Yeah. Not sure how I feel about that.

Kalyx triaD 06-14-2011 06:32 PM

I'm gonna be 'that guy' and say Clark looks to handsome.

Otherwise a great pic, nice to see things moving on.

Lock Jaw 06-14-2011 06:40 PM

Nah, I was thinking that too Kalyx. Don't know the context of the picture though. Not gonna judge anything yet.

LuigiD 06-15-2011 11:53 AM

Apparently some of the first reviews for GL have hit. They range from awful to mediocre.

Kalyx triaD 06-15-2011 06:00 PM

We may have guessed as much.

Lara Emily 06-15-2011 06:46 PM

I'm shocked lol!

Trailers were fucking awful

Boondock Saint 06-15-2011 07:11 PM

The other "Man of Steel" news lately has been a photo making the rounds this week of Henry Cavill and Amy Adams seemingly in character. As soon as it appeared though it was quickly shot down, the shot revealed to be a screen capture from the recently finished long-running "Smallville" with Cavill and Adams' heads superimposed over Tom Welling and Erica Durance's.

Boondock Saint 06-15-2011 07:12 PM

Also supposedly Russell Crowe in talks for Jor-El

That makes sense, production shouldn't have started yet.

fucking awesome. I could care less about the distracting CGI 3-D stuff. Had funny dialogue too.. Wayy up there with the humor of Iron Man. Stay during the end credits castlist cos there's an extra ending with Sinestro...

Hal Jordan by Ryan Reynolds is almost as cocky and a prick like Tony Stark.. His humor too. :P I loved the part where he tried reciting the Lantern Corps oath when he tried on the Green ring by quoting, "TO INFINITY AND BEYOND ALA TOY STORY TO HE-MAN, "BY THE POWER OF GRAY--- WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSE TO SAY?!?!" LOLZ moment.

And stay for the start of the end credits roll, another scene for a sequel involving,
SPOILER: show
Sinestro and the yellow ring forged by the guardians to defeat Parallax the main villain.

10/10.

Full marks from that guy pretty much means it's shit.

Vastardikai 06-17-2011 03:08 AM

Went to a midnight screening.

It was a CGI-fest, but it almost had to be because of the nature of the film.

Reynolds was solid as Jordan. I do buy him as more of a Flash, but that's just me.

I actually enjoyed it, but that's because I'm a Green Lantern nerd. And, the theater was packed.

Lock Jaw 06-20-2011 08:31 PM

100 Bullets gonna possibly be a TV Show:

Quote:

Deadline reports that David S. Goyer is attached to write and executive produce an adaptation of the Vertigo crime series for Showtime. Warner Bros. Television is producing.

I know a lot of people loved 100 Bullets. Did not care for it myself, and will probably pass on the TV Series unless I start hearing great things about it.

Kalyx triaD 06-26-2011 09:58 AM

Dark Knight Rises next year. DC Animated DVDs hasn't fucked up yet. DC still got TV on lock. It's all good for the most part.

Alright I'm digging Superman. Batman looks like the Arkham Asylum version so that's alright. Diana needs her gold and stars but whatever her wardrobe is a shuffle these days. Who does Arthur sleep with to stay on the team?

Is there an HD version of the pic? I need it for my collection.

Superman's belt needs to be yellow (or I guess gold now).

Why the hell are you calling her Diana? It is fucking Wonder Woman. Not only that you call the dudes by their super hero names, but her by her "real name?" Why don't you say Clark (or Kal-El)) and Bruce?[/flipping out]

Kalyx triaD 06-27-2011 11:00 PM

Wonder Woman seems more like a hassle to write; two cap'd letters, a space. Batman and Superman kinda rolls off the fingers. In regard to titles, I will formally spell out Wonder Woman.

I'm sorry it bothers you. If it makes you feel any better, fuck off.

lol seriously

Superman should never be in anything resembling armor.

That's like putting a tank inside a tank.

Fignuts 06-27-2011 11:05 PM

Wonder Woman doesn't look bad, it just doesn't fit her, really. Nothing fits her outside of the classic, imo. That costume would be great for donna troy or wonder girl though.

Aquaman and flash look alright.

Cyborg looks like a crappy 90's x-force villain.

BigDaddyCool 06-28-2011 12:06 AM

Also Flash's boots...they look armored but he is wear spandex everywhere else. He should be wearing nikes or something.

Kalyx triaD 06-28-2011 12:11 AM

Nikes would probably tear up after a few 1000 miles a minute.

Nowhere Man 06-28-2011 12:59 AM

Just noticed, apart from all of the people who don't have cowls sporting high-collars, now they all have the same kind of V-shaped belts. Which just screams "all of these costumes were designed by the same guy."

I know I'm still going on bitching and moaning about the redesigns, but it seriously annoys me how willing DC is to throw away 70+ years of iconography that's embedded into the popular unconscious, just because Jim Lee thinks these costumes look cooler.

Kalyx triaD 06-28-2011 01:17 AM

You didn't think that way about high boots, capes, and external underwear?

Nowhere Man 06-28-2011 01:23 AM

To be fair, the only guys who had the external underwear and stuck with it were Superman and Batman. And at least then they were all designed by different people, even if all of those different people were just trying to rip off Siegel and Shuster.

They still have the out lines of external underwear.

(Not solely directed at Kaylx) Also...Superman and Batman are the only guys to really have underwear and capes for top named heroes. How come the mass conscientiousness thinks of all heroes as caped crusaders? No top name Marvel heroes come to mind as caped heroes...except maybe Storm, and that is maybe, she is a leader of the X-Men, but not the reason anyone buys the books.

Kalyx triaD 06-28-2011 10:00 AM

Marvel wasn't as big on capes as DC.

Superman
Batman
Robin
Supergirl
Powergirl
Huntress
Captain Marvel
Dr Fate
Martian Manhunter
Diana (on occasion)
Raven
...Maybe more.

And only Batman was known as the Caped Crusader, to my knowledge.

Most of those people are attached to Batman or Superman, and aren't the top billed. But if you are reading Batman and Superman team up books, you are going to get lots of capes and underwears.

Another aside, supergirl, batgirl, and the other girl versions of superheroes should wear thongs on the outside of their costumes.

Haven't kept up much with the DC movie thread, so dunno if this was discussed or whatever, but was looking up Green Lantern on IMDB and Wikipedia and it seems the movie has bombed big time! (So far anyway).

Can't say I'm surprised. The trailer looked pretty crappy, and seriously come on, nobody (outside of comic fans) gives a shit about any DC characters who aren't Batman and Superman.

Kalyx triaD 06-30-2011 10:43 PM

People would give a shit if they didn't clown all through production. I mean, who gave a shit about Iron Man, Thor, or Blade? They're not X-Men or Spider-Man, but they were well made. Green Lantern wasn't well made.

Rammsteinmad 07-01-2011 03:37 AM

True... I was incredibly surprised at how well-received the Iron Man films were...

Anyway, I'm sure DC will make up for this with The Dark Knight Rises (and even though I haven't seen Green Lantern, so I won't judge it until I have, I'll still buy the DVD just to fulfill my comic-collector urge to own all the movies).

Kalyx triaD 07-01-2011 03:58 AM

No, DC will not make up for it with another movie. That's Nolan's show, I won't make him pay penance points for Martin's fuck up. Everything, from the lead casting to the damn suit, were 'wtf' updates. A train wreck in the making with everything we heard and then... the train wrecked.

The Dark Knight Rises will be kick-ass, but that won't change this bomb. They shouldn't get off that lucky.

Rammsteinmad 07-01-2011 06:40 AM

Wow KT... so much hatred... :(

I'm sure Wonder Woman will make up for Green Lantern when it comes out in 2018.

Kalyx triaD 07-01-2011 09:13 AM

I hate seeing bad productions. I feel there's very little reason to suck that bad. You don't have to rewrite history, or break records, but don't do silly things like cast Ryan funny-man Reynolds as a founding member of the Justice League, and have an all CG suit trying to make some technical point.

And I read about the requisite after-movie scene. No comment there, other than next time they wanna bite off Marvel Studios - plan it out.

From all the story rumors, character castings and spoiler I read, I think it's doubtful. If they were going to do No Man's Land, they'd have had to have Gotham be destroyed in the first one so they can spend three films building it back up. I think Nolan's going in different direction to help tie up the story and end on a high note.

Kalyx triaD 07-15-2011 09:45 AM

you can adapt the story to fit a movie's time. How many year long comic arcs we already seen get crunched into one movie? One act? One scene? It's not so hard.

I agree, but No Man's Land is such a giant arc that it'd be a waste of time to tie it into the final film of a trilogy. If they're going to do it, they should either release via DC Animated, or, when the series reboots, start from the beginning.

I just have a hard time seeing Nolan incorporate NML into the already complex story he's trying to finish.

Kalyx triaD 07-15-2011 01:26 PM

It would work as an animated movie nicely.

Lock Jaw 07-15-2011 02:02 PM

He doesn't need to adapt and fit the whole story in the movie. He could just adapt the "There's an Earthquake" part and go on his on way.

Damian Rey 07-15-2011 06:23 PM

Yea, but that's a bit of a cop out. I never read the NML comic, but I did read the novelization, and I enjoyed it immensely. I'd feel pretty cheated if all I got was the earthquake part and that's it.

If they're going to adapt a comic storyline, they should adapt it right. DC Animated has done a pretty solid job thus far, and I'd love for NML to be the next Batman project.

Lock Jaw 07-15-2011 06:24 PM

That's funny. I also read the No Man's Land novelization, but not any of the comics.

Damian Rey 07-15-2011 07:58 PM

Neither can I. Year One is one of my favorite graphic novels ever, so knowing I actually get to watch a film based on such is exciting. Liked what I saw in the trailer.

Lock Jaw 07-19-2011 02:52 PM

It is like DC is trying real hard to get me to hate Superman.

New reports on the reboot saying that both Ma and Pa Kent are going to be dead, and Superman is going to be more "alien" and less "Clark Kent"/human. Hence why he takes to wearing the "Kryptonian battle armor". More focus on him being "alienated" and "isolated" rather than "human".

Pretty sure all of that is the opposite of what Superman should be. The point of Superman, a point that we just had some massive storylines about, is that he isn't just an alien. He think and feels like a human. Clark Kent is Superman. Not Superman is Clark Kent.

Then there is Supergirl, who they seem to have reset to just arriving to Earth again, and thus are going to also be doing the whole "alienated"/"isolated"/"not sure if she wants to be a hero" thing. In recent years they finally moved past all of that and actually made Supergirl enjoyable. Now it is back to square one with a bad costume.

Then Superboy, I don't even know what the hell is going on with.

Nowhere Man 07-19-2011 02:56 PM

DC: Fuck the guy who made us popular in the first place, we only give a shit about Batman now.

Damian Rey 07-19-2011 02:56 PM

Sounds like they're trying to add an unnecessary layer of depth with Supes by passing him off as some out of place loner, which, even to me, a non Superman fan, is kind of ridiculous. His charm and selling point is that, even though he is an alien, and even though he's a God amongst men, he's still one of them, and and fights for them because they are his people.

Otherwise, why in God's name would he care to fight for Earth. If he is alienated/isolated, has no parents to lacth onto or protect, and has no real other deep, personal, resonating reason to protect Earth, what's the point?

Maybe I'm missing something...

Nowhere Man 07-19-2011 03:04 PM

The Clark Kent mindset was what I always loved about Superman. Even though he's an invulnerable, nigh-omnipotent alien, he always just saw himself as a country yokel who grew up on a farm. When he's not punching out gods and bench-pressing continents, he'd be watching football with his dad or taking his wife out to dinner. Kind of the opposite of Batman, who absolutely has to believe his own hype in order to be who he is, Superman does unbelievable things but doesn't believe his hype at all. That was what made Superman a great character: that juxtaposition of the absolutely incredible and the everyday and mundane.

This, though? Now he's just fucking Doctor Manhattan.

One of my favorite Superman moments:

Wasn't from a particularly stunning story or anything, but the moment was stunning.

Just thought I would share this image before Superman's humanity is obliterated in the reboot. (<--- Judging it before I read it)

Nowhere Man 07-23-2011 02:21 AM

If there was one thing I liked about Byrne's reboot of Superman back in the 80s (I infinitely prefer Mark Waid's take on the origin myself), it would be the fact that he brought Ma and Pa Kent back and kept them as recurring characters. It made him much more identifiable, the idea that even though he's indestructible, he doesn't know everything, and still has to go home every once in a while to get advice from his dad.

So of course we're doing away with that so he can bitch and moan about how he doesn't fit in with humans.

Lock Jaw 07-23-2011 02:38 AM

Yeah, I was a big fan of both of his parents being alive. I'd settle for just one, but I like both being around. The above panels I posted being a great example of why.

Lock Jaw 07-25-2011 01:44 PM

Next up in DC Animated Movies:

Justice League: Doom inspired by the "Tower of Babel" storyline from JLA. Which I know nothing about.

Superman vs. The Elite which has potential to be awesome. Loved Manchester Black.

Annnnnddd....

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns slated to be a TWO-PART film.

Kalyx triaD 07-25-2011 02:58 PM

I wonder if Ironside will return to playing DKR Batman like that TAS sequence.

Kalyx triaD 07-27-2011 02:56 AM

This whole DCnU thing is so fucking stupid. I'm reading interview after interview trying to understand what the fuck they're going for. Mixed messages, contradictions in continuity, vague objectives. This is a mess. And yeah, more confusing than what it was before the reboot - a complete fail considering the whole point of this.

Like a lot of the updated costumes, but the whole premise reeks of desperation and stunt. Fuck this.

Nowhere Man 07-27-2011 04:22 AM

I'm still betting it's only going to last a year, tops, before they're shamed into bringing back the 'classic' DCU.

loopydate 07-27-2011 10:47 AM

This whole thing is indicative of my main issue with DC. When Marvel launched the Ultimate line (not exactly the same thing, I know, but a similar idea), they kept it simple. X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Avengers. It was only when they started to get really convoluted and overpopulated that the whole line came crumbling down. DC does a relaunch, and we've got seven Bat-books right out of the gate. DC never does anything simple.

loopydate 07-27-2011 10:50 AM

Not a knock on DC necessarily. They tell good stories. But it's just not at all accessible for a casual comic reader like me.

Lock Jaw 07-27-2011 01:11 PM

What? You telling me new readers aren't going to buy all 52 books?!

Nowhere Man 07-27-2011 07:44 PM

If this was a separate continuity altogether like Ultimate Marvel, I wouldn't have anywhere near as big of a problem with it as I do. That way they could do their 'fresh and modern' approach to the DCU while keeping the original continuity intact. Instead they're chucking out the current mythos and replacing it with a big confused mess of stuff they want to reboot and stuff they want to keep.

Lock Jaw 07-28-2011 02:04 AM

They shoulda just expanded on the Earth-One line.

JMS is still working on a Superman: Earth-One sequel. Read some stuff about it, and apparently a plot in it deals with Superman's sexual frustrations and him not being able to be with a woman because he would DESTROY them with his penis.

If anything I can read about what happens to the 'universe' online, don't really care to spend time on so many books these days.
