What exactly does Tiger Woods have to do with any of this?

I believe they were doing a lot of modification to those laws around then doing with how to handle the subject when it was broached by media or on social media. Maybe the figured they would just change it to avoid any potential legal trouble down the line.

Haven't they changed it more than once since then? I think they use "No Escape" now. But I think there was another name for a few years in there somewhere.

In 2010, the first year an EC themed PPV was done, Germany retained the No Way Out nomenclature.

Me either. And just recently I found out that the Big Show's classic "Big" theme was sung by Michael P.S. Hayes. I was kind of surprised, but only because I wasn't aware he was a singer who had done some stuff quite a while before that.

Sepholio 01-18-2022 06:11 AM

Looked it up just now. Apparently it was the law in Germany regarding Nazi imagery that caused them to make the change. Guess it was too close for comfort after all and they didn't want to risk it.

One of my good friends got in some shit when he was off post drunk one night and made a dumb holocaust joke and the wrong person heard it.

There are quite a few laws that make most mentions of this time period illegal. Possessing items from that time frame is illegal as well.

You, of course, still have the supporters in very weak numbers, but it isn't something that is publicly discussed. Lived there for a few years.

The issue is Meltzer connecting the dots to Auschwitz because of "Chamber". The issue is Meltzer needing so badly to criticize WWE that he did not even consider that bastardizing the Holocaust to take a dig was not going to be received well.

But Meltzer doesn't care. He has his cult following that will always disagree with anything that WWE produces. Like look at his match rating system, there have been some fantastic matches over the past 4-5 years and Meltzer goes "Nah 2 stars" and his fanboys completely agree with him and argue to the death with people about it.

Bingo. It’s all marketing. “WWE = bad” sells his newsletters to the people who aren’t happy with WWE. The people who are content with it, or aren’t such hardcore obsessives about it are less likely to engage with a newsletter anyway.

I think Dave has gone too far in that direction, especially when contrasted against praise for AEW (which isn’t as critically well-received as he’ll make out), because I genuinely think it’s locked him out of having sources in the WWE at all. And the AEW guys are so close to him they treat him like a super-fan. He never breaks anything anymore. He’s just got these sycophantic opinions and a bit of a readership who, for some reason, takes them seriously, even though they are demonstrably baseless.

I used to subscribe to The Observer, for maybe 5 or 6 years, maybe more I don't know. It was really interesting to me for a time but at some point it was obvious that Dave wasn't the "foremost" insider any more and "just an analyst" with a lot of friends in wrestling.

Obviously Meltzer slants towards his audience because in all likelihood it's a dwindling subscription, his board reflects his subscribers and it's quite inactive these days compared to normal. Still much more active than this board but dead for how busy it normally was.

I still have a board account there for some reason even though I haven't paid for years.

I don't even care to read Meltzer's star ratings, it's bullshit anyway. The anime main event NJPW style kinda changed the game and made it impossible to go faster and harder and longer.

I don't know why you guys are always talking about Meltzer like what he says matters. He's just an old wrestling fan who lives on the austisim spectrum and has bad pimples and is like 60.

XL 01-18-2022 12:45 PM

I mean, yeah.

Reading Noid’s post I couldn’t help think “isn’t this just like all corporate news outlets/YouTube channels? Slanted one way or the other, without expressly stating ‘we are pro-this, or anti-that’, putting out content with a quantity over quality mentality, to a niche audience that just gets pumped for more views/buys?”. The difference between Dave and most tabloid journalists is negligible at this point.

I don’t think anyone is saying that it’s shocking. But you can still discern with a critical eye something from sources. One of the first things we got taught in school was that everything had a bias. You’ve got to look for what that bias is, then work out whether the things being said are based on evidence.

That doesn’t mean things need to be so blatant. It doesn’t make lying great. And other people doing it doesn’t make it okay.

Yep.Survivor Series '02, SummerSlam '03, New Year's Revolution '05 & '06, and No Way Out '08 & '09. I'm guessing since the last 2 I listed took place at a PPV in February, Vince decided giving it its own themed PPV in that month would be "best for business". And yes, I willfully ignored December to Dismember '06 because fuck that match.

I dunno wtf you are talking about DAMN. I don't know about skiing but Olympic figure skating is a pretty damn big ratings draw. Bet it draws more than every wrestling show for the week from every company combined.

Exactly. If it's not it's very close. I could see the finals in hockey being a big draw. Curling (the greatest sport on Earth) is probably right up there too.

I feel like only someone from the office would have information on what happened. And it was pre-Prichard. So… I’m worried we’re pretty much out of luck.
