El Capitano Gatisto 11-16-2009 12:44 PM

Tried to play a bit this evening (on PS3), got an update required message. Patch downloads ok, then has an error during install and now the game won't load at all. Anyone else have this problem? What a load of bollocks.

El Capitano Gatisto 11-16-2009 12:49 PM

Oh never mind, tried downloading again and now it's fine.

Kalyx triaD 11-16-2009 01:24 PM

Does anyone know how to play objective gametypes?!?!?!? Jesus Christ the CoD community have shit else but reflex aiming. There's no sense of 'capture team/defense team' during CTF, everyone just runs around. Nobody flanks for shit in Domination, they just keep going the way to a post and hope the enemy forgot about them 15 seconds before. People seem over faggoty for their KD ratio no matter waht gametype they play. Keep in mind the scoring systems weighs priority objectives, which is why I would have the top score in a game while having a negative KD ratio.

The funny thing is, if I so dare mention Halo everyone in the lobby would shit on me. But in Halo, people actually play objective games as they should (more often than not, anyway). Nobody plays the clock when they're ahead in CTF, this in particular pisses me off. We're two ahead, but hey, "let's try to catch the flag some more anyway for shits and giggles!" Right? Wrong. No defense give the other team infiltration options and after everybody spawns from sucking so bad the flag thief is just about home.

I've had bad games with other shooters, but in the community that stressed how hardcore their game was over others, I expected more strategy . My buddy plays SOCOM on PS3 and that community puts just about any other to shame in terms of coordination and execution. I'd think CoD would be like that.

Anyway, I can't wait til I dual wield some Desert Eagles. There's something satisfying about spraying the shit out of a loser.

yeah.

Note that I got more kills than the rest of my team by actually trying to meet the objective of the match. Everyone else was just boosting their kill count.

I feel you on this Kalyx. I hate when people get so anal about their K/D ratio. I was playing HQ the other night and went something like 19 kills and 26 deaths. There was a shithead on my team who went 3/2 b/c he was camped the whole time not even trying to help capture/destroy the HQ. As soon as the game ended the first thing out of his mouth when we got back to the lobby was "Well I was the only person on my team that went positive" and I was like WTF dude.

El Capitano Gatisto 11-16-2009 02:28 PM

It is a bit fucking stupid at times. It helps when there's a couple of guys on the mic who are in it to play properly and they tell other people where to go.

Levels like Favela and Karachi are a fucking mess if you have a bunch of dickheads on your team.

Don't know why the campers et al. just don't stick to Deathmatch?

Fryza 11-16-2009 02:41 PM

I feel bad for the house in Estate. It was a nice home 'til some fuckjobs ran in and started shooting the place up.

Johnny McNasty 11-16-2009 03:12 PM

Yeah it is a pain in the ass when my team work on nothing but their kill count while playing objective games. Even worse when the dumb asses are my friends.

I wish they had more hardcore game modes, loved hardcore headquarters from 4, and hardcore ffa from 5. Speaking of ffa what is with there only being like 4 maps to play ffa on. I see how some of them might be too big,(derail) but some others would work just fine.(karachi) Hope when the new map packs come out they're all playable on ffa. Also demolition is my favorite new game mode definitely, nothing like setting the bomb at both targets at the same time and watching the other team freak out.

Oh and akimbo lever action shotguns are stupendously bad ass.

Emperor Smeat 11-16-2009 05:40 PM

Potential huge news is Activision might be thinking of charging to play Call of Duty multiplayer in either new modes or future CoD games. It would be similar to play World of Warcraft's monthly fee.

I think thats the problem, they say they are the most hardcore shooter players but only in getting the most kills/best ratio. Instead of viewing the perks as strategy, its seen as extra kill potential.

Its a common problem with a lot of shooters that try strategy, most end up just as run-n-gun or campfests. A few like SOCOM, Halo, and Team Fortress end up succeeding since either strategy is built in by the way of a class-system or by how the levels are designed.

The Destroyer 11-16-2009 06:00 PM

Yeah I'm beginning to get frustrated with people just in it for the kills. Was irritating in a Domination game when 3 of us were trying to grab a heavily defended position B and half the team was just sitting around by C waiting to snipe kills. All this while the other side also held A, so basically they were helping us lose.

Ogen 11-16-2009 06:07 PM

It really is a rather fantastic game though isn't it, just great fun. Must start using a different gun at some stage, been using the very first gun the whole time but that with the heartbeat sensor and silencer through Bling Perk is just so fucking amazing. Almost at level 25 that'll be cold blooded unlocked and I go into my uber stealthy hardcore ways

The Destroyer 11-16-2009 06:09 PM

I'm having great success with a sniper rifle and the heartbeat sensor.

I'm not entirely sure why it's letting me use the heartbeat sensor in the preset sniper class when I haven't actually unlocked it yet to use in custom classes, but who am I to argue?

Ogen 11-16-2009 06:13 PM

Some of the pro versions of the perks are a bit shit, just unlocked Scrambler Pro and it simply delays claymores detonating when you walk by. I don't think I've seen a claymore in this at all really.

The Destroyer 11-16-2009 06:15 PM

I've seen a few. Most often on Highrise to guard the sneaky route into one side of the building.

Short range perk on a long range gun? How is that giving you great success

I had that, but if you take Cold Blooded you lose Stopping Power. Tried that for one game and got sick of having to pump a million bullets into people only for them to nail me with a couple of shots. Doesn't really get any better than Heartbeat Sensor, Scrambler and Thermo scope on your Sniper rifle, with a souped up machine pistol for running around the place.

Tells you when someone is trying to sneak up on you.

G 11-16-2009 06:46 PM

stop coming at me with this common sense

The range on the Heartbeat Sensor is long enough, plus let's you see other dickheads hiding in buildings.

Not much good for the city levels though because it flags up people everywhere and they are on different floors. Becomes more of a problem than a help then.

That too, especially if you're guarding a point in Domination.

Yeah but be playing Hardcore then I think and in Hardcore you don't really need to shoot them much, first shooter will win nearly all the time.

G 11-16-2009 06:48 PM

finished act 2 on veteran earlier. this really is easy stuff. teammates do most of the work while i hide and watch the flank. gonna hopefully finish by the weekend.

OssMan 11-16-2009 07:04 PM

This one mission takes place in the suburbs of Northern Virginia. Fuck yeah

Helps that there is apparently no infinite enemies in this one.

G 11-16-2009 07:16 PM

and grenades aren't spammed

G 11-16-2009 09:45 PM

finished that shit. only real problem was the fucking boat part getting shot the fuck up. gotta find that "safe" route otherwise you're fucked

I miss the dedicated PC servers :(

LoDownM 11-16-2009 10:14 PM

lol. The AC130 should fire like that all the time.

D Mac 11-16-2009 10:57 PM

Demolition is the worst fucking thing ever. I'd rather have War game mode from World at War.

Kalyx triaD 11-17-2009 01:11 AM

I gotta say, even though the M4A1 is the first assault rifle, I'm probably never gonna change it unless that M16 is wildly badass. I've grown attached.

"Pro"-Tip: When you use the Riot Shield (hilarious watching the enemy retread from your turtling terror!), equip the throwing knife. It's a quick projectile option without switching to a gun. I ran up on a guy who backed down and he went for a grenade throw. I tossed a knife at his ass. It didn't kill him, but I went right back to shield and avoided the blast radius to fight on.

And on shields: So I'm getting shot at, bouncing off the bullets and getting free points, and I'm wondering, "Where are my teammates? Does anyone see this orange dot on their radar?" lol

OssMan 11-17-2009 01:17 AM

Fucking love that riot shield. That melee attack is the best thing ever. Most satisfying kill no doubt. What I want to know is when you switch to your secondary weapon and have the riot shield on your back is your back protected from bullets? Seems like it should be also something that the developers would ignore.

Kalyx triaD 11-17-2009 01:22 AM

Yes the back is protected. I switch to a weapon and sprint for some added back protection. Great for CTF flag runs. Forward protection is great for distractions and taking a Domination post right before the enemies eyes.

D Mac 11-17-2009 01:39 AM

Went back and played a little COD 4 and there were only 9000 players online.

D Mac 11-17-2009 01:40 AM

Too bad they didn't add Old School Free for All in MW2. It's fun.

Kalyx triaD 11-17-2009 03:28 AM

Salute your Captain, men. I'm Lv40. Gonna see if that M16 is worth a bone or two. Had some killer Domination games.

Fignuts 11-17-2009 03:41 AM

Played like two matches tonight. Wasn't feeling it.

Me 2. Yeah M16 is good.

LoDownM 11-17-2009 03:49 AM

Didn't play on Sunday or I'd be 45 instead of 40.
