Watching the Boys. A nice little slow build first ep to catch up with where everyone is at after the season finale. Episode picks up the pace and is glorious.

I'm waiting until the whole season has been released. Motherlovers need to understand this is not the 1990s or 2000s; I expect to binge a season at my leisure.

Started watching season 2.

A strong return so far. The performance quality and style makes a lot of the details palatable. This is a smarter show than Umbrella Academy with a much more acerbic edge to the characters.

Why would anyone compare this to Umbrella Academy? Both are different in execution and this is clearly superior.

One is more grittier and dark whereas the other is more accessible? That's just me. They're both enjoyable but I'd hate to compare them and water down the other because the comparison feels unfair.

Comparing different iterations of Batman doesn't come across as wrong since they share the same protagonist, characters, and stories. The Umbrella Academy and The Boys are two very different shows. One deals with a dysfunctional family with superpowers and other is about a group of guys of who are on the run and trying to seek revenge / justice against people with superpowers.

They are both shows about dysfunctional groups of superheroes. In one they are protagonists, and the other they are antagonists.

It's the same premise essentially.

Superheroes are dicks too.

Even if they were different you can still compare them though. Comparing things helps you understand them more.

I just have a strong preference for one over the other. Feel like it undermines "The Umbrella Academy" which I also cherish.

Ep 4 was whole lotta sometin

Episode 4 has classic written all over it due to that one amazing Homelander revelation.
The greatness of that scene is that it's gross, funny, weird and then with one swift shake it becomes darker than almost everything that they have done so far.

Anthony Starr is ballin' at this stage.
He's so great in the role.

The reveal is so great namely because Homelander plays off it so well.

As much as I hate having to wait a week, I'm totally cool with this being done for what a service deems a "big deal". Gets people talking and a lot of click bait comes out when people get a chance to ruminate on the goings on and potential theories.

In this day and age its hard to do that over a few weeks let alone months if you're looking to stay relevant for that long. Does it mean more subscribers? I'd like to see the data on if this works.

Nitpick: The boat seemed shoehorned in to episode 3 just to give "The Deep" a way to come back.

So ready to actually begin to watch this. Think I might finally have the girlfriend on board since she has gotten used to my liking of Over the Top stuff

This show is so weird but everybody plays it so strIght.

Anthony Starr's eyes are a whole other level of physical performance.
His face is just perfect for that character.

Love Stormfront and I have no idea where they are going with her. In the comic he's a minor character.

Also, super happy that Terror is in it now.

I was disappointed with Frenchie in the first season, but he's gotten a lot more development so far, and he's growing on me.

I love so much about the show but Ill start by saying the slow burn on Stormfront's "views" is great. They juuuuuust started broaching the topic with A-Train this episode. Knowing the audience would find out about the comic Stormfront it would be easy to introduce the character, then immediately pull back the curtain. There's something more going on with her than just her "views".

Storefront was guilty of the most ludicrously planted piece of racism ever.

One thing this show needs to do is make The Boys a much more legitimate threat to superheroes.
They are continually made to look like ineffective dipshits.

In the comics they have compound v in their veins right from the start. Maybe they're saving that for later in the show.

I didn't have a problem with the fire poker thing. He wasn't using it to be effective, he was just buying time.

Gook is a slur originating from the Vietnam/Korean war and was used in reference to those people.

“Yellow” is a slur from WWII in reference to Japanese people. Stormfront in the comics was from that era, so again, it makes perfect sense that she’d use that specific slur especially towards a Japanese person.

Episode 5 was a lot of fun. I agree that at some point, the Boys need to gain a physical advantage. They've been surviving by luck and cunning but that well will run dry at some point.

Eh. Nitpicky. Especially since it was from her standpoint a throwaway phrase when essentially he was the only one there to hear it. The "hackier" part was the whole wanting to see his eyes while he died thing... she just got done with indiscriminate mass murder, but this guy she wanted to savor for no reason. It didn't have to be anything over the top... well, more over the top than killing black bystanders simply because they were in the way of her target and not wort the effort of avoiding.

Personally, I think it sounds like a stupid argument that her racism wasn't racist enough for you. Besides, the way this show likes to play with or subvert such expectations from people familiar with the source material, there might be some more truth behind her little "saying without saying" dance with A-Train. Her comment about regular people being beneath folks with super powers might be more accurate than just an excuse to not say black people in that instance. Kinda like old school Magneto logic. It is possible even regular white people are subhuman scum to her, because they don't have powers. But we shall see.

This show does a good job of showing you how many D Listers there would be if X Men was real life too. I like that some powers are good for certain things but they have no real advantage against deadly weapons.


It's an ever evolving race to figure out what kills them.

And Homelander's only known weakness is that he can't see through zinc of all things.

I just finished the episode where Homelander fucks Stormfront.

I cant figure out why they think Stormfront made that bitches head explode. There is nothing in her powers that would make a head explode and there wasnt any lightening.

I wish there was a bit more seriousness with The Deep. But his ridiculousness is hilarious also.
