Neat.

The Rogerer 05-22-2013 10:17 AM

I like John Walker but he started this "OOH it's a shit PC" stuff as soon as the PS4 was announced. See how well that comes up as there's less reason that ever to upgrade your PC and there's a mass market systems with far more tightly engineered things. John Carmack has been seeing the benefit of having these new architectures that don't have to jump through the hoops of a desktop system, and Walker just went "Nyeeeah but it's not a PC", to John fucking Carmack.

I wonder where PC gaming is going to go. I think there is going to be a big obstacle with the market of people who can play these new games on their PC is going to plummet.

I've got a civ 4 gold edition code on Steam. Anybody have any steam games to trade for it?

Drakul 05-22-2013 07:02 PM

I'd be interested. Though I doubt I'd have any games you'd want and I've never traded on Steam before.

Extreme Angle 05-22-2013 07:22 PM

It's a code I have so id send you it on here and you just activate it on steam.
What games do you have?
Pretty much just want something, I have civ5 so no need for 4 imo.

Drakul 05-23-2013 02:43 AM

All I have that I'd get rid of is Half-Life, which I think everyone and their dog has, Prison Tycoon 3 or any of the three Kohan games which are good but not really my thing.

I've never played a Civ game.

Extreme Angle 05-23-2013 06:59 AM

Is that Half-Life 1 or 2?

Drakul 05-23-2013 07:39 AM

1

Extreme Angle 05-23-2013 09:23 AM

Sweet, now you say you don't know about Steam Trading... Is the Half-Life a trade-able gift?

Drakul 05-23-2013 09:25 AM

How would I find out?

Extreme Angle 05-23-2013 09:31 AM

Top left of steam, click the envelope and click on the gifts.
Pretty much you can't trade games you've played, you can only gift games which you've either bought/received as a gift or got via a holiday event.

Drakul 05-23-2013 09:36 AM

I'll go check that out now. I played Half-Life for, literally, 1 minute and then stopped. Has that screwed me?

Drakul 05-23-2013 09:43 AM

I clicked the envelope and got to a page that just says GIFTS. No clue what's next. I'm not a PC gamer.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-23-2013 09:43 AM

If it's in your library, you can't gift it.

Drakul 05-23-2013 09:47 AM

Damn. That doesn't really make any sense. Of course it'll be in the library with a X amount of time played on it. Do Valve think people buy games purely to trade later?

#BROKEN Hasney 05-23-2013 09:52 AM

Yeah, you click buy as gift. Our if you buy a bundle, you sometimes get the spares. The pre-order bonuses go to your inventory too.

Drakul 05-23-2013 09:54 AM

I assumed "Buy as gift" meant I'd be buying it and it would go straight to you, for example. If I want to trade with Extreme Angle, which I'd imagine is different to gifting because I'm getting something in return, I'd have to have bought the game, not played it and just waited for someone to want to trade it?

It would have been quicker to just buy the game I hoped to trade for. Why would anyone trade a game they hadn't at least played once?

#BROKEN Hasney 05-23-2013 10:21 AM

Buy it in the sales and then trade it for a similarly priced game once the sale ends.

Extreme Angle 05-23-2013 10:25 AM

Unwanted games in bundles, like my CIV lol. Plus people buy games cheap as gifts when they are on the daily sale, then trade them later for a more expensive game.
Torchlight 2 was £5 2 weeks ago, last week Xcom was £10. While Xcom was on sale people offered to trade their Torchlight for Xcom. £5 profit. yet the person who wanted torchlight paid £6 less than the standard Steam price.

Drakul 05-23-2013 10:37 AM

So the trade thing isn't going to happen?

Just heard about a game called Dying Light. It's a free running, first person zombie game. If they throw in Nazis and overly masculine bald US Marines, I think they'll have all the modern game cliches covered.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-23-2013 11:03 AM

Mirror's Edge with zombies? I'm sold. Not really sure how the free-running is a cliche though. I'd wish for more games like Mirror's Edge.

People actually do buy games purely to trade later.

Brink did it, Mirrors Edge, Assassins Creed games, Prince of Persia, LEGO City Undercover and a bunch of others.

Yeah, collectors of physical games do but I've never though anyone would do it with digital games.

But they do. There are Steam trade threads on almost every forum I frequent, even ones with no real connection to video games.

Drakul 05-23-2013 11:32 AM

Well, we learn something new every day.

lol the Wii U's sales rank on Amazon has gone from #390 to #40 since the Xbox One was revealed

Kalyx triaD 05-23-2013 09:33 PM

What type of jackass buys a WiiU because the XBOne is meh?

Jesus.

Maybe they think a half-ass next gen console is better than a shitty one.

Kane Knight 05-23-2013 10:45 PM

I disagree, for the record, but I can see the point of view.

Maybe they had an interest in it but held off because they'd rather get an Xbox One. When they saw it wasn't up to what they wanted, they went for the Wii U because they felt they had no need to hang on to buy the Xbox One. (Can we just call it X1?)

I'm not that bothered about the Xbox One because I already have a Wii U, so I have another 5 years of Nintendo games to look forward to. I know it's not going to get the "AAA Blockbusters" but that's not a big deal. Oh no, I can't play games about 30-something American super soldiers gunning down aliens/foreigners! No great loss.

I'd love for MS to grab my attention with something at E3 but, if they don't, whatever.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-24-2013 02:37 AM

WWE 2k14 isn't for WiiU either.

Kalyx triaD 05-24-2013 03:01 AM

Kind of a deal breaker, tbh.

Yeah, curse them for waiting to see what all 3 had to offer then deciding they wanted the Wii U. JACKASSES THE LOT OF THEM, FUKKIN CONSUMERS.

A Yukes developed WWE game would be right at the bottom of games to give a shit about if I was only rocking a Wii U.

If you just grab the disc then you have to pay full price.

Standard trade-ins at retailers will allegedly still work and without an extra fee. MS will get their cut from the retailers in that instance.

Today's News:
1) According to Sony, the official reason why Gran Turismo 6 was developed for the PS3 and not the PS4 was due to the series history always has released 2 games per console. They also hinted the game might not be a launch system-seller worthy title.
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...3-and-not-ps4/

2) Tecmo announces Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will have Jacky Bryant and Ein from the Virtual Fighter series as guest fighters for the game's roster.
http://www.destructoid.com/dead-or-a...r-254429.phtml

3) The former CEO of EA, John Riccitello, stated the idea of "always-on" DRM will be more accepted and embraced by gamers this upcoming console gen. His reasoning involved the belief that all the new benefits next gen consoles can do and bring while being connected online will end up outweighing all the current complaints regarding DRM.

And this is a man with his finger on the pulse of gaming. That's why his company's posting losses and he had to fall on his sword.
