Don Jon
7.5/10 |
Just watched the 2014 Godzilla film. Holy fuck this film sucked. Obviously there's the actual lack of Godzilla that most people are aware of by now. The few scenes he appeared in were mostly dark. So dark in fact, that I could barely see anything. And the overall story/plot were horrendously boring.
I don't have a specific rating for it, but let's just say I actually prefer the 1998 movie to this one. |
I remember the trailers featuring Bryan Cranston quite heavily, but he is only in it for the first 20 mins or so.
|
Into the Woods - 5/5
|
Exodus: Gods and Kings - 2.5/5
Got nothing on The Ten Commandments. |
Grown Ups: 7/10
|
Planes, Trains & Automobiles - 6/10
|
Bowfinger - 6/10
Tangled - 9/10 |
The Interview: 2/10. Watch it only if you want to be part of watercooler conversation.
|
Oculus - 8/10
The best "WWE Studios" movie. |
WWE Studios basically pays for movies to be made now. Not alot of WWE Studios movies with superstars anymore.
|
House of the Flying Daggers: 7.4/10
|
The Interview - 7/10
Dunno, maybe I'm rating it higher because I expected it to REALLY suck, and it didn't? I did get a couple of legit LOL moments out of it though. "Don't hate it cause you Anus". That's more because of a joke between my wife and myself. Penguins of Madagascar - 8/10 This was pretty good. Normally movie spin-offs like these can be hit and miss, but I think this was a hit. There was a preview for 'The Minions Movie' before this, and as much as I hate to say it, I feel that will be a miss. But yeah, I enjoyed this thoroughly, as did my daughter who is quite picky with movies. |
She's not too old for the kids movies yet? Cute.

Snowpiercer- 7/10 Pretty good. Would probably rate it a 7/10, but Tilda Swinton's performance raises it up a level. |
Gone Girl (2014) - 8/10
A lot of it seemed ridiculous / not believable but was good and entertaining... Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy? (2013) - 7/10 Interview with Noam Chomsky, animated by Michel Gondry. The interview part was "OK" (some was really good but some was not) because Gondry was asking kinda dumb questions, I think, but love Noam Chomsky and the animation was sweet. |
The Book Thief - 4/5 was pretty ok, I guess...
|
I am Santa Claus
8.5/10. Was thinking I would only care about the Mick Foley part but it was great throughout. Really loved seeing stories about other people who make most if not all of their money playing Santa Claus at Malls, Personal appearances etc. When I was watching I suddenly remembered going to Santa's Village in New Hampshire as a small child. I only take off a few points because the movie seemed to be a little bit too long. They follow alot of Santas though. It didn't have a long run time (89 Minutes) but it seemed to drag a bit. On Netflix currently streaming. |
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit- 7.5/10
I would recommend this to anyone. It was pretty quick, and some pretty good action. I would gladly see some more of these movies with Chris Pine. Sadly I heard they aren't going to make anymore. |
Seven Pounds - 8/10
I'd never watch this movie if it weren't on TV just now, but wow, I really liked it. |
My fiancée bought me that for Xmas...to replace the one she loaned to her parents 2 years ago.
|
The Gambler - ..ehh I dunno, 6/10
Wasn't bad but didn't really do anything for me. John Goodman was pretty good in it. Real cheesy scene at the end dropped it a point for me. |
Force Majeure - Interesting movie about a seemingly perfect family that is torn apart after the dad bails on his family during a "controlled avalanche" during their ski trip. Cinematography was really good. 8/10
Whiplash - I put off watching this for some reason, but I really liked it. JK Simmons is the coolest, I liked seeing him go back to OZ roots playing a real shithead. It felt refreshing that a movie focused on what it takes to be the best wasn't played off as inspirational, it shows the shit and sacrifices of achievement and becoming the best in the world at something. 9/10 Into the Woods - Two long goddamn hours of people singing in the forest. There were a lot of homosexuals in the audience and they seemed to really like it, I would give it a 5/10. |
Lego Movie - 8.5/10
|
Imitation Game. 9/10
|
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014-What a pile of shit. The turtles were too big and looked like shit. Megan Fox is a horrible actress and was badly cast as April. Splinter looked decent but the voice didn't fit him. Plus it "DUDE" Mikey. I hate "DUDE" Mikey. The only people I have talked to that enjoyed it were either kids and fans of that horrible Fred Wolf cartoon or have some serious brain damage. And more than likely think "That's My Boy" is a good film. 0.5 outta 10
Let's be Cops-My girl wanted to see this. She was wanting a comedy. I had no idea that Damon Wayan's son was acting. He was decent in this. And unlike most modern mainstream comedies it at least made me laugh 4 or 5 times. Worth a rental. 6 outta 10 Turtle Power-This is a documentary about the TMNT phenomenon. Starting with the brilliant Mirage Black and white comic. Going to the horrible Fred Wolf cartoon. Then a short bit about the fairly fun Archie comics produced TMNT Adventures comic. The three live action films and the 2000s animated one are covered. Even the almost as bad as the Fred Wolf cartoon,Live action TMNT the next mutation gets some lip service. I enjoyed hearing about how much hands on Peter Laird had with the 4kids cartoon and the current Nick cartoon. This is mostly after how Fred Wolf took the original concept and turned it into shit. 8 outta 10 |
You seem to be a TMNT fan based on your viewing habits in that post... you seen Turtles Forever yet? It's a pretty cool project (made-for-TV, I think) that combined several iterations of TMNT over the years. Worth a watch for any TMNT fan.

I have it but haven't seen it yet. I really liked the 4kids cartoon. Still need to see the Fast Forward season. So far the only TMNT shows or films I didn;t like were. 1.The Fred Wolf cartoon, yeah I get it for an entire generation this was their cartoon as a kid. So they look back on it fondly. Hell I am dating someone that loves this cartoon. But to me they went too far into the kid direction with that cartoon. I find the first film to be a perfect blend of the original Mirage TMNT mythos with a tiny dash of the Fred Wolf cartoon. 2.TMNT the next mutation. What a pile of shit. So bad that right after it finished airing Eastmand and Laird disowened it. And for years pretended like it didn't happen. 3.Micheal Bay TMNT movie,I gave this a try and holy shit balls is it horrible. But I can see where if you are a fan of the Fred Wolf cartoon how you would enjoy it. It wasn;t just the story and acting, the CGI looked like shit and the Turtles were way way too big. |
Maze Runner 7 outta 10
Went in expecting a subpar Hunger Games ripoff. Got instead a pretty fun movie. That just when you think you got it figured out the rug gets pulled out from under you. Ignore the trailers, which to me made the film look bad. |
The Fred Wolf cartoon was my entire childhood. They had me hook line and sinker... had all the toys and everything. The more recent ones they've done (2003 or so?) were pretty good.
Still haven't seen the new movie yet |
Maze Runner to me, based off the trailers, looked like a kids movie... might have to czech it out
|
Anyway uhhh this week I saw Imitation Game. Was surprised at how true to real life events it was. Cumberbatch was great in it. Kiera Knightly was very good as well, better than I expected. Movie wasn't as "dramatic" as I was expecting, didn't seem like there was a ton of drama or w/e but I really really enjoyed it. 9/10

It is a kids film. But a really well done one. That turns fairly dark right at the end. |

Yep that cartoon along with Power Rangers is a major touchstone for a certain generation.Mary couldn't understand why I hated it so much. Then I got her to read the first 10 issues of the Mirage first TMNT series. And then she got it. |
Left Behind-2014
Saw this because some friends want to see every Nic Cage film made after Leaving Las Vegas. Wasn't as bad as I expected. Not nearly as preachy as I expected. Worth a rental. 5 outta 10 |
Edge of tomorrow /Live die repeat 7.5
I liked it probably more than i should have |
Foxcatcher 7/10
Testament of Youth 8.5/10 |
The Chaperone starring Paul Levesque. 9/10
|
Mean Girls: 6/10
|
Labor Day: 8/10
A very unintentionally funny, yet engrossing chick flick. |
