I thought about this too. The only logical conclusion I came to was that everyone was already there for the three hour raw except inactive wrestlers, etc. If, and that's a big if, we have another benoit tribute, I would think the other guys would record something then.

No disrespect to Punk or anything, but they had only been on the same show for 2 weeks, Rey had known him for 15 years

Well I doubt Rey was at the event and they couldn't get a camera crew to Rey in that short of a time.

Plus Punk was probably the guy who looked up to Benoit the most out of all of the young guys in ECW and they needed someone from the current ECW to talk.

Yeh, I'm past my initial disbelief and shock. I want to know what happened. Because, at this point, it really seems that he did it. And he probably did. But why. Murder-suicides are not random acts of violence. I hope they wrap up the investigation ASAP and get the information out.

Only time and revelation will explain what went on with Benoit and Nancy, but right now you have three dead people. Yeh jesus.

*20 years from now*

"So, how did you win your first world title again?"

"Um, well, it was kind of an interesting story. I was a replacement for a guy who no-showed."

"Really? Why would he miss that?"

"Um...well, he killed himself and his family."

Pretty unique story if you ask me.

Mercury Bullet 06-26-2007 11:24 AM

Yeh, they found the bodies about 2:30 and had to go on air at 5:00 (in my time zone, pacific)

Theo Dious 06-26-2007 11:26 AM

When did this story hit the 'net anyways? I was on TPWW at 4 before I left work, and I don't have access at home atm.

Jeritron 06-26-2007 11:26 AM

Just because he was only on the same show for 2 weeks, didn't mean he didn't know him longer. He's been in the same business for years, and in the same promotion for 2 years.
CM Punk was a friend of Eddie Guerrero, so I don't see why he couldn't be a friend of Benoit.
There's more to the wrestling business than just what show you're on, guys know eachother who aren't even in the same promotion.

Mercury Bullet 06-26-2007 11:33 AM

I don't know when this went online. This is how I found out...

Okay, I missed the very begining of Raw because me and my fiance we're watching True Lies. At 5:00 I told her to switch over to Raw (she actually watches too) and she said "We're not missing anything, you know they're just showing the limo explosion again". So we sat there for about 10 minutes and watched more of the movie. Then we flipped to Raw and caught a flash of the screen showing his picture and 1967-2007 on the screen as it went to comercial. My first thought was, "WTF? They just gonna start killing off the whole roster now? This is so stupid. I don't even want to watch this shit."

We have DVR with Dish Network, and out of curiosity I went and restarted the show and then said "Holy shit..."

Theo Dious 06-26-2007 11:33 AM

Yeah, all the retrospective, remembrance, and tribute oriented stuff. All gone.

I'm starting to really feel sick.

Mercury Bullet 06-26-2007 11:34 AM

The actions being taken by the WWE really make it seem like he just flipped out and killed everybody without a lot of reason. :(

Theo Dious 06-26-2007 11:34 AM

So, what now, are they going to delete him from history? That's pretty stupid. Hopefully they just want to rewrite everything involving him so that it doesn't seem like they're giving him too much praise.

Londoner 06-26-2007 11:35 AM

I'm starting to really feel sick.

Me to.

Same here.

BigDaddyCool 06-26-2007 11:35 AM

I honestly feel numb right now.

kaneundertaker 06-26-2007 11:36 AM

this whole "bizarre" thing gets me.....wat if...and i know we shouldnt speculate too much, but what if he was playing with his boy (you know like wrestling moves and stuff) and there was a terrible accident. and he just lost it with Nancy after

just another thought.......

Mercury Bullet 06-26-2007 11:36 AM

I don't think they should edit him out of everything. Take down his merchandise though (T shirts and crap, maybe even dvd's exclusive to him) and I wouldn't hold any tribute shows after this. No "Benoit" armbands for everybody.

BigDaddyCool 06-26-2007 11:37 AM

To quote Don West, this is really bizarre.

ChiefStubbs 06-26-2007 11:37 AM

EDIT: Ok, seems I showed off what a clueless bastard I was.

James Steele 06-26-2007 11:38 AM

I wonder how WWE will handle this on TV. Will they not even mention him, will they bash him, or will they just say "tragedy".

Yeh, what are they doing that is so heartless?

What, because they don't want to pay tribute to a murder? I know we don't have all the facts, but Benoit is now a murder. And I'm not sure what to think about WWE right now, but I don't think it is wrong what they have done.

Then I guess my Benoit shirt is gonna become a collector's item.

BigDaddyCool 06-26-2007 11:40 AM

BTW, after Eddie died, they said WWE was on a death watch, and everyone assumed it was for Angle. Do you think it was actaully Benoit now?

Theo Dious 06-26-2007 11:41 AM

Really, I think that at the worst, Benoit's participation in old matches mentioned on WWE.com will be scaled down to simply "Oh yeah he won," rather than the "At WMXX Chris Benoit became a hero to millions by realizing his lifelong dream of becoming a World Champion in WWE, golly gee whiz what a guy, don't you just want to kiss him" kind of stuff that has been there.

Mercury Bullet 06-26-2007 11:41 AM

I think it would be more heartless to profit off of merchandise promoting a man who murdered his wife and small child.

James Steele 06-26-2007 11:42 AM

They changed the ECW.com page. It is all about Nitro.

I've since become convinced that they were talking about several guys at that time (Angle, Benoit, and Big Show being among them.)

TheProfessional 06-26-2007 11:43 AM

I don't know why everybody is saying that he is being edited out of WWE history. I'm looking at Wrestlemania XX results and his victory is still in. I'm looking at Summerslam 2004 and he is still there. His profile is still up on the ECW page as we speak. 75% of you just want to take any opportunity you can to shit on the WWE. If you owned a basketball team and one of your star players kills his family and then himself, you're not gonna plaster your team store with memorbillia. You recognize him for what he was and move on.

Innovator 06-26-2007 11:43 AM

They don't want to have it seem like they are trying to make a profit off of a suspected murderer. WWE is playing this the right way

Jeritron 06-26-2007 11:44 AM

WWE is not wrong in this. Only in the world of wrestling and it's dellusioned fans can a wrestler go into OJ land, and kill his family and STILL some will try to make Vince the bad guy in all of this....

pathetic really. I think they didn't want to believe it. As the shit began to hit the fan, things are beginning to change in terms of how they feel about him and how they handle his "legacy" and actions. Rightfully so.

I just now noticed, Vince was very careful in what he said to open the show. He paused when he said "one of the greatest....................WWE superstars of all time"
He didn't say greatest men, or greatest employees or anything he normally would have said about the man who people thought was Chris Benoit. Once again, rightfully so.

James Steele 06-26-2007 11:44 AM

Highspots.com is going to make big bucks off Benoit merch.

Yeh, they aren't going to whipe him from the record books. But anything he did is going to be greatly diminished. Like you said, WMXX is now just a title win and nothing more.
