Killer Instinct could be making a return in the near future after Microsoft teased they might have something planned for the series in the near future.

Quote:

On the website PlayXBLA, Microsoft has made an announcement:

With all due respect to our friends in the media who like to frequent trademark sites, we thought we’d break this one ourselves. :)

Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: "We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions."
While it is unlikely the new Killer Instinct game will be Killer Instinct 3, it is very likely it would be as a HD port or remake of the original arcade game for Xbox Live Arcade.

Killer Instinct would be nice to have, but I think a new game would be updated. The original had potential, but was never quite there.

Platinum working on Nintendo franchises would be awesome. Star Fix would be fun, but I'd love a Geist sequel shockingly.

Was it ever established who owns the Eternal Darkness IP? Dammit Nintendo, bring them back since they fucked up going elsewhere. Also buy Rare back.

Emperor Smeat 09-18-2012 04:29 PM

Nintendo owns the Sanity Meter which is the most important part of the IP although its never been stated who actually owns the IP.

There was rumors of Retro Studios working on a sequel which would hint Nintendo owns it but every so often Silicon Knights references a potential sequel being possible from them.

A couple of Bioware related news as the company teases more Mass Effect 3 DLC is on its way, a new universe for future Mass Effect games is possible, and the co-founders are leaving the studio next month.

The general managers from Bioware's Edmonton and Montreal studios, Aaryn Flynn, reveals the company has more plans in store for Mass Effect 3 with more DLC and a possible new setting for the series. He teased the new universe setting could be done for the next Mass Effect game which is currently being developed from the ground-up for next gen systems.

Quote:

First, BioWare said there are more single-player stories to tell within Mass Effect 3, starting with the “Omega” downloadable content in the fall. Additionally, there are plans for “another full game.”

“He and his leads are putting together their vision for an all new game set in a fictional universe, built from the bottom-up with all new gaming technology,” said Flynn.
Bioware also confirmed the co-founders of the studio will be retiring next month from the company with EA given the retirement notices in April of this year. the actual notice given in April to Electronic Arts. Co-founder Ray Muzyka made the 6 month request in order to give Bioware enough time to adjust to a new leadership direction during the transitional period.

While Muzyka's farewell letter was more upbeat about him returning to the industry after a short break, the other co-founder Greg Zeschuk will not. Zeschuk stated he felt it was more beneficial to himself and the company to leave now since his passion for game development was gone while he wanted to spend more time with his family than his job previous allowed.

Quote:

"I now desire to take on a brand new entrepreneurial challenge," said Muzyka. "I believe strongly in the power of free enterprise to enable sustainable change, so my next ‘chapter’ will likely focus on an entirely new industry, something exciting, different and frankly downright scary – investing in and mentoring new entrepreneurs, and more specifically, the field of social/impact investing."

Zeschuk's letter was much more somber, and sounded akin to a man defeated by his work load.

"This decision isn’t without significant pain and regret, but it’s also something I know I need to do, for myself and my family," said Zeschuk. "I’ve reached an unexpected point in my life where I no longer have the passion that I once did for the company, for the games, and for the challenge of creation. For the people I have had the privilege of working with, however, my passion burns as brightly as it did the day we started."

by Team Ninja, Spark Unlimited, and Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune

The game which is a spin-off from the Ninja Gaiden series stars Yaiba as the main character of the game. Yaiba was revealed to have been a former ninja who was killed by Ryu Hayabusa in the Ninja Gaiden series only to be revived later as a cyborg ninja.

According to Obsidian Entertainment, major big name gaming publishers and companies have been recently trying to exploit the Kickstarter system.

They state the company have been contacted several times over the past several months from big name publishers who wanted the company to operate Kickstarter projects for them. This was during the same period as the company themselves was preparing and having their own Kickstarter for Project Eternity which ended up being a success.

The only catch was if they accepted then several restrictions would be placed such as the project couldn't be revealed as being from the publisher, the refusal to fund any of their money to the project, complete ownership of the IP, and the majority of revenues if the project was successful.

Quote:

We were actually contacted by some publishers over the last few months that wanted to use us to do a Kickstarter. I said to them “So, you want us to do a Kickstarter for, using our name, we then get the Kickstarter money to make the game, you then publish the game, but we then don’t get to keep the brand we make and we only get a portion of the profits” They said, “Yes”.
The benefits for these publishers would be letting the public bear the entire costs for development while gaining easy IP rights from developers.

Looks cool, but I dunno, stuff like that....

To elaborate, from the bus stop, I walk about half a mile up a narrow dirt trail in pitch blackness, in an area known for bears, and on the rare occasion mountain lions.

I need more fantastic shit than what I already deal with, such as a Dead Space game.

A former public relations employee from Sony has recently lashed out against the company saying they are "sending out titles to die" this upcoming holiday season.

His issue is Sony has done a horrible job in terms of focus and priority with the Vita potentially being impacted the worst.

He also revealed details of Sony has been trying to over cut their costs to their PR department to the point it now costs them more money to have an outside group do their PR work than their own internal PR branch before.

He also criticized Sony for "punishing" their other divisions because of their TV division's string of bad business decisions to the point of becoming one of the biggest money loosing divisions in the company.

Quote:

Recently laid-off Sony PR man Will Powers has taken to Twitter to share some views on his former bosses, questioning the company's recent business decisions and suggesting that its big titles are being thrown to the wolves. It's pretty stern stuff!

"You have to wonder what the hell PlayStation was thinking laying off more than half of their software PR team going into the holiday season," he said. "In typical fashion they're sending titles out to die, because they have no PR support -- LBPK, Sports Champions 2, Wonderbook.

"Worst part is, the PR department was already under-staffed. I feel sorry for those that remain there, because their workload just doubled. PR is non-revenue generating, but has a very low operating cost in relative terms to their results. Laying off to cut costs makes no sense."

Having laid out the PR problems in the cold light of day, Powers then moved onto its handling of products, most notably the PlayStation Vita.

"That being said, you have to question the priorities of the company as a whole -- What [is] the point of AdHoc multiplayer when no one has a Vita?" he continued. "Sony in general is serving too many masters. Each company should operate autonomously. PlayStation shouldn't suffer b/c TVs are overpriced.

The Ecco the Dolphin series could be getting a revival in the near future according to the creator of the series.

Series creator Ed Annunziata revealed on Twitter he is currently in negotiations with Sega to see if they are willing to have a new game be developed with his biggest plea for fans of the series to show support on Twitter for a new game to Sega.

Quote:

Ecco fans, I need to follow & tweethank @scottfoe, he convinced Sega to meet with me now chances of a new Ecco the Dolphin x100!
The original musical composer Spencer Nilsen has also joined in on wanting a new game done and would be willing to help compose new music for a potential game.

One of the potential reasons for the push for a revival or new game is due to the series celebrating its 20th anniversary earlier this year although the occasion wasn't celebrated or even acknowledged by Sega at the time.

I'd find new Ecco to be a very odd move for Sega unless they can really lowball the budget. I mean I'd personally love it and I know Bayonetta 2 sales probably wouldn't have set the world alight, but Ecco over Bayonetta 2? That would be very strange indeed.
