Gran Torino - 8.5/10 Great movie, people knock the acting, but it wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be, and actually well acted in some parts.

ClockShot 12-29-2008 08:04 PM

Valkyrie - 3/5

Nothing special. But this is only a small part of Tom Cruise's return tour. He needs something bigger.

In other news, I saw the X-Men Origins trailer. Looks crazy.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

7/10

As far as "fantasy" flicks go this was pretty entertaining. I don't really expect much given the subject matter, as I never read the books so I'm not going to nitpick if the movies stay true to form. Although it has a PG rating and is a Disney flick, I don't think it detracts from the story.

Requiem 12-30-2008 03:31 AM

The Wrestler
10/10 Really quality movie, and I don't even watch wrestling.

Triple A 12-30-2008 05:47 AM

Man on Wire - 6/10 - Pretty alright. I wanted it to be way better though. I mean it was pretty good but ehhhhhhhhhhhh. Way overrated imo.

Baghead - 9/10 - Wow I love this movie. Real low budget, shot on video, and was just awesome in every way possible. Mad un-pretentious and realistic. "Four struggling actors retreat to a cabin in Big Bear, California in order to write a screenplay that will make them all stars. Problem is: What happens when their story idea -- a horror flick about a group of friends tormented by a villain with a bag over his head -- starts to come true?"

Disturbia 0/10.

Realy fn horrible and boring. I want to give it .5 for being original, but I just can't. I think the acting is what made it horrible. Shia Lebeouf did a decent job, but the guy who was portraying the serial killer was horrible. They at least could have gotten someone better.

Are you fucking serious? David Morse is fucking amazing and that was a great movie. Not at all worthy of your ratings, but then again you do this a lot to really good movies it seems.

G 01-03-2009 12:41 AM

Yeah, seriously. Disturbia is a great movie.

PorkSoda 01-03-2009 01:19 AM

Alright, lets try again.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 6/10.

Thought it could have used more action, but I enjoyed it even though I'm not a huge fan of comic book movies.

Champion of Europa 01-03-2009 01:58 AM

Disturbia is 1/4th of a good movie.

The stuff with him really digging that girl while forced to stay in his house is really interesting stuff. If they ditched the murderer plot and ran with that, it would be awesome.

Boondock Saint 01-03-2009 02:01 AM

Disturbia was better when it was called Rear Window.

But David Morse is the man.

mitch_h 01-03-2009 02:23 AM

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Eh, pretty dissapointing, not a bad movie... but a missed oppurtunity for sure. Pitt was good, but the character of Button was flat, nothing felt particularly genuine, instead everything felt like scenes and scenarios from previous films. That being said, the film wasn't just three hours of tedium, on a technical level it's superb; I loved the cinematography, makeup, score etc. 7/10

Requiem 01-03-2009 09:08 AM

Death Race
7/10

Actually was surprisingly good. Better than I expected, and actually really intense and attention grabbing through the whole thing.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -

Loved this movie. I'm probably biased because I love Brad Pitt as an actor, but this was a fantastic movie. Loved all 2 hours and 40 minutes of it.

Doubt - 4.9/5

Meryl Streep was awesome. Only thing holding it back from being perfect was that it was a tad too short.

El Fangel 01-03-2009 06:20 PM

The Wrestler 11/10

PapaGeorgio 01-03-2009 07:01 PM

Over past week seen a lot of great movies, and really recommend them all pretty much.

Doubt - 4/5 I agree with ClockShot that Meryl Streep was amazing. She def made the movie. At the same time it did feel a bit rushed towards the end.

The Wrestler - 4/5 Was a great movie that you all should see, but at same time don't see it becoming one of my favorites anytime soon. Not sure why, but it just didn't hook me somehow the way I thought it would, dunno. Def amazing though.

Frost/Nixon - 4.5/5 Really enjoyed this and think everyone should see it. This is the type of movie I could just watch over and over. It just hooks you into it.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 3/5 I think part of it is I was preoccupied while watching it. It had its moments, but I wasn't overly blown away with it. It just seemed kind of meh in some ways, but in other ways I loved it. I'll have to rewatch it to get a proper feeling for it sometime.

Gran Tarino - 4/5 Artistically, nothing special. Especially compared to everything else listed here. But in terms of entertainment, it certainly accomplished that for me. Parts were a bit too predictable, parts made me roll my eyes. But I still really went away enjoying this film. Lot of good one liners with it all.

MILK - 4.5/5 Really enjoyed this movie too. With a lot of big name movies recently being released (in terms of Oscar worthy movies too), I feel this one may be overlooked by some of you. It is a good movie, moves along nicely and hooks you into it. Give it a try.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 5/10 - So disappointing. Great premise and really well directed and stuff, but the story was just fucking shitty. It was dull and boring and there was nothing original about it whatsoever under the aging gimmick. And the movie was like 3 god damn hours long and I just felt like I wanted it to end already.

Hannah Takes the Stairs - 7/10 - Another low budget, shot on video movie. Dialogue mostly improv. I <3 these kinds of movies.

Have you seen the Puffy Chair, if not I reccomend it. It's by the Duplass brothers( I think you posted one of their short films before) I also reccomend checking out some of Bujalski's other films... great "mumblecore"

Triple A 01-06-2009 02:33 PM

Yup. I have had The Puffy Chair on DVD since like last year but still haven't watched it for some reason. Baghead was amazing though if you haven't seen that yet.

And I just added a bunch of mumblecore movies earlier today to my Netflix queue. "Kissing on the Mouth", "Funny Ha Ha", "LOL", "Mutual Appreciation", "Dance Party, USA".

mitch_h 01-06-2009 02:53 PM

Just requested Baghead from the library

Tropic Thunder 2/10 - Christ, Ben Stiller and Jack Black need to never ever do a movie together again.

CSL 01-06-2009 04:08 PM

I'm not a huge Ben Stiller or Jack Black fan but that film is nowhere near that bad. I wasn't expecting it to be much good, but I was pleasantly suprised. Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise are great. I'd be more like a 7/7.5
