ner ner ner ner ner?

PSIcological 11-23-2004 12:09 PM

well would you believe it, andy hessenthalers only gone and stepped down. It justs boosts my respect for the guy. He's given us years of brilliant service as a player and now through all the stick he's getting, he's realised he can't cut the mustard as a mkanager and has stepped down to being only a player. So heres to you mr hessenthaler

The Mackem 11-23-2004 12:24 PM

yeah but John Gorman? oh dear

Ogen 11-23-2004 01:13 PM

Barca are offering Larrsson a one year extensio despite his injury. Nice move by them shows how good he is. Dunno if he'll take it mind since he wants time in Sweeden

Danny Electric 11-23-2004 01:20 PM

Nice move there by Barca.
I'm not looking foward to the Monaco game.

Rob 11-23-2004 01:53 PM

Larrson would have won himself another contract anyway.

And have to say that Eto'o was hella impressive on Saturday night.

besides, i hope we'll look outside for the new guy. Micky adams may be aiming high but apparently he's desperate to get back to football in any way and ex-player for us as well

Danny Electric 11-23-2004 05:37 PM

I think someone has to explain to the ref what handball is.
Poor match, poor pitch and now we have fuck all up front.

Dazz 11-23-2004 05:43 PM

It wasn't a clear cut handball from the refs view, I didn't spot it first time.

So he's a top official, those kind of decisions cost money to clubs and can change seasons.
I'm going to be biased but the ref had a bit of a poor match, not helped by Maicon taking 15 rolls on the ground to get Didi Hamman booked who we're now missing as well for the next match.

Dazz 11-23-2004 06:00 PM

Shit happens, get over it. Decisions are always missed, Morientes handled the ball into the next at Stamford Bridge last season but I didn't cry about it because I didn't spot it first time, shit like that happens more then you think.

Yeah I know shit happens but I bet if that was a Chelsea game, you'd be pretty pissed off right now.

Dazz 11-23-2004 07:27 PM

What did I just say, the same thing happened to us last season against the same team. Drogba was denied a penalty against Villa and booked for diving earlier in the season too, Drogba's booking as taken back because the ref admitted he was wrong. shit happens, its annoying, it happens, get over it. If you were good enough today to at least get a draw you would be able to score a goal, not scoring means you don't deserve anything from a game in my opinion.

The thing about the Liverpool ref is he said (unless I misheard something) that he saw it was handball :wtf:

Also Danny I would've thought Gerrard and Alonso would be your best central midfield pairing anyway? :$

I think both teams were pretty poor and we didn't deserve the win but I felt that we deserved a point.
It's pretty hard to scored when after the first minute Gracia gets taken off and you have to play most of the match with Mellor up front on his own.

Mad European ref.
Yeah I would expect them to play in central midfield for the Olympiakos match but Hamman would have done a decent job keeping out Rivaldo and Giovanni, giving Gerrard the option to move further up the field.
Plus it also means we have someone on the bench if one of them is having a poor match or gets injured.

yianni 11-24-2004 10:24 AM

Olympiakos top of the group :D. Hopefully Panathinaikos also grab a win tomorrow, away to Rosenborg and Arsenal loses away against PSV to set up a thrilling Matchday 6.

Banned from soccer grounds for 5 years, wow. Bet he wishes he didn't "have a drink before the match" now.

Rob 11-24-2004 02:45 PM

Some Dundee fan got a life ban for racial abuse towards Momo Sylla and Bobo Balde of Celtic. The dude that grassed him better not go back to Dens Park if he likes life. Bad thing to say but it's not as serious at Scottish grounds as it is in most other places. I've been to enough games to know you can tell it's pure wind up (not an excuse for it at all). I remember being at Villa Park at Euro 96 and Patrick Kluivert took the worst abuse I have ever heard aimed at a player - No black insults but more murderer and rapists insults than I can remember. Kluivert was literally close to tears but people were laughing when he went on and joking amongst themselves that they actually liked him.

Thats Portsmouth fucked unfortunatley since I liked them. Mandaric is a idiot for insisting on that new bloke since it seems to be where the trouble ahs come from. Hope to see Redknapp back in football.

Dazz 11-24-2004 08:31 PM

Yeah I got on the train to Waterloo from Portsmouth and SOuthsea about the time of the conference, so I got off in Fratton, went to the ground, patted Redknapp on the arm, and better then that was in the Background on BBC's news earlier when they interviewed Smith, as I was standing right behind him.

Chin up RBF.

Rob 11-24-2004 08:39 PM

Portsmouth will be relegated in the next 2 years (might just struggle and survive this year but down next).

Dazz 11-24-2004 09:05 PM

For once Rob, I agree with you.

Mr. Monday Morning 11-25-2004 11:04 AM

Harry Redknapp has described the vacant Wolves manager's job as "a great job for somebody".

Redknapp was installed as the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Dave Jones at the struggling Coca-Cola Championship club after resigning as Portsmouth boss yesterday.

However, it is thought unlikely he would leave the south with former Pompey star Paul Merson last night claiming "he lives in a lovely part of the world and I can't see Harry moving."

Redknapp has admitted one club has already been in touch with him, although he refused to identify them.

But he told BBC Sport: "Let's not kid ourselves, Wolves is a great club and they're a bit like when I first went to Pompey.

"Everyone told me that was a sleeping giant that I would never wake up, but Wolves have already been woken up."

Wolves have delayed naming a successor to Jones, who was sacked on November 1, with Sir Bobby Robson - currently negotiating the terms of his departure from Newcastle - also linked with the post.

Former Leicester boss Micky Adams, ex-West Brom manager Gary Megson and former Aston Villa boss John Gregory have also been linked with the Molineux post.

But Redknapp added: "Dave Jones did a great job in getting Wolves into the Premiership, but unfortunately they went down.

"But they have great support, a terrific stadium and it's a great job for somebody."

oh my :$

Rob Ban Fan 11-25-2004 11:06 AM

I personally don't think we will go down, purely because there are 3 teams worse than us in this league but if we do go down, oh well. Had a good 3 seasons, beat United twice, beat Liverpool twice, drew with Arsenal twice and ive always said div 1 was a great league anyway. Playing Crewe and Rotherham isnt as aweful as some people would have you believe, probably just as aweful as watching Birmingham or Everton grind out a result but with more banter between the fans.

anyway... I just read this article on the BBC website which pretty much sums up the way most Portsmouth fans feel right now.

just heard that the big deal in the tunnel after the Arsenal match wasn't pizza, soup or any other food.Apparently the Arsenal players wouldn't swap shirts with any of the United players because underneath their own shirts they had 50 NOT OUT blazoned on T-shirts that they were going to display if the match went their way.

hahaha

Ogen 11-25-2004 01:57 PM

You didn't know that until now? That's why Celtic nor Leeds could sign him after the 2002 World Cup. His fiance was 15 and he couldn't bring her over with him until he could legally marry her.

I'm not sure what the age of consent is in Brazil or anything, but he's a creepy guy. He's not that much older than her, though, I think.

jerichoholic169 11-27-2004 11:37 AM

wow over three months into the season and RVN has finally scored from open play. and scholes has scored two in two. hopefully that's our problems with goalscoring done with and we can attempt to climb back upto third place by the end of the season.

Rob 11-27-2004 01:01 PM

3rd place? You serious? We are only 3 points off Arsenal and 99 off Chelsea. We still have to play both of them and they still have to play each other twice. League is still wide open.

jerichoholic169 11-27-2004 01:09 PM

yeah but tbh i cant see us with this squad getting higher than arsenal or chelsea. unless RVN scores 30 league goals and carroll turns into the new schmeichel. remember we have to go TO arsenal and by the time they'll be back in form. as for chelsea.....they're looking really strong.

Dazz 11-27-2004 01:19 PM

Wow, Rob has been correct twice in a week. Chelsea have to play United at the Theatre of Silence, the Arse at home and the Library and the Geordies and Scousers in their ow back yards. with three out of four of them happening in April.

Like Neville, Fergie and Rooney have all said, you have a chance of winning the league still. More accuartley, like Fergie says, the league table means shit all until January. I still doubt United will not finish outside the top two.

Rob Ban Fan 11-27-2004 04:33 PM

Well we got over a week of turmoil and got a result at Bolton that im very pleased with, while they are very much an over achieving team of hoofers that are absolutly horrible to watch, beating Bolton away is a good result.

Oh and for those people that got upset when I said I hope Diouf got injured. This is from the BBC match report:

"And as Bolton's frustrations grew El-Hadji Diouf seemed to spit at De Zeeuw. "

Now obviously im biased but if you can find anyone to say a bad word about de Zeeuw (apart from Dazz, but his reasons are gay) then you try. He is a complete professional, 100% effort, clean, fair and honest player and ive met him off the pitch and he is cushty there too. So I honestly doubt he did anything to wind up Diouf but even if he did, spitting is disgusting whatever. Now by my count thats 3 times he's been accused of spitting, twice against fans, the guy is a cheat and a scumbag and I seriously hope he suffers a serious injury because when he does, it will be funny as fuck.

jerichoholic169 11-27-2004 06:37 PM

yep on MotD they had a rant at diouf about this. he spat at the celtic fans, an 11 year old middlesborough fan and then today at de Zeeuw. And de Zeeuw was really proffesional when asked about it as well. i hope they throw the book at him this time. two things i hate about football: divers and ppl who spit. so i really dont like diouf. and its a shame cos hes a really talented footballer.

Cactus Sid 11-27-2004 07:12 PM

I hope Diouf gets what's coming to him, because he's a disgrace to football.

The Mackem 11-27-2004 07:16 PM

Owen, I will have to slap you for saying "cushty".

Anyway, the lads just keep on winning, only about two points off top right now. Hopefully the young uns can keep it up.

Rob 11-27-2004 07:40 PM

Diouf is a filthy cu</>nt. Kick the bitch out of the sport and let him go home.

Dazz 11-27-2004 08:48 PM

Owen, can you honestly say my opinions on De Zeeuw suck? Diouf twice got round him with ease, he is a pile of shit, he did a good block and that was it, I stand by my 'he is a fat, slow and shit defender' accusation. Not a bad goal, but a good centre back would have scored two goals today ( )

But he was very professional about the spit, like Shearer said, another footballer may have sparked him. to De Zeeuw's credit he was obviously annoyed but his reaction was about as good as you could get, keep your temper, follow him and say what you like, but just don't lose it. And he his comments after the match were good aswell, I'd like to see that pussy Diouf get into a fist fight, I bet he is a pussy, he only looks hard because he is black.

Rob 11-27-2004 08:50 PM

What a result. I was pissed off that Arsenal might get a point after scoing once from two shots on goal. They desrved nothing from the game and I laughed my head off at Viera's dive. I would have loved to see him be sent off.
What a fucking goal by Mellor, I want mental in the pub. The Arsenal fans all looked liked they were going to cry. :)

Viera did dive, Hamman didn't touch him and he went flying on to the ground. But if he told the ref it wasn't a foul then fair play to him.
I missed the first ten minutes of the match so I didn't see the dispute at the beginning.

toxic rooster 11-28-2004 07:21 PM

I'd rate that dive in the second minute as about as bad as Rooney's. Ref had a top class game though, can't complain there.

We were awful though, we didn't deserve anything from that game. :(

Yeah I read on Sky Sports that it was like Rooney's.
It's a shame to see Stevie do that but he had a great game and Xabi Alonso is fucking amazing.
The weakest part of our game tonight(in my opinion) was Harry Kewell, he lost the ball too many times.

packt up 11-29-2004 04:24 AM

Yeah Viera fell but was like saying it wasn't a foul as he was going down.

Gerrard fell like a diving bastard a la Rooney except he did it to the wrong ref whilst wearing the wrong shirt at the wrong stadium :(

Wengerland 11-29-2004 05:35 AM

With all the pundits saying Toure touched him so that probably took Gerrard down, at the speed he was going.

That said there wasn't as much of a contact as the fall made out.

That's pretty unanimous.

As for the penalty shout, I honestly thought he was going to give it when I first saw it, but like Rooney's I couldn't tell it was a dive first time because of the camera angle.

Doink 11-29-2004 06:42 AM

boro are appealing against french franks red card, after watching the replays i can see why, he went for the ball, his eyes were on the ball at all times and it was malicious at all. fair enough he shouldnt have gone in with 2 feet but i feel a yellow would have been more deserved.

saying that the way he's been playing latly we could do without him in the team, yesterdays red card follows 2 games in a row were he has got scinned and cost us a goal. also i feel sorry for young tony mcmahon, he was having a quality game (again) yesterday but yet again maclaren takes him off and brings on reizeger when we are chasing a game, and yet again within 2 minutes of him coming on we conside a goal. also schartzer got beat at his near post again, when will he learn?

You wont get it rescinded, when we played Leicester last season Geremi did a two footed lunge and 100% took the ball, but was sent off as it was a slide challenege, I think we appealed but nothing happened.

Gotta admit, at first I thought it was a pen, the same with Rooney, but he definetly went for it. I dunno if Toure brushed his knee or not, but even so, it was a dive, and it pisses me off when Liverpool players act like cocks on the pitch (see previous comments about Diouf and Liverpool players (led by Kewell) taking balls into the corner).

Dazz 11-29-2004 07:31 AM

Yeah Robben takes the ball into the corner and goes down theatrically, thats my only beef with him. Gerrard looked to be going down before there was even any chance of contact.

well hopefully the match of the day 2 tv evidence last night that showed defoe doing more or less the same thing but his looked worse will help us. Defoe only got a yellow for his and again he clearly won the ball like franck did. and if it doesnt get recinded we allways have  super colin cooper  to fill in for him but knowing mclaren he will put zenden there and put nemeth on the right with parlour moving inside one!

I only saw the Queudrue thing today, i don't know why he was going in like that in the first place, it's not as if most players jump on the ball so there was a bit of intent to get Pamarot.

On the diving thing we had Lee Morris doing that on saturday but he got a few groans/jeers for it and was subbed at half time.

Also, Kewell was terrible.

Viera only apologised because he quickly remembered that he was already on a yellow.
He didn't fall, it was a clear dive and everyone in the pub said the same thing. A packed pub with about only 2 Liverpool supporters in there.
