QT stopped making great films a long long time ago and nobody noticed because the dialogue was still so obviously Tarantino, the cast always covered for the set pieces and the set pieces were just ludicrous enough to completely distract folk from the gaping plot holes and lack of sense.
Every time a critic savages a comedy film I think "You can apply that logic to everything Tarantino did after Jackie Brown" and yet he gets away with it time and time again because people prefer spectacle to sensible and there's a bizarre belief in Hollywood critics that doing anything to get an excited reaction is more honourable than doing anything to get a laugh.
I could only hate him more if he was somehow giving everybody cancer too, and I wouldn't put it past him.
Oh and "Funny People" is a much better film than "Inglourious Basterds".
"Funny People" is like being disappointed in a friend for relapsing straight after rehab whereas "Inglourious Basterds" is more like watching your friend steal money from you to spend on OnlyFans subscriptions and hearing "No you signed up for that yourself" when confronted.
