Some good episodes of "Barry" this season... whole season wasn't the best, but a couple of "classic" eps! Finale was very good and the motorcycle one...

weather vane 06-13-2022 02:32 AM

Just finished the finale. Very different season. I liked it.

teamXtremist 06-17-2022 01:19 AM

5 episodes into severance, and this Apple+ series is excellent. Anyone else seen it?

Lock Jaw 06-18-2022 12:58 AM

Have had a bunch of episodes of "The Goldbergs" on my DVR for awhile.... watched a couple... suuuuuuper awkward with Jeff Garlin being removed from the show... episode about the daughter's wedding and her dad reduced to an uncanny valley cameo made of old footage/sound bites and body double cut off by awkward framing and camera angles.....

Funny tbh... Got better as it went on. Wasn't sure about season 1. Feel like all of the writing was every character being like "Listen up, chucklefuck" or saying "Fuckistan" or "Whatever you say, Fuckface McFuck" and stuff... Really 2010 era writing... Was like "damn..."

But way funnier as it went on and stopped most of that type of stuff... up to season 4 now

Really enjoyed "Veep"... finished watching it all and feel bad now that I'm done

Became more absurd after the first season or two, which I like... funny @poopfromweiner dude

Ran out of great shows to watch so I started “Police Squad!” again.
I fell asleep recently when I tried to watch it for the first time in decades so I’m giving it another crack while I’m awake.

The sight gags are always good but the wordplay kills me.

“Cigarette?”
“Yes, I know.”

I hope it’s still better than The Naked Gun, those movies leant heavily into the slapstick and the ratio was a bit off between that and the jokes. As far as I remember there are more gag routines in this.

Seanny One Ball 06-27-2022 01:32 PM

I started “Barry” too. I saw the first two episodes. Episode two made me laugh for ages when the guy files Stephen Root’s teeth. I was cracking up at that, horrific but hilarious.

Seanny One Ball 06-27-2022 01:39 PM

I forgot about the bit at the credits where they “freeze frame” but really they just stay still in a goofy pose.
It’s the simple things like that which make it a classic.

“The Man Who Fell To Earth” started out much better than the film but the longer it has gone on the more insufferably familiar to the film it has become.
It’s the same huge potential wasted in slightly different ways but this time it’s worse because there was actual quality in this one. I understand the story is about humanity corrupting Newton, but now they’re just rubbing it in.

ClockShot 07-04-2022 08:00 PM

Finished off Lost in Space in Netflix. Good stuff. Wish it went longer.

Moving on to The Old Man over on FX. Start binge watching that On Demand.

I have to say it’s actually better than the film.
I’ve refused to say that until now but it really is.

#1-norm-fan 07-18-2022 11:51 AM

I haven’t seen the movie yet.

I watched the episode where The Baron wakes up and wants to have a night on the town yesterday and was laughing so hard I got a headache.

Fignuts 07-18-2022 01:50 PM

Movie is great. You should try and watch it before you get to the end of the first season.

But I agree the show has surpassed it at this point.

Seanny One Ball 07-18-2022 03:09 PM

It’s the funniest comedy out right now. There’s nothing that has that high a laugh count.
The cameos are always fantastic too. It just keeps getting better, every season is top drawer.

It should hopefully be back on soon actually.

#1-norm-fan 07-18-2022 03:43 PM

Watched the season finale of The Old Man.

I kinda saw the twist coming. But I wish it went just one more episode to tie a couple things up. 7 is just an odd number of episodes for a season.

Seanny One Ball 07-27-2022 04:33 PM

Episode four of WWDITS is one of the best ever.
Joyously daft with the Vampire night market and the familiar fighting championship.
That’s the best of the new season but episode 3 was pretty great. Little Colin Robinson is phenomenal. He’s already ten times better than Groot or Grogu.

Lock Jaw 07-28-2022 11:16 PM

Watched the first episode of Paper Girls on Amazon Prime.... maybe the most faithful comic book adaptation I have seen... characters literally look exactly like their comic counterparts

Lock Jaw 07-28-2022 11:59 PM

Second episode starting to diverge from the comic a bit, but the characters still feel like the characters

Lock Jaw 07-31-2022 12:37 AM

Finished the season of Paper Girls (8 episodes). Really enjoyed it... diverged from the comic a lot, but still felt genuine to the spirit and to the characters....

Hope it gets a season 2... "fear the worst" for it because it is on Amazon Prime and was all released at once...

Overall, I think I’d put Always Sunny above it but this has quickly become a possible top 5 all-time sitcom for me.

New episode last night was funny. Starting to turn around on the season.

Seanny One Ball 08-03-2022 06:23 PM

Always Sunny is very funny every now and then but it’s hit and miss overall.
I liked it a lot when I got to the later seasons but the last couple were mediocre. I need a much higher standard of performance if the material is going to be so predictable and weak.

2.5/4

WWDITS has an episode coming up soon called “Pine Barrens”.

Could be risky, Pine Barrens is one of the greatest episodes of any show ever.

The Resort

Seanny One Ball 08-21-2022 07:18 AM

The Righteous Gemstones, it’s a lot better than any other tv stuff Danny McBride has done. Eastbound and Down was too mean spirited and that vice principals was hard to focus on because he was just playing the same guy he always does.

At least this time the supporting cast is deeper and more talented.

Lock Jaw 08-21-2022 10:18 AM

Watched the first episode of S3 of The Orville.....

Seems like maybe they cut out all attempts at humor from the show, or either it was just a super serious episode.... episodes also longer because of being on a streaming platform.... and honestly wish it was still 40-50 minutes instead, felt like it could have been condensed and tightened up....

Seanny One Ball 08-21-2022 07:19 PM

The show where the only thing funny is the name

slik 08-21-2022 11:57 PM

I never watched Game of Thrones but decided to watch House of the Dragon bc I like having a Sunday night show on HBO to watch

The first 5 to 10 minutes I was like 'I don't know if this is for me' but damn...hooked me like halfway through the first episode...really good

Lock Jaw 08-22-2022 12:12 AM

Holding out on that one, and also on the upcoming Amazon Lord of the Rings until I hear if one is really good or something.... feel like I only have room in my life for one or the other.... and even then I don't really have room.

rez 08-22-2022 11:29 PM

Told myself I wasn't going to watch it but damnit. House of Dragons ep 1 was damn good once the pacing picked up.

It doesn't seem to have near the budget GoT had...just so glad when the credits rolled D&D's bitch ass names weren't there.

Seanny One Ball 08-23-2022 12:49 PM

The Righteous Gemstones has a lot of very small dicks in it

Helmsphere 08-25-2022 11:58 PM

That whole second half of the last season was just perfect.
That they made a heist episode and got away with it using Cinnabon…

Better Call Saulwas a fantastic tv show on its own, but as part of a greater universe it really is poetry in motion.

Vince Gilligan is a genius.

Destor 08-29-2022 08:34 PM

SPOILER: show
i could rave about the 1000 brilliant things the show did on its way to bringing it to a close but i think the thing that struck me most as a piece of writing is they managed to write a story that both has Saul face justice and let Jimmy cleanse his soul AND get the love of his woman AND not be idealic. Its just outlandish they managed this.

Seanny One Ball 08-29-2022 08:58 PM

Yeah it should have been a stretch but within the confines and rules of the show, it worked beautifully. I was very happy with it.

Seanny One Ball 08-29-2022 09:05 PM

Dear TV writers, this is what happy customers look like.

Destor take a picture with me!

Destor 08-29-2022 09:17 PM

What they did here shouldnt even be technically possible. Im just dumbstruck. The 4 things they managed in the finale should be completely at odds and yet if you look at the show in totality it was always where we were heading. This is crafting years out with deliberate beats being hit along the way to bring us to a conclusion that is poignant, heart felt and precisely perfect to a level that borderlines absurdity.

Better Call Saul stands with the best shows ever made as a peer among giants that has few rivals, fewer equals, and fewer still betters and that's if it has any at all.

Once a box set is released im going to do a breakingbad/saul rewatchand if they dropped the box set tomorrow it wouldnt be soon enough.

Seanny One Ball 09-01-2022 04:57 PM

This new Mike Tyson show is really quite good. Well written, brilliantly acted and the chemistry is all great. The real Mike seems to hate it but it has humanised him even more so than his own documentary did. That was a good documentary but it focused on the rape and then it turned out director James Toback was a creepy rapist type so now I just watch everything Tyson because it’s endless train wreck.

Seanny One Ball 09-01-2022 05:44 PM

Ok… the Buster Douglas thing…

That might be the funniest piece of non-drunk history I have seen. They used a weightlifter on all of the juice to play Buster Douglas lol…

I wonder if all of his losses will be shown as against giants of various proportions…

Lock Jaw 10-04-2022 01:17 AM

Watched the first episode of the new season of The Goldbergs to see what they would do after kicking Jeff Garlin off the show for saying vagina too much.....

Just said that his character died offscreen.... damn... first they legit lose George Segal and now another member of the family killed off...

Should probably have just ended the show.... used to really like it cause of the "interesting" autobiographical twist where it would show his actual home movies of the stuff that was going on and give hints about his actual future, etc...... feel like it has long past the point of being actually quasi-based in reality though.....

Seanny One Ball 10-04-2022 03:09 AM

It would be great if his real dad made uncomfortable vagina jokes to children and also lost his job irl.

“Sprung” was marvellous stuff. I watched for Garret Dillahunt and stayed for Martha Plimpton’s finest ever performance. That’s a 3.5/4 show out of nowhere.

Bunch of early release prisoners move in together and take on the Covid society. It’s consistently hilarious and the acting styles mesh like butt skin on a burn victim.

Binging “Barry” this week because I watched a couple of episodes a while ago and then forgot about it. I’m kind of glad I did because I didn’t know anything about it and honestly it turns into a Sopranos-style tour de force fairly quickly.
You can’t even call it a comedy really, if it’s a comedy then my theory of The Sopranos being a comedy has to hold water.

It is exceptional television though, it is equal to every other truly great show in that it enforces its rules on you and you bend to them because the quality is so thickly portioned across the table.

The drama is actually better than the comedy, the comedy is purely a relief by season 3.

So much fucked up stuff happens. It’s very well put together. Also the action scenes can be great, that whole Taekwondo episode was just magic.

Seanny One Ball 10-26-2022 04:57 PM

Every episode of Barry moves forward. Some shows are terrified of progress because it signals the end.
Changes come thick and fast in Barry.

It was the worst season, and the tragedy is that because the previous seasons were so strong it’s actually hard to tell if it was bad or simply not as good.

Nadja was particularly annoying this season.

#1-norm-fan 10-27-2022 01:54 PM

Yeah. Especially with the night club storyline I felt like this season got too cute and campy at times. Deviated from the usual vibe of the show too much. Jokes seemed kinda lazy too.
