It's just the SNES version of All-Stars on a disk. May as well just get an emulator.

And Tricky on Gamecube.

I'm sure no one is actually buying this to play the games. It's more of a collectible piece.

Yeah, it's gonna be worth something down the line for sure. If you buy it don't open it.

Similar to when EA added analog control to its Fight Night series and 2k added it for the NBA 2k series, Sony is going to add analog control for pitching and hitting in their upcoming MLB 11 The Show.

Quote:

ESPN's Jon Robinson, getting the first preview of Sony's genre-leading baseball franchise, says the analog-based pitching will transition to a gesture-based system that's somewhat similar to the new batting controls. Both involve pulling down on the right analog stick - which starts a batter's step or initiates a pitcher's windup. The player then drives the stick to the top. In pitching, the direction of the final thrust will affect the pitch's placement in or out of the strike zone, and the force you put behind it will impact its velocity.
Unlike EA, Sony is also keeping the traditional controls as an option and not having to wait for a patch or DLC for button controls. Analog controls however will be set as the default control setup for the game.

Also announced was 3D-capability for the game, Move-enabled control setup, and 2-vs-2 or 2-vs-CPU modes.

On 360 Faceplates:

Quote:

It "turned out nobody bought it," says Microsoft marketing director Albert Penello in an interview with OXM.

"We don't ever create an accessory with the intent of having it fail. The idea wasn't bad ... people used to put faceplates on their cell phones. Rewind five years, faceplates were what everybody wanted to do." Without sales, naturally they "killed that one pretty quickly," Penello continues.
Pretty sure there will be 3rd party support for a while. But yeah... it was kinda dumb. I personally never had any interest. More elaborately designed Xboxes like those special game editions are welcome, though. Still want that Reach version. And that RE red one was hot.

G 12-16-2010 12:28 PM

EA plan to solve the issue of how can PS3 users know the story without playing Mass Effect 1 by introducing an interactive comic with Mass Effect 2 for the PS3. The comic begins after the intro video to Mass Effect 2 for the PS3.

The comic will summarize the main story and also allow people to interact with the 6 main choices from the 1st game. From those results, Mass Effect 2 story will then customize itself based on the choices just like it did on Xbox 360 and PC.

The whole story from the comic can be sped through in a couple of minutes any time someone wants to start a brand new Mass Effect 2 game.

There is a rumor of the comic eventually arriving for the Xbox 360 and PC at a later date through the Cerbrus Network.

From Engadget:

In most circumstances, we'd argue a self-illuminating controller crisscrossed by bright bands of orange is a couple of notches over the top, but when it's Tron you're talking about, it all makes sense. This latest peripheral for the 360 is up for pre-order now at $39.99 and comes prepackaged with the smugness of knowing that each one sold will be part of a very limited 250-unit production run. It's officially licensed by Microsoft and arriving at snowy doorsteps some time later this month. A less exclusive blue brother should be joining it soon as well, in case the current hue's not quite to your liking.

Also, Inifinty Blade is amazing. Built on the Unreal Engine, it's a sword fighting game originally built for Kinnect, but it works so well on the screen and it is drop dead gorgeous. Could easily be a 360 game.

There are more than six choices in Mass Effect. He'll miss out on everything that made Mass Effect 2 so enjoyable. Seeing Conrad Verner again, receiving emails from people, he'll miss out on all of that. You lose out on so much immersion by just doing six choices and that's all.

Edit: Also, its not 'fine' to just go to the next game. As i stated before, the attachments you get to your characters mean something. Its just like any other RPG in that sense. Reading about the back story of a character isnt gonna put a smile on your face when you see them in ME2.

Crystal Dynamics releasing a Tomb Raider trilogy collection for just the PS3 but its not like other remakes or classics done so far on the PS3.

The games being picked for the collection are not from the original PS1 era or the 1st reboot of the franchise but from the 3rd set of games in the series (2nd reboot/retelling). The games included are Tomb Raider Legend, Tomb Raider Anniversary, and Tomb Raider Underworld.

Extras for the collection include trophy support and avatars for PS Home. Also announce for a March 22 release date but no price given.

Only reason no collection is coming to the Xbox 360 or Wii (didn't get Legend) is due to those consoles already have the games in the series while the PS3 only received Underworld.

Kalyx triaD 12-21-2010 03:51 PM

How a game plays is classically referred to as the 'engine' of the game. These days engine refers to development tools like the Cry Engine, Unreal Engine, or MT Framework. Old fogeys like me still use engine as a term for gameplay, though.

BigDaddyCool 12-21-2010 04:37 PM

Then say gameplay, I won't fault you for that. But saying engine, especially since there are a shit ton that just buy an engine to build a game off of (I'm well aware of the Unreal and Cry engines being used in games).

Kalyx triaD 12-21-2010 05:12 PM

I will use up-to-date terminology on these boards from now on. I forget the lingo isn't standard across the board.

BigDaddyCool 12-21-2010 05:31 PM

No one praises games based on their engines. I am on quiet a few game boards, and not once have I heard "I like the engine" or "the engine is shit." It is always game play is good, controls are clunky, stuff like that.

I could just as easily say I heard engine used as a term for gameplay since forever, but we roll in different circles, yo.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-21-2010 06:31 PM

So I wasn't the only one that was like "WTF." I mean even with a car or truck or something, you probably wouldn't say you like the car because of the engine, but because of the pick up, or that it can go from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds or what ever a good time is, especially since they dump the same engines in a Ford Ranger as they do with the Ford Escape and the van of the same size, don't know what it is called.

Pretty much nailed it, the Engine is just the set of tools given to developers to build the game with. As you say the quality can vary from game to game because while the engine provides you the means to produce a high quality product you still need to actually have the talent to plug that content into the engine and utilise it properly.

You will also have companies utilising different Middleware/Engines for different sections of their games too, pretty sure you've all seen Havoc Physics advertised in games or RAD Sound Tools. The engines are pretty modular in how they work.

A bad engine can result in what should be a good game perhaps not performing as it should. As much as I love it, Fallout 3 suffers a bit from this for some people because it uses the Engine Bethesda used for Oblivion still.
