You know what they need in this? A Custom Multiplayer Map Creator like in Far Cry 2.

That system was too much. I didn't know where to start.

Some really nice maps were made, but it confused the fuck out of me.

Why can't every developer be Infinity Ward? When asked by Videogamer.com why Modern Warfare 2's co-op was limited to two players, spokesman Robert Bowling said, "Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That's when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things."

Bowling also said that the whole game won't be playable in co-op because the developer is "crafting a very specific experience" and doesn't want to "ruin that by cramming co-op into it." While it's nice to see a company stick to its guns like that, we figure developers who sell a hojillion copies of a game can pretty much write their own menus.

UK, June 25, 2009 - Activision and Infinity Ward could be cutting into their profits for Modern Warfare 2 by dropping the Call of Duty moniker, according to tracking firm OTX.

Gamasutra reports that in a survey of US gamers conducted by the firm, consumer awareness levels for the game with Call of Duty at the front of the title were at 40 per cent. However this fell to just 20 per cent when the title was switched to just Modern Warfare 2.

OTX boffin Nick Williams does the math: "The Call of Duty brand association essentially doubles the awareness for the game. That is quite a remarkable statistic."

Indeed it is, although Activision shouldn't go crying to their bank managers just yet. OTX do go on to say that 'purchase intent' for the title was still four times above average, and that's before a sure-to-be-huge marketing push closer to the title's release this November. Says Williams: "Even without the Call of Duty association, it is still perceived as a must have title."

I don't understand why it crossed anyone's mind to drop Call of Duty from the title, how can you have a game called Modern Warfare 2 when there isn't a game called Modern Warfare?

Nothing official has been said about it. However, this was posted at Gamestop but take it with a grain of salt.

Eh I can do without all that crap. Extra Multiplayer maps or some shit would be the only thing worth buying extra.

Activision: Modern Warfare 2 was always ready for the 'Call of Duty'

The fact that "Call of Duty" branding was conspicuously absent from Modern Warfare 2's debut trailer and all subsequent promotional materials about the game seemed to declare clearly enough that the title had left the franchise's well-fortified nest. A fact that Activision seemed to acknowledge by telling us it "has taken on such a life of its own." So, imagine our surprise when the game's box art materializes ... with "Call of Duty" in the title.

Was this a reaction to the fact that consumers weren't really aware of the game without the familiar branding, as made clear by a Google Trends chart tweeted by Destructoid's Nick Chester? (Or recent analyst comments saying as much.) When asked about the apparent change of heart (and art), Activision replied, "Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package."

The company also said that, "Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series." We agree: letting people know it's a Call of Duty game is probably a good thing.

I find it silly that people were presumed to be so terribly stupid that they would be confused by the absence of "Call of Duty." This whole ordeal was a fucking silly situation.

Though we have no idea the kind of hurt that a game that comes with night vision goggles will put on our wallets (and we will allow that hurt, make no mistake), we have a price for the Hardened Edition, the name of which is easy to remember, as the box in which it is contained is hard, like metal.

Besides the steel game case, you'll get an art book and Call of Duty Classic on XBLA or PSN all for $80, according to Infinity Ward spokesman Robert Bowling's Twitter feed.

Also, anyone notice anything missing from the Hardened box? Any ... words specifically?

Only Two Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs Planned




Though we've known for a while that two downloadable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map packs would hit Xbox 360 first before any other platform, it now appears that those two map packs could be the entirety of the shooter's downloadable content.

"We plan to launch two separate map packs for this title," Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith said of Modern Warfare 2's "online content" in a conference call, adding that over 8 million Call of Duty map pack downloads have been sold on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Said map packs are traditionally priced at 800 MS Points ($10) on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and usually hit PC a bit later on in the form of a free update. Infinity Ward, which is crafting Modern Warfare 2, released one map pack for the first Modern Warfare, while Treyarch has thus far produced three for the more recent Call of Duty: World at War.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hits PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 10--the same day the Wii gets the original Modern Warfare and the DS gets Mobilized.

There are many places one can find Mr. 50 Cent: In any number of clubs, as referenced by his chart-topping song; in his numerous self-titled video games, one of which has become a cult classic among the Joystiq staff; and according to entertainment news site ThisIs50, he can be found at Infinity Ward's studios, doing voice work for the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Robert Bowling confirmed to Kotaku that Fiddy will be supplying "one of many squad voices" featured in the game's multiplayer and Spec Ops modes. Bowling mentioned 50 Cent's lines will be standard shooter fare -- "Reloading," "Tango Down," and the like. We pray he'll also sneak in a reference to his precious jewel-encrusted cranium.

We know you had a great time testing Call of Duty 4's multiplayer component before the final game launched, so we're sad to note CVG's report that Modern Warfare 2 will not go the same route as its predecessor. An Activision spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that there will be no multiplayer beta for the game.

We also know that sucks, so in an effort to get Activision and developer Infinity Ward to change their minds, we've started this online petition. It's bound to get their attention, right? Hello? Are you going to get a pen? It's on the internet, you don't need one!
