I'm sorry, but that is just a terrible idea. NOT doing stuff like that is why I preferred DC.
|
Seriously "upset" right now. Like nothing I have ever read matters anymore. I can only hope and pray that this is going to be a temporary thing like how Marvel did after Onslaught and that things will return to "normal" soon.
Terrible, just terrible. |
|
I like Clark's duds, happy to see the underwear gone. Not fond of replacing Diana's gold with silver. Aqua Man and Hal look like always. I HOPE they don't screw with Batman's INC suit. All this talk about new era this and that only for them to change the costume anyway. In fact this voids a lot of recent stuff...
Interesting in a Geoff/Lee JL run, though. |
Like I said-
If it's written by Grant Morrison, I'll give it a shot.... everything else... unless something changes in my head, I don't really care... I'll just get what catches my eye either in singles or trade (I could wait as long as my life a bit more active and I continue my streak in trying not to be so recluse) and I will be a lot more strict if I decide to subscribe to a book because I need get less comics and not more. I think it'll make people even more selective because they know in a few years that book won't mean shit..... which is why i stopped bagging 98% of my comics about a year ago. i'd get shit by grant Morrison, but i can honestly just wait for the trades cause i like hardcovers/sofcovers better than single issues and as long as i'm not mad bored during that time, i can wait... i'll see. |
Grant Morrison is apparently to write one of the new Superman series.
|
This is almost guaranteed to go over like a fart in church. It just reeks of gimmicky bullshit.
Also, I hate how so many redesigns of Superman's costume have a high collar like that. How's that supposed to hide under Clark's regular clothes? I mean, he's already got enough logistical problems with the cape and the boots, he doesn't need that extra bit popping up over the top of his work clothes. Actually, looking at that picture, is everyone going to have to have that V-neck high collar? I mean, you gave Wonder Woman a necklace, just so she can have that V-neck collar look going on. Fucking stop it! |
Positive as usual, Nowhere.
|
Well, it is tough to be positive in a very very negative situation.
|
Oh, and while I'm on the subject of bitching about the costume re-designs, didn't they just change Wonder Woman's costume back to the original look because everyone hated Lee's redesign? And now for the reboot he's changing it right back, out of spite I can only assume.
|
You don't fuck with Superman's costume.
|
If they're going to reboot it, they should at least be doing it after an epic Crisis on Infinite Earths-like story.
Not an alternate reality story that is inevitable a story about The Flash. |
Quote:
|
Nah.
|
Hawkman
is what I have to say about that. |
lol Johns/Lee book...we'll get an issue every 6 months
|
I think it'll be quite interesting to see what they do and don't keep post-reboot, but this still seems like a pretty awful idea.
If they want to jettison continuity baggage, they should have just stuck with something like the All Star range instead of just doing it right across the board. |
What I want to know is how much are they resetting things?
I mean, there's a whooooole whack load of characters who pretty much depend on the current history being intact. |
If there's anything I learned about comic book mythologies, especially DC comics, is to never get used to anything. It was only a matter of time before they went this route. It just seems abrupt and desperate and disrespectful to recent projects aimed to shake things up.
Marvel sticks to their guns. Most retcons are under the hood and barely noticeable. Other things, like Bucky Cap, dead Uncle Ben, dead-ish Jean Grey, Wolverine's origin, faction changes, status changes, power changes; Marvel has a much better track record than DC sticking to their guns. |
Larger image of the new J(im)ustice L(e)eague:
http://i.newsarama.com/images/JL_Cv1.jpg Flash can't get the V-neck high collar, so he gets a chin patch. Also, ROFL at Hal Jordan's WANG CANNON. Real subtle. |
|
That better be Dick. I know the truth but... that better be Dick Grayson.
|
I have a feeling that this retcon will only go for about a year or so - DC will realize soon enough that 'Tec will be reaching issue #900 about then and they'll go back to original numbering starting there - including retconning the retcon.
|
See, this is why I like limited series like Y or Pilgrim or one offs.
|
I hope this brings Jean Paul Valley back from the grave, I'm sure it won't and this retcon probably won't last, but I hope it at least brings him back.
|
A bunch more covers and titles revealed:
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dc-r...es-110602.html No idea who the chick in black and yellow trim on the JLI cover is supposed to be. Gypsy? Donna Troy? Hawkman's new costume looks pretty terrible. Mr. Terrific's new costume actually might be cool. |
Hawk Man doesn't look too different.
It seems Wonder Woman's streetwise stint was a prototype for this costume. I'm alright with it, but I rather have more gold. There's a Batman in JLI. Is that Dick, because there's a Batman in JL... Maybe things didn't change that much? |
Probably bruce, since thats who was on the original team.
|
Seems strange that they'd have Bruce headline two teams, and he wouldn't even be front and center in a team full of B-listers.
|
Thought dick was on justice league.
|
He is now. But with everything being rebooted, who knows what the hell is going to happen.
Pretty much all of the Bat-Family characters rely on previous history for them existing as they do today. |
FUCK
Damien is almost certainly gone. I love that kid. Fuck. And watch them return Babs to the Batgirl role. Stephanie is screwed. All those years of investment. Fuck. |
So I just spent the last 6 years finally getting into DC and learning it's ridiculous history, only for them to do this. I don't understand why this is necessary.
|
I didn't read DC comics weekly, but I kept up for ages. Who lives, who dies, what the year's big event is.
Now I probably won't give a shit unless they do this wisely and reboot things softly. This may not be the case because you can't have Dick-Batman if you're de-aging Bruce. You can't have Supergirl or Connor if you're essentially importing Earth One 'Twilight' Clark. You can't have Cassie if Diana's reverted to her early twenties. This reboot potentially shits on DC's entire 'youth' generation which, ironically, should have been the ones to lead DC's push for new readers in the first place. |
Yeah, Titans was awesome, before it went all villainous.
|
I'm actually into Flashpoint more than Fear Itself. I'm happy because now I can just get like 2 or 3 books from DC and be good and not really care about whats going on, if I'm curious I'll go online.
Gonna cut down on Marvel as well.. gonna try to limit myself to 10-12 books a month,... I'll see in a few months for sure. I just hope this doesn't get in the way of Morison's Batman stories... unless he gets involved and co-writes or some shit. |
Green Lantern titles revealed: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu...rn-110603.html
Looks like all four Earth Green Lanterns are still around, along with all the other colors of the rainbow. Red Lanterns still getting their own series too. Pretty much the same writers handling the various series as well. Really confused about this now, though. How much of the GL history is intact? Hal being Paralax? Sinestro Corps War? Blackest Night? War of the Green Lanterns? WHAAAT IS GOING ON?! |

I don't even read comics that much and this pisses me off.
|
This is what DC said yesterday in terms of "reboot": "And by the way, let me just reiterate this point: this is the launch of the New DCU. It is not a “reboot.” I think you will soon discover why that is."
Splendid |
Yeah, but it does seem like a reboot for some characters at least.
I guess it is just wait and see with this thing now. |
Could it be similar to what Marvel did with the Ultimate series?
I dunno. I don't read comics. I'm confused. Just ignore me. |
http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/files/2011/06/ntw_cv1.jpg
Cover to Nightwing #1. So apparently, Dick is back to being Nightwing. Unless, of course, this is Jason Todd. |
Damn. That sucks big time.
|
I'm so confused DAMMIT.
|
Ew. And I was really loving Dick's run as Batman, too.
|
That could be tim, ya know.
|
....I would actually be cool with that. I always thought 'Red Robin' was kind of a dumb name anyway. It'd make a lot of sense, if Dick got bumped up to Batman and Damian is Robin, then Tim could be Nightwing.
|
Also apparently going to be a Batgirl #1 with Barbara Gordon back in the role. Hmm.
|
"Stephanie who?"
|
Oh man, if they've retconned out The Killing Joke, shit is gonna hit the fan.
|
They've been revealing Batman book all day: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu...es-110606.html
No idea what the hell is going on with this "reboot". Good news is Damian is still around. Who knows how that works with the altered history. Barbara Gordon is back as Batgirl, no sign of Stephanie Brown (which is a shame because I loved her as Batgirl). No sign of Tim Drake yet. Dick back as Nightwing, but apparently his stint as Batman is still "in continuity". Birds of Prey with no sign of the regular cast except for a badly redesigned Black Canary. Some Red Hood and The Outlaws series that has Red Hood, a two-armed Aresnal/Red Arrow, and Starfire on the cover. Who knows if Red Hood is Jason, or Tim, or someone new... Some new series called "Batwing" that seems to have a black Batman dude for sake of diversity. I really don't know what is happening. |
I really don't get what DC are trying to achieve with this now. If you're rebooting something, do you really want to have 4 Batman books on the go right from the start?
And can the continuity reboot really be that extreme if Morrison is still going to be able to finish his overall arc on Batman? This makes less sense with every new detail that emerges. |
THANK GOD Damien is still Robin, and he'll work with Bruce for the first time as a father/son Dynamic Duo. This is the best news I heard about this reboot/revamp/whatever. Sorry for Stephanie, though, maybe she'll be the spoiler again?
|
Everything was getting so good. I've even been enjoying superman since that last brainiac story. FUCKING SUPERMAN
WHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY |
Ten bucks says Batwing doesn't last more than a year.
|
At least Batwoman stays. And I like Red Hood.
|
Today they are revealing various "supernatural"-type comics: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu...es-110607.html
No idea why they put Animal Man in with this bunch, though. I bet more than half of these books get canceled. |
More reveals: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu...ms-110608.html
Looks like they have completely screwed over/changed Red Robin, Wonder Girl, Superboy, and Kid Flash. No solo series for Tim Drake either, apparently. |

what
WHAT |
Red Robin looks like the second Black Condor now.
This guy: http://tenzel.net/dcuguide/images/b/blackcondor2.gif |
Cosmic Boy's new look in Legion Lost is pretty brutal too.
And of course, Rob Liefield doing art on anything is pretty brutal. |
Actually Tim looks badass. Cassie, Connor, and Bart looks like assholes. Did they let Image Comics redesign them?
Static looks cool. |
Cassie looks ok.
Never liked the whole "wings attached to arms" costume thing that some characters have had. Looks silly and impractical. |

Liefeld? Really? Really?
|
Maybe we'll get a katana wielding, gunning, version of Booster Gold.
|
With pouches. Don't forget the pouches.
|
Honest to God, how on Earth is Rob Liefeld still getting work?
|
Rob Liefeld hates feet.
|
Few more titles: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu...ar-110609.html
Bunch of WildStorm guys coming over to DC looks like. Martian Manhunter shoehorned in with them instead of the Justice League. I think with this latest batch... only 6 more books until we reach the "52". Really concerned for the Justice Society here. |
And we haven't had the Superman books revealed yet. Probably take up at least 4 of the remaining 6.
|
Grifter? Hmm...
Black Hawks needed a reboot, I guess. Wouldn't have thought 'GI Joe'. Why does Slade have Batman elements in his design? |
Cause it is the 90s all over again! Fins and jagged edges for everyone!
|
I wonder what this new Blackhawk series means for Lady Blackhawk. She was kinda Awesome in Birds of Prey.
|
Two new series were revealed. Blue Beetle and Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad features more HORRIBLE redesigns: SPOILER: show |
OMG
Who ever thought that was a good idea should probably be fired. |
Jesus Christ.
This has the stink of Marvel's "Heroes Reborn" all over it. |

Thought I read that DC was trying to make their women have more "realistic" costumes in order to A) appease/attract more female readers, and B) make the characters more mainstream marketable (see: Wonder Woman).
Someone should have told Harleen... |
Seriously. You put pants on Wonder Woman because the classic one-piece isn't acceptable anymore, but then take Harley who's completely covered up in a full bodysuit, and then put her in a half-open corset and a pair of booty shorts?
|
Last four books revealed. As expected, they are Action Comics, Superman, Supergirl, and Superboy: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/dcnu...led-11010.html
Along with the horrible redesigns. http://i.newsarama.com/images/superman-cover-1.jpg Also, no Justice Society in this new DC Universe is really really crappy. |
Supergirl got the shaft. And if Super-Cyborg-Boy is Superboy who the hell is the kid rocking the House of El crest in the Teen Titans?
What the fuck is going on here? |
I'm hoping that's just a bad job of inking, because it makes Superman's suit look like it's some high-tech/armored suit deal, and when he's already invincible, that's just.....kind of pointless. Also, that cover makes it look like he's wrecking up the place--so I guess Lex Luthor was right all along?
And we're back to making the Kryptonians a bunch of egotistical dick-wads who don't like humanity again, judging from the synopsis they've given of Supergirl. Between this and the New Krypton story from the soon-to-be-defunct continuity, I find myself feeling rather glad that their planet blew up. Oh, and Superboy's apparently doing a Wolverine "superhuman weapon" thing now. Weapon-S, if you will. Blegh. |
Why are they doing this again?
|
I miss cheerleader Supergirl. :(
Superman's belt should be yellow ffs. The art's just bad but otherwise I don't mind the suit. Losing the trunks was something I looked forward to. |
I actually like the trunks. Yes, they're outdated and everyone makes the joke about how he's wearing his underwear on the outside, but it at least breaks up all of the blue. Without them, the costume just looks really monotone, just lots of blue with red on the bottom and in the back (with the boots and cape I mean). The belt breaks it up a bit, but not very much.
|
Quote:
|
He's the Big Blue Boyscout, making that an ever more dominating color doesn't hurt in my eyes. He has to have the primary colors, make that belt yellow.
I was hoping DC would strap trunks universe wide over time, and I was happy when Bruce came back with none (only to give it right back to him). |
Hmmm... just noticed something in the description: "This momentous first issue will set in motion the history of the DC Universe as Superman defends a world that doesn’t trust their first Super Hero."
Sooo... not only does the Justice Society not get a book in this new universe, they never existed? |
Unless... Action Comics is set in the past. The cover he is in a different "costume".
Then it calls Superman #1 "The Man of Tomorrow, Today". Dunno how that would work. |
I guess they wouldn't jive with DC's cross-media plans. The Superman book sounds like the story for the upcoming movie.
|
Still waiting for the punchline.
|
I think maybe six months into this they go "Surprise! This was all on another Earth(s)! Leading to our big crossover Multiverse event by Grant Morrison that will end up making very little sense!"
|

I guess I'll be good with Justice League and Action Comics. So far that's two DC books I should be getting.. but again I'm trying to avoid single comics... but I guess 2 books from DC should be fine.
I really need to rework my pull list and condense things to less comics and only get what excites me the most, not just get books cause I'm bored and heard the book is good...cause since ever since April... I been reading less and less and comics lay around while I go to work and then hang out somewhere. |
Yeah, is this like a new coke thing or what?
|
On the subject of DC Movie News:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/as...1308069331.jpg Clark and Lois. |
