Feels like TK also owns AAA secretly.

Mr. Nerfect 04-11-2023 02:10 AM

I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that a lot of AAA’s business comes from tourists anyway. It’s probably not that weird that they just throw whatever “names” they’ve got out there.

ron the dial 04-11-2023 08:22 AM

what is that sneaking suspicion based on exactly?

Depends on where the show is. There's quite a few fans from California that make the trip, but I wouldn't call them tourists. I would totally do that if I lived in the area.

Mr. Nerfect 04-11-2023 09:54 AM

Yeah, I think I’ve heard Konnan talk about it. I doubt tourists are tracking down dingy little house shows in the roughest places or anything, but I have a friend who travelled Mexico — not a fan of wrestling in the slightest — had ended up at some lucha event because it was the “thing” she got pointed to do when in Mexico.

Hijo del Vikingo vs. Komander vs. Rich Swann vs. Swerve Strickland

Swann and Swerve have not appeared on AAA TV in the last 2 years. Wonder if AAA will tell their fans why they should care. (they won't)

Damn, checkmate.

#1-norm-fan 04-11-2023 12:59 PM

I took that as Dave snidely saying that other companies do the same thing.

Sepholio 04-11-2023 06:36 PM

Dark side of the Ring season 4 on May 30th.

One of the episodes known about so far covers the Magnum TA car accident. Feel like we need to watch that one as a group.

Sepholio 04-11-2023 06:37 PM

Other eps known so far are Chris Candido/Sunny, Abdullah The Butcher and Marty Jannety.

Bad News Gertner 04-11-2023 07:19 PM

They gotttttttta do a Chris Adams one.

Lock Jaw 04-11-2023 07:24 PM

They should do one about me, Lock Jaw, and how I was screwed out of my position as Anonymous RAW GM and then replaced by Hornswoggle in the storyline reveal....

Sepholio 04-11-2023 07:29 PM

I'd watch that if only for the bit where you confess your undying love to Swoggle only to be stabbed in the back by your one true love.

Mr. Nerfect 04-11-2023 08:11 PM

Was thinking about giving NXT a go today. I dunno…

Was also thinking about giving AEW a go tomorrow for a laugh, but there’s nowhere convenient to watch it.

#1-norm-fan 04-11-2023 08:48 PM

AEW has a TV deal in Australia.

Sepholio 04-11-2023 09:03 PM

Yeah if you wanna pay like 75 dollars a month extra for one of the sports packages.

Sepholio 04-11-2023 09:04 PM

Seriously, this is coming from experience in Australia/New Zealand. They have a lot of freedom in terms of setting up exactly what you want in your TV package, but it can get super fucking pricy in a hurry.

Sepholio 04-11-2023 09:05 PM

Unless it's available on ESPN+ app as well over there, in which case that's like maybe 10 bucks a month now tops.

Bad News Gertner 04-11-2023 10:01 PM

IPTV through my Android box is the greatest $20 a month I could ever spend.

Yeah, the sports pack through Foxtel (I know of two people who still have Foxtel) is $75 a month. Even my boomer parents canceled cable. Anyone who watches sport generally does so through apps like Kayo. I couldn’t even find a friend with ESPN.

Somewhat Off topic, but talking about having more options, the NFL package info was announced today, and dashed all hopes of having a per game or per team option. The idea/hope that Google was going to have better options than Directv had for 25 years just evaporated. I am not trying to pay to watch like the Falcons or Texans, bastard NFL!

DaveWadding 04-12-2023 11:39 AM

Made this after seeing the new Anna Jay shirt, probably isn't funny

Mr. Nerfect 04-12-2023 12:02 PM

Conversely, WWE is on Binge, which is an app that is basically what Foxtel was, but now an app you pay your average $10-$14 per month on (I can’t even remember what it is). They’re basically what Peacock is to the WWE Network in the US. We’re waiting on lots of stuff. They need to go through and date classic episodes of Raw. King of the Ring wasn’t up the other day when I checked (but got added like literally in the last few days). There’s no Over the Limit. There’s no ECW. WCW stuff is limited (there’s more wXw stuff). It’s not perfect, but it’s easier in Australia to track down EVOLVE shows (they’re on Binge) than it is AEW.

Mr. Nerfect 04-12-2023 12:02 PM

Well, I guess AEW is/was on FITE, but fuck that.

Exactly, y'all bitch about Tony Khan doing this dumb shit, but AAA does the exact same shit and has for years and it's so much worse because it's a Wrestlemania level show.

Mr. Nerfect 04-12-2023 12:43 PM

Way more egregious when a US-based promotion does it because of the culture and context of the shows. It’s not a 1:1. You seem to be upset that a lucha promotion is doing it while being completely fine with a TV insulting its audience by making them do the work to understand what the hell is going on.

See how Bret protected the business by gently lowering that kid into the backbreaker? Modern wrestlers would just throw their whole arsenal at that kid and he’d kick out at two.

And it's also dumb as shit when they do it, that's the point.

Mr. Nerfect 04-12-2023 05:58 PM

I can’t believe I actually agree with screech here.

Sepholio 04-13-2023 02:27 PM

It has been 26 years since the first ECW PPV, Barely Legal. Terry Funk defeated Raven in the main event to win the ECW title.

Mr. Nerfect 04-13-2023 04:20 PM

Forget about that, we’ve got AEW now, which draws even more on PPV. When you count international sales and factor in the show can be bought digitally and on-demand.

Listened to a clip last night of Hogan talking about how he jobbed to Kidman and made him a star but then Russo butchered the follow-up.

He said “After me, Kidman should have taken down Sting, run through Goldberg and won the belt” and now I’m just picturing Kidman squashing Goldberg.

GD 04-14-2023 12:06 PM

Evil Vito 04-14-2023 03:16 PM

I enjoyed Kidman as an in-ring performer but he had pretty much negative charisma.

Evil Vito 04-14-2023 03:17 PM

Kinda weird in hindsight because you'd have to assume that Kidman had some real-life charm or charisma to be fucking a prime Torrie Wilson.

Mr. Nerfect 04-14-2023 03:36 PM

Kidman has charisma. He just reeked of cruiserweight at a time that meant you were in a box.

I'm inclined to believe virtually nothing that comes out of Hogan's dick holster, but Russo sucking at his job is pretty much on brand.

xrodmuc316 04-16-2023 11:38 AM

Add John Morrison to the list of pro wrestlers who have won a professional fight. Nobody tell CM Phil :rofl::rofl:

Mr. Nerfect 04-16-2023 02:22 PM

John Morrison is fantastic. It’s a shame he’ll probably end up in AEW.
