I am really curious why people (mostly UK based YouTube wrestling channels) hate Jinder's WWE reign so much as if WWE has never done anything more atrocious. This is a common theme that I have seen in literally every UK based popular YouTube channel.

Remember WWE is the same company that pushed babyface Roman. To win the Rumble and to beat Taker at Mania. How are those not seen as bad as Jinder winning the WWE title? Jinder was a heel and thus him winning in a heel way is pretty normal.

Does Jinder suck? Yes. But is he the worst WWE champion? Far from it. There were several things wrong about the Jinder reign but the amount of hate it receives while people are totally okay with stuff like Hell in a Cell matches ending in DQs is just ridiculous.

Honestly? I'll say I saw more people talk about Jinder's reign than Drew's first reign. Since we talk a lot about popularity and draws, doesn't Jinder being more talked about make him a better champion than Drew? Don't get me wrong Drew is amazing and I love his wrestling but his reign was mostly without any heat. Something Jinder had.

Helmsphere 07-20-2023 03:10 AM

I mean there are worst things.

Jinder basically had no buildup, won a title. There was hardly any story behind it other then Vince saying I can do whatever I want with my playground.

Feels like they were trying to capture the magic of JBL run that we all hated at the time but now look back fondly on now. Jinder won't enjoy the same fate.

Honestly the only thing I remember is Orton nearly killing a Bollywood brother and laughing about it.

Tom Guycott 07-20-2023 03:31 AM

The worst part about it was that it was a blatant, naked bid for "an Indian star" for a push into India market share penetration. Nevermind that the company just spent about five years making him look like a clown either as an ineffectual heel or comedic fake band member. Now, suddenly (in the span of a couple of weeks with a rocket-up-ass push), he's supposed to be this bad-ass, world beating monster when the company just so happens to be about to be poised to do a tour in India AND when the corporate side is picking up more TV there?

He wasn't ready for it. The audience didn't want it. The company only did it because they figured him being about the only brown guy they had with WWE worthy height and physique was good enough. They all loved the immobile shitshow that was The Great Khali, so they HAVE to love Jinder!!!

And before anyone thinks I'm making too much about the race thing; I'm not. They did. They were gearing up for something similar a few years before that with some speculative push into South America. It was why they had a sudden mysterious influx of hispanic folks (like Ceasar Bononi... who you might rememeber as... well, you might remember. He resurfaced in AEW, but I'm not even sure that lasted.). They also sorta did the same thing with NXT UK, but the differences were that they didn't exactly try to focus on anyone of a specific persuasion AND they were just picking all of "the biggest" talent from the then-booming European Indie scene. They didn't have to try to create a metaphorical "regional Hulk Hogan" from whole cloth with that one.

Yeah, sorry, bud. You lost me at eight bucks a month.

Even if you moved that decimal place over a couple spots to where I'd only be expected to put seven cents as reoccurring billing on a credit card, I still don't think I'd partake.

Jinder's reign was pretty shite, BUT he did look fantastic and the belt suited him. He got into shape and aesthetically it worked. Plus his intro with the flame going across the stage was awesome!

Everything else was bollocks though. He still couldn't work and his promos were still boring.

"Well, that's, like, your opinion, man."

Seriously, you're right that he was ripped (which was obviously a precondition of giving him the aforementioned rocket-up-ass) and the accessorized entrance was more above average than Mike Sanders. Don't know about the belt "suiting him" though. If anything, it just made it more farcical. However, none of that made up for what the company tried to do in any way... proven by when they just as quickly abandoned all of that and it was back to the midcard for him. WWE has failed way too many times on "asthetics" alone to never learn the lesson of having a shitty success rate. About the only times it worked was Ultimate Warrior and Ryback. Mayyyybe Chris Masters, but again, his whole gimmick was predicated with him being on the gas, and once he had to stop for outside reasons, he got actively punished for not doing the thing the company kinda stopped him from doing after initially encouraging it.

I feel like the company had plans for him to win earlier thats why he came in 2nd for the ATG battle royal... He should have just won the thing over Gronks friend. Give him a bit of a winning streak before that too so it's less jarring.

Lol the Masters thing is one of the more scummy WWE things that doesn't get talked about

Masters went to drug rehab and that meant getting off all drugs including PEDs. So Masters got into distance running as part of his rehab which leaned him out. And then HHH cuts a promo about him on Raw being skinny.

Learning about Jinder Mahal being "elevated" to world champion status after my departure almost broke my damn brain. Like, it still refuses to accept that something like that happened in real life and tries to explain it away as something fabricated by the people on these forums as a sick joke. But, no, it apparently actually happened and it sounds all kinds of horrible.

Also, that dude that Savio quoted is something else. Like, yes, the company does atrocious things. One of them being making God damn Jinder fucking Mahal a fucking world champion. Fucking Ronnie Garvin is laughing at that shit, for fuck's sake.

Snitsky is an exception, if I booked WWE around 2005 he would have been my /topguy/. I would have really pushed the "not my fault angle" where Snitsky would do evil things and then beat people up for saying it was his fault.
One promo I would do is have something happen that messes with the whole show like the power going on and then showing Vince or whoever backstage with all the wrestlers and going,
"The power went out, now I know this was NOT Snitsky's fault, but we are going to have to work in the dark tonight".

Another promo I would do is rip off Jericho's promo with the move list, except Snitsky comes out with a long list and starts reading off things that are NOT. HIS. FAULT.
"I've made a list of some things which are NOT. MY. FAULT.
Number one, World War 2.
Number two, Slavery.
Number three, Gasoline prices".

Not only that, but he was one of the guys thrown under the proverbial bus with that one doctor scandal (while supposedly/allegedly Randy Orton was protected). They needed scapegoats, and he was far enough down the card to be one. Having a push predicated entirely on his look (because the eventual "American Adonis" had absolute rookie stink about him back then) while simultaneously condemning said look was pretty fucky.

It would be like punishing SCSA during his heyday for letting him do everything he did with beers, then having the office legit send him home for "drinking on the job".

Mr. Nerfect 07-24-2023 06:42 AM

Really surprised they’ve never reached out to Masters for another go. Especially after that incident where he saved his mother from a burning house with a tree.

WOW.
Just recently in Doug(h) Basham thread I Suggested that they can give him a gimmick as being "From the internet". This week in Sudistic wrestling they just debuted a new wrestler named Crypto who is announced as "From the internet" and seems to have a gimmick of an internet nerd wrestling fan.
This is incredible coincidence almost like Sudistic Wrestling creative team reads this message board! He even has TPWW hair color!
