Why do villains keep becoming the heroes?
because they keep on feeling they have to come up with with something "original" rather than good. Not to mention that in todays MArvel and DC there is very little difference between the two at time aside from perhaps motivation.
I personally enjoyed the old days where continuity errors were fixed with a * see issue XX or this takes place between XX and XX or errors like minor costume differences were just ignored . Now everything has to be explained and everything suffers from Clairmontitis ( 5+ year plot points that might get remembered ) that just has to be resolved. HAte 20 part stories and shit that carries on between 10 books over 6 months. TDLR: Get off my Lawn!!!! |
I think it was mainly a 90's marketing thing. "People love this villain. Let's make him an anti-hero and give him a mini series. We'll make bank!"
Feel like now, it's done more to tell a story and evolve the character. In Doom's case, he became god of everything and yet it did nothing to fulfill him, so he has had an epiphany and come to the realization that maybe trying to better the world will satisfy him. So he's not doing it for completely selfless reasons. And he's still egotistical Doom. He's not all of a sudden humble. He still arrogantly believes he is the one to save the world. |

Especially characters like Doom that have been around for half a century. |
Jude Law ---> Captain Mar-Vel
Nice.
So they need to do a Sherlock Holmes thing.
Has there ever been an active MCU actor who's also an active DCEU actor? If not, do you think there's a clause like between pro-wrestling promotions?
These thoughts are prefacing a thread I'm gonna do (haven't done a comic scenario thread in years). |
Their contracts are with the parent studios. Its not dc but warner/sony/fox/etc

Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and The Wasp, 4th Avengers, 3rd Guardians, etc.
Also, they wanted to buy rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four. Held negotiations this month, didn't make it public how those ended.
Or if they've ended.
Nah, that part they actually said. They ended alright.

BTW if no one has mentioned it, they are currently developing a Multiple Man film that may or may not be rated R and stars James Franco as Jamie Madrox.
Fine.
I'm 70% certain Disney is trying to lock X-Men and Fantastic Four for Phase 5. I think they're as aware of needing a new macro arc as I was concerned about.
They NEED those FF villains.
Can't think of anyone that would be better than Doom, Galactus, etc. for the next Avengers films |
Kang gets no love...
A big time travel arc couldmbe great
Also secret invasion and tne skrulls

The talks died down then suddenly started back up again - after the Infinity War trailer. Almost like, "Listen, bub, you see what we're capable of. What say you let us play with some of your toys, eh?" Or something.
But yeah they have very little in the way of macro arc/crossover event villains once Thanos finishes his good work. Unless they wanna boost Dr Octopus into an Avengers level threat. Also consider Inhumans is their worst MCU effort and the actually good Inhuman characters will fade away when Agents is done - and they were groomed as Marvel Studios mutant surrogates for years. They have to start feeling the pressure of not having the X-Men, FF, and the villains they have. |
lol where do you get dr. Octopus from?
I'm just sayin if they don't lock down mutants and FF, they're gonna have to embellish the threat level of other villains. Norman can get away with being a crossover villain, especially since Seige would work nicely in the MCU. But then what? Zemo breaks out and goes full supervillain? They're running thin. On Earth anyway. Cosmic sector still has a lot of juice, but even then we all would love to see Silver Surfer appear in a Guardians movie.
I mean they're running thin, yeah, but they still have better options than Doc Ock.
Korvac Return of Zemo with a full Masters of Evil squad Could also do a lot with The Sentry Secondary villains in Taskmaster and Super Adaptoid. Regardless, it all looks much brighter with the X-Men and FF licenses. |
I kinda sorta much rather see Taskmaster in a Deadpool movie, tbh. Their short bromance in the comics was fun.
What abou TAskmaster in a Captain America movie
Problem is MCU doesnt tell antag stories. At the crux theyre about the protags so the villain rarely matters...
I feel somewhat vindicated for not assuming the talks died down.

Marvel coming after the previously ignored girl power animation market DC pre-empted with their super hero girls franchise years ago. DC simply has a better handle on even their most daring animation concepts, while Marvel's cartoons hit a slump since the Disney acquisition.
