My in laws got me the DVD set of seasons 1 and 2 of Cobra Kai for XMas. It even came with a Karate KId headband that is reversable to the Cobra Kai logo.

Now I watched both seasons when they aired on Youtube. ANd the show is great.

It is odd while I grew up in the 80s,turned 6 in 1980,I was never a huge Karate Kid fan. I think part of it was we didn't get cable until 1990,and if I wanted to rent a movie I had already seen my parents would make me pay for the rental.

SO unlike most people my age I didn't see Karate Kid 100 times when TBS or whatever was airing it all the time. Hell I think I have seen the first film maybe 3 times and the second and third ones only once.

Shoot Fighter is great. Grabbed it on VHS a few years ago. Worth tracking down if you like DTV action flicks.

"At Netflix we believe Black Lives Matter.... except for Aisha in Cobra Kai, she was just axed"

Seanny One Ball 09-24-2020 03:48 AM

Did she seriously get fired?

Damian Rey 2.0 09-29-2020 02:30 PM

She made it sound like the upcoming season had no place for her character.

Seanny One Ball 09-29-2020 03:07 PM

Cobra Kai is only for the strong of spirit

Damian Rey 2.0 09-29-2020 03:43 PM

She was kinda useless as a character anyways. Once she got her comeuppance it was over for her. There was nowhere else for her character to go from there.

I read season 3 is supposed to move to Japan.

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-29-2020 04:06 PM

I feel like Robbie should be serving a stint in Juvi for attempted murder.

That school would be world famous after a karate battle like that went down.

God it was glorious.

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-29-2020 04:42 PM

the bulk of the children involved in the fight, at the very least, would have to be expelled. I also imagine , IRL, that Danny, Johnny, and Kreese would be criminally responsible.

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-29-2020 04:43 PM

Woulda potentially been more "hardcore" had they all broke out into an unsanctioned dance-off.

Seanny One Ball 09-29-2020 04:49 PM

Ugh, no.

Karate or gtfo

Ol Dirty Dastard 09-29-2020 04:56 PM

McLegend 10-26-2020 07:55 PM

Just watched the 1st season, and It was great. Billy Zabka fuckin nailed it. He had to be a loser, cool, a dick, and also kind of nice guy all the same time.

Danielsan and Johnny Lawrence are great(like I said above), but all the kids are also really good. I think they got lucky that the kids were able to perform so well. I’m pumped for season 2.

Quick breakdown of the Kid movies since I rewatched them recently.

The Karate Kid- 10/10. Perfect movie and I came to the realization that Myagi> Yoda. Mr. Myagi all time great movie character.

The Karate Kid II- 6/10. It’s better than people remember. It still has it flaws, but the last 10 minutes are the a 10/10. The final fight is an underrated movie fight scene.

Karate Kid III- 0/10, and I never want to watch it again. I hope Terry Silver is in Cobra Kai and either Danielsan or Johnny Lawrence kick his ass in 10 seconds and his arc is finished. He’s the biggest loser villian ever. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mike Stephen’s again, but he was a tad bit too crazy. Again Terry Silver huge loser who sucks.

McLegend 10-26-2020 08:08 PM

The dude from Karate kid III was Mike Barnes. That’s my bad

Seanny One Ball 10-27-2020 02:52 PM

Karate Kid 3 is a fucking crazy film.
It is legitimately as mental as anything I have ever seen before that wasn't trying to be mental.

Terry Silver is chewing up scenery like Faye Dunaway in Mommy Dearest, he's the most cartoonishly Nic Cage villain of all time.

It was gloriously bad.
It really swung for the fences.

McLegend 10-28-2020 11:11 PM

Season 1 is better than 2.

I can’t wait for season 3.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-29-2020 07:54 AM

IMO season 2 is great, especially the last episode where Robbie gives Miguel a traumatic spinal injury.

Season 1 definitely has the "this is a whole new take on the Karate Kid Franchise" momentum. But season 2 holds strong.

McLegend 10-29-2020 11:01 AM

Miguel’s Dad is going to either be Chozen or Mike Barnes right? It can’t be some new character. I feel like everything has to go back to the original movies.

teamXtremist 10-29-2020 04:30 PM

The show started on Youtube. I'm sure whatever small amount of money the production company had to pay the actors, 90% of it went to Macchio (Daniel), Zabka (Johnny), and Kove (Kreese). Hard to find quality actors when they're likely being paid peanuts. The show's success and popularity likely has exceeded their expectations, but now they're stuck with the cast of mediocre actors.

Anecdotally people Gen X types like it like crazy. But maybe they are casting a wider net? IDK, there was so much cringe in season 2 but I held on. lol.

I really like season 2, but I think I would rather rewatch season 1.

The last episode’s fight was great and done really well, but I felt like it was too much. I don’t know how to explain it. I have to think about this more.

Besides feeling bad for Miguel I do bad for Robbie. He had a really bad day and a half there leading up to that final kick.

Yeah season 2 got cringey at times with the high school storylines Esp the Mohawk columbine looking psycho kid.
But the Johnny and Danny scenes make it all worth it imo. The restaurant episode was awesome.

Kreese would probably be considered a legit bad guy, but you might even be right here. The series does a good job of illustrating how Kreese experienced some tough shit down in Vietnam and became conditioned into thinking that one needs to win at all costs and that showing mercy is to one's own peril.

Hawk's back story is well played too, the smiling parent who doesn't have a clue...

I have a feeling that Dmitry and Moon will become a couple in Season Three which will add further tension between Dmitry and Hawk.

Dmitry is like every good friend I had at High School. We were all nerds.

Christ I even love Sam a bit despite her naivety having worse results than a person that actually tries to cause trouble. Still, totally accurate as far as the people I grew up with were.

The Cobra Kai series does an excellent job of explaining and accounting for Hawk's current chosen behaviour.

Not sure if I agree with this. I thought Peyton played the role fairly well. In the last episode where she says, "I'm coming for you bitch," came across as extremely believable for me. I don't have any issues with List's acting at all.

Kenny Powers 12-05-2020 08:57 PM

Predictions for Season III:

1) Terry Silver won't be aligned with Kreese. I think the storyline will reveal at some point that Kreese badly screwed over Terry Silver at some point during their lives and that Terry is now a junkie-drug addict. Johnny will do some background history checks on Kreese and this is how he will learn the name of Terry Silver. Johnny will track down Terry, and Terry will give Johnny some advice about Kreese.

2) Miguel heel turn. Miguel will be a full blown heel in Season 3. After showing mercy to Rob Keane and paying the price for it, Miguel will fully embrace Kreese's philosophies.

3) Chozen will give Daniel some advice in Japan. Chozen will have grown up and matured.

4) Ali Mills will return to the show, and it will be revealed that the reason why she left Daniel in the first place was because he was too obsessed with Karate and Mr. Miyagi.

5) Dmitiri and Moon become an item which adds more fuel and tension between Dmitri and Hawk.

6) Beebop and Rocksteady continue their rivalry, as do those two small kids.

Terry Silver is in Karate Kid 3, he's the grease that Kreese needs.

Imagine if they get Hilary Swank involved. She could be the role model Sam truly listens to.

So many ideas...

I like your Hilary Swank idea. Wouldn't be too farfetched to assume that she's associated with Daniel's family somehow due to the common mutual friend in Miyagi.

I also loved Karate Kid II and III, although an argument can be made that the movies should have happened in reverse orders (i.e. Going to Japan after the Silver/Kreese/Barnes shit).

My only other annoyance with Karate Kid II and III is how Daniel was able to defeat Chozen, yet struggled mightily with Mike Barnes. In theory, Chozen would have been able to beat the living fuck out of Barnes given that Chozen was training military soldiers in Japan.

Pretty much this. Peyton List is pretty much Sam's main rival, while Moon has taken over as Sam's best friend (and in my prediction, Dmitri's future boyfriend).

I think Kyler joining Cobra Kai was a tipping point. Suddenly, he found himself in the bloody fight and he's on fucking Kyler's side beating the shit out of his once bestfriends. It's what snapped him out of it. Plus, he was haunted by breaking Dmitri's arm.

That said, I agree, more focus should have been centered around his struggle. They touched upon his trauma last season and I wish they gave us more.
