I'm ambivalent to boosting for acheivements. It cheats the system, but you can't devalue something which is already dumb and worthless.

If there's an in-game impact, though,, ban the fuckers.

The sad thing is, a lot of the latter don't get banned.

The way it works, you can't get banned for having a bad rep and I presume it would mean nothing unless a studio wanted to use it (rage quitters in fighting games would add to bad rep, and then rage quit hell would actually work this time).

So community policing should affect reputation, but something like system bans or suspensions will more than likely be for hacks and console flashing.

You seem to be assuming it'll work as advertised. Which is something Microsoft tends not to do.

Besides, nothing stops someone from filing a complaint instead of just submitting a player review. I've been in quite a few lobbies in multiplayer games where people ask everyone in the lobby to report a guy for cheating because he's rubbed someone the wrong way (and I don't mean actually being a dick. It usually comes down to "he killed me" or "he's too good" or "his play style is different from mine")

Microsoft's enforcement team is still shrouded in dark magic. I've seen people file BBB complaints just to find out why they were banned. I oppose this system for that last bit alone.

Granted, I have no sympathy for hackers and cheaters who get banned. And it's really funny watching a guy complain he was banned for no reason only to find a screencap of him advertising hacks or something online.

Is that accurate? Based on what I've read, I think you're misinterpreting things, but I could be wrong. Got any specific on that?

Kalyx triaD 06-15-2013 02:56 PM

I'm betting a ban would include sharing lists under a users gamertag, so yeah those shared games would suddenly be inaccessible.

I've never been banned or so much as got a warning for anything and I can't say I much sympathy for people who cheat so this is one piece of hardware news I don't really mind.

They covered that in the report (posting it later):

The system will not accept complaints from people who had no interaction with the 'defendant', and the system will also account for complaints stated versus actual in game actions. So ambiguous things like 'he's too good/not good enough' aren't a tally for suspensions/bans.

In fact the new system is one of the few things that came out kinda clear.

I got it slightly mixed up.

The Gold system is being expanded to include multiple people on a single account while sharing is up to 10 people on a console. Only sharing was actually specified a number.

http://penny-arcade.com/report/artic...t-some-details

After that it gets a bit sketchy since Microsoft wasn't completely clear but its being stated as either strictly just 1 person playing at anytime or 2 people are possible (1 shared & 1 original owner).

Kalyx triaD 06-15-2013 08:39 PM

Imagine Halo 5 shared with ten people, 9 sales down the drain. I doubt you can all plat at once.

Of course, the people in this scenario all did have an interaction with the defendant, still making it an issue. Maybe not so much for you if all you play is fighting games...

One question that seems to have a clear answer is whether banned users will lose access to any games they've activated, as he stated "Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased." That goes against a previous response from the Xbox Support twitter account, although that may have been the result of confusion between the Xbox One and Xbox 360 policies. A question with no satisfying response yet however, is what gamers can expect years down the road if Xbox One's authentication servers are shut down. Major Nelson followed up with a response in the comment thread that "I'll get the real answer, I just don't know it yet."

Man, they do not have their shit together.

Kalyx triaD 06-16-2013 02:54 AM

Just so we're clear, it seems highly unlikely that you would get banned on bad rep alone. You seem to be dancing around that, KK. Microsoft has a lot of problems but this system appears pretty simple to grasp. Did you read the article?

People have been banned on Xbox Live for receiving legitimate copies of a game early. Also look at what EA have done with Origin. Some people got banned from the forums and consequently got locked out of their entire Origin collection.

Enjoy playing multiplayer with a load of other suckers

I'm not dancing around it. I'm not even talking about rep currently. I don't know what you don't understand there.

Just to be clear, you do understand there's a difference between repping someone and reporting them, right? In the current system, the one I've been addressing?

And by "the article," do you mean the one you said you'd post and didn't? Because it's not very specific to say "the article" when we have several that touch upon this.

I've read a bunch of them. I may have missed some. I certainly didn't read the one you didn't post. I hope that clarifies things.

Has there ever been a legit instance of this? I know there was a lot of scare mongering, but I don't think I ever saw a real instance of this.

The Rogerer 06-16-2013 12:46 PM

There were lots of stories of this around the time of Halo 4. I didn't think it would all be piracy, I'm sure there were people on Neogaf at the time showing their copies and their bans, but who knows.

Kalyx triaD 06-16-2013 04:16 PM

People had their stats reset, but there were no bans for early players of Halo 4. 343 made clear their were no bans. I remember that debacle. It had much to do with a campaign against Halo 4 for having so many changes and shifting developers. There are still such silliness as '343 banning people who speak ill of them in forums', none of which confirmed.

The Origin thing was unfortunate.

I don't think I'm a sucker for wanting to play Titanfall. I'm aware of Microsoft's sillier practices and weighed them against where the games I play would be. Multiplatform games aside, Xbone has the games, simple as that. Then comes Wii U, with first party gold. The PS4 is much more consumer friendly, but it doesn't have the exclusives on top of the multiplatform games.

I'm not trying to make friends with companies, I wanna play badass games. Good gestures are nice and all but unless I am fucked over I don't see a reason ignore my personal tastes in games.

Feel silly with this since we're going to have all three by next year, PS4 last most likely. Mario Kart 8 looks really good.

Fignuts 06-17-2013 01:05 AM

Was there no WWE 2k14 presence at E3?

SlickyTrickyDamon 06-17-2013 01:08 AM

Don't think they were ready.

Kalyx triaD 06-17-2013 01:44 AM

Media/info dump on that will probably come around Summer Slam. We got news fairly close to release in the last few years.

Fignuts 06-17-2013 02:00 AM

True but at last year's E3 they at least revealed Attitude mode and a few screenshots. Was curious to see the main gameplay mode. Oh well.

Emperor Smeat 06-17-2013 02:35 AM

Take Two was barely at E3 this year which is why nothing Rockstar or GTA V related was shown. The only thing 2K Games did was be associated with the Miz who had an autograph signing booth at E3.

Even if THQ was still around, I believe they previously announced they wouldn't have attended E3 so WWE 14 wouldn't have been shown off anyways.

Drakul 06-17-2013 09:12 AM

I'm back. I missed E3 with the exception of a video here and there, when I had the time.

Did I miss an announcement of The Legend of Zelda U (Not Wind Waker HD)?

GAME seems to think it was announced. WW HD is a seperate listing, so it's not that.

Of course, multiplat titles are the lion's share of games these days. The prominence of the exclusive has dwindled greatly. Even moreso with Microsodt, who shares its "exclusives" with the PC platform. Titanfall would be an example of that. I can understand if you don't want to invest in PC gaming, but it rings hollow to call that an "exclusive."

Further, while pattern recognition seems to border on a superpower 'round these parts, Microsoft has a tendency to have a strong initial audience then more or less abandon the market except for the bare bones moneymakers. Unless you want Kinect titles, this last generation bears that out. And even with Kinect titles, there wasn't much gold there. Sony has been pretty consistent with returns in the first party category.

Of course, for me, this is purely academic because I don't give a shit about most of the first party games. Titanfall looks as "meh" as anything Sony offered last gen. Dead rising's going to try and clone Call of Duty. Sunset overdrive is another co-op shooter from the guys who managed to turn Overstrike into Fuse. However, if you think Microsoft is going to change its stripes, you just might be a "sucker" after all.

Yes, you can buy multiple consoles. Go ahead and buy all three. Buy whatever you want. Doesn't make it a smart consumer practice or a good long-term buy. Or even a good short-term buy, but hey.

a shame. Think of all the uDraw tablets they could hand out at an event like E3

Tommy Gunn 06-17-2013 09:45 AM

The FPS games MS have for exclusives all look like the same game to me, plus Titanfall is rumored to be a one-year exclusive then it could come to PS4.

I will actually state that MS had the better overall exclusives at E3, but I'm staying with Sony, I choose Nathan Drake over Master Chief.

Kane Knight 06-17-2013 10:02 AM

A one-year exclusive is still for all intents an exclusive. By the time it comes out on another console the damage has generally (not always, just generally) been done.

And is it really surprising that there's a bunch of samey shooters?

This thing where you people think I'm on M$'s jock, this shit about me wanting them to change their tune?

For fuck sake I only ever give a shit about where I can play games I wanna play. This isn't team sports. I do not give a fuck about Xbox One's long term life span. I seriously don't. If Titanfall and Halo was on PS4, I'd be there. And if the rumors pan out, it would appear like last generation my time with Xbox One pretty much hinges or Halo remaining fun to play.

Your thoughts about Xbone were made clear and I respect them, as well as agree with more than I probably sound, but stop this 'you're a sucker', 'your console will not last' bullshit. At the end of the day I just wanna play my fave franchises in the way I want.

alvarado52 06-17-2013 01:30 PM

The only exclusive i'm going to miss is Dead Rising 3, but it sounds like the DayZ developer is strongly leaning towards a PS4 release over Xbone, so that'll make up for it.

SlickyTrickyDamon 06-17-2013 01:43 PM

Not much of a fan of Halo. I like hybrid shooters with RPG elements better. Probably sold on a PS4 unless Xbox ditches every stupid idea they have announced in the last year.

Kalyx triaD 06-17-2013 01:45 PM

You're gonna love Destiny and Division, I suppose. They look hella interesting.

Ugh.

I love the Hitman series, but I hope this direction doesn't put them in Assassin's Creed territory and make it a yearly release.

Ultra Mantis 06-17-2013 06:02 PM

That Squeenix news basically amounts to a HD version of FFXII, where you'll be able to stare into the beautifully rendered soulless voids behind the eyes of every character not named Balthier.

Fignuts 06-18-2013 02:19 AM

Damn, was hoping for some new metroid goodness on the WiiU. Hesitant about the idea of expanding the metroid world. A large part of the metroid series' mystique, comes from the fact that you don't know a lot about the universe these games take place in. Part of why Other M was shitty as a Metroid game, is that it flat out explains too much.

Hopefully they just mean that they are introducing new, isolated, errie parts of the universe with new threasts.
