Jonathan Barber, former CHIKARA ref, co-creator of Botchamania, copyright protection guy for a bunch of indies, and perhaps most notoriously the guy who edited Chris Benoit's Wikipedia entry prior to the official announcement of his death, has passed away.

Interesting -- SD might have the most viewers a week but Raw has the most live viewers under 50. I expect AEW's number here to go up when they are back on Wednesday Nights.
Viewers 18-49: RAW - 637k SD - 623k AEW - 244k NXT - 240k Credit for this info goes to Wrestlenomics/BrandonThurston |

“Must see TV” all round.

This is what I’ve been trying to say to AEW fanboys since the start. Just because they’re in an echo chamber where they talk to other people who validate what they say, it doesn’t make the narrative that AEW is “cool” true. It isn’t the hottest product, either in terms of overall viewership (which factors in children in the schoolyard), nor that allegedly “covered” 18-49 demo. There is no metric that AEW is besting WWE in. Not one. People are talking more, getting more excited for MONDAY NIGHT FUCKING RAW than they are Dynamite.
This whole 18-49 demo being coveted this is a largely mythologized metric by folks like Dave Meltzer to have something to talk about week-to-week so their business can stay alive. Dave doesn’t report the false numbers there (too much accountability), but he does focus on a simplistic overview that he preaches as some sort of golden ticket. A chimpanzee could read a Showbuzz chart and buy advertising blocks according to that data. More complicated breakdowns, which Dave either ignores, doesn’t receive or doesn’t care to pay any mind to, reveal a lot more varied and less archaic details that can help advertisers make more informed opinions about different shows’ audiences: -Their age is one factor. -Their gender is another. -Their sexuality is another. -Their ethnic and cultural background is another. -Their other viewing habits is another. -Their disposable income is another. -Their willingness to spend their income is another. -WHAT they spend their income on is another. -How consistent an audience is for that show is another. -Is this the totality of the audience or is there a variation week-to-week? This is common sense. All these factors run together to help determine how “valuable” audiences are. It’s why AEW is getting the boot for hockey, despite the NHL having a much smaller week-to-week audience. There are a number of factors: -Wrestling fans might generally find themselves to be 45, living without disposable income, being interested in only video games and may not find themselves having much social influence. 80% of the audience might be week-to-week viewers. -Hockey fans might be in their 30’s, have more disposable income, be interested in clothing and “lifestyle” products, and be more influential in their ability to propagate trends. 80% of that audience might be unique viewers catching specific games, as opposed to the total audience. When wrestling fans, wrestling journalists and FUCKING WRESTLING COMPANIES THEMSELVES! Take these abstract demos and treat them like the holy grail, they ignore so much of the greater picture. Do advertisers even want to target 600k thousand people via cable television in the age of internet? But for some reason wrestling — possibly because of faux competitive, macho nature — sees a show getting a higher number in one context and treats it like it’s dropping the elbow on the other companies. Woooo! |
It's all part of a bigger picture... that you're too stupid to understand - Wade Barrett

Roman vs Rey has been moved to SD instead of the HIAC PPV

That’s huge news for AEW. WWE clearly worried about losing viewers to the young upstart company.
Hope this leads to more exciting wrestling action! |
Probably Noid's best yet.

SmackDown hot-shotting and probably going to drown AEW.
|
Lol, isn’t this going to be the same week AEW does Kenny Omega vs. Jungle Boy? So there’s going to be a lot of “top this” for the wannabe heel champion with the wannabe top manager and a way, way, greener underneath babyface.

Sounds like Bray Wyatt might be in Drew's orbit soon

Guessing Drew wins MITB to invalidate the no more title shots clause thing

Watching some of the old Nitro-era WCW stuff I’d forgotten about. It’s crazy how fresh eyes change things. I’ve always been a fan of William Regal, but his ring work as Lord Steven was just so many notches above his WWF/E work for quite a long time there. Regal would eventually get his feet warm, but for a while it didn’t feel like he meshed well in the E.

For some reason just fell in a YouTube hole watching clips of Rusev/Lana Russian gimmick... was so golden. (And the Russian national anthem is a sweet anthem)
They really missed out on giving Swagger the push over him... would have been better than his first loss going to John Cena. |

You know what I noticed about that Nakano clip? No one struggles to apply a hold anymore, unless it's a finisher. I miss that.
