New dashboards typically mean new wave, right?

So you gotta wait for a new iXtreme firmware, I believe.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-27-2010 04:08 PM

No, thats new discs. It's the same wave and it boots on the existing non-beta dash. There's not even checks on the wave on the LT firmwares so it should boot any.

Also, it's flagging the console as banned from Live in the NAND without ever connecting to Live as well...

For those with PS3s, Sony officially starting the beta version of Playstation Rewards program. The program itself will be available to everyone else starting April 2011.

To be included, you either need to be a Playstation Plus or Game Advisory Panel member.

Quote:

The program has three reward tiers: Select, Pro and Legendary. Members advance through each tier based on their level of engagement and actions including playing new games for the first time, buying content from PlayStation Network in PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home, downloading movies and TV shows, or engaging in communication with PlayStation like taking surveys.

The program is set up to recognize the most loyal, most prolific Playstation members, with about 20 percent representing that top tier, Panico said.
Right now only PS3 users are allowed but Sony wants to include PSP users into the program at a later date.

Pinball FX 2 is cool. And If you have 1, you can get the upgrades into 2 for free.

Funky Fly 10-28-2010 04:46 PM

There's 2 versions of Pinball FX 2. A free one and a $10 one.

Emperor Smeat 10-28-2010 06:34 PM

Preview of Donkey Kong Country Returns confirms the game's difficulty won't take a hit and will be very similar and at times harder than the original SNES series of games. While people complained Kirby's Epic Yarn was too easy, DKC Returns won't follow the same route in terms of no dying.

Also confirmed is Retro Studios recreated the entire "Rare" experience for the game and didn't put their own style or "Metroid Prime" style into the game.

The game is still on schedule for a November 21 release date at a $50 price.

Fable 3, Rock band 3 or Deadly Premonition?

Drakul 10-29-2010 07:29 AM

Fable III since you already have Kingmaker etc.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-29-2010 07:52 AM

Probably say Deadly Premonition, until you can get pro instruments unless you want a keyboard, then RB3 takes priority.

Fable would be 3rd, but DP is so cheap you can probably pick both up. DP also only has a limited release so you'll be able to pick up Fable anytime but DP may vanish from store shelves.

His full job title had been Head of R&D Management Group, Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division (phew). In a blog post titled "Sayonara", Inafune explains why.

"A manager's work means evaluating your subordinates and speaking your dreams. Anyone who can do both of those can be a manager. I thought that when I came here, and I still think that now."

The problem being, Inafune believes he can no longer do both those things.

He also reflects on this 23 years at Capcom. Inafune started out as a character designer but, as he points out, he's now reached the top of Capcom's development structure. "There's nowhere higher for me to go."

"I'm leaving Capcom with the intention of starting my life over", he adds. Inafune says he's looking for his next challenge and will not be taking a break.

"People that really know me, can see where I'm coming from. I'm not a regular dude. It's probably because I'm strange."

He closes saying he'll do his best and with a "thank you".

In an interview with 4Gamer.net, Inafune states that he wants to work for Capcom. "Honestly, the situation has become such that I can't." Inafune could be referring to the reasons he gives in his blog post.

However, Inafune has increasingly taken more heat online — especially in Japan — for controversial remarks like stating that the Japanese game industry is "finished".

Inafune has also resigned from his position as CEO of Daletto, a Capcom subsidiary. Aside from Mega Man, he is best known for creating (or helping create) other notable Capcom franchises like Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Onimusha. In his post, he gave no indication of what he's moving onto next.

Source.

I wonder how this'll effect the Megaman series etc. Megaman Legends 3 in particular.

Fignuts 10-29-2010 01:20 PM

Dunno about Legends, but Megaman isn't rocket science. Keep the tight controls, and good level design, and they can do whatever they want to the rest of the game.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-29-2010 03:01 PM

Why do you think Legends 3 has votes on the designs? It was suspected this would happen.

D Mac 10-29-2010 04:12 PM

Got Hasbro Family Game Night 3 and Clue is pretty disappointing. You can't just play the classic Clue game, you have to play with their stupid Minigame rules. :(

Emperor Smeat 10-29-2010 05:47 PM

Sony of Japan denies any chance of Demon Souls II ever being made any time soon even though the company and development team loved the game in terms of sales, praise, and actual work on it.

Only thing confirmed is if it ever gets made, no PS Move support unless Sony forces it as an optional configuration.

G 10-29-2010 09:49 PM

So why are they dropping the servers so soon for DS?

Emperor Smeat 10-29-2010 10:09 PM

Either because Sony needs them for upcoming games or lack of players similar to MAG dropping servers a couple of months after it was released.

It has been about a year since the US and Japan release of the game so it probably is more related to lack of players filling the servers.

Kalyx triaD 10-30-2010 07:26 PM

Good luck, Keiji.

OssMan 10-31-2010 11:55 AM

Seiken Densetsu 3 - Really fuc*ing hard. Takes forever to level up. Insane boss fights right after each other. At least it's better than Secret of Mana.

XenoGears - I am really not about this game so far. Read for an hour, go find your friends, battle for 30 minutes, get lost in a sewers, read for another hour.

Kirby's Epic Yarn - It is so easy.

Funky Fly 10-31-2010 03:04 PM

AssMan, have you ever played any of the Tales Of series? I get the feeling you might like the storylines, but hate the actual gameplay.

OssMan 11-01-2010 01:24 AM

Have never played those. Is Skies of Arcadia part of that? Cause I want to play that one. Was going to eventually play Tales of Symphonia probably. What is the gameplay like

Funky Fly 11-01-2010 01:56 AM

Arcadia is its own IP. Every Tales of game is "Tales of _____". Most of the games are real time 3D 4 player 3rd person combat. A couple of the titles are 1 player real time side scrolling combat.

Most of the series is like this:

SPOILER: show

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BhJTZUw_7OE?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BhJTZUw_7OE?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

A few are like this:

SPOILER: show

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xkMul6kh8O4?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xkMul6kh8O4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

OssMan 11-01-2010 11:40 AM

Sounds feasible. Looks kinda like Star Ocean or Final Fantasy 12. I liked both of those, would have liked Star Ocean a lot more if it wasn't for a few obnoxious flaws in the battle syste.

Kalyx triaD 11-01-2010 03:15 PM

XBL working again wooooooo

Fable 3 scratched to hell boooooooo

Funky Fly 11-01-2010 03:24 PM

Symphonia is glorious, def get it. Also, get Abyss and Legendia, the 2 released on PS2. The one on the Wii is a sequel to Symphonia, but it's kinda weak by comparison so you might just wanna bootleg the motherfucker.

Fuuuuck, Vesperia is sooooo good. Love that one. It's on 360 rn, but a suped up version is on PS3 in Japan. Their shit is region free, so I dunno. Dunno if it's ever going to come to American PS3s.

Microsoft rumored to be considering bringing back the Project Gotham Racing series as a way to compliment their Forza series. Original studio behind the PGR series was bought by Activision in 2007 and helped create Blur in 2010.

One rumor is to have the Forza developers also work on PGR 5 but Microsoft is looking more for a European developer to take on the series on its own.

Next Resident Evil Game American?:

A document forwarded to Kotaku indicates that a new, team-based Resident Evil game is currently in development at Slant Six. The developer is responsible for SOCOM:U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation for the PlayStation 3 as well as two iterations for the PSP, Tactical Strike and Fireteam Bravo 3. Named (or codenamed) in the document as Resident Evil: Raccoon City, Slant Six looks to be staffing up to bring even more zombie game development to Vancouver.

When contacted for comment, publisher reps said "Capcom does not respond to rumors and/or speculation."

Slant Six Games writes on its official web site that it is currently in development on "an amazing new project" that is unannounced. That project is being developed in conjunction with a "new publishing partner on a world class franchise." Several Slant Six current and former employees list an unannounced "multiplayer action game" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on their LinkedIn profiles.

In March of this year, Slant Six solicited work for a "Japanese translator/interpreter."

Capcom has looked outside of Japan for help on some of its better known franchises, including GRIN (Bionic Commando), Ninja Theory (Devil May Cry) and Blue Castle Games (Dead Rising 2), another Vancouver based studio that had its zombie project leaked well in advance.

This really sounds cool. I like the dev team and RE5 paved the way for the tone (in both action and multiplayer). Since RE had several spin-offs, I trust this won't be in the official line anyway. This is much easier to swallow than DmC, and may prove to be a good move like Dead Rising 2.

Kalyx triaD 11-02-2010 08:50 AM

I thought that was pretty decent. I didn't put hours into it because I don't have a PS3, but the little I played didn't turn me off. And I'm not too crazy about the SOCOM series at all, but Confrontation wasn't bad.

Under proper direction, these guys good do a decent kind of RE, especially if it's actually based on the Raccoon City era (I'd place it somewhere else but RC is the rumor).

Kalyx triaD 11-02-2010 11:55 AM

Glancing over my nephew playing GTA San Andreas and... there's some shit I would have liked to see in GTA4. Namely the occupation modes when you get in a firetruck, ambulance, or police car. Were they added in any of the expansions or what? I think you could hunt criminals in GTA4 using the police website, I think.

Drakul 11-02-2010 02:28 PM

Yeah you could hunt crimials from a "most wanted" list or just listen to the police radio for random crimes that are happening at that time.

I guess they took out the other jobs for the sake of realism? Though I'm not sure how it would be unrealistic to have an illegal immagrant being a taxi driver when it's ok to give him the ability to be a cop.

Microsoft reviving the episodic "tv show" plan for a new gaming show revolving around online poker. Same studio and marketing that was behind "1 vs 100" is developing the new game show.

Beta invites and applications have already started with the initial batch being picked by e-mail.

Most likely Microsoft will support this new show better due to lower costs to maintain and easier to setup for shows and tournaments unlike 1v100 that became too expensive over time.

A lot of RPGs are like that. 5 hours of "oh, ok this is the boring part" before you get to "holy shit, this game is sweet". Even Mass Effect suffers from this. Dragon Age worked around it by giving you 6 origin stories, so it's all mad different.

OssMan 11-07-2010 01:59 AM

 XenoGears

But it was more like 25 hours of the boring part.

Xero 11-07-2010 08:39 AM

lol, playing DKC and never really read any of Kranky Kong's scenes before. Pretty funny stuff.

OssMan 11-07-2010 10:34 AM

XeroGears. There is an odd Super Mario 64 reference in Cranky's Save Cave in DKC3. But Cranky has the best music in DKC2.

Drakul 11-07-2010 10:50 AM

It's Wrinkly's cave, not Cranky's. Cranky is at the minigame stand in DKC3.

V 11-07-2010 11:30 AM

the reason is Donkey Kong Country 3 came out after, or near the same time as the N64, so they were just advertising/referencing it in DKC 3.

I remember buying DKC 3 and the N64 almost at the same time.

Kalyx triaD 11-07-2010 02:21 PM

Yeah that was strange. Should have just ported the game, but I guess that infringed on the whole 3D era bullshit we rushed into.

There were games that used sprites with a 3D background (ex. Killer Instinct Gokd).

Maybe Paper Mario but never played it on the N64.

Konami announces Metal Gear Rising will miss the late 2011 release date they wanted and now is set as a TBA 2012 release date. Earliest the game could be released now is middle to late 2012 since an early 2012 date would have been announced by now.

No reason why the game is delayed but the Metal Gear series does have a history of delaying games past original release dates.

Rockstar to release trailer to the long delayed L.A. Noire game on November 11.

The game has been through 3-4 development studios since 2004 and been funded initially by Sony until 2007/2008 when Rockstar took over.

Rumor has it one of the secret deals involving the GTA Episodes being "exclusive" to Microsoft meant this game had to be exclusive to the PS3. Once Microsoft lost the exclusive deal to the Episodes, this game became a multi-platform game to appease Microsoft.

Games with turbulent development histories usually show it. I hope R* managed to get something out of it.

So is that game going to be a noir gangster free roam? I'm guessing it will be to noir movies what Red Dead was to westerns?

If so, that's incredible. Although GTA has touched on so much of noir and crime films, despite being in a modern setting.
I don't think it will be as refreshing as RDR was. I'm not sure what other time-period/genre they can tap into though.

More like your a detective investigating a major crime or series of crimes but using the GTA model for free roaming and world. They want the game to look like the old 1940s and 1950s style detective films in appearance.

I forgot how the game was shaping up when the initial team and then Sony were making the game but it was going to be a bit different in style than what Rockstar is doing. Sony kept rejecting and changing stuff during development which explained why it cost almost $60-$100 million before they sold it to Rockstar to finish.

The other game Rockstar is doing called Agent is completely different since your a spy during the Cold War.

Agent sounds better. Any more info on that?

Nope just that as of now its exclusive to the PS3 (Sony is funding the game), the setting is the 1970s Cold War era, and your either a spy or secret agent.

By tapping into westerns and now noir, they've really touched on the two film genres that have the most distinct identities.
I'm curious what they will do after that. Agent sounds cool. Hopefully it's a love letter to Bond/espionage films.
