It's a Bautista Bomb!

Simple Fan 04-12-2015 08:32 PM

Hell of a first for the Yankees.

Evil Vito 04-12-2015 08:37 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Pretty pissed off at Buchholz for that inning. Not because I care about who wins this game but because I have nothing else to watch. Looks like it'll be a MLB 15 The Show night for me.

That's gotta feel good for Yankees fans though after an otherwise miserable first week.</font>

The dex fowler bomb was great to see. Haven't felt that excited for cubs baseball in 5 or 6 years. The great piece of hitting by Wellington Castillo before that is going to get lost in the shuffle.

Never understood why they felt such a pressing need to sign David Ross.

DaveWadding 04-13-2015 12:56 AM

because Jon Lester.

Frank Drebin 04-13-2015 08:52 AM

Dumb move

Great win for the Yankees last night. Now if they can only hit like that every day.

Defense is still shoddy.

All I've been able to think all day is how excited I am Vito Cruz is finally going to get to see Matt Harvey pitch at Citi Field

road doggy dogg 04-14-2015 07:09 PM

Rod Allen isn't calling this game against Pittsburgh. Jack Morris, legend that he is at baseballing, is no Rod Allen. I don't even want to watch this.

Frank Drebin 04-14-2015 09:16 PM

Is Carter Capps' delivery illegal? What say yall? Doesn't Jordan Walden do something similar?

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-14-2015 09:54 PM

Looks like a good way to break your ankle. Seems illegal. The pitch doesn't start until he is off the mound.

road doggy dogg 04-14-2015 10:28 PM

I liked the Shane Greene trade when we made it, and even moreso now that he's pitched two gems. Great find for the Tigers.

Evil Vito 04-14-2015 10:37 PM

<font color=goldenrod>One of the weirdest fucking games I've ever seen. Harvey pitching, multiple umpire reviews, a bogus catcher's interference call, several hit batters, benches warned, manager ejected. Cuddyer AND Wright both leaving via injury, leaving the Mets to finish and win the game with backup catcher Anthony Recker at third. Recker has never played a professional game at third base.

Anyway, a win's a win. Wright pulled hammy though. Dude has been locked in to start the year. Allmost certainly a DL stint, those injuries can linger. Time to see what the team is really made of when you go through a game like that.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>Still baffled at that game. Only way it could have gotten weirder would have been if d'Arnaud got ejected for arguing catcher's interference. Then the infield shuffle at the end would have resulted in Jacob deGrom playing shortstop for the first time since college.</font>

Bud Norris is trying to win his first 5 starts vs the Yankees, only 2 other pitchers have won their first 5 starts vs the Yankees Since 1914

Quote:

The only pitchers since 1914 to open their careers with five victories in as many outings over baseball's most storied franchise are Bernie Boland, who did it with Detroit between 1915-17 and Charlie Hough, who accomplished the feat for Texas from 1982-83.

I really like this idea and I hope you keep it updated all season. :)

Frank Drebin 04-16-2015 09:25 PM

Interesting replay call in the marlins/mets game just now. MLB replays way more unpredictable than NFL. Same logic to draw our own conclusions can't necessarily be used. Feel like an NFL ref would have just been like "fuck it, call stands"

Evil Vito 04-16-2015 09:38 PM

<font color=goldenrod>I'm obviously biased given that it's the Mets but I just don't see how anything can be conclusive/irrefutable if it takes 5 minutes to reach a decision.

Replay official said they could determine Travis d'Arnaud didn't tag Ichiro. I can only assume Miami's TV had a better angle because SNY didn't have anything.</font>

Evil Vito 04-16-2015 09:40 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Also the other thing - the replay clearly showed Ichiro didn't get the tag in until his second dive, which was after the ump already called out. d'Arnaud didn't try to dive after him because he saw the ump rule Ichiro out.

The new replay rules basically mean you need to ignore the ump and keep playing if there is any doubt in your mind about the call.</font>

Cubs promoting Kris Bryant to the main club due to Mike Olt getting injured recently. Cubs also managed to get past the deadline needed in order to get the extra year added before free agency.

:D Walk-off win for the Red Sox tonight.

Struggled until mid-game with a potential no hitter against them and turned it around once the Os starter left the game.

Droford 04-17-2015 11:30 PM

Which was bullshit since Ubaldo should have never been ejected. I don't believe it was retaliation for Sandovals slide trying to take out Schoop at 2nd. Should have just been warnings.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-18-2015 12:39 AM

It was a good spot to do if it was intentional. Putting a guy on 1st with two outs and the guy up next is hitting like .180.

If you don't think it was retaliation then why should he be warned? Or why should the Sox be warned too? They did nothing wrong.

<font color=goldenrod>I don't know what the funniest part of this clip is. The way Christian Yelich struck out, the delayed crowd reaction to the win because everybody was focusing on the flying bat, or Alex Torres' headgear.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>The Good: Mets win their 8th game in a row, all against the NL East

The Bad: Today was very costly. Jerry Blevins fractured his forearm in the top of the 7th inning. He was their only true lefty specialist and he had been a perfect 15 for 15 retiring lefty batters this year. Then in the bottom of the 7th Travis d'Arnaud fractured his right hand getting hit by a pitch. He's been their best offensive player this week and his defense has been world's better than last year.

A mediocre team would let these type of injuries weigh them down, so hopefully that doesn't happen here. I'm more concerned about the Blevins injury since the Mets will be calling up top prospect Kevin Plawecki to fill in at catcher.</font>

Cubs game was V fun tonight. Totally different vibe watching this team compared to last year. They are playing a bit over their heads though. Alot of those Castro rbi hits have been more of the seeing eye variety rather than the hard hit kind. I'll stand by my feelings that make the playoffs or not, this may be the most exciting team to watch.

Emperor Smeat 04-21-2015 11:36 PM

Cubs doing their part to make sure the Back to the Future prophecy comes true. Now just need a way to get Miami in the AL and make the World Series a "Best of 9" to complete it.

Frank Drebin 04-21-2015 11:52 PM

Still not sold on the pitcher batting 8th. Their record says otherwise though. La Russa did this alot hitting your schumakers and descalsos of the world 9th, and even he stopped doing it. I get the theory of it but the other new age thing is to have your best hitter up in the 2 spot to get him more ABs, so doesn't that mean you are also giving your worst hitter more ABs as well.?

Sounds like Nathan is gonna have Tommy John. Probably career-ender at this point. Had a pretty awful run with the Tigers when he came over but can't deny that he's been a beast his entire career. Shitty way to end a career if this is truly the end for him.

Evil Vito 04-23-2015 12:10 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah that's never a good way to end your career. :( The stat line for his final season is pretty boss at least:

Evil Vito 04-23-2015 04:52 PM

I would love nothing more than to sweep in the Bronx. Hard to fathom though...Yankees have been playing well this week and overall it's pretty rare for either side to sweep the Subway Series anymore.

Just win the series and I'll be happy. Especially if they grab game 1 to clinch sole possession of best streak in team history. </font>
