I don't want to believe this. I have the same feeling I did with Eddie. I don't want to believe it, and I just don't know what to say.

Zeeboe 06-25-2007 06:48 PM

Guys, I realize I am a jobber in this place....

But please...just remember that Zeeboe a.k.a. Val Venis was the one who first predicted that it was a work.

Infact, I am starting to believe more and more that this is all staged.

You'll all be laughing at yourselves later for this and for many years to come...mark my words...hell, I already am laughing at some of you.

As for you who are sickened by McMahon...I bet you'll still watch his product and really hate his guts....which is what he wants.

McMahon has figured out once again how to shock people...I wish I were related to him...I'd be so rich....

Could be that I'm just trying to find excuses to believe this isn't real at this point but does seem a bit odd. Hope this is part of the storyline.

Well they just announced his death, they probably need time to upload shit and stuff.

Xero 06-25-2007 06:48 PM

Holy fucking shit. I hope it's an angle. I hope Benoit blew up the limo.

It's a bit suspicious that he happened to have to leave Texas and then was found dead.

If this is true this really is very sad and I have to say Rest in Peace to one of the greatest.

This is like Eddie all over again, figuring it's an angle.

When I read it on the front page I went right to PWInsider to check it. Oh Lord this is bad. :(

Corkscrewed 06-25-2007 06:48 PM

Guys... it's only been an hour since this news broke. Even the internet has its limit on speed of report.

I've check the sites too, and we'll see what's going on.

Although, yeah, I'm holding onto a shread of hope that this is all a work. Still a shread...

Cactus Sid 06-25-2007 06:48 PM

Guys, this just isn't a work, this is just an absolute tragedy

Obviously we don't know what has happened, its not the time to speculate, it is a time to mourn the passing of one of the greats

Rest in Peace Chris, Nancy and Daniel, taken away way too soon

IC Champion 06-25-2007 06:49 PM

Yea Im from Canada, and there is nothing about this, and we're serious about our wrestling, and our Canadians, so...

zdmay 06-25-2007 06:49 PM

They still have the McMahon angle on the Raw page.

Benoit had been scheduled to appear on a WWE house show on Saturday. Sources tell us Benoit called to first say he would be taking a later flight, and then to say he would not be attending the house show due to a family illness. According to one source, Benoit said both his wife and son were throwing up blood and he needed to stay to take care of them.:'(

I just don't know how seriously to take it after all the shit they've pulled, but fuck. I can't believe even WWE would do that. So I'm assuming that Chris and his family really are dead, and that sucks balls. But Hell, I would almost rather it just be some sick joke.

NoRoolz 06-25-2007 06:50 PM

Thinking more about it I think it actually is a work.

Maybe it's more hope than anything, but putting the things together already mentioned it could well be.

Also with RAW being 3 hours tonight, we've known that for a long-time maybe it was always scheduled to be a false Benoit appreciation night, rather than another McMahon show.

I feel bad saying this is a work because it very well may be legit and I don't want to have doubted the reality of this situation.

Really don't know how to feel right now :S

To my friend Chris Benoit R.I.P.

I was sitting here at my computer when I got a call informing me of the death of Chris Benoit and his family. Other than saying that my thoughts go out to to his remaining family, I don't know what to say. Chris had just called me on Thursday to check on me as he has every week since my surgery and now days later I find out that he's gone. He was my friend. This hurts! This fucking sucks!!!! Rest in peace my friend! Love you!

God, I hope they don't think it's a work and start booing. :'(

I hope this is a work, I really do, but it just doesn't make sense for it to be. He had no connection to Vince McMahon in storyline terms, so this being a serial killer angle doesn't make too much sense. Plus they've taken down all the Mr. McMahon stuff.

I hope this isn't how karma works. Mr. McMahon may have been an ass for playing with death, but Benoit doesn't deserve to be taken to prove a point. Nor does his family. R.I.P. Chris, Nancy and Daniel.

I also get bad feelings about this. Three people don't just die, especially after a family emergeancy. I don't want to speculate, but I think we have all considered two of the possible scenarios. Let's hope it isn't so. Fuck, let's just hope this is all a work.

Mr Regal 06-25-2007 06:52 PM

If this is a work it is in the worst possible taste!

If it is not a work it is the worst possible news.

Corkscrewed 06-25-2007 06:53 PM

It takes time to formulate a report on something. Even WWE.com's announcement was just a blurb. Most news agencies won't post something (written or announced on the news) unless there's details.

If anyone lives in Atlanta and has any news or radio news on, though, it *might* be mentioned there...

I dunno. I'm not letting myself feel right now.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-25-2007 06:54 PM

Val: Nah, not a work. I doubt Benoit would pull something like this.

Gregory Helms has posted on his MySpace, someone else who I doubt would be involved in a fucked up work

If it's not a work, and Vince doesn't come out on stage at the beginning of the show and acknowledge what Benoit meant to the company, like he did with Eddie - then I'll probably be done with the WWE forever.

Some guy on Wikipedia's discuss page is claiming to have called Channel 11 Atlanta and they said they checked with police and there is no investigation or news on this. It was an unsigned comment though.

Now they've added Benoit pictures and videos on the front page of WWE.com

Corkscrewed 06-25-2007 06:59 PM

Son and wife coughing up blood? So maybe it was a crazy illness? A virus? Poisoning? WTF?!

KingofOldSchool 06-25-2007 07:01 PM

I hate to speculate. But I've got a bad feeling on what MIGHT'VE happened if what was reported about Nancy and Daniel coughing up blood causing Benoit to stay home and take care of them.

MVP 06-25-2007 07:02 PM

Yeah the info about the death angle was taken off Wikipedia

RGWhat316 06-25-2007 07:02 PM

Oh my god, one of my wrestling buddies just called me to tell me about this and I just cannot believe it. What a fn shame this is. Makes you think that his family emergency was this serious. I almost hate to specualte murder or something like that, but I just have no idea what to think right now. I guess if he would have gone ahead with the wrestling, he might be ok, but just wow. R.I.P. Chris.

James Steele 06-25-2007 07:03 PM

I refuse to believe this is real, yet. I dunno why, but I am a fucking Benoit mark and I am holding out until McMahon has his ass out on that ramp in 50 minutes on live television.

Well, the investigation is probably less than an hour old so far, if even that, so if this is for real, which it would be pretty dumb of WWE to pull a stunt like this if it’s revealed to be a work, I say we just let the Atlanta police do their jobs, and have the medical examiner tell us what the probable cause of death was.

I got the same feeling. I hope it isn't so. I feel like an ass speculating on how someone should die when taken too early, though, it was too damn early for all of them.

And it doesn't make sense for this to be an angle, Val. Now that I'm thinking a bit more clearly, I'm almost certain this isn't a work. It wouldn't make sense. The WWE are reporting Benoit was "found dead." You can't be "found dead" and then come back as a wrestler, all Undertaker jokes aside. If they've killed off Benoit, we'd never see him on WWE TV, again. The WWE haven't even fully come out and said Vince McMahon is dead, because it's something you can't really come back from. The WWE would be reporting Benoit in critical condition, or something, if it were a work.

Savio 06-25-2007 07:14 PM

The only way I could see him and his whole family dying is if there was food poisoning (besides foul play from a family member).

I don't think so. If Vince led the thing, I think people would appreciate the fact that his death was an angle and this is real. Yeah, it would kill off the Vince=Dead angle but this is a lot more important.

Gerard 06-25-2007 07:15 PM

Last lot of years for wrestling as a whole a lot of big names have passed on. Reading that on wwe.com i just felt numb, i mean last night at the ppv i remember them saying benoit had to go home because of family issues or something along those lines...but christ whoever expected this?

:'(

Mr. Nerfect 06-25-2007 07:16 PM

This is just wrong. It shouldn't happen like this. Benoit was one of those guys that I expected to see sitting in the front row of RAW until he was in his nineties, and coming out on stage with a walking stick for special ceremonies.

As for other guys this must be really hurting, besides those who are known to be close to Benoit (Rey Mysterio, Chavo Guerrero, William Regal and Dean Malenko), you can't overlook MVP, who was a huge fan of Benoit, and even trained under the guy for a while.

Dorkchop 06-25-2007 07:16 PM

It's a weird coincidence that both Chris Benoit, and his best friend Eddie Guerrero, both passed away when they were scheduled to win their second world title in WWE.

Just a coincidence. I really wish this was a sick storyline in WWE, but it's not. I'm not looking forward to the fucktards trying to say this is a work (like they did with Eddie).

KingofOldSchool 06-25-2007 07:18 PM

Well it's being reported now on one of the Atlanta new station websites.

Out of all the wrestling sites on the net. This must have been the hardest hit. Took me a while just to get in here and finally make a post after the site crashed. Every other site was easy to get into.

With that out of the way. A few tidbits have come to light. This is making it's way around the major news networks and sites.

Atlanta P.D. is treating this as a homicide right now. However, no gun has been used.

Autopsy results should be out around tuesday.

R.I.P. Chris Benoit. You were one of the best in the business who always went out of his way to give a good show. Forever you'll be missed. :'(

Londoner 06-25-2007 10:12 PM

This site also frustrtaingly crashed for me been dying to post. I literally woke up at 1am expecting to see the Mcmahon tribute and found out Benoit and his family were dead. Can't believe it. Why has this happened i wonder?? With eddie you could understand, but Benoit AND his family??? RIP.

Corndad 06-25-2007 10:12 PM

Wow. I was at work and heard the news in an email.

I just felt numb. I had to just stop what I was doing.

Wow is it gonna be tough when they show the end of WM 20 tonight on Raw with Eddie and him standing there hugging each other at the end.

RIP Benoit.

Zeeboe 06-25-2007 10:13 PM

I guess I was wrong. It wasn't fake. I guess I just didn't wanna believe it was real.

lort 06-25-2007 10:14 PM

I'm still in shock, I feel for his friends and his family. It's just a complete tragedy. He was a fantastic wrestler and really will be missed.

I have to hand it to Vince, he did the right thing by standing in the ring.

RIP Chris Benoit.

Corkscrewed 06-25-2007 10:14 PM

Why are the best always taken away from us too soon?

Maybe it's because extraordinary people make their mark immediately, and once they have delivered their service to this world, there is nothing else but to have them recalled back to the next.

But Dean Malenko said it best. At least right now, Benoit and Eddie are putting on a wrestling show for the ages, high up in the heavens.

Londoner 06-25-2007 10:16 PM

^ Thing is corkscrewed its not just Benoit, but his family to! Its insane. Benoit was one of the wrestlers keeping me interested.

I know. Read my comments on the first few pages when this story was first breaking. That was what stood out at the very beginning... that it was Benoit and his family. Just so shady and shocking.

Initially, my responses generally settled on "WHAT THE FUCK???" and "WHAT THE FUCK????"

Although if they can have autopsy results by tomorrow (that's fast), something tells me we're bound to hear more unpleasant news.

I'm not trying to change the subject or start a fight but I just wanna make it clear that for the record I wasn't trying to be an asshole. I'd never make a joke out of this. I respect Benoit just as much as anyone else here and given all the nonsense that has been going on with McMahon and the "death" angle lately, how could I not be a little bit skeptical?

owenbrown 06-25-2007 10:23 PM

I can't believe it... I woke up 25 minutes into Raw and switched it over to USA and saw "Remembering Chris Benoit" and immediately said WHAT?! NO WAY! I am at a loss... I just looked earlier and saw that WSB-TV, WXIA and WAGA in Atlanta are all reporting his death. R.I.P. Benoit and family. :'(

KingofOldSchool 06-25-2007 10:23 PM

You know something kind've ironic?

Eddie's last match was against an up and comer in Mr. Kennedy

Benoit's last TV match was against another up and comer in Elijah Burke and was scheduled to face another up and comer in CM Punk last night.

But it's still a bitter pill to swallow.

Zeeboe 06-25-2007 10:24 PM

Benoit sounded like a kid when he talked about Diatomite Kid. :) He was just a fan like all of us.

NeanderCarl 06-25-2007 10:25 PM

I didn't know until I turned on Raw (and only NOW have I been able to come on TPWW)

Two words: fucked up.

R.I.P., "Crippler": one of the best pure in-ring performers, arguably THE best, of all time.

311 06-25-2007 10:26 PM

I'm not even sure what to say about this. Chris Benoit is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time, and I've seen a good majority of his matches. Anyone who had read anything about him, or watched anything about him, knows what a great human being he was. The thought of this being a homicide is absolutely sickening. I'm absolutely in shock.

Rest in peace, Benoit family.

This is hitting me harder than Eddie's, and I hate to say that, but it's true. Forget about WWE works, forget about McMahon, forget about Vengence...this is an absolutely tragedy.

The man was an icon, inside and ourside of the ring. I'm not sure I could say anything else without rambling.

The man and his entire family. It's sickening, saddening, and horrific. I hope they find whoever did this, and find him quickly. He doesn't deserve another minute free.

LK 06-25-2007 10:26 PM

Watching Edge's testimonial there was hard.

I just can't imagine how hurt so many people must be right now. Malenko, Regal, Kurt Angle, Jericho to name a few.

Just as I type that I can see JBL hurting as well.

I still really don't know how to respond to the news. Like many I turned Raw on expecting the McMahon angle and I saw the video of him winning at WM 20. Remembering hearing that he had flown home for a family emergency, I thought that maybe something had happened with his family and he had retired. Then that message "In Memory of Chris Benoit - 1967 - 2007" appeared and it took a moment to figure out what it meant.

I still just cannot believe this.

Regal was right when he said " Benoit was the absolute best".

I'm heartbroken.

Yeah, James Steele and I were discussing how you could make a sort of "Abraham Lincoln/JFK Similarities" sort of list between Benoit and Guerrero.

Remember when Mitch Hedberg died on April Fools day and it was the most ironic thing ever, dont really think this would be a joke

awful, awful news. great wrestler and a sad loss. R.I.P. Benoit and family.

According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, this is now being treated as a "murder-suicide".

There he is.

I wish this was a nightmare. Wrestling has truly lost one of its greatest performers and people ever.

Skippord 06-25-2007 10:32 PM

Sounded like Edge was crushed

I want to know how the fuck this happened, just can't understand. This match will be tough to watch. :(

This hit me harder than Eddie's simply because it was not just him but his wife and young son.

I was a bigger fan of Eddie's than Benoit's, I admit it.

However the fact that Benoit and his family died is the biggest shock factor in this, because that's something I don't think has ever happened in pro wrestling.
