Watching a bunch of 1995 Superstars

Mantaur wasn't bad. Just a bad gimmick.

so ESPN put that CM Punk under WWE. Mind you, they don't have a regular professional wrestling section.

Why would WWE allow that? Food for thought.

Sorry...but this is middling at best. I guess the fans like it? But good god the fans are deprived of stellar promo work.

#1-norm-fan 06-21-2023 01:23 PM

The hyperbole of the tweets aside, I thought it was a really good little “nothing” promo. Always been a fan.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-21-2023 01:27 PM

I dunno he kinda sucks lol

Helmsphere 06-21-2023 01:30 PM

It's not the subject matter of the promos he cuts that people like, it's the confidence and swagger in which he cuts them.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-21-2023 01:34 PM

Did I say it was the subject matter, Helmsphere? I don't like his delivery and his confidence/swagger is stilted as fuck.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-21-2023 01:34 PM

But thanks for clarifying.

GD 06-21-2023 01:51 PM

I think Eli Knight is the best thing since sliced bread. YEAAAAAAAH!

Lock Jaw 06-21-2023 07:41 PM

Is 2000s Rock the one where he was face for awhile and was really kinda boring/generic but charismatic at the same time? Cause that comparison seems spot on with that clip... seems like LA was pretty much doing a Rock impression with his delivery/speech pattern.

Helmsphere 06-21-2023 07:48 PM

I've only seen little of LA Knight. He seems good but doesn't seem like he won't be a main eventer. He's pretty much Mr. Kennedy of the 2020. He checks alot of boxes and it may be fun to think okay he will be a star.

Oh, he’s 100% just doing a Rock impression. But he owns it and doesn’t come off awkward or cringe. So it works for me.

Lies Jillian Hall was the best thing since sliced bread.

GD 06-22-2023 11:40 AM

She even had a slice of bread permanently attached to her face at one point of time.

Helmsphere 06-22-2023 11:43 AM

And two whole loafs of bread for a chest.

Mr. Nerfect 06-22-2023 12:42 PM

LA Knight won me over for a bit with his NWA work and some of what I’ve seen in WWE. But that was back to the guy trying to cosplay as Rock. WWE crowds seem “vanilla.” I guess that is considered a good reaction? It only impressed me when they did the singalong at the end. They’re singalong crowds.

Logan Paul is excellent in that clip though. He’s “in” every moment. Biggest star in the match.

drave 06-22-2023 02:29 PM

I only watch WWE for Gunther.

This is what WWE wanted with the homogenizing of everything. Easier to "program the masses" and get them to do what you want when you take away most of the unique stuff.

I still miss the unique sets of PPV's :(

Mr. Nerfect 06-22-2023 03:33 PM

You’d brainwash more people if you had a larger audience. People are still captivated by wrestling when it was good. Just make it good.

Before I stopped watching, the last big pop that I remember a crowd delivering was when AJ Styles debuted at the Royal Rumble. For one, it was a pretty big surprise, but on top of that, it was different. You had this one motherfucker who'd never been in a WWE in any major capacity getting a better reaction than anybody else on the roster at the time, certainly bigger than the Golden Boy they were trying to push. It was a sign of the times and of the power of the soul sucking machine that is WWE "creative".

The crowd cheers him so I guess it works for what it is, but I'd argue that it's highly cringy and he comes across as the Wish version of Rock. Clearly he's got some talent but maybe he should use it to not be a knockoff.

Don't get me wrong, I get some gimmicks are stolen, but it's usually done in a way where the guy makes it his own. That promo was not that.

Fignuts 06-23-2023 01:28 PM

His cadence definitely reminds me of the rock's but I don't really mind as the content of the promo is entertaining enough.

XL 06-23-2023 03:35 PM

He is speaking voice sounds like The Rock, he can’t get away from that. Doesn’t mean he needs to lean in it though either.
