Division" "Coat of Arms" "40:1" and "Midway". See if you like those tracks.

Pintint, i need to spread some reputation around. Great choice in albums. Mind listing your 2012 best of?

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-12-2012 04:58 PM

Al DiMeola - Land of the Midnight Sun 8/10
Fine Arts Quartet/Cristina Ortiz - Faure: Piano Quintets 8.5/10

Pintint 12-12-2012 11:11 PM

Marduk - Serpent Sermon.

Just found out that I somehow missed that Marduk had a new album out this year.
Pretty good, I need to listen to it more, but first impression is easily a 9/10.

I would have killed to go to that. Guetta is such a bitch and he acts like he's a martyr by totally selling out. The shit he used to do with Chris Willis on vocals was amazing. But I guess since Willis isn't Rihanna Guetta thumbs his nose at him.

Bad News Gertner 12-19-2012 03:14 AM

Kaskade "Fire and Ice" 6/10. Kinda disappointing.

Armin Van Buuren "Trance Classics 6" 10/10. Brought back so many great memories

Armin Van Buuren "Trance Classics 7" 7/10. This should and might be the end of these. A few good tracks from Armin, Marco V and Above&Beyond but it seems like he's pretty much run out of classics that were good.

Ferry Corsten "WKND" 9/10. Not as good as Right of Way which is my fav Trance album of all time, but pretty amazing. Brute, Not Coming Down and Live Forever are the standouts.

Johnny Vegas 12-19-2012 10:41 AM

Damn, that Kaskade Fire and Ice is disappointing? I was about to go get it too =(

May give the Armin Van Buuren 6 a listen b/c i may be the only person in the world who's unfamiliar with his work.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-19-2012 11:55 AM

Tom Waits - Blood Money 8/10
Patricia Kopatchinskaja - Bartok/Eotvos/Ligeti 8/10
Maria Kliegel/Nina Tichman - Faure: Cello Sonatas No. 1 and 2 8.5/10

You won't find any trance crap near me.

Schlomey 12-19-2012 02:10 PM

The Lumineers (2012)

Not one bad song on the record. Unique band to come out of 2012 and have a mainstream hit song.

9/10

Very much enjoy everything about this album. A little Mumfordy with a little folky bluegrassy feel at times. Quite enjoyable in the background.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-19-2012 02:47 PM

There is something rather contrived about Mumford and Sons, and The Lumineers. I don't know what it is, but it stops me from listening to them.

Adjective
Deliberately created rather than arising naturally or spontaneously.
Giving a sense of artificiality.

The same could be said for any and all music on the radio. Sometimes it's fun to crawl out from under the rock known as "indie" and just enjoy some awesome Earthy music that was created with basically no intention of succeeding.

Do you think M&S thought they would get to perform with Bob Dylan 2 years ago? No. They may have shared some commercial success but it came from a very natural place. Me thinks. And that is after much research on the roots of the group.

The Lumineers may very well be a ripoff of Fun. or Mumford & Sons, however.

Pintint 12-19-2012 06:26 PM

Boo Clan - Angel City Rippers. 8/10.

Keep in mind I'm more of a Trance fan and am picky when it comes to house.

That Armin cd is a compliation album of old Trance songs from his radio show. It's fantastic though.

I totally get this. There was nothing like it and now there's a handful of groups playing banjos and dressing like Amish people and Minonites. Same thing, however, can be said for grunge in the early 90's (Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarder, Pearl Jam) and thrash in the early-mid 80's (Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax). Success begets success and one group can kick start a pervasive movement as it seems Mumford and Sons with the acoustic, modern singer/songwriter genre.

Schlomey 12-20-2012 06:45 AM

Conor Oberst, on a smaller scale, brought back folk in america before Mumford came along. And old crow medicine show too.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-20-2012 10:40 AM

It is more a case of that I feel the likes of Mumford and Sons are just putting this act on, and don't have any real substance to backup what they play.

Same can be said of manufactured pop. But you know what you are getting with such "artists."

The Slits - Cut (1979)

10/10

really enjoyed

Absolute instant classic, 10/10.

OssMan 12-24-2012 08:31 PM

Sufjan Stevens's five-disc Christmas Sing Along album, very good "takes" on Christmas classics, also like ten "original" Christmas songs pretty crazy, very Sufjan

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-26-2012 08:34 AM

Death Cab for Cutie - Plans 7.5/10
Trampled by Turtles - Palomino 8/10
The Florestan Trio - Three French Piano Trios: Faure/Debussy/Ravel 9/10

Milo goes to college is their best album IMO

Just listened to Lagwagon's "Blaze" for the hundredth time. LOVE it.

Shisen Kopf 01-03-2013 05:01 AM

I haven't heard of anything any of you people listen to. I assume its all noise and not nearly as good as the last tape I listened too: Genesis-Invisible Touch 9.5/10 one of the best tapes of the mid 80s.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-03-2013 02:29 PM

Emma Johnson - Brahms: Clarinet Sonatas 8.5/10

10 Years - Minus The Machine 8/10

Pretty decent. Seemed a little rushed to me considering I never heard any hype for the album until it was already out. It's taking time to grow on me but it I don't think it will feel better to me than Feeding The Wolves, and it certainly isn't it as great as Division was. Still a great album and should definitely be checked out, especially if you're into any of their work including "Wasteland", "Beautiful, "Shoot It Out" and "Fix Me".

Blitz 01-03-2013 05:14 PM

Taylor Swift-Red: 8.5/10. Fantastic pop album, just overlong. Cut it to 11 or 12 songs and it could be album of the year.

Pretty damn tasty. Nothing much from the metal scene these days does anything for me, so it is good to find something that does.

Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind 9/10

I thought Axe to Fall was great, but this album is even rawer and bad ass. Tasty shizzle.

theregulator 01-07-2013 06:34 PM

all the cold play albums - .05/10 they make good target practice.
