So, I watched the Reigns WWE24 thing, and it was pretty good, as those backstage documentaries tend to be on the Network. I think it will do more good for getting the naysayers back on his side than anything else they've done. He's always seemed like fairly cool dude when he's just being himself. It's when they try and push him as HILARIOUS SAMOAN BADASS WITH GREAT HAIR AND OUT OF DATE REFERENCES that everything goes to shit.
Some of the best moments, though, were from the periphery. Like, apparently, Brock and Vince are chummy and joke around with each other: http://i.imgur.com/5YUFBMc.jpg Here's Brock Lesnar thinking about how much of a bitch that Terminator is: http://i.imgur.com/tlKLvWo.jpg And here's Roman Reigns' mom hearing Seth Rollins' music in the main event. http://i.imgur.com/3eK9RTl.jpg |

Kerry imo could've been a great long term NWA Champion had his demons not taken control of his life.
This guy just had the look and tons of charisma. 31 Years Ago Today: 1st Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions May 6, 1984 in Irving, TX Texas Stadium drawing 32,123 ($402,000) CCTV in San Antonio, TX drawing 4,000 Johnny Mantell drew Kelly Kiniski (15:00). I guess Dixie said it was one of the 16 'TNA' Champs, so, removing Angle and Young--although if Russo was back, one of them may also have been the referee for their own match--that gives us:
A.J. Styles Austin Aries Bobby Roode Bully Ray Chris Sabin James Storm Jeff Hardy Lashley Magnus Mick Foley Mr. Anderson Rob Van Dam Samoa Joe Sting We can probably cross off Sting and Mick Foley due to being WWE contracted. Jeff Hardy's leg is broke. I can't imagine them paying for Samoa Joe or AJ Styles after letting them go. Probably going to be like Lashley or Aries who got taken out just a few weeks ago (episode airing time), which will be less than a big impact. |
One of these
Lashley (best bet) Anderson Magnus Roode Storm Austin Aries It'd be funny if its Aires and he cashes in his contract in the middle of the match to rip off Rollins ar WM. on second thought, that's probably exactly what they do |
TNA Champ
TNA Ch.am.p TNA St.in.g TNA Sting Half Life 3 confirmed. |
Quote:
Also, Aries has a contract? I've watched very little TNA recently, because the aesthetic since they've moved didn't work for me. The weird webcam shots of the announcers' being in a booth somewhere else in the country and introducing sections of the show like a VH1 show throwing to clips was just super awkward. |
He has the World Title Contract Feast or Fired briefcase
I'd also assume that Josh Matthews and Al Snow will be in the arena for the live show. The first episode that was live was like that |
Have they always been able to do the Money in the Bank style cash-in?
|
TNA says "anytime,anywhere"
Oddly enough the World Title has never been won with the contract. |
Why do they blatantly ripoff what WWE does at WrestleMania a few weeks later?
|

|
Reigns has other things WWE looks for in a main eventer to make them want to push him hard. Also, from what I've heard, he might even be a little better on the mic. Hopefully Uhaa fixes that though because his half power wrestler/half high flying style is pretty awesome and unique.
|
Random thought: I think we might see an impromptu, entirely too low key Shield reunion on Raw next week. The Shield vs New Day main event.
|
You know it's pretty funny that people are trying to claim that the low ratings Monday were because of the show and not because of the Playoffs. People really need to learn that wresting < basically everything else on mainstream television in the mainstream public's eyes. Any time there's something bigger on RAW will do bad, period.
Also, it's funny that Russo and others are bringing up Zayn and Ambrose when the main event was Orton vs Reigns, two guys that are considered to be the epitome of what WWE's "casual" audience wants. I'm not trying to defend the internet darlings or anything, nor am I saying Zayn and Ambrose are going to be the next big things, but how can people seriously act like they had any real impact on the ratings at all? |
Quote:
http://ak-hdl.buzzfed.com/static/201...11596708-2.gif I know I didn't need a GIF to illustrate that, but god damn it I wanted to post that one. The hourly breakdown for last week: Quote:
The last few weeks have been very meh. It's been pretty much downhill since Lesnar killed Michael Cole. If the rating is even lower next week, depending on NBA Playoff competition, then maybe Vince Russo can keep crowing about SAMI ZAYN KILLED RAW BECAUSE HE'S JUST A RASSLER or whatever. People look at the ratings in isolation way too much. Sure, yes, this is the lowest non-holiday non-football whatever episode in like eighteen years, so there is a general downward trend compared to similar competition over the past several years; but, that doesn't happen because of one show--or even ten shows, really. It's a continued lack of "must see" things that really gets exposed when there's some kind of event in contrast. More people probably bailed for the NBA Playoffs this year than previous years because over those previous years they've been taught that they can miss a Raw because what ever happens that matters or is entertaining? People crying the sky is falling and Sami Zayn killed the Raw rating and so on are just fucking stupid. The sky has been falling. They're just noticing the chunk that landed in front of them this time. There's a problem, but last week's show isn't the problem. |
The Shield reuniting at Payback would be lovely.
|
Exactly, wrestling has been stagnating for years. People have lost interest and basically any big sporting event is going to draw a bigger crowd, especially when you consider most casual WWE fans are also fans of basketball, football, etc.
Honestly I think it's just that all these "anti-IWC" people want something to blame so they choose to look for any correlation between IWC darlings and bad ratings. Thing is correlation =/= causation. Like you said the sky's been falling for a while and people are only acknowledging what they want to acknowledge so as not to hurt their own world views. Fact is bad booking and writing is what's killing wrestling, not the IWC, and not the prototypical guys either. WWE has just failed miserably at building new stars so when they can't book the Rock or Lesnar they can't get people to tune in. With so much great television out there now there's really no excuse for shows to suck. WWE can coast a little on name value but honestly if WWE didn't have such a vast background there's no way it would succeed at all in today's atmosphere. |
I'd argue the main issues actually started at Wrestlemania:
Andre the Giant Battle Royal Winner? Big Show IC Ladder Match Winner? Daniel Bryan. Orton vs Rollins Winner? Orton Cena vs Rusev Winner? Cena Undertaker vs Wyatt Winner? Undertaker Parties involved in the most talked about segment? Rock, Triple H, Stephanie, and celebrity. Apart from the Main Event, the only folks who won matches at this year's Mania that had an established act or a part timer in it was the established act or the part timer. That talked about segment, as much as I love the Rock, featured Rhonda Roussey and 3 folks who have been established for over 15 years. Even the IC Title Ladder match was won by the most established guy in the match. And as much of a fan as I am of Daniel Bryan, that did NO ONE any good because he's injured again. Why should I, as a casual fan, give a shit about these new guys? |
Very good point. If new guys never win they can never become established, and if they never become established they'll never be able to pull in ratings. It's a vicious cycle. WWE is afraid to put the new guard into these positions because they don't want the ratings to tank, but then because they don't put them there they never will ascend to that level.
|
Quote:
Bigger issue last year and this year so far is they have been reaching record-type level of lows for their shows regardless if it was competing with big sports games or not that week. Points to the bigger problem being the shows themselves rather than certain wrestlers as the real cause for their woes. Russo's reasoning on blaming those guys is likely because the WWE will put the full blame on them instead of their handpicked stars like Orton and Reigns also taking some blame. Happened with Ryder in the past and countless times where Cena got rushed right back to the main focal point of shows even though he was also a cause for the drops. |
It's partially the Godawful writing and partially the fact that they don't know who to push to appeal to more than just a vocal minority (Though I guess those ideas are intertwined... But one feeds into the failure of the other). There are certain guys who couldn't draw even if the booking were halfway decent.

looks like we're finally getting an Owen Hart dvd set
http://www.wrestlingdvdnews.com/wwe-...mentary/87400/ Here at WrestlingDVDNews.com we are proud to exclusively announce today, on what would have been his 50th birthday, that WWE is currently hard at work planning a biographical DVD and Blu-ray release on the life and career of Owen Hart! The years of bad blood and ill feeling between WWE and Owen’s widow, Martha Hart, have been well documented and naturally led wrestling fans to believe that Owen’s wrestling career being honored was something they would likely never see…. until now! Sadly, as you know, the wrestling world suffered a great loss in 1999 when Owen tragically died during the Over the Edge PPV in Kansas City, Missouri. What followed in the subsequent near 15 year period was a slew of litigation between Martha Hart and the company. However, we have learned that not only is this Owen Hart WWE DVD/Blu-ray project going ahead, it is going ahead with the full backing and support of Martha and his family. A documentary is in the works for the main feature of the set. Earlier this month WWE released a YouTube clip titled “Inside The Hart Family Dungeon” which included some new interview footage with Bret Hart. Right now that’s speculated to be a snippet of a longer interview conducted with Bret, quite possibly shot for the purpose of the Owen Hart documentary. On a day where we normally look back at the legacy of Owen Hart, today we as wrestling fans can now look forward to seeing his wrestling legacy honored. Finally. Happy Birthday Owen Hart! |
Should be interesting. About fucking time though.
