The World We Knew- To the Wolves
8/10 Production is tight and there's some pretty killer riffs. Probably TWWK's best stuff. http://www.mediafire.com/?tlo3kzbkl0l |
Wwkds best work
|
i'm listening to trio's new one right now and while i'm not done with it i can tell it won't be any higher than a 6
edit - i'll give it a final score of 5.5. lackluster, rehashed, boring, but enjoyable for what it is. this vampire weekend album, though. i'm feeling pretty comfortable throwing an 8.5 at it, but i think i like it even more than that. enjoy it more than the first one, and that's saying something. |
Owen Pallett - Heartland
Like 7.5/10. Really good. A few "bangers" Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself 8/10 The Magnetic Fields - Realism Like a 6/10. But probably will end up a 7 or 8. Titus Andronicus - The Monitor 7.5, maybe more after 2nd or 3rd listen. |
The Emptiness - Alesana
9/10 Comes out on the 26th, found a leaked version of it. Fucking incredible. Juan will prob dig it. |
John Coltrane - Giant Steps
8.5/10 It may reach a 9 at some point. |
titus andronicus- 8
magnetic fields 7 surfer blood- 8.5 |
destroyer- this night- 8
destroyer-streethawk-8 |
Cockpunch!- Attack - 9/10
Fast pissed off hardcore at its best. http://www.myspace.com/cockpunch413 http://www.mediafire.com/?mmzmyxyzz2y |

Brand New - Daisy 6/10
Dunno, not 'loving it' the way I did The Devil and God. Noro and At The Bottom are my favourite tracks. Also listened to it a few times and it seems to be growing on me. Maybe I'll come to love it, dunno. |

The Upsides - The Wonder Years
9/10 Decomposing Normality - King Conquer 7/10 My Dinosaur Life - Motion City Soundtrack 8.5/10 |
I am going through a few of my old albums.
The Streets- A Grand Don't Come For Free. For a time this album almost spoke directly to me. It still does in many ways. Dry Your Eyes is an amazing song lyrically. Mike Skinner always had that gift of honesty and sincerity that made it feel like you were just listening to a pal just have a chat with you about his life. There are better songs on the album, but this one is probably the song I identify with most. Even if you remove the whole plot of his girl Simone cheating on him with his friend Dan no song really sums up clubbing like this. Even down to taking too much MDMA because you original think the pills are shit so you get overwhelmed to the point where you can just sorta move your arms. One of the few songs that hits me just right. I'd give the album 9.5/10 |
I love Jason Aldeans new album. Love the song The Truth.
|
Stroke- songs for chris knox- 8
Charlotte Gainsbourg- IRM (written by beck) 9 Listening momentarily new Eluvium- (TBD) and clipd beaks |
Rob Zombie- Hellbilly Deluxe 2
8.5 out of 10 Awesome album. Definitely ordering a copy of it when it comes out on Tuesday. |
Book of Knots - Traineater
8/10 Members of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, guest appearance by Tom Waits on one of the tracks. What more can you ask for? |
She and Him - Volume 1 8/10
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run 8/10 |
Canibus- Melatonin Magik
7/10 Good stuff, glad to see DZK on an official CD |
Motion City Soundtrack - My Dinosaur Life: 7.5/10
Die Antwoord - $o$: 7/10 Busta Rhymes - Total Devastation (Best Of): 8/10 Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica: 9/10 That's some of the stuff I just got tonight. Completed my Modest Mouse collection, only had the two most recent albums before that. "My Dinosaur Life" is the first MCS album I got since their first one. Very "pop", but very enjoyable too. Lots of catchy songs on that album. I've been on a Busta Rhymes nostalgia trip since I heard his "Don't Touch Me" song remixed on "Ocarina of Rhyme", so I got this one. I really enjoy Busta Rhymes' delivery. Die Antwoord was recommended to me by Zelda. The girl's voice is really annoying at first, but then you get used to it, and as you keep listening to the album, some of the songs reminds you of MIA's songs with world beats and stuff like that. "Enter The Ninja" is silly but catchy as hell. |
Butch Walker And The Black Widows-I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart: 8/10
Butch doesn't write bad songs, and this is more than solid. I miss the poppier sound he used to have though. |
Angels and Airwaves - LOVE
4/10 Pretty boring and repetitive. AVA is really not that good at all to be honest. Far below Blink. |
Disturbed - Bonus CD 10/10
|
Philip Glass - Solo piano
6.5/10 |
Fozzy- Chasing the Grail
7.5/10 |
This Will Destroy You-This Will Destroy You: 9/10 A Three-Legged Workhorse=<3
|
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love 9/10
|
Chris Brown - Graffiti (Deluxe Int'l Edition): 8.5/10 (Dude, "Chase Our Love" i've been listening to alot lately...idk why...)
|
Underground Metal Usa Vol 1 - 10/10
|
Dark Tranquillity - We Are The Void
6/10 |
Alkaline Trio - This Addiction
6/10 |
Joanna newsom- have one on me- 10/10

High Places - High Places vs. Mankind - 6.5/10 after 1st listen. Other albums were way better I think.
Smith Westerns - Smith Westerns - 9/10. Mad good Ganglians - Monster Head Room - 8/10. Beach Boysish Surfer Blood - Astrocoast - 5/10. dunno. Couple of good songs but ehh. Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me - 6/10 I guess. |
Carpenters - A Song for you 6/10
I don't know what the big deal is about this album. |
Eels - End Times.
10/10 - Classic Eels, no one does it better than E |
Iyaz - My life
3/10 I kind of like Replay |
dredg - The pariah, the parrot, the delusion
6.5/10 I dunno... |
Yours Truly, Angry Mob- Kaiser Chiefs
7/10 Animal- Ke$ha 4/10 College Dropout- Kanye West 8/10 Owl City- Ocean Eyes 9/10 Refill- Eminem 4/10 Life Starts Now- Three Days Grace 5/10 Up to Now- Snow Patrol 9/10 |
Owl City make me want to stab babies. Every time I seem to go into any kind of shop in town that cunting song of theirs is playing. Wankers.
|
Marion Raven- Set Me Free
8/10 Very good album, totally worth a listen. |

Awesome. 8/10 |
KRS-One - A Retrospective: 7/10
Oxmo Puccino - Opéra Puccino: 8/10 Wyclef Jean - Toussaint St-Jean (From the Hut to the Projects to the Mansion): 5/10 I got the KRS-One album because it occured to me I only had like two songs of his which I enjoyed tremendously, so I should get more. Some of the old stuff isn't really my cup of tea. I love the lyrics, but some of the beats don't seem good enough, even though I should be the last guy to be judging that. However, there are more than enough great tracks to make this album worth your time if you don't have anything else by the guy. Oxmo Puccino is a French rapper, and this is his first album released in 1998. I missed it at the time because I was poor, even though I knew the guy because he is often featured on IAM's records, and IAM are my favorites. Anyway, I rediscovered the guy recently, and it's a shame I didn't do it sooner. That album would have been playing non-stop in my CD player back then. It still holds up well. Awesome delivery and great lyrics. Some songs are catchy as hell too. Wyclef's latest is probably one of his weakest record ever. Most of the songs are either flat or annoying, and the one I enjoyed the most features Cindy Lauper, which is kinda weird. Out of 17 tracks, I really enjoyed about 3 or 4. The rest are kinda bland. |
Julie Fowlis - 7/10
Scottish Gaelic folk music. Better than her last album. But like all her stuff, it is pleasant but... and nothing else. |
Dr. Dre - Detox
Wait, it's never coming out |
Biggie smalls 9/10
|
MGMT - Congratulations
8.5/10 Really "digging" this album a lot. Way better than the first one imo. |
Broken Bells - Broken Bells - 7/10 (James Mercer of the Shins + DangerMouse)
Catchy album, no real duds on it. |
Airbourne - No Guts, No Glory
5/10 |
Maps - Turning the Mind
9/10 Love Valium in the Sunshine |
I'm finally ready to make a judgement
Joanna Newsom - have one on me 7.5/10 |
Cartel - Cycles 7/10. Sugar, but with some really nice writing.
|
Bikini Kill - Pussy Whipped 7/10
Decent record, though for some reason, I was expecting more. |
Donkeyboy - Caught Up In Life
My roommate told me to listen to tracks called "Promise Kept" and "Sometimes". Been hooked ever since. 9/10. Love their sound. Reminds me of the 80s alot, but could easily be mainstream today. Surprised the US hasn't heard as much of them but i think they are big in Norway. Usher - Raymond v. Raymond 8/10. I've always liked Usher. I love the production on this album. To really grasp the production and the mastering, you should listen to this on your ipod with some headphones. Will still sound good on a stereo or car stereo, but its great on my Droid. People say he's trying to go to his "Confession" days, but its not that simililar other than the points made about the songs. I mean, what singer/musician isn't talking about either money, the opposite (or same for George Michael) sex, love, trials and tribulations, etc. Jay-Z - Blueprint III 9.5/10. He is the best. He is starting to get into the realm (if he wasn't already) of the best rapper EVER. He is too consistent (minus Kingdom Come..not a TERRIBLE album, but not a good comeback album) in the game for anybody to deny his greatness. His lyrics are better than 90% of the game and usually when you are in rap for a while, you "lose your touch." Not for Hov (or Nas for that matter). Love "Young Forever", "Thank You", "DOA", "As Real As It Gets", basically the whole album. Only reason why it didn't get a 10 was because i cannot get into "Venus v. Mars". lol |
Incubus - Light Grenades 7/10
It is definitely not as good as ABt thinks. It doesn't touch S.C.I.E.N.C.E or Morning View, but it is a decent enough album. Nothing special, but there is no track that I hate. But neither does it dazzle. |
That's how I felt about Crow Left of Murder
|
Angels & Airwaves - LOVE
9/10 The only reason I gave it a 9 is because I don't believe any album will ever be perfect to everyone. |
Cobalt - Gin
8/10 Black metal meets Tool. |
The Flight Of Apollo
|
Matthew Good - Vancouver - 9/10 (easily one of his best albums)

Brighton Port Authority - 6/10
Old one, but I just learned it existed. This is actually Fatboy Slim under a new name, with fatured artists as guests. There are some good tracks, like those with Emmy The Great, Iggy Pop and David Byrne & Dizee Rascal. There are a couple of tracks that feel like filler, but at least they aren't annoying beats like what I seem to find on some albums of that genre. Solid effort all the way. |

Cool shit. I watched them on fueltv I believe and Tom's voice was really good for some songs (Young London) but then sounded weird as hell for others. How was the show? I've never been an AVA show but I went to Blink last summer and it was the best concert of my life.

i don't know, man. it's good, no doubt, but i have to give it a few more listens to really feel it out. seems really weak during the second half. "here we are, juggernaut" is probably my favorite song, and not that the single being my favorite is a bad thing, but it's usually not a good sign. i'll get back to you.

Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention: Unmitigated Audacity
9/10 Listen to it. Then, listen to it DRUNK. |
She & Him Vol.2 - 7/10
|
Giant Drag - Hearts of Unicorns
Musically, I'd give it 7/10. But the woman is rather annoying in the sound bites before a couple of songs, or after they have finished, and thus I deduct 1 point for that. So 6/10. |
Caribou - Swim: 9/10
Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record: 8/10 Morning Benders - Big Echo: 9/10 Minus The Bear - Omni: 7/10 Some hot albums lately |
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! - 8/10
Been out for a while, but I only discovered Nick Cave recently. "More News From Nowhere" makes the whole album for me, but the rest of the tracks, such as the title song, are also top quality. I got the rest of the discography just because of this album and I wasn't disapointed. Gorillaz - Plastic Beach - 9/10 My favorite Gorillaz album since their debut effort. "Rhinestone Eyes" and "Superfast Jellyfish" are my favorite on the disk, but the tracks, despite all having a similar retro-electronic vibe (don't really know how to describe it), are all unique and amazingly catchy. |
Emperor- In The NightSide Eclipse

6.5/10 Nowhere near as good as her first album. Kind of a disappointment. |

M83 - Saturdays = Youth 9/10 Awesome album, great production by Ewan Pearson who is really becoming my favourite producer, if not by now he already is. Very New Wave esque and some songs are just really fucking dreamy. We Own the Sky and Kim & Jessie being my 2 faves of this. Best songs: Kim & Jessie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5cgzcjqOtE&fmt=18) We Own the Sky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzge5vY72hE&fmt=18) Graveyard Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCkk0-az5TA&fmt=18) Couleurs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87y7Jjt0OKQ&fmt=18) |

Deftones - Diamond Eyes
8/10 I'm not quite sure about this album. I don't know how to rank it amongst there catalogue. It is not up there with Around the Fur/White Pony/Deftones, but it is better than alot of the shite around today. I'd say it is better than Saturday Night Wrist, though there is no Cherry Waves on Diamond Eyes. It is an album that definitely needs more listens before I come to a solid conclusion. Just wondering if and when Eros will see the light of day. |
