Esmil Rogers......I have no words. Guy can't get a batter out if his life depended on it as a reliver, moves to starter and is unhittable.

Skippord 06-14-2013 05:31 AM

He's a terrible terrible reliever, I always thought he had potential as a starter though. Got jerked around a ton here.

DaveBrawl 06-14-2013 09:42 AM

Fowler, Tulo and Cargo in one game? And now the freefall begins.

The Condor 06-14-2013 11:43 AM

O's beating the Red Sox in extras was a decent consolation to that NYY game. Thanks Droford.

He throws a lot of breaking balls. That's a receipe for disaster in Coors Field.

MLB suspended 8 people from the Dodgers-Dbacks brawl a couple of days ago.

Diamondbacks:
* Ian Kennedy - 10 games
* Eric Hinske - 5 games
* Kirk Gibson - 1 game

Dodgers:
* J.P. Howell - 2 games
* Skip Schumaker - 2 games
* Mark McGwire - 2 games
* Ronald Belisario - 1 game
* Don Mattingly - 1 game

Mattingly and Gibson were suspended because of the team's actions and not anything specific they did during the brawl. Same for McGwire but Belisario was suspended for for what he did during the brawl.

Damian Rey 06-14-2013 04:27 PM

They should suspend starting pitchers for starts, instead of games.

That is true, he had an issue with his slider breaking too much and becoming incredibly wild and then his fastball would get hammered.

Glad to hear he's doing well though.

No he shouldn't have.

The bigger travesty is Grienke getting off scot free.

SlickyTrickyDamon 06-15-2013 12:19 AM

Other than getting hit in the face with a baseball? Greinke did the retaliatory bean in the proper place: the back. That's where you're supposed to do it when you are intentionally throwing at somebody.

The throw at Puig wasn't intentional. The throw at Grienke clipped the back of his front shoulder instead of the back.

But that's because Kennedy has had some control issues all year :(

Damian Rey 06-15-2013 12:45 PM

Padres take two of four in Colorado, and played so well, Cargo, Fowler and Tulo were all injured shortly after, then sweep Atlanta, and rattle off a fourth consecutive victory, defeating Arizona last night on "1998 Night".

They're, I believe, just a game or two under 500, and have gone something like 26 or 27 and 19 after starting 5-15.

They still don't have enough starting pitching to make this last. Stults and Marquis are smoke and mirroring their way to solid seasons, but you can't bank on guys with low strikeout totals and below average BABIPs to keep it going. At some point, they will get hit. Volquez is too inconsistent, and Clayton Richard has never been anything more than a league average pitcher, and he's been less than that pretty much since 2010. Cashner is great, but he's an injury risk, and this is his first full season as a starter.

If the Padres somehow miraculously get enough games over .500 to get into contention, they're going to need some starting pitching. Not a ton out there that's readily available, and I'd rather not drain the farm of talent when I still think the team is another year or two away.

Damian Rey 06-17-2013 02:13 PM

I think hes gone, regardless. They traded a lot to be what will end up being e mediocre team thats on the same level, if not a few steps behind Cleveland. The prospects they have had on the main roster haven't panned out, like Hosmer and Moustakas. Outside of Brett, I can see a massive front office and coaching staff overhaul after this year.

Feel he'd be doomed regardless of if the team was good or not this year. Gave or dropped too much for the chance at instant success but their window is way too small and the division is still Detroit's to own.

Even for the Wild Card spots they are facing heavy competition and teams better suited to stay in the hunt for the next few years.

The City of San Jose has filed a lawsuit against MLB for "dragging their feet" about the Athletics relocation vote.

From espn.com

Quote:

SAN FRANCISCO -- Major League Baseball is dragging its feet on having team owners vote on the Oakland Athletics' proposed move to a new ballpark 40 miles south in San Jose, San Jose city officials said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The lawsuit -- filed in federal court in San Jose -- is disputing MLB's exemption to federal antitrust law, which MLB has used as a "guise" to control the location of teams, according to the suit.
<!-- begin inline 1 -->
"It's time for someone to take on this supposed baseball exemption from antitrust laws," said attorney Phil Gregory of Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, the law firm representing the city. "The City of San Jose is a perfect candidate to make that challenge."

The San Francisco Giants have objected to the A's potential move on grounds they relied on territorial rights to the San Jose-area market when they built their ballpark, AT&T Park.

The A's say those rights were only meant to support the Giants' failed efforts in the early 1990s to build a San Jose-area ballpark themselves.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig appointed a committee more than four years ago to study the potential move.

He rejected a proposal earlier this year from San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed to sit down and talk about the A's plans and said Reed's reference to additional litigation at the time was "neither productive nor consistent with process that the Athletics have initiated under our rules."
<!-- end inline 2 -->
The A's and Major League Baseball officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A's owner Lew Wolff has said he is focused on a new stadium in San Jose rather than a move outside the Bay Area. Wolff is allowed to consider other sites within the A's territory -- such as downtown Oakland -- but approval from MLB would be needed for a move outside the territory.

The A's current stadium is run down. A sewage problem forced the A's and Seattle Mariners to use the same locker room after Sunday's game.

The pipes backed up on the lower levels of the stadium, creating a stink and pools of water in the clubhouses used by both teams and the umpires.
Gregory said Wolff is not involved in the lawsuit.

The Fraze 06-18-2013 07:24 PM

San Jose is The Giants' territory, plain and simple. It's really not that difficult to grasp. The A's shouldn't have rights to it, regardless of which side you're on. If the A's do move out of Oakland (which I don't think they should, just like I didn't think the 49ers should move out of San Francisco to Santa Clara, despite San Jose being my hometown), then they should relocate to Sacramento. Sacramento already has a stadium that houses their Triple-A affiliate and can be built upon to support a major league club. Plus, with the new downtown arena coming to town and The Kings staying, Sacramento is going to be an up and coming sports market.

Emperor Smeat 06-19-2013 03:22 PM

New details from the Miami clinic were revealed.

* MLB paid the marketing director of the clinic about $5,000 in order to gain partial access to the records they needed for their investigation. Also as a way to prevent players from purchasing it themselves. Tried to buy out the rest for another $10,000 but the guy refused and was already fearing for his life.
* A-Rod supposedly bribed the founder of the clinic around $4,000 in order to make sure he wasn't exposed and any problems taken care of.
* A-Rod also was still having meetings with the founder as late as last year's ALCS without the Yankees even aware these meetings were going on.

This is the best run of pitching I 've ever seen the Jays do and that includes their championship runs. Allowed 4 runs in a 4 game set in Texas, shut out the Rockies then allowed 2 earned runs last night. It's hard not to get optimistic. Their defence HAS to improve though.

I haven't checked this thread in a few pages (because really, fuck that), but I gotta retract some of my comments on Davis from earlier. Dude's beasting right now. Obvs I'd love to see Miggy threaten for another triple crown, but watching Davis do his thing right now has gotta be one of the most fun things going on in the league atm. Sucks it had to come at the expense of the Tigers this past series...

Damian Rey 06-19-2013 09:21 PM

Yeah, he's on fire. The thing I'm most impressed with is his plate discipline. His strikeouts are down, walks are up. He's turning the corner, I think. It's different when someone goes on a tear hitting fastballs only to fall back to Earth. Davis is legitimately getting better.
