Weird that he wanted to play Aladdin considering his fear on monkeys. Wonder how he thought that was gonna work out?

Sepholio 01-22-2022 01:22 PM

Almost forgot why I came here. Lio Rush is done with AEW. Letting his contract expire in a couple weeks. He's already taking bookings.

"letting his contract expire." Sure. :shifty:

I hope to God that Ali thing is true.

I’ve now reversed my stance on this. Ali might just be a genius.

This got brought up on Grillin JR and I had no idea this existed. It's Earthquake in a Smackdown Dark Match in 2002. Earthquake is only 38 here!

I'm going to ride past the Aladdin shit, and focus on this. I need to word what I say carefully for the comparison I'm about to make*, but this is very akin to the Owen Hart thing, and good on Ali for standing his ground on that, even to Vince.

Keeping him under contract is pretty petty, though. Especially when the place just got done firing a bunch of people who expected to have a job. And to the comment of "it could be a work", remember, this is the same company who did an angle about firing people AND REALLY RELEASED THEM!

*I almost said "hill to die on" without even thinking about mentioning Owen. I thought better when actually seeing it written out.

I am so down for that.

As silly as it sounds, I want them to acknowledge Dominick as a title in and of himself, and use that internet "belt" history of his custody. WWE has done worse.

I actually remember this from when it happened. Tenta had a tryout match, maybe a quick run on WWE c show's like Velocity I think. So weird because it feels like Tenta should be really old here but obviously he's not. He probably would have been pretty good for Japan at this time, if he wasn't working there already. Japan had a lot of promotions in the early 2000's.

Bad News Gertner 01-24-2022 08:54 AM

Watched the 2010 Rumble last night. It's hilarious listening to Cole and Lawler get more and more frustrated with Matt Striker lol

Jordan 01-24-2022 09:02 AM

He said some really stupid shit around that time. His obsession with alliteration is the worst.

It got down to the final 4: HBK, Edge, Batista and Cena. All four are laying in the ring. Edge had just returned from injury. Striker makes a comment that Edge looks rusty or something like that. Lawler laughs and says "what are you talking about". Striker goes silent lol.

Evil Vito 01-24-2022 09:47 AM

I feel like at the time, most people here dug Striker because he was "one of us". But with the passage of time we realized how insufferable the IWC can be at times and so his commentary really aged like milk.

Haha! I fucking remember watching this. Heenan was the best. Think I went to a house show where he ended up in a match with Bossman after talking about his momma or something? Heenan wasn't a full time wrestler, and I wanna say I recall Bossman bringing down some MASSIVE chain.

I remember it being a thing where Bossman teased the beatdown, but I can't remember if it actually happened. Heenan was doing the chicken shit heel role perfectly, begging in the corner, running, etc.

Ahhhhh, fun times.

Lock Jaw 01-24-2022 10:31 AM

Weird at directly acknowledging the cameras and camera crew, even showing them.... but then ignoring the camera right in front of him at the end. Funny stuff though.... Heenan the man

I think using the “insider terms” (“I’M MARKING OUT, BRO!”) was the proverbial straw. It still takes me out of the work now, really disliked Cody explicitly stating that he’s not turning/going heel. I know kayfabe is dead and all, but it’s just something I’m not keen on.

Lock Jaw 01-24-2022 11:02 AM

My fav Striker moment is always that one time Cena had to join Nexus and had to do something or get fired, but if he did it he would be free... then the match ended with the stip of Cena getting fired and Striker just yells at the top of his lungs:

Striker: CENA'S FREE!!!!!!!!!!
Cole: ........ Cena's fired
Striker: ...... you're right. I'm sorry.

Remember the episode of Seinfeld where Jerry meets the woman of his dreams (played by Janeane Garofalo) because she's the female Jerry, gets engaged but breaks up with her because "I can't date someone like me. I hate myself"

That's the Matt Striker on commentary story.

This is the AEW story. Good intentions gets you a free pass for bad execution, then eventually that goodwill erodes and people start looking back more objectively.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2022 07:02 AM

You know who was fucking awesome? Tyson Kidd. He did this submission a couple of times on NXT called “The Dungeon Lock.” He sets it up like a Sharpshooter, but he falls back and captures their arm and wraps his legs around their neck like a triangle. His other leg is free to kick the motherfucker in the head if he wants to.

I remember when CM Punk was calling Superstars and he called Kidd “The Best in the World” during his match before he had hijacked that from Danielson and made it his thing.

Lock Jaw 01-25-2022 10:01 AM

That Bertha Faye song would be just like a 20 second loop if made today
